I'm still experimenting with my journey as an amateur bowyer. I haven't found a dedicated left-handed bow draw channel that is also properly informative and well-produced. Kinda fucked up my first bow and made it for a righty. I can probably work around it, but still ... months of work ...

Things are very quiet around here, but maybe some of you might be interested in participating in Mass Effect Appreciation weeks in 2025!

Mass Effect Trilogy Appreciation Week (from January 13 to January 19) - #trilogyweek2025

Mass Effect Andromeda Appreciation Week (from January 27 to February 2) - #meaweek2025 

Right now, that leaves time to prepare for both and a bit of time between each week :)

What can be posted? A bit of everything: fics, gifs, fanart, meta, discussions, memes,… 

What can't be posted? I would avoid character & ship bashing and since they're appreciation weeks, I would avoid overly critical posts about the trilogy and MEA. We're here to celebrate those works.

I'll give prompts but they don’t have to be followed at all, they’re meant to be inspiration. And they're valid for both weeks :

Art of 2024.

Digital art fell by the wayside thanks to frustration with the brushes not doing exactly what I wanted them to. Stuff just wasn't clicking and the gap between my brain and my eye and my hand brought me to coloured pencils this year instead. I'm enjoying the precision and control it allows me, and the challenge of figuring out how to layer and blend to achieve the colours and textures I want. I'll probably continue in this vein for now. Might mix media a bit, too, moving forward. All in all I think the return to traditional art has been healing, but it makes the leap back to digital all the harder haha.

I'm still adjusting to it being 2024. It's been a long year full of stress and focus. At the end of 2023 I decided to leave my RN position in high risk antepartum (what had previously been my dream job working a 0.63 FTE 8hr evening shifts until management changed). And I made the leap to go back to doing labour and delivery/postpartum nursing at a smaller hospital doing full time 12hr shifts. Shaking off the rust has taken time, hard work, and dedication, but I do really like the staff culture much better at my new site. Everyone is lovely and genuinely interested in doing their best. Some of the docs are difficult™ but whatever, I won't lose sleep over that at this point in my career. Anyway. The work is fulfilling in its own right, but I am exhausted. It's left me with little energy to pursue enjoyment in my hobbies and other passions, nevermind exercise and general home upkeep. Thank goodness for an amazing partner and supportive inlaws. So this year will probably focus on restoring equilibrium wherever possible. That may mean needing to watch for lines with a lower FTE to come up, even temporary postings, like for mat leaves etc.

I was able to work on a few art pieces and exchange fics over the past year, so I'll take the W on that. Most of my WIP have clearly taken a back seat for the moment, which is fine. Creativity ebbs and flows for me, and I've come to accept that and prioritize what I need to when I need to.

Looking ahead to 2025, I have a short term goal of completing those give away portraits in between my work shifts. I will probably also participate in ME spec reqs and a couple other exchanges, time and energy allowing. I'd like to finish off a couple long term WIP fics. And I'll probably focus on drawing for myself. What specifically? Not sure yet. I'll have to see where inspiration crawls out of the grave.

Thanks to everyone that's hung out with me this year, I look forward to sharing more writing and art and ideas together in the year ahead.

@alyssalenko has been a big help this year with a lot of fashion questions for fics I've been involved with. Very open, helpful, insightful, and judgement-free. It's made writing all of the fancy events in stories far more fun! Thank you!

19. What're you excited about for next year?

I need to rework my demo reel, but I have some opportunities to update it with recent pieces. with the ideal end result being a job opportunity from it. So for now the new year brings new opportunities to grow and expand skillset.
