Adventures in Pinhole Photography
In early 2015 I felt the urge to re-engage with photography in its most basic form. My grand plan was to build a pinhole camera with which I could capture light and form. From this initial idea I drew up numerous sketches and designs for cameras, toying with the idea of working in a panoramic format. At this point I hit the internet to see what already existed and I came across the Ondu 135 panoramic pinhole, a beautiful little camera which can work in 35mm format or, with a quick reconfiguration, switch to a panoramic format producing images 72mm wide.
Two years on and I’m having such fun working with this beautiful camera, I thought I’d set up this tumblr as an outlet for my images. I'd still like to attempt to make my own one day as a possible side project but for now I'm happy to let the Ondu do the hard work for me as I reconnect with a simpler way of working.
This first image is the first frame captured on the first test roll of film through the camera. The roll isn’t perfect as I came to terms with exposure and overlapping frames but, as a whole, I was happy with the results. Captured on a 15 year old roll of Ilford FP4+ and developed at a local lab, the image shows a couple on a picnic blanket enjoying a game of cricket played at Avebury, Wiltshire in the summer of 2015.
