@the-cerwyn mentioned the Brownbarrow’s in the dark timeline and it made me think about what would happen with them
I think Rickard would remain pretty unchanged really. I’m not sure if he’d eventually come back to the Glenmores though, given the state the house appears to be in. If anything he’d probably just return to the Oldbarrow and serve as the captain of the guards or something like that, eventually going on to fill Edwyn’s position at a later point. Hallis would be quite similar in that his arc doesn’t change.
Meghan would see the biggest change out of the three. Like Hallis she’d feel a sense of guilt over the loss of the Brownbarrow men, but unlike my main verse for her, these feelings would be heightened by the loss of her husband. Namond’s death would be crushing to her, especially with all the things left unsaid between them, and then to find out she’s pregnant after would only serve to worsen her grief. Arthur would still be born at the Oldbarrow, but I think it would take her a while to take him back to Rillwater Crossing. She wouldn’t want to get involved with the Mother’s March and the events following, and would encourage her brother to stay out of battles unless there was a direct threat to them. I do believe Meg would be a bit overly protective of Arthur in this timeline. Not to the point where he’s incapable of doing anything without her nearby, but more of a sense of her being overly cautious. It’s probably a bit to do with the fact he’s the future of House Glenmore, and he’s like her only remaining connection to her husband, so feels like she has to be protect him with her life. Also worth noting, I think Meghan would become a bit of a recluse in this timeline, and her relationships outside of her immediate family would take a toll. She’d still be civil with Cley, but I think she would lose the humour that was always there between them. Her warm personality would be replaced by one far more harsher. Her relationship with Greta would take the biggest toll in my eyes. With Greta becoming bitter and resentful, and Meghan more or less hiding herself from the world, things would understandably be difficult. But also, Meghan would have a deep sense of guilt over Torrhen’s death, and the way it affected her friend. This is also I think she struggles with in the current timeline. I think she would probably still write letters to Greta, but they’d be really cryptic and difficult to make sense of, because she can never think of what to say to her.

“We can’t always rely on the larger vassals for help,” Meghan pointed out. She agreed with Cley’s statement though. For the most part, the larger houses seemed to be staying out of trouble with the Boltons, but in recent days there’d been a growing sense of tension amongst some of them, if word was to be believed. “They can’t all be as kind as you, Cley.”
She appreciated his following words following their hug, knowing that he understood her brother best in regards to lordship. The younger son coming to inherit lordship through unforeseen circumstances. “And it will mean a lot, I can assure.” Meghan told him, a light smile. “You assistance will go a long way at the Oldbarrow.”
“I suppose so… but, you don’t really hear much from the bigger houses these days. The Boltons are being… well, in charge. Manderlys, Umbers, and Glovers are quiet or have their own problems. And Karstarks have tucked themselves away after the War. I’m possibly one of the only bigger vassal lords showing my face around, at least people know that I’m available”. He at least knew of his situation, and surely it was a weird one.
“Every house is important, no matter how big or small; the same goes for the people within it. No one deserves to be left behind”. Dark days were coming, and the Cerwyn had to make sure his family and friends were safe, as well as others he could help. “The Cerwyns protected the Starks; they may be gone, but their people aren’t. Their people still need help”.
He allowed the embrace, not expecting it, but he managed to adapt to it. After her words, the lord replied: “I can understand his situation; we weren’t meant for these duties, but we’ll give it our best. An offer of help can go a long way”.

