xsiriuslyblack:
“Perhaps you should, might be an effective weapon. You and I would be an unstoppable force, driving people mad with just one look from us. Medusa-ish, but on the opposite end beautiful rather than hideous, and madness rather than stone,” he rattled off a smirk appearing on his lips. People had always said they made a striking pair and he couldn’t help but agree with them. When they went out together they often turned heads, when they were all dolled up anyway. Sirius stretched his arms behind his head, his shirt rising to reveal a slice of skin before it disappeared once more when his arms returned to their earlier position.
“Oh, I’m good for many things and you know that quite well,” a mischievous grin appeared on his lips as he watched her go fetch glasses. “So, you’ve just turned into a lady then? What were you before, just a run of the mill miscreant?” he chuckled. “Hmm, I don’t know, I think drinking straight from the bottle looks pretty impressive, but if you want to be civilized I can play that game too,” he agreed easily, opening one of the bottles. When she came near he leaned forward slightly to pour a healthy amount of the amber liquid into each glass.
Tumblr media
“You’re really good at that, you know, giving a compliment while also being insufferably arrogant. Makes people both want to hug and punch you at the same time”, Marlene chuckled, raising one eyebrow suggestively as she looked back around at him. “Besides, I’d rather not. I don’t want to drive everyone mad and end up with only you to talk to. What a miserable existence that would be”, she teased, a grin now wide on her lips.
“Ah, perhaps. You’re not too bad at finding good music, I gotta give you that. Other than that...” Marlene couldn’t help it, couldn’t help teasing him. It was simply how they worked, that flirtatious teasing game. “Something like that, sure. I was a peasant, now I’m the bourgeoisie”, she grinned, stopping in front of him with her two glasses in hand. “Sure, but this way you just keep on drinking and drinking without constantly seeing how much is left. It’s more fun that way”, Marlene explained and shrugged, before stilling once again so he could pour their glasses. She watched him, smiling softly at the care he took not to spill anything.

wintermacnair:
Weakness, then, seemed to be the right way to go. It had always been hard for Winter to show that to people she did not know intimately, like her family and even then she hated when they saw it. But this was all pretend, the weakness of the persona she’d been crafting for weeks since she’d left the ministry. This Winter Macnair was lost, struggling, weaker and softer than she really was. So it was almost easy to give into the nerves and the loneliness real Winter felt, crafting it as fear and weakness.
And then Marlene touched her, and Winter knew she’d won. Now it was just a matter of taking it all the way, and not only that, becoming a friend or at least a confidant. She’d always thought she’d been hard to quit, there had to be a reason Augustus kept coming back. Love, maybe, she didn’t dare to think. And if she could keep him interested then Marlene should be easy. Winter’s hands were cold, and had grown colder in all the time she’d spent alone, but still Marlene did not pull away, and Winter let the touch linger for a moment longer.
“Ok,” She dropped her eyes, then brought them back up, smiling as if she was unsure. “What is it you’re drinking, whiskey? My dad taught me how to drink whiskey,” She paused a second, and squeezed her eyes shut, as if to clear that thought from her mind. “but lately I’ve been unable to drink it, so my nights end better with vodka.” Her voice was layered with anxiety behind the almost forced smile. But inside, Winter was just laying out a story. There, take that bit of family pain and distance and run with it.
Tumblr media
Marlene smiled back at the woman as she stopped, hesitant, but unmoving. She didn’t say anything, when Winter kept on talking, taking in everything she was saying. She seemed unsure of herself, a little broken maybe, due to whatever had happened to her in the past. Marlene had never been great with emotions, or at least comforting people. She always tried her best and she had gotten much better, but personal stories from strangers usually made her at least a little bit uncomfortable. But this time, it wasn’t so bad. It wasn’t Winter’s entire story, after all, just a comment. She could handle a comment.
“Bourbon, actually. Have you ever tried it?” Marlene asked and gestured for Winter to sit down on the stool next to her so she wouldn’t have to stand and lean against the bar. Sitting was comfortable, sitting was talking, sitting was staying. “It’s really nice. Makes me feel classy, even when I’m not”, she replied, grinning slightly. The woman in front of her might be unsure, or broken, but Marlene had at least always been good at cheering people up. Comforting them, maybe not so much, but cheering them up was her forte.
Marlene flashed her another smile, before she turned around and tried to get the attention of the bartender. “I’ll have another bourbon, please. And... another vodka for you then? Or something else?”

