this probably has been said before but it fucks me up how Eddie spent the entire movie in denial. everything happened so incredibly fast - they were dragged back to their original dimension and barely had time to readjust to the environment and recover from being drunk as shit before they were forced to be on the run - and Eddie has no time to process any of what's happening. it felt to me like he was both struggling to keep up with the events and to hold onto the hope that it was all going to resolve itself. even during their last conversation, Eddie is telling V that they're gonna figure it out and that they're going to see lady liberty when it's all over. not because he believes that, but because he's refusing to accept this fate. it's V who brings him back to reality, who tells him there's no way they're going to make it. and when he finally accepts that this is the end, and that they're both going to die, Venom saves him. he's just made his peace with dying and now he has to make his peace with living. the way he reaches for V, the way he can barely react, i think that was shock. he's barely accepted that they're back on their world, that there's an inevitable threat, that they're both gonna die, and now he has to accept that he's not. but Venom is. he spent so long holding tooth and nail onto the hope that they were gonna fix things, that maybe this is all a bad dream, and it's all gone in a matter of minutes.
and when he wakes up he's still holding onto hope, only to be met with silence.

Good morning, here's a hurt/comfort fic I wrote in 2 hours last night because apparently I'm still not over The Last Dance 😁
Breakfast in New York
Eddie Brock x Reader
You and Eddie spend some quality time in New York together after visiting the Statue of Liberty.
Word Count: 1,221
SPOILERS FOR VENOM: THE LAST DANCE
You faintly heard the bustling sounds of Times Square in the distance from your hotel bed as you slowly gained consciousness from your slumber. You and Eddie had decided to visit New York City to see the Statue of Liberty. Although the both of you were excited to be there, you both couldn’t help but feel bittersweet about the whole trip. After everything you and Eddie had been through just weeks ago, you knew that you both deserved a nice trip. However, it still felt odd without someone who should have been there with you. You tried to shake these thoughts from your head to attempt to sleep a little longer, but you heard stirring from the second bed on the other side of the room.
“Good morning, buddy,” you heard Eddie groggily mutter. Your eyes fluttered open and you turned to see he was lying on his back with his eyes still shut. You assumed he was dreaming when he suddenly said, “Hey, buddy.”
“Good morning, Eddie,” you replied softly. Eddie’s eyes slowly opened, staring at the ceiling for a moment as his eyebrows slightly furrowed. He turned his head in your direction to see you lying on your side, looking back at him with a hint of concern. He grinned at you as he awakened more.
“Oh, good morning, Y/N. I did it again, didn’t I?” he asked apologetically. You nodded in response.
Both of you were still grieving the loss of Venom. You knew Venom had saved not only you and Eddie, but the whole world when he stopped the Xenophages in the explosion at Area 51. It didn’t mean you don’t still wish things could have turned out differently. So many emotions rushed around in your head as you thought back to that night.
“I miss him, too,” Your voice cracked as you barely managed above a whisper. Your view of Eddie across the room became blurry as tears began to fill your eyes. You tried to compose yourself, but you began to feel warm tears stream down your cheeks. Eddie turned his whole body to face you and patted the empty spot next to him on his bed. You threw off your blankets and made your way to lie next to Eddie. All of your composure faded as you hugged yourself as close to him as you could.
“Shhh, it’s okay,” you heard Eddie’s voice choke as you felt one of his hands hold the back of your head and the other slowly rub your back.
“I wish he could have seen the Statue of Liberty with us yesterday,” you quietly sobbed.
“I know. I wish he could have, too,” Eddie replies, his voice now sounding as sad as yours. You pulled away to look at him to see he was now also crying. You gave him a sympathetic look as you held the side of his face in your hand, wiping a tear away with your thumb. He gave a small smile and pulled you in even closer than you were before. Both of you spent a couple minutes holding each other and letting out tears for a friend you both loved and missed dearly. The feeling of being in the present moment, just being in each other’s company, made the grief a little easier to handle. You both knew nobody else in the world would truly understand what the three of you had been through.
“I’m glad we still have each other,” you admitted. Eddie pulled away and grinned at you lovingly.
“I wouldn’t want it any other way,” Eddie replied as he began to stroke the top of your head. You grinned back at the gesture as you held his other hand. “You know something?”
“What?” you asked.
“I think he would be proud of us for being here,” he answered.
“I think he would be too,” you agreed.
“I know exactly what he would have said while we were at the Statue of Liberty,” Eddie chuckled.
“What’s that?” you asked as a larger smile started to form. Eddie cleared his throat and began to give his best Venom impression.
“Eddie, Y/N! It’s her! Can we climb it? It would be just like the woman and the giant gorilla in the movie we saw!” You began to giggle both at the accuracy of the voice and of Venom’s thoughts.
“Of course, we would have to tell him we couldn’t climb it. And besides, it was the Empire State Building he climbed, not the Statue of Liberty.”
“Then he would ask if we could visit that next so he could climb it!” Eddie joked. Both of you lied on your back and began to laugh the hardest you had in a while. After a few moments, you both sighed as your breathing began to slow. In that moment, your stomach growled loudly. Eddie turned to you with a raised eyebrow and you chucked sheepishly.
“Is your tummy saying that it’s time to get up?” Eddie asked, scrunching his nose.
“It can wait,” you reply as you cover your stomach with one hand.
“Breakfast does sound pretty good right about now. Why don’t we go ahead and get some since we’re awake?” Eddie suggests as he starts to push himself up.
“Not yet!” you playfully whine as you pull him back to lie next to you.
“What do you mean, not yet? Your body is clearly asking for food!” he lightly argues. “What are you in the mood for? Some eggs?” he asked as he poked your side.
“Hehey!” you giggled.
“No? What about bacon?” he suggested as he wiggled his finger against your other side. Your giggling became louder as you attempted to swat his hand away.
“Hmm… maybe sausage? Waffles? Cereal? French toast?” With each new suggestion, his finger moved to a different area of your belly. You tried to keep up with his hand to push it away, but Eddie was quick to dodge. Besides, the tingling feeling was not making your head very clear. All you could do was laugh.
“Oh, I know. How about... all of the above?” Eddie now used all five fingers to scribble on your belly.
“Hahahaha! Eddie, stop ihihit!” you shrieked in surprise.
“Are you going to get up now?” he asked as he continued wiggling his fingers all over your torso.
“Okay okay, fihihihine!” Eddie lifted his hand away to give you a chance to breathe. “On one condition.”
“And what is that?” he asked with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
“I get to choose the Broadway show we see tonight,” you offered. Eddie thought about it for a moment but gave in once he saw your pleading eyes.
“Okay, whichever one you want,” he agreed.
“Thank you!” you leapt in his arms. He chuckled and hugged you back for a few moments. Now that you had a newfound energy, both of you were ready to finally start the day.
The breakfast was great and the Broadway show was even better. Although Eddie still didn’t fully understand why everyone was singing and dancing for the entire show, he liked it better than he expected to. Either way, it didn’t matter to him as long as he was with you. Even with Venom gone, you both knew that you would be each other’s protector.

Like other people, I wasn't crazy about Memories being used here. I thought about what would work better if they had to use a modern pop song, and Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish kept coming to mind. I put this together and I don't think it's half bad.

Reblogging in case anyone needs some fluff after The Last Dance
Trouble in Paradise
Eddie Brock/Venom x Reader
Eddie Brock introduces you to a new friend. This new friend discovers an odd quirk about humans.
Based On: This Deleted Scene
Word Count: 2,495
Eddie Brock was a name you were not expecting to show up on your phone as you were about to wind down in your cabin along the shorelines of Mexico. You had been friends for a long time, but life kept you both too busy to visit often. You almost immediately picked up, excited to talk to him again.
“Eddie Brock, your name is a sight for sore eyes,” you greeted.
“Hey, Y/N,” you heard him chuckle. “I’ve got a quick question. Do you still have that beach cabin down in Mexico?”
“Yeah, I’m actually here right now,” you replied.
“What a coincidence, so am I,” he admitted.
“Really? What are you doing here?” you asked in surprise.
“Come out to the beach and I’ll explain everything,” he instructed.
“Alright, I’ll be right out,” You hung up the phone, grabbed your towel, and headed back out to the shore.
The sun turned the sky a mix of yellows and oranges as it seemed to set behind the vast horizon of the ocean. You saw a shadowed silhouette sitting close to where the tide washed in. It seemed almost human, but with something odd attached to its shoulder.
“Eddie?” you called out hesitantly. At that moment you saw not one, but two heads turn in your direction. You were certain they could see your confused look, even from the long distance between you.
“Hey, Y/N!” Eddie waved enthusiastically. “Come over, I want to introduce you to somebody.”
Your pace was slow as you tried to swallow your growing fear. You could hear the two figures mumbling to each other, but you were still unable to hear anything even as you came closer. As you approached Eddie’s side, you noticed the second figure looked like black slime coming out of Eddie’s shoulder.
“Go on, say hello,” Eddie pushed as you finally reached their side.
“Hello!” the figure yelled in a deep voice as it swiftly turned to you with large, blank eyes and rows of sharp teeth. You screamed and jumped back, almost tripping over yourself. You gripped your towel and looked fearfully at Eddie, unsure of what to do next.
“Sorry, he can be a bit much sometimes. Y/N this is Venom. Venom, Y/N,” Eddie introduced the two of you.
“Hi,” you almost whispered as you were still on guard.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let him hurt you,” Eddie reassured and turned to Venom. “Take it easy, bud. They’re a friend.”
“Well, any friend of Eddie’s is a friend of mine,” Venom replied in a softer tone. He slowly approached you again and bowed his head towards you. You froze as you gave a defensive glare to Eddie then back to Venom. Venom slowly lifted his head and looked at you expectantly. You slowly reached your hand out and he bowed his head once more. You used your fingertips to gently stroke the top of his head. He let out a noise that you thought was a growl, causing you to recoil.
“Why did you stop?” Venom asked genuinely. Your face softened as you heard Eddie chuckle in amusement. You hesitantly returned your hand to his head and he immediately resumed the “growl”. You now realized it was similar to a cat purring as you smirked at the strange situation. You pet the smooth, slimy surface of his head until he seemed satisfied.
“Come on, sit with us for a while,” Eddie patted the sand next to him as an offering. You smiled and nodded, feeling much needed relief.
“So Venom, how did you end up stuck with this guy?” you jokingly asked as you laid out you towel.
“Hey!” Eddie scowled at you.
“I’m kidding!” you laughed as you sat next to the two on your towel. “Seriously, how did you two meet?”
Eddie and Venom then proceeded to take turns telling you how Venom was from an alien race intent on eating humans and invading the planet. After finding Eddie and realizing how compatible they were as Eddie’s symbiote, Venom decided that he would rather stay on Earth and fought off his own leader to protect everyone. The two then explained how they used their combined powers to protect innocent people from bad guys (sometimes by eating them)…
“Whoa, whoa, wait, you’ve eaten people!?” you asked in shock.
“Yeah, it ain’t pretty. But Venom needs a chemical called phenethylamine to survive,” Eddie explains. “And the only two things that have that are human brains-”
“And chocolate.” Venom interrupts.
“H-how do you even eat people?” you asked, becoming a bit fearful.
“Like this.”
With that, Venom’s snake-like form sinks into Eddie’s skin. Before you could question what was happening, the black substance grows all over Eddie’s body until he is completely covered from head to toe. Eddie’s face disappeared as Venom’s teeth enveloped his entire head.
“Oh, my God!” you exclaim, half in amusement, half in fear. “Remind me never to get on your bad side and always bring you chocolate when I visit.”
“I have no doubts you’re a good person, so you’re safe. But, the chocolate is always welcome.” Venom reassures as he gently pats your head. You grinned as Venom sunk back into Eddie’s skin. He re-emerged onto Eddie’s shoulder as they continued their story.
They then proceeded to share how a piece of Venom was taken by infamous criminal Cletus Kassidy to form his own symbiote. They had just fought and defeated Kassidy and his girlfriend and were now on the run as to not cause any more trouble in San Francisco.
“Wow, you’ve been busy,” you remarked.
“Yeah, that’s for sure,” Eddie exhaled as you all paused to look at the sun setting across the water.
“Where will we go?” Venom finally asked.
“I don’t know, I don’t know,” Eddie replied before taking a deep breath. “Anywhere that needs a lethal protector, I suppose.”
“Oh, you really meant it!” Venom exclaimed joyfully. You assumed this was some sort of superhero name they came up with and grinned at the idea.
“Yeah,” Eddie said earnestly.
“We will need a cape and a mask!” Venom looked into the distance, proud of his new idea. Eddie furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. He turned to you, mouthing “what?” You had to cover your mouth to keep from bursting with laughter.
“Nnnnno, no. I think we’ve got that covered. We’re good.” Eddie persuaded.
“Wow, you two really were made for each other.” you teased.
“I’d say we’re good friends, but I-I don’t..love you, you know?” Eddie addressed Venom. “I-I mean I like you, a lot. I really like you, but love? You know, it’s uh…” Eddie paused for a moment to find the right words until he concluded with a simple “Nah.” You would have felt bad for Venom had you not seen his permanent grin somehow get wider.
“Of course, Eddie! You must fight it, sure,” Venom laughed as he saw through Eddie’s lie. You gasped before slapping a hand over your mouth to contain your own giggles. Venom sent a quick wink your way before turning back to his host.
“Hey, Eddie,” Venom addressed him.
“Yeah?” Eddie asked back.
“You do love me!” Venom proclaimed.
“No, I do not,” Eddie denied.
“You do!”
“I do not.”
“You do!”
“I do not love you.”
You couldn’t help but begin to laugh out loud at their lighthearted argument, but they continued as if they didn’t hear you.
“Yes, you do,” Venom countered.
“Not one bit.”
“You do, you love me.”
“No, not at all.”
“You do, look at you. That’s the face of a man who’s in love.”
Eddie furrowed his eyebrows with newfound confusion. “With who?” he asked. Venom sighed in frustration as your laughter doubled in volume. Their attention suddenly turned to you as you were able to calm your breathing.
“Y/N, what do you think?” Venom asked you. Your eyes shifted to Eddie as he pleadingly shook his head.
“Well, I may not be the best judge since you can read his mind,” you addressed Venom as you put your hands behind your head and lied back on your towel. “But, I think he’s lying. He definitely loves you.”
“Ha! Two against one!” Venom victoriously yelled while Eddie gasped in shock. Eddie’s wide eyes and open jaw had you hugging yourself while rolling with laughter once again.
“You traitor, I’ll give you something to laugh about!”
Before you could process what was happening, Eddie suddenly used the scissor hold to lock your legs in place. You mind finally caught up and you tried to wriggle free from his grasp.
“Oh, no. You’re not going anywhere,” he grunted as he sat up onto your thighs.
“Wh-what are you doing?” you nervously asked as you pushed at his knees.
“I’m going to show you what happens when you betray me,” he replied with an evil grin. He formed his hand into claws and growled as he shook them into your sides.
“Nononono, Eddiiiieeeee!” you shrieked. You almost forgot how ruthless he could be. “Merherherhercyyyy!” you cried. Eddie shrugged at your plea.
“I don’t give mercy easily to traitors,” he replied nonchalantly.
“Eddie, what are you doing?” Venom asked with a hint of concern.
“Oh, I’m just tickling them bud, it’s fine,” Eddie reassured. Venom tilted his head in confusion. Eddie continued his attack on you as he looked up at the symbiote. “You don’t know what that is, do you?” he asked genuinely. Venom shook his head. “It’s kind of a weird thing humans do. You poke or lightly touch certain parts of their body and it makes them laugh.” Eddie continued his attack almost subonsciously up your ribs as you were gasping for breath.
“But, it doesn’t hurt?” Venom asked with intrigue.
“As long as you’re not too rough, no,” Eddie answered. “Now, watch this.”
Eddie momentarily lifted his hands to give you a chance to breathe. This didn’t last long as he leaned back and blindly reached for your feet. He was finally able to grab your toes, causing you to squeak. Eddie looked up at Venom with a knowing grin and began to scribble against the balls of your feet.
“Waihaihaihait!” you tried to protest, but it fell on deaf ears.
“Fascinating,” Venom remarked as he leaned his head toward your feet to get a better look. As Eddie moved down to your arches, Venom nearly dodged a kick to his face and your laughter and squirming increased.
“Okayokayokayhayhay!” you admitted defeat.
“Is there only so much a person can take?” Venom asked.
“Yeah, everybody’s got a breaking point eventually. Some people can be mean and take it too far,” Eddie replied as he finally stopped and got off of your legs. “But with us, it’s all in fun. Right, Y/N?” Eddie asked as he patted your shoulder. You glared at Eddie as best you could as your giggling began to reside. Then, an interesting idea crossed your mind.
“You know what this means now, right?” you asked Eddie, still breathy.
“What?” he asked, proud of his work.
“It means he knows how to tickle you now,” you replied with more confidence.
“How right you are,” Venom said with a hint of menace as his head whipped in Eddie’s direction. Eddie’s eyes became saucers as Venom’s grin became even wider than before.
“You know, you don’t have to do this,” Eddie attempted to persuade.
“I know I don’t have to,” Venom mockingly replied. “But, I definitely want to.”
Before Eddie could get out another word, a few extra tendrils emerged from Venom and began poking around his belly.
“Hehehey, come on, man, hahaha,” Eddie began to squirm nervously.
“You’re right Eddie, this is fun,” Venom perked up at the reaction. He then evenly distributed his tendrils on both of Eddie’s sides and latched on for dear life. You could see the ends of the tendrils begin to vibrate, just as Eddie’s fingers had done to your own sides.
“NAHAHAHA, STAHAHAHAP!” Eddie cackled in a way you had never heard before. You grinned as you enjoyed seeing him let his guard down for once.
“It’s working!” Venom cried out in success. “Now, how about down here?” His head migrated down to Eddie’s feet as his tendrils followed. He curiously began to scribble over Eddie’s soles. Eddie’s pitch in laughter went so high, you couldn’t help but laugh yourself. Venom turned his head to you and it was your turn for your eyes to become wide.
“You think I forgot about you?” He slowly inched toward you as more tendrils broke from him. You hugged yourself as you giggling increased in anticipation. “Eddie is mentally begging me not to go under his arms. Would you know why that would be, Y/N?”
“Nope, no idea,” your eyes shifted everywhere as you put your arms as tight to your body as you could.
“Are you sure?” Venom teased as you felt something cold and slimy slip between the crevice of your arm and torso. You fell back with a shriek as you felt it wriggling around under your arms. With your eyes squeezed shut, you heard a similar scream erupt from Eddie. You managed to see through eyes now blurred with tears that Eddie was suffering the same fate.
“I understand why humans would do this to each other now. Both of you look so cute,” Venom cooed.
“NOHOHOHO, NOHOHOT CUHUHUTE!” Eddie managed to yell.
“IHIHIHI CAHAHAHAN’T!” was all you could get out as your laughter began to go silent.
“Alright, alright, I’m finished,” Venom finally showed mercy by sucking all of his tendrils back into his body. You and Eddie gasped in the ocean air as you let out your last bursts of laughter. After taking a moment to recover, both of you sat up with your chests still heaving.
“That was so embarrassing,” you heard Eddie mumble as he put his red face in his hands.
“But admit it, you still love me,” Venom persuaded.
“You know, bud? Maybe I do love you…a little,” Eddie sheepishly admitted.
“I knew it!” you and Venom yelled simultaneously. Eddie chuckled and shook his head at the two of you as he stood up. After slinging your towel over your shoulder, you looked up to see Eddie offering you his hand. You took it and he gently pulled you up. As you both turned toward the cabin, Eddie wrapped one arm around your shoulders and placed the other on Venom’s protruding head.
“Alright you two, how about some dinner?” he asked.
“As long as there is chocolate for dessert, I’m in,” Venom bargained.
“Ooh, chocolate does sound good,” you chimed in.
“Okay, but only if you eat all of your vegetables,” Eddie playfully scolded.
“Fine. I will leave you each one piece,” Venom offered.
“Hey!” you and Eddie both protested and Venom laughed.
The dinner was one of the best meals you ever had. Venom (mostly) behaved himself by saving each of you two pieces of chocolate.