“Well, you’re a lord now, Cley.” She pointed out. “I expect you’ll be getting invited to more weddings now. I expect it would be an honour for anyone to have Lord Cerwyn attend their wedding.”
His words about his family getting bigger, made her smile, touched by the notion that he would think of her and her family as his own. He may not have had a familial connection to them, but the Brownbarrow was certain he would always be welcome at the Crossing.
His following remark caught her off guard; completely unprepared for his declaration of assistance. “Cley...I don’t know what to say.” Meghan was truly lost for words at that moment. “It means a lot that you would make such an offer.I’m glad that should we ever need it, you would support my house in our time of need.”
Meghan then moved forward, drawing Cley into a warm embrace. “This will mean so much to my brother.” She said, when she pulled away.
“Really? Well… I’ll take your word on it, considering you’ve been to more than I have, probably more than I will, at least”. He mused back to his friend, knowing fully well she had him beat in that department. “Of course I imagine your’s trumps all of the ones you had been to prior, makes sense”. The Cerwyn gifted a playful grin, he was happy for her, a lot has changed since the two last spoke to one another.
“Good to hear on that part, while we don’t know if that connection will reach the Glenmores, it’s nice to know the family will be a bit bigger”. He was even more happy in that sense; Brownbarrows were raised good, he was glad to know this particular Wolfswood clan. Branches… Brownbarrows… it was like a small part of the Wolfswood was connected to him, even if in a small way.
“Lady Meghan… just want to let you know: Cerwyns, Flints, we take care of our own. I know it’s a while until the wedding, but if you or your house ever need something, all you need to do is but ask. You and Hallis have been kind me, and I can’t see anyone else who’d treat Demelza as right as him, so… I suppose what I’m getting at, is that you have my support, if you need it”.

She smiles gently at the mention of her husband and Cley’s prior meeting. Though the Cerwyn shares no details at the moment, she is familiar with what happened, having been told by Namond. Sometimes Meghan finds it difficult to believe some of her husband’s actions, though she knows they are likely to be true. He rarely acts that way around her, a bit serious at times, but rarely the rash and stubborn man he could sometimes come across as.
“Truly?” She is surprised that someone from a house as powerful as House Cerwyn had never been to a wedding before. She shrugs slightly, disbelief wearing off. “Trust me, from all the weddings I’ve been to, I can tell you that they’re not all that great.” She paused, a playful smiling tugging at her lips. “Except mine of course.”
There’s some humour in him confirming he’s Demelza’s cousins. With the two of them, there are similarities - in personalities at least. She can’t really imagine him being related to Jocelyn though. Meghan had only ever met the Branch matriarch once, but the encounter had been an unpleasant experience that she did not wish to repeat any time soon.. She certainly had the highborn features, and could play the part of a well-mannered wife and lady perfectly, but she could sense there was a darkness to her too. A bitterness with far stretching roots.
“I suppose House Brownbarrow and House Cerwyn would have a small connection from the marriage.” Meghan said. “But I’m not sure if that would extend to the Glenmores.”
“Glad to hear of such… Met Namond before, he seems like a good, cautious man. A calm mind bests the rash one, my father always says”. He had met the Glenmore heir only once before. It… was not a good meeting, Cley had no tact back then, didn’t know how to address a fellow heir. Besides, in that situation, he was more certainly in the wrong. It was… a foolish idea.
“Never been to one before, neither invited to one; tis’ a mixed blessing”. Cley subtly teased back, finding his situation to be a funny one in nature. “Yes, she and I have Flint Finger roots; our mothers are sisters”. He informed her. “If they marry… wouldn’t that make us soon to be related? The Glenmores included?”

Meghan nodded her head appreciatively, as he shared his congratulations with her. “Oh, it was wonderful.” She gushed to him. Compared to some weddings that Meghan had been to, hers could be considered small, despite there being numerous nobles in attendance. Overall, it was subdued affiair, a brief glimmer of hope for the future; fitting really, considering what House Brownbarrow and House Glenmore had lost in recent months.
“You’ve never been to a wedding before?” Meghan asked, a hint of humour in her tone. It was not a mocking tone, but rather that of a gentle tease. “Perhaps you might be lucky enough to attend Hallis’ wedding...when it happens.” She suggested. “I’ve heard that Demelza is a cousin of yours, is it true?”
“You are certainly one of the most gracious hosts I’ve had the honor of befriending”. Cley admitted with the same smile, taking in the humor she was reflecting. He knew of the gesture she had before him, bread and salt, the most honored guest right. He thankfully accepted, indulging in such, giving his host a noble bob of his head. The sacred law of hospitality was now in effect.
“Yes, I recall such. Congratulations as well, ever still growing up before me”. He lightly teased, he was younger compared to Greta and Meghan, so it should of been expected. His father was still looking for possible arrangements for him. “No apology necessary, I understand completely. Never been to a wedding before, was it nice as they say?”

