En el año 2012 se realizó una carrera clandestina de bicicletas de piñón fijo utilizando las calles cerradas para el medio maratón por la municipalidad en la ciudad de Guatemala. En esa época, las bicicletas de piñón fijo eran bastante populares por lo que se formaron algunos colectivos que promovían su uso, y el de la bicicleta en general. En este trabajo se intenta mostrar el uso de la bicicleta de piñón fijo o fixed-gear bike como el surgimiento de una cultura urbana que va más allá de una moda. Este fue un video que se realizó para la clase de antropología visual. Es un video bastante amateur, solo muestra una pincelada de 2 meses de grabación junto con algunas actividades de jóvenes en fixed gear en la ciudad de Guatemala.

In 2012, a clandestine race of fixed-gear bicycles was carried out using the streets closed for the half marathon by the municipality in Guatemala City. At that time, fixed-gear bicycles were quite popular, so some groups that promoted their use, and that of the bicycle in general, were formed. This work tries to show the use of fixies or fixed-gear bikes as the emergence of an urban culture that goes beyond fashion.

This video was made for the visual anthropology course. It is a very amateur video, it only shows a brushstroke of 2 months of recording along with some activities of young people in fixed gear in Guatemala City.

Los Pescadores de Machalilla (2018)

Este es un trabajo exploratorio en el que la improvisación y la creatividad fueron los mayores retos. Se generaron entrevistas semi-estructuradas muy cortas y se gravaron escenas a lo largo de una noche de pesca, así como las diversas actividades en el puerto.

En el puerto Machalilla, ubicado en la costa sur de la provincia de Manabí, Ecuador, existe la “pesca artesanal” que se diferencia de la pesca industrial a partir de aspectos como la cantidad y tipo de pescado, el tamaño del barco, el área en que se les permite pescar entre otras cosas. Los barcos pesqueros salen por la noche y por la mañana envían lanchas que vuelven a la playa cargadas con pescados como las sardinas que algunos hombres cargan desde la lancha y luego ponen sobre tablones en donde los clasifican y limpian para enviarlos a empresas, mercados o que venden a particulares en distintas partes de Ecuador. En este trabajo se muestran aspectos de la vida de los pescadores y de otros actores que participan en la dinámica de la pesca artesanal.

This is an exploratory work in which improvisation and creativity were the biggest challenges. Semi-structured interviews were held and scenes were recorded throughout a night of fishing, as well as the various activities in the port.

In the Machalilla port, located in the coast of the province of Manabí, Ecuador, there is “artisanal fishing” that differs from the industrial fishery through aspects such as the amount and type of fish, the size of the boat, the area in which they are allowed fish, other things. The fishing boats go out at night and in the morning they send smaller boats that return to the beach loaded with fish such as sardines that some men load from the boat and then put on boards where they classify and clean them to send them to companies, markets or sell them to individuals in different parts of Ecuador. . This work shows aspects of the life of fishermen and other actors involved in the dynamics of fishing.

SOBRE MI:

Originaria de la Ciudad de Guatemala. Licenciada en antropología de la UVG, con maestría en Demografía del COLMEX y un diplomado internacional en Antropología de las ciudades por parte de la Universidad Rafael Landívar y el CIESAS.

Como parte de mi formación académica recibí cursos de Antropología Visual, Antropología Aplicada y Antropología Urbana, los cuales fueron, además de mi interés personal en las artes audiovisuales, particularmente importantes y crearon bases para mi desarrollo tanto en el ámbito profesional como académico.

La mayoría del trabajo de investigación que he realizado se enfoca en temas de salud y comunicación visual con metodologías participativas. Adicionalmente he trabajado en temas sobre sociedad y arte en el espacio público urbano.

Me apasionan las ciencias sociales, la cultura y el arte y busco un balance para combinar estos elementos entre mi vida profesional y mis intereses personales.

ABOUT ME:

Born in Guatemala City. I have a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology (UVG) and master's degree in Demography  (COLMEX) and international diploma in Anthropology of cities (Rafael Landívar University and CIESAS).

As part of my academic formation I received courses in Visual Anthropology, Applied Anthropology and Urban Anthropology, which were, along with my personal interest in the audiovisual arts, particularly important for me and created bases for my development both in the academic and professional environment.

Most of the research work I have done focuses on health issues and visual communication with participatory methodologies. Additionally, I have worked on topics about society and art in the urban public space.

I am passionate about the social sciences, culture and art and I am looking for a balance to combine these elements between my professional life and my personal interests.
