Stop spreading old (and false) drama about Vivziepop (creator of Hazbin Hotel)
Here is where she apologizes for and explains the stuff she got hate for in the past, updated for 2019. And it’s basically drawing some stuff she regrets now and THAT’S IT. AND THE ART WASN’T ANYTHING ILLEGAL.
So, stop bringing up stuff from almost 8 years ago and making up rumors and lies because you hate her/her work. If you don’t like Hazbin Hotel, or anything Vivziepop creates, don’t watch it, don’t look it up. It’s that simple. Don’t spread hate and misinformation.
As a final PSA, don’t automatically believe a call-out post that doesn’t have any proof (i.e. screenshots of tweets, posts, art, videos, etc) attached to it. Nowadays it’s so easy to add sources to your claims so when there is none, it’s suspicious. And when there are no sources, do some research yourself. Google them, go on their social media, see if you can find anything to back up what you read about them. And then decide for yourself whether or not you want to support them and the work they do. And it’s fine if you have a 1 strike rule and because of what someone did years ago you can’t support them, even if they apologized and learned from their mistakes. Just don’t hate on others who do still support them and don’t bring up those old mistakes to prove a point. Recognize and respect that the person is different now, and wants to put their past behind them.
So let the past be the past.

Deregulation strikes again.
“Free market” capitalism does NOT care about raging forest fires, it does not care about endangering firefighters, it does not care about people dying due to lack of healthcare insurance. Unregulated capitalism cares only about making profits, apparently at any and all costs.

some reminders about pink diamond
So after the big reveal, there was a lot of uproar, with people getting furious over what Pink Diamond did. Heck, I was one of them.
But after thinking it over, I realized that maybe some of it is being a bit overstated. There’s been a lot of talk about how Rose was evil or how she created a war because she was bored or how she only created Steven to run away from responsibility.
Y’all. The vast majority of evidence does not support this.
So anyway, here are some important reminders:
The Gem War was already going on for 1,000 years before Pink Diamond decided to fake her shattering. She did this because she thought it would end the war, and allow the Crystal Gems to live in peace. Yes, it backfired, and yes, she should have considered that the other Diamonds would seek revenge, but at the end of the day, she legitimately believed that the Diamonds wouldn’t care enough to take action if they thought she was gone.
She still started the war to protect the humans who lived there. Like, seriously, none of that changed. EARTH WOULD BE DESTROYED IF IT WEREN’T FOR HER. I mean, what did she have to gain by picking a fight with herself? All she wanted was a colony of her own. When she got it, she discovered the organic life on Earth and realized she didn’t want to go along with it anymore.
“Curiosity turned to appreciation. Appreciation turned to fondness. And fondness turned to love.”
Yes, Pink did try talking to the other Diamonds before starting a war. Remember what Steven heard in his dream. Pink Diamond did try and talk to the other Diamonds, bringing up the organic life, but they saw it as a sign of her incompetence, not as a reason to let the planet be free. After that, she tried arguing that the cities were too hard to dismantle (which obviously was a lie), but when that didn’t fly, she created the Crystal Gems and used that as an excuse.
After the war, she spent 6,000 years trying to find a way to heal the corrupted Gems. Why do you think the Crystal Gems have been bubbling all the monsters they fight? It’s been said that Rose always hoped to find a way to heal them. It’s not like they died and she just went “Eh, what can ya do?” She felt guilty about what had happened, and she spent ages trying to atone.
Honestly, I still stand by the theory that she created Steven at least in part because she hoped that a human’s capacity to grow might mean that he would eventually become powerful enough to heal them. I mean, he did go further in healing Centipeedle than Rose ever did, and he still has a lot of growth to come. It makes sense that Rose saw that she had reached a plateau and hoped that Steven could do better.
It’s not her fault that there was a power imbalance between her and Pearl. Look, this was fucked up, and it kills me, too. But Pearl’s devotion to Rose wasn’t something Rose could have helped more than she already did. Remember, she gave Pearl the choice to stay loyal to Homeworld. She encouraged Pearl to come into her own. She declared Pearl a free Pearl. But there’s only so much she could do. Yes, Pearl’s devotion to Rose/PD and her feelings of being lost after Rose was gone was tragic, and it breaks my heart. But what more could Rose do?