Meghan smiled, “I’m glad to hear it.” She straightened from her position. “I would hardly be a good host if I left you to freeze.” Soft laughter filled the room, only to be interrupted moments later by the return of the servant Meghan had sent off earlier, returning with the bread and salt. She was swift to take some of the food for herself, and waited patiently whilst Lord Cerwyn did the same.
With the formalities out of the way, and the two of them feeling warmer now, Meghan allowed herself to relax a little more. “It’s been a while since I saw you last, Cley - before my wedding if I’m correct?” A small smile formed at the memory of the event. “I apologise for not inviting you, but it was only a small affair. Just our families and some of the Glenmore’s allies.”
“You have my regards for overlooking my moment of memory. The cold air is at least good for thinking on my part”. The Cerwyn gave a bob of his head, glad that Meghan was nice enough to excuse his thoughtful nature. Thankfully, she and Greta were both good natured enough to look past his flaws, within good reason. He was thankful to know the both of them.
Cley followed the Brownbarrow lady among her halls, as she knew the way better than he would ever. The Oldbarrow… he found the steadfast of the Brownbarrows quaint enough despite it’s size. He found the appeal of it that other bigger houses wouldn’t. He watched as Meghan approached the hearth first, joining her once she invited him over. His hands reached out to feel the warmth of the fire, basking in the heat. The Cerwyn gave her a warm smile, stating: “You have my thanks, Lady Meghan. Feeling better already”.

“No need to apologise,” Meghan assured him. “Perhaps it is I who ought to apologise for disturbing your memories.” She cast a gentle smile in his direction - an apology of sorts. She knew all too well the mixed feelings that could come from reminiscing. And though they were a source of happier times, she knew from experience, it did not bode well to linger in the memories of the past.
Leading the way, Meghan guided the two of them inside, where thankfully it felt a bit warmer. The long hallways had a chill to them still, but it was better than riding in the cold winter air. The large hall was warmer on account of the small fire which flickered away in the hearth. Meghan was quick to move towards it, extending her hands out to absorb some of the heat. A young servant was quick to attend to her, whisking away her riding garments, and a request from Meghan to send bread and salt from the kitchen. “Come and warm yourself by the hearth, Cley.” Meghan called, gesturing with her head for him to join her. “You’ll soon feel a lot better.”
@meghanxbrownbarrow continued here:
A small smile escaped the Cerwyn, her response was very much of her. Prior experience with cold may of made him more resilient, but he wasn’t fond of it. “A very cunning one”. Cley answered, a neutral, but complementive response.
He took in the cold air into his lungs, wanting to clear his mind for a moment before joining his friend. The crisp air reminded him of the Flint’s mountains, the brutal pilgrimage to their steadfast was still etched into his mind. However, the Cerwyn realized he was being noticed, and stepped off his horse, handing the reigns over to the stable hand. He joined Meghan, apologizing on his own behalf: “Pardon my slow reaction, Lady Meghan… was just reminiscing”.

A puff of air escapes past rosy lips as Meghan chuckles in response. “What kind of a woman do you take me for, Cerwyn?” She teased, stepping down from her horse, and passing on the reins to the stableboy who had been waiting patiently.
As she moved away, she began undoing the laces of her riding cloak, not noticing that her companion had not joined her. Pausing, she turned back to Cley, and waited for him to catch up.

💪: Are there any physical characteristics that run in your muse’s family?
The brown hair + eyes genetic combo is a pretty common trait in the family, though in earlier generations the hair was a lighter shade of brown.
👑: Are there any special heirlooms, photos, bibles or other memorabilia that have been passed down in your muse’s family?
They did have an ancestral weapon that had been passed down for generations. It was last used by Harkon during his climactic battle with the bandits. It was never recovered with his body as it was stolen by the remaining bandits after he was struck down.
As for other heirlooms, I don’t think there really is any - not even in the modern verse I have. There’s probably a few photos, but nothing else haha.
Sorry, I can’t answer the last one because the icon isn’t showing up on my computer so I don’t know which one it is!

🙇:Who is the oldest ancestor your muse’s family can trace back to in History? If they cannot trace back that far - is your muse interested in learning of their roots?
The oldest ancestor would be Balon the Brown who was the founder of the house. He was born in the Riverlands originally, but was bought to the north by his father when he was a young child. At some point in history he was granted lands and a title by the Dustins, and eventually settled in the area where the Oldbarrow is located today.
