LED in hotels
Lighting a hotel or restaurant is a complicated business. Hotels, for example, need to have lighting 24/7 – in corridors and hallways, for example, or in reception. Yet the lighting must also be adaptable, capable of creating a wide range of moods to make the guest feel welcome, safe and comfortable. LED solutions can make guests feel comfortable, at home. And do it while offering enormous savings in maintenance and energy-costs. LED solutions can create an ever-changing palette of moods, each tailor-made for a specific moment, a specific use. And equally importantly for users is the low maintenance such systems required thus greatly reducing running costs

Our online survey - the only one of its kind - lets businesses keep control of the whole process from start to finish. And there’s no need to wait, the survey can start right away - no surveyors and no sales people – it’s as easy as 1 -2 -3!

Award winning Market LED
Market LED is one of two winners that have been selected by the Falkirk Herald to be given a helping hand to turn their fledgling business into a success story. Market LED has been named as one of the winners of the Local Business Accelerators’ Award Scheme. Over the next three months, Market LED will receive free advertising in The Falkirk Herald, as well as mentoring from members of the local business community: Johnston (Falkirk) Ltd Advertising Director Charlotte Taylor, Scott Henderson of Xtreme Karting and Michell McKernon from Falkirk for Business and Falkirk Herald business editor Jill Buchanan. Eight businesses were short listed and made presentations to the judges who had a tough task selecting the final two. Charlotte Talylor said: “We looked at key areas of the business: expansion, employment, growth, mentoring and advertising. After a lot of deliberating we decided on Market LED and Hummingbird, who we believe will benefit most from LBA and look forward to working with them in the coming months.” Market LED provide energy efficient lighting that will help local and national businesses make huge saving on their electricity and lighting costs. This week Prime Minister David Cameron highlighted the role of the local newspaper industry supporting British business. He said: “Congratulations all the winners of the Local Business Accelerators scheme. It’s brilliant that so many promising young companies, from such a wide range of sectors, are benefiting from this excellent initiative. Entrepreneurship, creativity and ambition are essential for our economic recovery and through local Business Accelerators, newspapers such as The Falkirk Herald are supporting some great new British business to grow, and helping them to boos their local economy. I wish the newspapers, businesses and mentors every success over the coming months.” Later in the year, one business will be crowned the overall Local Business Accelerators winner and receive mentoring from the campaign’s national ambassador Deborah Meaden, of Dragon’s Den. Backed by high profile figures including the Prime Minister and CBI’s John Cridland, the campaign has see the local newspaper industry come together to deliver a shot in the arm for British business. Local Business Accelerators have also received the support of Stephen Welton, Business Growth Fund Chief Executive who said the initiative was providing a “powerful boost” to young businesses. John Foley, Market LED said, “We are delighted to have been selected as winners in the regional finals of Local Business Accelerators. I am looking forward to working with the mentors and learning from their business experience and growing Market LED into the preferred lighting supplier for many UK businesses.”

Philips has called for a worldwide switch to LED lighting at the UN Climate Change Conference
Tipping point reached in the development of LED lighting to combat climate change, save energy and improve people’s lives Durban, South Africa: Philips has called for a worldwide switch to LED lighting at the UN Climate Change Conference in Durban. The company is stating that a tipping point has been reached in the development of LED lighting that can now be used for general high-quality lighting in almost all applications. A switch to LED lighting will help combat climate change, save energy and improve people’s lives through increased well-being, safety and productivity where they live and work. At today’s Climate World Summit, a high-level side event convening representatives from the public and private sector, Harry Verhaar, Senior Director for energy and climate change at Philips Lighting, challenged the world’s governments and businesses to make a rapid switch to highly energy-efficient LED lighting.    “LED lighting offers both dramatic savings in energy use and maintenance costs, while at the same time enhancing the feeling of safety, security and comfort of people on streets and public spaces, in buildings and at home, “ said Verhaar. “ In fact, thanks to the latest solar and battery developments, our LED lighting solutions can provide excellent, reliable and cost-effective lighting solutions for the 1.6 billion people around the world which currently live without electricity. “ Also speaking at the World Climate Summit, Philips Africa CEO, JJ van Dongen, stressed the benefits of LED lighting for African countries. “South Africa has been very proactive in recognizing that investing in energy-efficient and sustainable lighting solutions will reduce consumption and lower public and private costs, while increasing the quality of life. Philips is committed to help African countries invest in a sustainable future by delivering the most innovative and energy-efficient lighting technology. A shift to LED lighting solutions will allow Africa to make a technology leap in the same way as mobile phones are doing right now, and offers Africa and indeed the world very significant benefits”, he said.
Currently, lighting accounts for 19% of global electricity production, according to the IEA (International Energy Agency). Around two thirds of current lighting is based on older, energy wasting technologies developed before 1970. A full switch to the latest energy-efficient LED lighting combined with smart control and management systems could provide very significant energy savings of up to 80% in many applications. Worldwide the switch to LED lighting could save energy consumption for lighting by 40%. This equates to approximately 130 billion euro’s per year in running costs and 670 million tons of avoided carbon dioxide emissions, the equivalent output of about 640 medium sized power plants. In most cases it is a simple switch to make. Over two third of the benefit could be achieved in the commercial and industrial world.