“Why won’t you just let me do this for you, Rose?”
“Did Rose make you feel like you were nothing?” “Rose made me feel like I was…everything.”
She left Bismuth for Steven to find. It’s clear that the reason she bubbled Bismuth (and kept it a secret) was because Bismuth would have known the truth about the shattering and wouldn’t have stood for it. But when she created Steven, she left Bismuth in the same place as her video for him. She probably figured this was her chance to let Bismuth finally be free.
Look, obviously Pink Diamond made some pretty huge miscalculations that caused a lot of pain and death. That doesn’t make her a bad person. She had to constantly face a number of hard choices where there was no easy answer, and each time, she went with what she thought was best.
Should she have ordered Pearl to keep quiet? No. Yet, at the time it seemed like the best choice.
Should she have told the other Crystal Gems the truth after the Corruption Song? Maybe. Yet, at the time it seemed like a better choice to keep it hidden.
(Should she have challenged the other Diamonds head-on without a disguise? Hell no, summoning their full wrath would have been suicide, and the Earth would get colonized anyway.)
I get it: it’s easy to demonize someone who comes from a position of power when things go wrong on a major scale. But the fact is that it’s not that simple. People have limits, people have flaws, people make mistakes. Pink is a Diamond. Her choices were always going to have far-reaching consequences, and she tried her best given what she had. We’re in a morally grey zone with both positive and negative outcomes.

Rose did not abandon everyone
Now since the latest episode came out there has been a lot of debate over what Rose did, the secrets she kept, and the war she started. I can agree with some of the arguments, she's not a perfect character.
However I can say that Rose did not abandon everyone and leave Steven to deal with the fallout.
From what we can assume from the newest episode, Pink Diamond started up a rebellion under the guise of Rose Quartz. This was used as an attempt to stop the plans of colonizing the Earth and destroying it. However when the Diamonds didn't listen, Pink faked her own death and lived on as Rose. (Also possible this was done to make the Diamonds think the rebels were an actual threat by "shattering" one of their own. Idk)
This lead to an inevitable war that ended in one final strike from the Diamonds.
This was a "scortched earth" kind of attack and because of it, only 4 gems survived uncorrupted (5 counting Amethyst still in her hole) and for Homeworld, that was it. That was the end of the earth and the rebellion, as far as they knew nobody who wasn't a diamond could survive that kind of attack.
Homeworld gems left that ball of dirt and never looked back, leaving Rose and her remaining Crystal Gems alone.
Now we don't know what exactly the Crystal Gems did exactly, but for 5,300 years they were given no threat from Homeworld and seemed to finally have been given peace, though at a heavy cost.
As centuries went by the Gems attempted to capture and heal their corrupted team members to no success. But during that time Homeworld made it so that nobody knew what happened on earth.
By either lying or covering up the history of the war, they made Rose seem like a fable to those that weren't in the Gem War, and that the diamonds were utterly victorious.
And this was this exact moment when they knew they failed and that Rose Quartz and The Cyrstal Gems somehow survived. In fact Peridot even seems confused, having not even heard of the rebels before.
Soon in all those thousands of years, Rose felt that peace was established, that Homeworld let the Earth go, and humanity could grow.
Then when she met Greg she grew to appreciate humans more. She want from first thinking of humans as precious but beneath her, to equal, to loving one in particular in a real way.
Then she found she could go even further beyond that, that she could create a human being of her very own. Someone she instantly loved so much she was happy to give up her own life so that they could come into the world, that was Steven.
Rose thought the war was over and they would never come back, she didn't abandon anyone, she made a choice to create something new out of love. Steven was not born to fight in the war with Homeworld, to clean up her mess, or to fulfill some destiny. Steven was just born because Rose loved the very idea of him.

