We know the Monterey Bay is a preserve, but this is just ridiculous!
A massive swarm of jellies washed up along Monterey beaches this weekend, with patches of sea nettles so thick the water was transformed into extra spicy salsa! 🌊🌶🔥
Everyone, please give a big shoutout to local photographer Michelle Manson for enduring stings until her teeth hurt while taking this photo!

Aphanius dispar. RÜPPELL, 1829. Common Name: Arabian Killifish. Distribution: Found from southern coastline of Pakistan to inland populations in Egypt (oases of Siwa and Al-Faiyum), Israel/Jordan (in the Jordan Rift Valley), Iraq (near the city of Fallujah), Saudi Arabia (oases of Al-Hasa and Al-Kharj), and salt lakes of the Afar Depression in Ethiopia and Dijbouti (including Lakes Afera and Assal). An extremely adaptable species which ranges from Brackish, hypersaline, to totally freshwater areas. With such a wide distribution and color variants, this species probably has multiple subspecies. Water Conditions Temperature: Generally active over a wide temperature range of 39 – 86°F/4 – 30°C but some populations will not do well below 59°F/15°C. Studies have shown that this species is capable of withstanding temperatures in excess of 104°F/40°C.
pH: 7.5 – 9.0. It will probably not survive under acidic conditions.
Hardness: 268 – 625 ppm. Diet Omnivorous with a strong tendency to a natural algae-based diet and other plant material. If the aquarium has a paucity of filamentous algae try to introduce a good quality dried product with added Spirulina. It should also be offered regular meals of small live or frozen fare such as Artemia, Daphnia or bloodworm, for spawning condition. Sexual dimorphism is evident with males being more more colorful and possessing extreme finnage. This species is a substrate spawner and produces eggs daily, which either should be removed, or more simply remove the spawning pair. The fry are ready to feed on Artemia nauplii, microworms, or similar sized foods. Despite its singular beauty, it cannot be recommended for a community tank due to its specialized water needs.