august-infandum:
He acted as though he felt at least a tiny bit guilty about having startled her, but in all honesty, since he had been trying to help her and could have let her simply drop her books all over the floor around her feel, he didn’t feel bad for it. Still, he apologised anyway, as he had been brought up, with good manners, to do so. “I apologise for startling you, I assure you it was never my intent. The only thing I intended upon was ensuring that your books did not crush your feet” he explained, holding up his hands slightly in a sign of surrender; no harm meant.
“I have weirder moves I could have pulled” he joked in return, turning the book over in his hands as he read the title. His eyebrow raised. “History books? Educating yourself in a way that Binns never could manage without boring you into a coma?” he ventured, lightly teasing though his eyes were fixed on the book. He knew that particular book and as he scanned those that she had under her arm still, taking in the words on the spine, he pursed his lips. “If you’re into this, you might want to try…” he trailed off, taking several steps down the aisle and coming to a stop at least ten steps from her. “… this”.
He pulled a book off of the shelf that documented the history of some of the oldest Pureblood families in England and Ireland. His family was not among them. “Not a terribly enjoyable read, but I found some of the passages to be…. eye opening” he ventured, trying to find the right word without sounding rude. As he held it up to her to look at, he studied her face more closely and suddenly realised why she had seemed familiar. “I know you” he said, smiling slightly.
Tumblr media
“Oh, no, don’t worry about it. No harm done”, Marlene said although she appreciated his apology, even if it was rather formal for such a small crime. He had only meant well after all, she knew, and as she had said just now, nothing bad had come off it. So she smiled at him nonetheless, polite as her mother had always taught her to be.
“Do you now? I guess I’ll just have to believe you on that”, she laughed, watching him curiously as he looked at the book he had grabbed from her. “Something like that, yes. The amount of times Binns made me fall asleep is beyond my count, but now that I don’t have to be graded on my knowledge, I’m actually quite curious about certain things”, she explained and shrugged, or at least she tried with all the books she was carrying.
“Oh, thank you”, Marlene said as she took the book he had taken from her and the other book he had just gotten himself, so she could read the book title and look at the cover. It seemed to be about exactly the kind of thing she was looking for, perhaps just a bit more... opinionated than her other books. And not in a way she would likely agree with. But then again, reading about the other side might actually be helpful. “I’ll be sure to force myself to get through it then, if you say it’s worth it even though it might be hard”, she added and looked away from the book to smile at him. His next words, however, startled her. “You do?” she asked, her eyebrows raised. Of course, people had recognized her before, but she was still never certain if people had maybe met her before or if they really did know her from Social Media.

moonxartist:
“That’s where I started too, selling online.” She preferred having a studio, she loved being able to have the space to stretch out. Her apartment above the studio was tiny and cramped, but that didn’t matter. Her art did. “If you ever do an exhibition, you have to tell me when and where. I’d love to see it. Us artists have to stick together.” Even if an artist wasn’t necessarily to her style, she tried to be supportive. She could dish out the constructive criticism if need be, she liked sharing her opinion. It was what people had done for her, after all.
She nodded, waving a hand breezily. “Oh, yeah, that’d be great.” She hit the follow button on the phone before putting it away. “Personal stuff is great. I would, but I… tend to go… overboard when sharing personal information. Probably not the best thing when trying to impress people into buying your work.” She would much rather make a fool of herself in person, it was more fun that way.
Tumblr media
“Oh, thanks, I’ll be sure to let you know”, Marlene grinned, feeling slightly excited at the thought of doing an exhibition of her photographs. She had never thought about it, not seriously at least, but the idea enthralled her. She loved photography so much and seeing someone else actually pursuing their art instead of just doing it for fun, like she was, made her realize that maybe she should be doing the same thing. Of course, drawing and painting was quite different to photography, but she’d been doing this for so long now that she was confident that she was good at what she did, she had developed an eye for things most didn’t have.
“Wonderful. Do you have any specific opening times or should I message you?” she asked as she put her phone away as well. “Ah, yes, I get that. It’s hard to keep a line between the things you share and the things you don’t. Sometimes I’m not sure myself if I’m doing it right”, she laughed, shrugging.

