HOW TO USE RPTHREADTRACKER: TIPS & TRICKS !!
Tumblr media
After talking about RPThreadTracker on my blog I decided to make a post filled with information about the website. This post will explain how to use the site and I will also share some pro-tips of things I personally do to make this site so convenient to use. I have tips for single blogs, multimuses, and just quality of life convenience. So stay tuned for that!
MANAGE ACCOUNT
First, let’s start with your account. In the top right corner of the website after you registered, there will be the username you chose. Please click on this. You will be met with the following screen:
Tumblr media
What I’d like for you to do here is to enable queued thread tracking. This feature is in beta (I believe?) but it’s very convenient for you guys that queue your replies!! Enabling this feature lets you mark your replies as “queued” in your tracker and they will disappear from owed threads.
MANAGE BLOGS
Again, in the bar at the very top, I want you to click on “manage blogs”. We’ll be adding your blogs now!
Tumblr media
Under “blog shortname” I want you to write your URL, but not your entire URL. Just the name. So, for me, it would mean I’d have to type spiidernerd. Then just click add blog. Do this with every RP blog that you have!
Once you’ve added your blog(s), there are a couple things you can do here. Pressing “edit” simply means you can change the URL. If you change your URL you don’t have to redo the entire process with tracking threads. Just edit the name, and the tracker will update accordingly. “Untrack” is used when you are dropping one of your blogs. BE CAREFUL WITH THIS!! This will remove all your threads for this blog!!! Last, “set on hiatus” will hide all threads for that blog. They are NOT gone. They are simply hidden until you take that blog off hiatus!
TRACKING THREADS
Onto the part you’re going through all this effort for!  I’ll walk you through each box and I’ll share some tips that I’ve picked up on since I started using RPThreadTracker.
Tumblr media
BLOG: Here you will select the blog that the thread is for. If you just replied to a starter on one of your blogs, you need to select the appropriate URL there.
THREAD TITLE: This is where things may get a little interesting for some of you, and I will share what I personally find convenient to type in here. I usually write my character’s name in all caps, followed by a /, and then the URL of the person I write with and a number. Like so: “PETER / honnleathrose 001. This gives me an immediate idea what this thread is. This is for Peter Parker, with Tumblr user honnleathrose, and it is our first thread. There’s no doubt on what this is. It’s immediately clear. This is VERY convenient for multimuse blogs but also for people that own more than one RP blog. Though even if you only have one blog right now, this is how I advice you do it. It’s good practice. If you pick up another blog later, you won’t have to edit anything.
POST ID: For this field, you need to fill in the ID number of the thread. This is easy to do, don’t fret. Go to the direct link of the thread ON YOUR OWN BLOG. This does not work with the post ID on your partner’s blog!! Keep that in mind.
Tumblr media
What I just marked in yellow is the bit that you want! That is the post ID. Just paste it in there. You can ALSO leave post ID blank! I do this to track starters I have to reply to and starters I need to write myself. This is very convenient to do, because you won’t forget about them that way! So I do recommend you do this.
WATCH FOR: Personally, I leave this blank. I don’t need it. But if you do want to use it, this is where you fill in your partner’s URL and the tracker will only update if your partner replies. This is convenient if you frequently have personals reblog your RP posts and they’re not showing any signs of leaving you the fuck alone.
TAGS: The bit that is going to make you feel like an organised savant. You can fill in anything here, and I have a few tips for you. I would use the tag ‘starter’ if the thing you are tracking is a starter YOU still need to write. Because then you can organised by the tag ‘starter’ for when you are in the mood to finally get to that starter call you neglected for 6 months. It’ll show you all of them. Next, when I was a multimuse back in the day, I used tags to tag my muses. This way I could sort my tags by the muse I wanted to write. I HIGHLY recommend doing this if you are a multimuse blog. It’s probably the best thing I did at the time. There are many more applications for this field, depending on how you personally organise your blog. But these are the things I do/did, and it was enough for me!
MANAGING YOUR THREADS
And we’re onto the last bit… how to best manage your threads. I know you can barely see the screenshot, but just hang in there with me please.
Tumblr media
I will start off with all those drop down menus and I will then move on to the blue clickable text on the right hand side of all your threads.
ORDER BY: I don’t use this personally, but you can order your threads by newest or oldest, by URL of your partners, by thread title, etc. It had a few things going on.
BULK ACTIONS: A godsent!!! You can tick off the boxes on your threads on the left hand side and then do a bulk action. Mass archive, mass untrack, mass mark as queued.
FILTER BLOGS: Here you can filter your threads by your blogs. Convenient when you only want to see the threads of a single blog.
FILTER BY TAG: With this you actually get to use those convenient tags you’ve made.
VIEW: Clicking view has the same effect as clicking on “last poster”. It just takes you to the post.
EDIT: To edit the information of your thread that you filled in previously to track it.
UNTRACK: Removes the thread from your tracker completely.
MARK QUEUED: If you enabled the queued post feature, you can use this to mark your thread as replied to & added to the queue. This should remove the thread from the “your turn” category.
ARCHIVE: This puts the thread in its own isolated category, the archive on your tracker.
EXTRA TIP!
On your dashboard in RPThreadTracker, if you scroll down, you will see a random thread generator. I love this feature. Just hit “generate” and the tracker will choose a thread for you. Do note that if you have more than one blog listed, this will go through all your blogs. But you can hit generate as many times as you like!
Tumblr media
That’s it! You can now use the tracker like a god damn pro. You will never miss a reply, as long as you remember to add your threads. You will be a God among Men. (maybe, this is not guaranteed)
