Poor guy He may have done some bad shit in his life but seriously, her really loved Martha. He really really did. And he loved his children dearly as well, but they must've been a painful reminder of Martha since one of his daughters was called Martha, and the other, Maria, was said to mirror her mother's looks. Ahhh what a life :')
Just the fact that Thomas Jefferson was suicidal after his wife’s death but he didn’t do it because he couldn’t bear the thought of being away from his kids is honestly really sad.

@billykaplxn While I would love an adaptation about the founding mothers, it would be very hard to include Martha Jefferson, as so little is known about her that it would be very hard to portray her. Heck, the only things we know about her appearance is that she had long wavy auburn hair, hazel eyes, 5", and that she was said to be more beautiful than her daughter, Maria: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/a7/08/45/a708456db2081fffa3db9da171f0f0b2.jpg (Damn Martha Jefferson had to be beautiful if she looked better than Maria who us just above) But over all, we don't know that much about her, and even then, Martha Jefferson died at 33, in 1782
I want a show about the Founding Mothers. Like give me a show about them working behind the scenes. Give me Eliza, Abigail, Dolley, Deborah, and The Marthas (both Washington and Jefferson) and what they’re lives and how they ran things while their husbands were away. Give me Sally being included with them. Give me their accomplishments and their shortcomings.
(Also they were all at least friendly with each other. So you have women getting along even though their husbands don’t.)

Sorry guys, but Adrienne and Lafayette's relationship wasn't as dandy as everyone thinks it was
Now that I've spent night up night researching them both, I'm kind of upset about the way a few biographers, Harlow Giles Unger included, describe their relationship. So to some it up for you, here's Adrienne's life story, which is strongly linked to her relationship with Lafayette: - She was born to a very rich aristocratic family in Paris, a family that was considered equally as influential as the king and queen. She was homeschooled by her mother in the company of her oldest sister, she herself being the second oldest. When she was just 12, her father arranged for her to be married to Lafayette, who was only 14 - Her mother, being a smart and sensible woman, convinced her husband to postpone Adrienne's marriage for 2 years, allowing her to finish her studies, same for Lafayette. And so the wedding was postponed and never mentioned to Adrienne, though Lafayette knew of it. Adrienne's mother also made sure that Adrienne and Lafayette casually met up for a little while as often as possible. During these meet ups, Adrienne fell deeply for Lafayette; however he did not return her feelings. It was an arranged marriage, I can't blame him. But that doesn't excuse the shit he did to Adrienne later on. - When Adrienne was 14, Lafayette 16, Adrienne's mother gave her the news of her marriage to Lafayette, and Adrienne was overjoyed. Lafayette still didn't care much about her. A week later, the two were married; Adrienne was now the Marquise de Lafayette. However, Adrienne's mother was still really overprotective, and made the two of them sleep in separate bedrooms for a year. - Lafayette then had to leave for summer military training, and when he returned, he well, got Adrienne pregnant with their first child. Keep in mind that he still didn't care for her; he only did it because he had to. However this deepened Adrienne's love for him, even if he didn't return it. - Eventually he had to return to the military training again, and during his time there, Adrienne gave birth to a little girl, whom she named Henriette. When he returned from the camp once again, he also got Adrienne pregnant, hoping to have a boy this time, but that was mainly to satisfy Adrienne's father, who was complaining about not having male grandchildren. Meanwhile Adrienne's love for him grew even more, and by the end of her first month in pregnancy with her second child, Lafayette started to care for her a little. Only a little though. - And then, Lafayette now 18, decided to go fight A FRIGGIN WAR IN AMERICA AND NOT TELL ANYONE, BECAUSE THAT'S SMART. - He later sent Adrienne a letter from his ship which basically said ''sorry love you bye'', but before she received it, Adrienne started a long series of anxiety attacks, scared as fuck about Lafayette's safety. If you read the letter he sent her you'll see how forced it sounds, but to poor Adrienne, it was her consolation, and it only deepened her love once more. - Now knowing that her husband was in America fighting a war, she began doing her best to build up support for him in France, but because Assholette left the country without telling anybody, he ended up getting pregnant Adrienne and little Henriette under house arrest. Despite this, Adrienne continued to do her best to build up support for him from their home, and she continued to try to put him in a positive public view. - And then Lafayette cheated on her. With Hamilton and Laurens. She never found out about this. - As if it couldn't get worse, Henriette died at the age of almost 2 just a week after Adrienne gave birth to her second child, which also happened to be a girl, whom she named Anastasie. SHE HAD TO DEAL WITH THE DEATH OF HER FIRSTBORN ALONE, FRIGGIN ALONE AND FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF HER SECOND CHILD WHILE LAFAYETTE WAS HAVING A FUN TIME IN AMERICA - Eventually Lafayette returned for a month to gain more troops, guns and ships for the American cause, and he was greeted with a great enthusiasm, mainly due to the support and image Adrienne founded for him. She was overjoyed at his safe return, and did her best to make sure he was well provided. However, after getting her pregnant a third time, Lafayette, who still didn't care much for her, CHEATED ON HER AGAIN, THIS TIME WITH COMTESSE DE SIMIANE, AND HE CHEATED ON ADRIENNE WITH HER FOR THE WHOLE TIME OF HIS STAY. - And this is what shattered me. Adrienne found out about him cheating on her with De Simiane, and instead of BEING ANGRY, SHE STARTED TO FEEL LIKE SHE WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR HIM, AND GUESS WHAT THIS WOMAN DID. - SHE ENCOURAGED HER CHILDREN TO CALL COMTESSE DE SIMIANE THEIR AUNT. I'LL JUST LET THAT SINK IN - Then Lafayette left for America, once again leaving a pregnant Adrienne, who once again started to have anxiety attacks concerning his safety, alone to raise their children. Adrienne never told her children what Lafayette had done, and she continued to file many papers and round up public support for Lafayette, and many more French troops went to join Lafayette in America. -When Lafayette returned to France from America for good, things didn't get