Conversation
Ted: Not quite that far. I don't think that I've ever fallen that far.
Ted: I am watching parodies though, so some compassion?
Marlene: Oh, good on you. It happened to me once and I'm not sure if I ever recovered.
Marlene: Fair enough, that's quite something. What parodies are you watching?

breerappaport:
“I’ve had just this glass so far,” Bree admitted to the gorgeous blonde “but I’m always down for tequila.” She didn’t really like doing shots; the appeal of throwing back alcohol had been lost on her after she had been of age of a while. And her availability of friends to go out with was minimal to coworkers and her siblings, so she opted to sip on sweet drinks instead. Tequila, though, was her favorite shot and the easiest to put back.
Flipping her long hair over one of her shoulders, she prepared herself as she ordered the -thankfully- free shots.  “So what do you like to do when you’re not posting on BenjyGram? I see your stuff all the time, and like I love what you post, but I want to know what you do outside of that. Because you like, work for the ministry, right?” Shifting her weight onto her other heel, she leaned into the bar. “Do you want to sit at the bar or walk around?”
Watching her expression change with the introduction of the idea of shots, Bree wondered where her tolerance for shots was at. Easily, she could finish half a bottle of wine without much trouble after a long night of work, but that would be over a couple hours. She used to party all the time; she should be able to do this no problem. Confidently, Bree smiled and took a shot glass, holding it up. “Cheers to new friendship.”
“Tequila it is then”, Marlene grinned and both turned around to the bar to try and flag down a bartender. She’d always been a fan of Tequila, the bitterness of it and the combination with salt and lemon was just unpleasant enough to her taste buds to be perfect and get her blood flowing and mood rising. And since she hadn’t had any Tequila in a while, this seemed like the perfect opportunity. Tequila friends, she had noted, usually turned out to be quite wonderful friends.
“I don’t, actually. My father works in the ministry, but it was never something I wanted to do”, Marlene explained, shrugging, as she smiled. “Benjygram has sort of become my job. Because I have so many followers companies pay me to promote their products. I won’t work with everyone though. If I’m going to promote something, it’s important to me that I actually like the product itself. So, for the most part, that’s what my job, if you can call it that, entails. But especially now, since I’ve graduated, I’ve been getting a lot more into my photography. It’s how I started Benjygram in the first place, so it’s kind of something I’ve always loved to do”, Marlene told her, gesturing wildly with her hands as she so often did when she explained this. It was such a new concept not just to her, but to everyone that she was never certain how people would react to her claiming Social Media Influencing as her job. In the end, she just used her brand to sell things, but it was still new to so many.
“Thanks”, Marlene said quickly as the bartender brought them their shots and she picked up the salt to put some on her wrist. Taking the lemon in her one hand and the shot in the other, she turned back around to Bree and grinned. “Now that’s something I’ll happily drink to. Cheers to a new friendship”, she laughed, licked the salt, took the shot of Tequila and bit into the lemon.

keenandshrewd:
“I know,” Evelyn nodded. “It’s upsetting and terrifying and I just… I’m not even a muggleborn and I can’t imagine the pain that is going to come out of it. How heartless are the people in charge if they are willing to go through with such a ridiculous thing?” She felt powerless and terrified that they might come up with something far worse than taking children away from their families.
Evie sighed and settled beside Marlene, lightly resting her head against the other girl’s shoulder. “Aren’t we added to a list at birth?” She grimaced. “There has to be one– otherwise I cannot imagine how they get the muggleborns to Hogwarts in the first place.”
Tumblr media
“Well... if I had to guess I’d say instead of a heart, they must have a black hole in their chest”, Marlene sighed and ran a hand over her face as if to get rid of the frown that seemed to be permanently settled there. “How else would someone with any sort of heart and humanity inside them consider this a good idea. They’re breaking families apart to purify our society. It’s sickening, absolutely disgusting.” Her teeth were clenched now, both in anger and fear. Marlene was furious at the world, and terrified at the same time. Her two instincts were to either go out and rip the world in two or curl up in bed and never move again. Sadly, neither was a liable option.
“Yeah, you’re right, I remember reading about this somewhere”, Marlene agreed and leaned her own head against Evie’s. “But... where would this list be? I always thought it’d be something kept at Hogwarts, after all we all got letters from school not from the ministry. And muggleborns are visited by people from the school not the ministry...”, she trailed off as she spoke, the rears in her brain slowly rolling into action. “Right, so if there’s actually a list, there’s got to be a way to manipulate it, right? It would have to be a physical list, and names would probably just... appear whenever a magical child is born in England, right? So, there’s got to be a way to... to manipulate this list. To charm it. Especially if it’s normally at Hogwarts.” Marlene had gone still, not moving at all as her mind raced to solve this riddle.

“SIMBA: Dad? We’re pals, right? MUFASA: Right. SIMBA: And we’ll always be together, right? MUFASA: Simba, let me tell you something my father told me. Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars. SIMBA: Really? MUFASA: Yes. So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you… and so will I.”
