My last summer was a pandemic. My parents told me that this virus was deadly especially to kids like me. That’s why I was not allowed to go far from the vicinity of our house to play, not even to my neighbor friends.
For me, it was pretty unusual to be at home every day for the whole summer. This was the first time I have not traveled away from home to visit some relatives, friends and even malls.
Still, that summer was enlightening for me not only because I learned how vulnerable we are from the pandemic, but also because I’ve gained confidence of myself through my experiences at that time. While at home, I learned to be responsible by helping around the house like cleaning and setting the table during meal time. I also learned to manage my time, and that, every day, I do house chores, I have time for playing and also for studying.
But one of the most unforgettable experience for me was biking. Frequently, I do my biking by circling in the area infront of the house. One day, I decided to go biking on the concrete road a little farther away from our house. Just the thought of it already made me feel so thrilled and excited, but then on the other hand, I was scared. Halfway between our house and the road were lots of dogs that were owned by our neighbor. And, I have to pass through them to get to the where I want. Another was that, this was the first time I will be biking on a road where there were vehicles passing.
I have second thoughts of my idea because something bad might happen to me with the dogs or, I might encounter an accident there. But the excitement to go biking was so overwhelming that I decided to go on with my idea and face my fears.Â
Slowly I pedaled, holding my breath and passing slowly the dogs which were barking angrily near my legs. But eventually, I was able to pass them. Finally, I reached the road and that, I was nervous but overjoyed while pedaling. I was still scared, but every time I passed a running vehicle safely, it lessens my fears and gained me more confidence. I continued biking till I got tired and felt so good and happy of myself after that.
I realized in that experience that if you want something, and if that thing will make you happy, then, go for it. Do not let any hindrance stop you.