much better for Adrienne. She had given birth to a son, who almost died while teething, and it once again left Adrienne weakened by anxiety. And the saddest part is that she devoted a lot of her time, and even sacrificed her sleep to make sure their son stayed alive, for yes, she did really love her children, but she believed that Lafayette would appreciate her more because she finally gave birth to a boy. Whom Lafayette named Georges Washington de Lafayette btw. - At this point Lafayette considered the very happy about his return Adrienne his friend, while she was still wholly devoted to him. Before the French Revolution began, not much happened, apart from Lafayette serving as a general, and sometimes beginning campaigns about issues in Paris, all of which Adrienne supported. - Adrienne was in charge of the family's finance, and she was given that privilege by Lafayette, who was trying to reassure that her did care, (filthy liar) and it is stated by their children that Adrienne did a better job at it than Lafayette later on. - It doesn't end here, however. After getting Adrienne pregnant for the fourth and last time, Lafayette once again cheated on her with who? The fucking queen, Marie-Antoinette of France, as if he couldn't make her feel worse about herself that he already had. - So Adrienne once again found out about him cheating on her, and once again, she started feeling like he wasn't good enough, so when the time came for her to give birth to their last child? - She named her in honour of the queen, the fucking queen, with whom Lafayette cheated on her with. While the last child was known as Virginie, her full name is Marie-Antoinette Virginie Louise de Lafayette. And she makes sure nobody finds out about any of the times he cheated that she knew of, because she didn't want him to be seen in a negative light. - HHHHH but it doesn't end there. Due to the Jacobins taking over the French Revolution when it finally kicked off, Lafayette's family was seen in a very negative way due to him saying something offensive to the Jacobins at one point, and was sentenced to the guillotine, but of course, Lafayette was caught during one of his military services and then sent to a pretty good quality prison in Austria, while Adrienne, not knowing hat had happened to him and once again suffering from anxiety attacks about his safety, was to be sent to the guillotine. -But she continued to burn any document that could get Lafayette into trouble, she defiantly didn't submit to the guards outside her home for a week while waiting for orders, and when the day came, she sent her son to America so that he wouldn't get killed, and she left her children to the watchful eye of her trusted tutor Monsieur Festrel, only for her to then be taken to the centre, where she was to be beheaded. - Due to America interrupting, she wasn't beheaded, but she had to watch her mother, grandmother and sister meet the blade of the guillotine before she herself was sent to the Paris prison, where she was raped by the guards to her cell once or twice. Yet she still deeply loved Lafayette, and was hoping to find out what happened to him. During this time, Lafayette was transported to Olmutz, a prison in Prussia. - When the news of this reached her, Adrienne, who had witnessed her mother, grandmother, and sister get sent to the guillotine, who had been raped, who didn't blame Lafayette for any of the things that happened to her but herself, she decided to go and help him get out. - So she travelled to the prison, her daughters forced her to let them tag along, and when she arrived in Prussia, news had once again reached her that every property her family owned was confiscated and that Lafayette was no longer allowed back into the country, so she added solving that to her mental to-do list. - When she demanded the emperor of Prussia release her husband, to which he refused, she basically responded with ''if he can't leave I'm going in'', torture, starvation and foul conditions, and she agreed, because she knew that if other nations learned of the emperor holding aristocratic women in prison, Prussia would be in trouble. - The first thing she did when she arrived at the cell in which Lafayette was being kept was hug him, then do everything in her power to make him as comfortable as possible. - She would give Lafayette the little food they were given, and did everything she could to stop him from getting sick. -However, she soon developed a lovely illness called Lead Poisoning. She couldn't feel or move her arms, she had horrible abscess, and she ahd bad fevers. Yet despite being so sick, Virginie described her as being the happiest she'd ever been, because she was with Lafayette. Lafayette did start to care for her now, he became quite fond of her, but honestly, he was too late - The people in charge of the prison said that she could go and get medical attention, but she wouldn't be able to return to the prison. AND SHE FRIGGIN REFUSED MEDICAL HELP BECAUSE SHE WOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO BE WITH LAFAYETTE ANYMORE. SHE LOVED HIM THIS MUCH. - The news of her refusal soon reached other nations and Prussia did have to release them, so the Lafayettes moved just outside of France. But Adrienne, still violently ill, started to run around the whole of Paris to retrieve any confiscated properties to generate income for the family, to get Lafayette a passport that allowed him into France again, and to once again build a positive image of him to the public eye. All of which she achieved. She also regained some of her health because of this. - However, Lafayette was like ''no it's good here'', so Adrienne returned to where they where staying just outside of France, and once again watched over the financial parts of her family's life, mainly because she still didn't feel good enough. Georges returned shortly after their return, and all her children had families of there own now - So they lived in relative peace and ease for a while, happy to be with her husband, who had started to deeply care for her, until ring ring, it's ur boi lead poisoning, he's still here - She fell violently ill again, and worse than last time. Scars from her previous abscess burst into new ones, she developed dangerous fevers, she had terrible migraines, she started vomiting and she once again couldn't feel or move her arms. She suffered like this for are week, until two days before Christmas. - Her children and their families, as well as Lafayette sat beside her deathbeds. Her last words to her children were: ''Je ne souffre pas'' which means ''I am not suffering'', and her last words to Lafayette were ''Je suis tout a vous'' which means ''I am all yours'' So there you go. They weren't the happy couple, at least in the beginning, like many biographers say they were, and honestly I'm sick of seeing biographies that portray them as such.
