"For what he does, all the jumping and stuff, shouldn't he definitely be animated?" Mason mused, caught in thought for a moment. "But yeah, I tend to be more animated than most people anyway." He added with a smile and a shrug. "Maybe we'll have to meet up at some point."

"Not many, but I suppose I never imagined him quite as animated as yourself," she considered with a laugh. "That's sweet that you two are so close. I'd say Merle and I are very much similar in that regard," Piper admitted when he mentioned that his best friend wasn't often somewhere too far from whenever he was.

"Mate, that would be such an awesome thing to have. Can you imagine? We could have our own little joint batcave that would have all our music and stuff too." He mused with a little gasp of wonder as he continued to imagine that.

"I'm worried about our co-dependence too. Like are we going to have to live in houses with secret tunnels connecting them to be able to cope with adulthood? Because I wouldn't put it past us to do something like that," Axel mused with a snort.

"I mean, I think I'd notice if someone was flirting with me." Mason said, given it was something he was looking for and yet Ronnie was essentially telling him maybe he didn't see that. "When have I been oblivious?"

"Have you ever thought that maybe you just don't notice when people are flirting?" Ronnie asked, raising an eyebrow, "I love you, dude, but sometimes you can be a little oblivious."

"I think some people really don't care. Like your friend for instance. She doesn't seem like the type that needs everyone to like her." Mason pointed out. "I know... I'll give it a go though because she must be nice if you like her."

"Is anyone really? I think that's a universal experience," she shot back to him with a soft snort. "But I do get it. If you don't click, you don't click. But it'll be fine," Lyra then waved it off. "I need to remind myself I can't force everyone to be best friends no matter how much I'd love that."

"It's the least I can do and it's a good excuse to try something else too." Mason was glad that Axel never seemed to judge him for the amount he could eat. He knew that he'd managed to make many raise an eyebrow with the amount he could get through in the past.

"I certainly won't say no to a replacement meal," he grinned back brightly as he watched Mason scarf down the food he'd taken from him. "And I'm sure you won't mind going for seconds. Or thirds by now I guess," Axel chuckled.

"Just the sweet tooth, the flattery is entirely genuine." Mason answered with a little laugh at Lyra's words as he tugged her underneath his arm and gave her a hug. "Oh, this was never planned. The best jam sessions never are in my opinion. We've ended up with some real weird and wonderful collection of instruments before. Last time I dragged my double bass out with me but that's a real hassle to move around as I'm sure you'd imagine."

"Trying to win me over with my sweet tooth and flattery, are we? Unfortunately those are both very effective ways to persuade me," Lyra laughed in reply. She appreciated the invitation from Mason regardless of all that, but it never hurt. "Did you guys plan this or did it happen impromptu?" she wondered as she looked around at everyone joined around singing.

"If I can give you a real answer still, I'm going to assume I am not drunk enough." Not that Mason was the type to go out and get off his face on alcohol. That was a surprisingly rare occurrence. Mason gave the blonde an affectionate nudge when he called them brothers for life. "I mean, I'd be a little worried about how co-dependent we are but I'm not willing to spend too much time focusing on that at the moment. It's fine." He said with a grin on his features.

"No, no I don't," he acknowledged with a chuckle as they continued to pass the bottle in between one another. "There's nobody I'd rather spend my evening with either," Axel smiled at his best friend's statement. "Seriously, Mase. Every year I'm more and more grateful about how solid our bond is. You're my brother for life."

"Ly! Come here, come join in. Right now we're all playing and singing new years songs." He encouraged grasping the blondes hand and dragging her over. "And we have cake so you know, if the song circle didn't tempt you, that'll do it." Mason spoke with bright enthusiasm as he passed her a paper plate with a piece of the sugary dessert placed on it. "You look amazing by the way."

"You don't want the real answer here do you." Mason answered with a little bit of a laugh because his brain was already working on genuine answers to the question even though he knew that hadn't really been the point of it in the first place. "I'm willing to pretend that's how it works for the evening." He grinned, taking the bottle to take a swig too. "You know, there is no way I'd rather spend new years eve, Ax."

"If you really think about it, we're technically being responsible with sharing this," Axel argued, taking another sip from the bottle before handing it back to Mason as they passed it between them. "I wonder if this alsos halves the hangover if we do this with everything we drink tonight," he mused with a snort.

"I really hope you're right. I'm not too good with outright rejection. I like to be liked." Mason admitted, knowing that he had to kind of accept that he wasn't going to be everyones cup of tea, but that didn't stop him from trying to endear himself to people.

"No you're right. I shouldn't even expect you to be trying to change that for anyone either," Lyra corrected when he pointed out how 'coming off strong' was his default personality to begin with. "You two may not be a match made in heaven but I don't she'd have any reason to hate you either."

There were very few ways to shut Mason up abruptly but the woman had definitely found one of them, and by the colour his face was turning, she had also managed to make him feel a little abashed for his lack of thought. "...Ah... I... well..." He began as he cleared his throat, searching for the right response here but seemingly coming up lacking. "Sorry. I didn't mean to sound inconsiderate." Mason eventually settled on, though he noted the way she jumped on his offer so at least she didn't seem too offended. "And after that it'll totally be on me you know."

"Eating disorders tend to do that to a person. Pizza isn't exactly a safe food when you want to eat basically zero calories," Pippa explained, probably a little too bluntly but it wasn't like there was any other explanation. Her face brightened at his suggestion, "You can buy it by the slice?! That's great! Take me there. That would be super helpful."

"I am not going to turn down that offer." Mason spoke perkily as he reached out to swipe the food from his best friend. "I'll just have to replace it with something else for you later so you don't go hungry."

"I mean if you say so," Axel snorted lightly when Mason mentioned that Halloween food was supposed to taste odd. "You do actually. Maybe you should have it then. I feel bad wasting food but I don't think I can finish this."

"Given I am still painfully single and you just pointed that out very plainly to make sure I don't get the wrong idea, you can't really state that as a reason though I appreciate your attempt to make me feel better about it." Mason called the woman out on her words with a soft laugh.

"I would take that as a compliment," Ronnie replied with a wicked grin, "Women love to tease when they like someone. I just do it with everyone though."

"Ly... I hate to kind of point it out but I'm not really very good at being anything other than myself and I kind of always come on strong. I mean, I always hope it's a good kind of strong given I'm friendly but my personality is pretty much a notch that is turned up to 100 at all times."

"And I promise she's a good one," Lyra nodded. "Although of course... proceed with caution. Like I have faith you can win her over in time, but definitely avoid coming on too strong from the start," she mentioned, considering Iris could potentially make a snap judgment about him if she was having an off day.

"Yeah, platonic love." But Mason was laughing despite that fact, because he really didn't mind. He was swift to whip out his phone at the mention of photos of their pups though, immediately flicking through to show Ronnie the most recent ones they had taken. "See, we make an awesome team with all four of us don't we. Look at our little Toad."

"Oh come on, you know I mean it with the most love ever," Ronnie said with a grin. Her eyes lit up with delight at the mention of dogs, "Oh my god, I must see! Do you have pictures?"

"How many have you run into?" Mason couldn't help but wonder how many had ended up having similar ideas this halloween. He didn't think he'd seen any more currently but he knew that was unusual. "But you made them? That's commitment and talent all rolled into one." Mason complimented in surprise. "But yeah, I think anyway... Axel isn't usually too far away."

"You are most certainly the most peppy Mario I've ever run into," Piper replied, having let out a little exclamation of surprise when the man had appeared in front of her. "Thank you. I made this dress and a matching pink one for my best friend," she confirmed, when he'd asked if she had a Princess Peach. "She shouldn't be too far actually. Grabbing us some drinks. And your Luigi? Is he about?"
