A good model maker to look at is Ryan Nagata. He has made a plethora of excellent sci-fi props and figurines. A lot of his work has a very 1950's quality to it especially with the ray guns. There's also some of the aesthetic in the Nazi mech suit he made as it has a kind of an old diving suit quality.

The painting is also fantastic. He has a very good understanding on how to do good weathering as the mech suit, UFO and some of the ray guns have very realistic rusting as well as wear and tear.

There are also some pretty stupid modern space ship designs, a fair majority being from Elon Musk.

These rockets all just look like corn silos and poorly adapted kids drawings. The shiny silver plating is just blinding, gaudy and unnecessary. They also just look really fragile, like they could crumple under a swift breeze, it also doesn't help that they look like they're made from tin foil and duct tape.

Unlike in sci-fi media, real life space travel faces a lot more problems than you'd think. One of the main ones is that rockets have to have completely precise weight distribution so modern space crafts have to optimise their size and materials so they don't end up blowing up on the launchpad. While, in contrast, sci-fi ships are seemingly designed for aesthetics rather than practically.

A good example of this is the work of Eric Geusz as he also turns household items into space ships. His work acts as a good reference on how you can translate all of the unique shapes of the objects into various sci-fi gizmos and doodads.

For the second, it was a GameCube. Overall, I think these results are fine but could be better. I'm happiest with the first one because I put the most effort into that one.

The biggest issue I had was that none of the pictures where at very flattering or drawable angles other than the cheese greater and GameCube.

For practice on spaceship design, I created two ships using everyday household items.

The first one I did was based on a cheese greater. I imagine this ship would be some kind of heavy duty mining vessel due to the rigid shapes and sharp angles

For this project, there's a contest attached to it. And for it I had to make a poster featuring the research, process and outcomes of some of my work.

Making the poster wasn't very difficult, but I did have to edit some of the pictures to fit the square format of the poster template.

For my cereal box, I'm slightly more happy with the outcome as the development process was more involved in Photoshop rather than Maya.

Making this was more enjoyable since the majority of the work was done on Photoshop and more well versed in that than Maya.

Overall, I'm happy with how this turned out, probably even more than the UFO since there was less headache trying to navigate Maya.

With my UFO I think the final outcome is decent, however, I think if I had more time and experience on Maya I could've been better.

The process of making it wasn't terrible as all of the shapes I used were pretty simple but there was some struggle as Maya overall is a very clunky program to use and after a while of trying to navigate it, it just becomes tiresome and boring.

But I am fine with how the final product turned out.

Love and Sandwich

Love and A Sandwich is an independent maker on Etsy that makes various different collectables with one of the main ones being plushies.

All of her work is very good as all of her plushies have very excellent craftsmanship. Her plushies are mainly of these furry little creatures but she also has a fair amount of plushies based on things from popular TV shows and movies, such as the giant lemon grab.

Overall, her work is amazing and looks to be of exemplary quality.

For my god, I drew a concept for a Kamen Rider driver. For the design, I wanted to incorporate aspects of the two major designs for Balor, with the main driver resembling his design in Dungeons and Dragons while the image on the tome is meant to resemble his more Cyclops design in Irish mythology. The name of the driver is a reference to the Fomorians which is a group that Balor leads.

And to further links to his roots in Irish mythology, I added on each side of the driver the phrase "lord of battle" in Ogham which are a type of Irish runes.

For the insect I was given, I was able to create a robot out of Lego in the Lego studio program. I'm overall happy with what I was able to produce since I'm pretty well versed in the art of Lego MOCing, the only thing that I would've liked to add are weapons, I was planning on giving it some swords but the pieces I wanted to use weren't available in the program.

This was my most recent live drawing practice but I did kind of cheat with it as I just traced the base image, but this time I added some futuristic armour to it. This is the best of my live drawings but it doesn't count as it was traced.

This was another practice in live drawing this time trying to add robotic features to the drawing. This turned out slightly better than the last two but is still off at parts and needs some improvement.

This was a practice in live drawing with one sketch being in charcoal and the other being in graphite. They both turned out pretty rough but I preferred the graphite as charcoal is just very messy to use.

For plushie making, a good example for strange creatures are Fugglers.

Fugglers are a brand of plushie made by Addo play. The whole gimmick of these plushies is that they're ugly instead of cute, these can be used as great inspiration as they show the unconventional limits that plushies can be pushed to as well as how alien and unsettling the overall designs can be.
