I've been thinking about this for quite a while and I finally saw something that inspired me to attempt to put it into words.

I feel like we've reached a point where unless such (Juvenalian) satire is executed from such a position where it can actually raise the consciousness and/or assert accountability within the interest of its intended demographic, the need for that edgy content with that intent is rendered obsolete.

Since a lot of the knowledge trying to be implicitly passed through such edgy content is so readily available to most everyone that matters, whether it be through the vast informational libraries of the internet or the fact that the powers that need 'truth spoken to' are well-aware of all of it, the obsoletion of such tactical comedy is rendered, indeed.

Not to say that folks who are most affected by the subject matter of such content can use this kind of dark humor as a means of artistic catharsis (the bounty of memes on this app from more marginalized creators on such subjects and movies like Sorry to the Bother You are indicative of that).

In regards to it ACTUALLY bringing about any meaningful material change, satirists- namely white cishet male satirists- need to, at the very least, eschew that level of pretense in favor of critical reflection of one's own Juvenalian practice.

To succinctly summarize:

Politically-motivated gallows humor doesn't have any purpose outside of being a collective coping mechanism and folks need to be aware and/or critically think about that before publicly indulging in it.
