Leaving Hue for bus trip to Hoi Ann along the mountain side with beach views. Stopped at a viewpoint for fresh coconut drinks and a ... debatable bathroom. We can see you Mark! Bus stop at a bakery for lunch. Yummy buns filled with meaty VN delights. Our vegetarian doesn’t seem impressed! Eaten sitting on baby chairs on the sidewalk.

This temple held the relics of the famous monk who set himself on fire in protest. It made world news. I still remember it. His heart was incinerated several times and did not burn and is believed to be indestructible. There are varying opinions on the authenticity of this claim. Also we all had to have our knees covered so Christian wore his watermelon wrap.

Great fun climbing on a motorbike for a tour around the city! Took a dragon boat ride on the river and visited Tu Duc’s tomb. Loved the statues guarding the tomb. The last is a group of school kids exercising in the square.

Side trips Halong Bay: Pottery Making: check out the molds and ovens Hang Sung Sot: caves in Haling Bay, so many huge caves! The Humanitarian Centre where dumb/dead/poor are taught skills and then employed. I bought a beautiful needlework picture made by the man in the photo with me. I think he had been living on the streets.

Overnight in Halong Bay, North VN. Beautiful despite the fogginess (actually made it mystical)
