Sometimes I do wonder if atla fandom like the REAL Zuko at all because the nonsense i'm reading about him....... 😭
"He's a prodigy" nope that's AZULA, that's the point of these two characters and he's also the weakest bender of the gaang
"He's friendly, charismatic and charming" that's Aang 😭
"He's the perfect boyfriend" he's possessive and jealous, that's why Mai dumped his ass and she was RIGHT
"He did nothing wrong" i'm not saying anything here lol
"He's the most mature person of the gaang" ??? PEOPLE BE SERIOUS
This character is crazy mischaracterized, like Aang actually 😭

I got a bunch of thoughts after watching that one episode where Bart went to juvie and watched the one with Jack Lassen.
Then I stumbled and looked at the trope of rebellious misfit friends and I got an idea to draw.
I took Bart, Jessica and Nelson and just.. "Punkified" them. I just imagine them in this story where they form this little trio of unwilling accomplices turned friends who just do their thing... Start and fuck shit up lmao.
Might write a story about it someday...

I think they actually resisted Bart being a cartoonist in the future for a long time. Even though it’s so organic and seems like the obvious choice at this point, I feel like they avoided it in the beginning for various reasons. I’ve never heard Matt himself talk about it but he and I seem to think a lot alike so here’s why I imagine they (and me up until last year) resisted the idea for so long:
It would’ve seemed lazy; Even though it’s a very wise idea, it would’ve appeared to just be copy catting real-life Matt Groening and he always wanted to be more creative than that. That’s why things like Chief of Supreme Court Justice were tossed around for Bart’s future career instead because it’s a more creative reach than the more on-the-nose idea of him being a cartoonist (though Matt himself said he didn’t like the justice career because it wasn’t grandiose enough; they may have considered cartooning to be likewise).
It would’ve seemed masturbatory; it would’ve seemed like pure self insert to do that and The Simpsons aims for a higher standard of writing than ego stroking (unlike certain other shows). It wouldn’t be of course, because it’s so natural for Bart to make really good cartoons, but it would probably have appeared that way in the early days of the show.
The notion would’ve seemed too easy. In the beginning, Bart’s horizons were so open as a character that he COULD do anything, and it’s just a matter of finding a career grandiose enough to suit the great Bart Simpson. Creating The Simpsons in is own universe is the only career I would say is grandiose enough to be worthy of him at this point but who could’ve predicted what The Simpsons would become in real life in the beginning?
None of those things seem like a problem now cuz he’s become so developed over the years and the show has demonstrated further and further how everything about Bart’s character lends him to being a brilliant cartoonist.
It might seem like an understated career to the casual viewer but to create something that literally changes E V E R Y T H I N G is far and beyond the grandest thing you can do as an artist. And Bart definitely has all the capability of doing that. There’s a reason Bart being a cartoonist was always so on-the-nose, because it’s honestly just the perfect career for him.
So for an optimistic future for Bart, I now put all my investment in this idea~ And I think the series is finally starting to go that route too<3

OKAY NOW I HAVE TO GO OFF IN A RANT (not at you, @mackledberries, just on the matter of Bart’s shitty life lol) in response to this subject.
EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY!!! Homer is NOT SUBTLE about saying that Lisa is his favorite child, he has made that clear throughout the entirety of the series, and it drives me CRAZY. He seems to see it as Bart being the bad seed as opposed to Homer being the bad father. As though Bart’s disrespect and disdain for Homer doesn’t come from him being a jerkass parent. There’s a reason Lisa is as GOOD a seed as she is: HOMER IS A BETTER FATHER TO HER THAN HE IS TO BART.

Line art for a 1-pg Bart Simpson strip, “Big Bad Brother Bart”.
This was one of the earliest strips I drew as well as wrote for Bongo, and I was still working hard to get the hang of the style. I wasn’t asked to mimic the Simpsons model art – at the time Bongo was hiring cartoonists like Peter Kuper, Gilbert Hernandez and Sergio Aragones, and letting them work in their signature styles – but my OCD kicked in, and I decided I wanted to get my drawing as close as possible to “on model” as I could. I got a copy of “The Simpsons Handbook”, which was really well-done and a lot of help, and we were provided with an extensive character color guide for Sarah’s coloring work.
I ended up doing a batch of stories for Bongo over ten years or so (iirc), some co-written with Sarah, and some of which I did the art for. It was an extended learning experience as well as a great gig, hard work (trying to get the style down, and overworking the panels, as always) but mostly enjoyable and rewarding. And everyone at Bongo was great to work with, to boot.

What if since where talking about SideshowBob what if he and the Springfield mafia interacted with eachother since Bob speaks a little bit of Italian . I thought that would be an epic episode if that makes sense! And I hope it’s okay asking! 💗
I imagine an episode where they strike a deal; Bob helps them dispose of their enemies, and they help him dispose of the Simpson family

A short thing told in Reverend Lovejoy’s POV
(This Takes Place When he was younger, and that Jessica was a Baby Girl)
Today is Sunday, where I usually go to church to do my sermons, but I was busy taking care of my baby girl, Jessica, so The Parson decided to let me take her to church, it was 3 months since she was born and I had to take her to my job
at my office, I was seated on my chair, holding my baby girl in my arms
“Now, my sweet baby girl,” I said to her “I have to go do my sermon while I hold you in my arms, so please be good for daddy, ok?” With that said, Jessica snuggled upon my heart, as I smiled.
After I got ready for my sermon, I carried Jessica in one arm, as she held on to my heart, feeling all warm and soft as I went out to say my sermon.
As I said my sermon, Jessica didn’t cry or anything, she felt all warm and clam as she snuggled upon my heart while I did my sermon, and as everyone was passing the church Collection plate, I just looked at my baby girl, smiling as I held her closer to my heart, I guess she really liked my sermon.
“Hey, Reverend!” Shouted a human man with plain white skin, black hair (which was in a ponytail), and ears on his neck to me while as was not looking at the people who attended the church, he was wearing a dark blue sweater with a unzipped black jacket, a dark blue beanie, a pair of glasses, and long blackish pants, his name was Denzel Crocker and he was usually obsessed his Fairies, like really obsessed. He was busy with the church Collection plate until he realized I had my baby girl with me. “What’s that you got there?”
“Why, that’s my baby.” I replied to him. “And it’s a girl.”
“I see,” he said, a little crazied. “Maybe she can help me catch FAIRES!”
“Hey Now, you don’t want to make her cry.” I said to him
“Ugh! Fine Whatever.” He said in frustration.
“Good.” I said in relief
as church was dismissed, I said goodbye to everyone to attended there, saying that I’ll see them next Sunday, with me holding My Little Jessica in one of my arms, apparently, one Springfieldian man, Gary Chalmers, saw my precious baby daughter and came up to me.
“Hey, nice baby you got there.” He said, looking at my baby girl in curiosity
I chuckled I bit. “Thanks, she’s my precious daughter and I’m trying to do what is best for her and my wife.” I replied to him.
“Say, I have a daughter too.” He told me.
“Really?” I said in wonder.
“Yes I do, her name is Shauna, and she is either 7 or 8 years old.” He told me, “And sometimes, I don’t even know her own age!”
I chuckled a bit. “That’s good for you.” I replied to him. “See you next Sunday.”
as Gary walked away, I looked at my baby girl, smiling in proudness as she stayed to close to my heart.
“Aw, did the nice people really liked seeing you in Church?” I said to her, tickling her stomach a little as she giggled. “Did They, Jessy, Did They?” Then I held her even more closely to my heart, as I walked away with her in both of my arms. “Come on, Baby, Let’s go home, Your Mommy is waiting for us.” I said to her as we headed home to see my wife.
The End!
NOTE: this is not a deleted scene from my fanfic, it’s just a quickie