Doug and Rob Walker are not the problem
Let me get this out of the way right now, no, this isn’t an apologist piece or a defense. For those of you who don’t know, Channel Awesome, formally ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com, is a bit of a tire fire right now due to a mass exodus of many of its’ content creators due to poor management and unforgivably appalling treatment of said producers from the head honcho of the company. I still have yet to finish that document that was released, but what I have read is making my skin crawl just thinking about it. The document is available here and several pundits on Youtube have already talked about it. As of this post one such producer, one Fredrik Knudsen of ‘Down the Rabbit Hole,’ is currently doing a live-reading of said document.
The short version is that the producers left, including old guards like Linkara and FilmBrain, because CEO of Channel Awesome is a vile, aggressive, abrasive, abusive, sexist, racist, misogynist asshole who is extremely difficult if not nigh impossible to work with, who refuses to pay any ChannelAwesome producer that isn’t part of the Chicago crew and actively goes out of his way to make sure the other producers CAN’T make money. Such as deleting accounts that aren’t exclusively Youtube, forcing producers to not post, talk about, or even have Patreon accounts, and being a selfish and greedy dick.
That CEO…is not Doug Walker.
I know that’s obvious to people who’ve read the document, but I’ve seen no small number of people grabbing their torches and pitchforks in fury, it is totally justified, except they’re storming the wrong castle. See, Doug Walker is the face of ChannelAwesome and is certainly more involved in the business end of the site than he and Rob let on, but he’s not the boss. He doesn’t call any shots, he doesn’t make any big decisions outside of anniversary specials (which they seem to have outright stopped doing after Uncanny Valley) and he’s not the one who refused to pay the producers or anything like that.
Now let me clear the air, I’m not trying to paint Doug and Rob as innocent bystanders, because they’re not. Full disclosure I’ve been a fan and admirer of them and their work for years ever since I discovered the Nostalgia Critic’s “Old vs New: Batman vs The Dark Knight” but I’m not letting that blind me to their faults. Yes, they did and said some stupid shit that they absolutely should be held accountable for and should be making amends to, particularly acting like inconsiderate dickheads during the filming of their anniversary films ‘Suburban Knights’ and ‘To Boldly Flee.’ Yes, the fact that they’ve yet to say anything about this is nothing short of infuriating and the longer they stay quiet the worse they look.
Yes, Doug and Rob are far from perfect and they’ve made plenty of mistakes over the years, and fuck yeah they owe their former colleagues some serious apologies. But they are nowhere near the problem. They aren’t helping, but the root of the problem lies with the CEO Mike Michaud.
For the record, I’ve yet to finish reading the document, but I did read a lot of it. Particularly the stories of Allison Preggler (Obscurus Lupa,) Jacob ‘Hope’ Chapman (JesusOtaku,) Lewis Lovhaug (Linkara,) Lindsay Ellis (Nostalgia Chick,) Benjamin Daniel (Benzie,) Leon Thomas (Renegade Cut,) Tom White, both anonymous cases, and former administrator Holly Brown.
All of it is fucking terrible, but the short version is this. The Walker Brothers can be a pain in the neck to work with due to poor communication skills, Doug having a bit of an ego that comes with the territory of being a capital A auteur and Rob not really giving a shit because the job he has is a job he never wanted and both of them apparently live in their own worlds, but they aren’t the ones causing all the pain and misery. Again, that’s CEO Mike Michaud, who owns both ChannelAwesome and the Nostalgia Critic IP.
Again, I’m not saying Doug and Rob are innocent because they’re not, but the difference between them and Mike Michaud is like the difference between a class clown and a bully. Sure, the clown can be annoying at times and isn’t always the most sensitive to people, but they mean well. They aren’t actively trying to hurt people, they just say and do stupid shit sometimes. The bully, on the other hand, simply wants to tower over people and boss them around while treating them like absolute garbage simply because they can and will go out of their way to physically and/or emotionally hurt someone who dares cross them.
Yes, I agree, we should change the channel. Let’s start with the man in charge. Doug and Rob have some shit to answer for, but Mike Michaud is a complete and utter irredeemable scumbag who needs to grow up or fuck off. Yes, be angry, grab your torches and pitchforks and go and raise Hell, but make sure you have the right response for the right person.
