Today the Department of Awesome Snowflake Photography is examining some exquisite snowflakes that didn’t fall from the sky, but were instead grown in a lab at Caltech by physicist Ken Libbrecht.
It’s well known that no two snowflakes are exactly alike and Libbrecht is working hard to figure out why that is.
“In order to do so, he watches the frosty crystals condense from water vapor onto a sapphire substrate, all the while taking high-res images with a digital camera rigged up to a microscope. Over the years, Libbrecht has amassed a brilliant photographic collection, not to mention the distinct honor of being the world’s first designer snowflake artist.”
Prints of his snowflake microphotography are available here. Also, along with his wife Rachel Wing, Libbrecht recently published a book about the science, history, and anecdotes about snowflakes entitled The Snowflake: Winter’s Frozen Artistry [Buy on Amazon].
To learn more about Libbrecht’s snowflake research and view more of his gorgeous lab-grown snowflakes visit his Snow Crystals website.

Charging Crystals
Sunlight or Moonlight: You can use this method to both clear and charge your crystals at the same time. Find a safe place and leave your crystal for 24 hours or more (up to a week)  in sunlight and/or moonlight. Stones that will fade in the sun are amethyst, celestite, kunzite, opal and turquoise. If you have any doubts at all, only use moonlight charging.
Charging Grid: Take a group of quartz crystals (4 to 8 or more) and point them inward in a circle. Place the crystal or stone you want charged in the center of the circle and leave it there to charge for 24 hours or more.
Plants: Place your crystal among the leaves of a growing, healthy plant for 24 hours or more to charge it.
Burial: This method is good for grounding stones in particular, such as most any black stone, smoky quartz, red jasper and others. Bury the stone in the ground for a week or more to charge it. Mark the area where you bury it!!!!
The time needed varies according to the beginning state of the stone. Trust your intuition!

“WHAT’S IT GOOD FOR? As your spiritual awareness increases, there will be inevitably be encounters with lower entities/energies. Black Quartz is a leading stone in shielding you from these impure vibrations. Its protective qualities expand beyond these energies, as it purifies the space it is in. It is great to use in crystal grids, making a home in the corner of your home. It is said that this crystal carries the vibration of "OM”, the Universal voice of the world. It cleanses meridians by dissolving any blockages when worn, and has the same effect in the home. It raises the consciousness of its owner, shining a light on the many dimensions in the Universe and within ourselves. This is a great stone for your tool kit to promote protection, purification and spiritual growth.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Like all quartz, Black Quartz will have a transparent component, although it is primarily tinted black, or dark greens or greys thanks to material trapped within its inclusions.
ANYTHING ELSE? Black Quartz expands the aura, improving your sensitivity to your own energy and the energy of others. It enhances natural psychic abilities, making it a trusted tool for experienced and beginning meditators. It is a great partner for deep meditation and can help you to feel lighter, healthier and balanced.“

Over the weekend I finally went out and bought backside fabric for my pillows and blankets and ALL UNDER BUDGET! I’m so happy to say that GoFundMe has paid for all of my project, plus I’ve officially been able to raise extra for Fragile X. And an employee at Joanne Fabrics gave me a discount after she asked what my project is. I decided on flannel because it’s softer than the cotton but not too much an an extreme contrast. And I decided on pink and blue to favor towards boys and girls, and a yellow as a neutral for those who don’t like pink or blue – also because yellow is my favorite color ;) I’m currently in the process of cutting the fabric, which is going very well. I’m cuffing them so for every 3 pillows there is one blanket. I’m loving this fabric more and more as I’m working with it. I love how unique it is, and I love that I can still see details in the original canvas. I’m so excited about where this is going so far! And clearly my cat is intrigued :)

If you make a sign to request to shotgun beers with Dierks Bentley then you better actually know how to shotgun a beer just in case you get called up on stage to actually do it with him. He might just pour the rest out on stage 😂🍻 (at Jiffy Lube Live)
