90 Days of Catalan Challenge
Star Date: Dissabte, 12 de novembre de 2022
End Date: Divendres, 10 de febrer de 2023
I've given myself two challenges for learning Catalan. First, I want to focus on studying Catalan for 90 days. Hopefully I can build a solid foundation in the language as a result. I will be using Assimil and Catalan Facil (youtube) as my main resources.
I also have a plan that I put together on a google spreadsheet.

Glossika Challenge [Extended]
So, I ended up winning the Glossika Challenge last month. What did I win? 3 free months of Glossika!
Last month I managed to reach 3000 reps in one month with Italian. it was nice review for me and I feel like shadowing the native speakers did help with my pronunciation a bit. however, I did not have time to explore the other languages and the other courses. So, I want to take these next three months to explore some of the other languages they have to offer.
Here’s a rough idea of how I plan to use Glossika:
Italiano (A2+) - Doing the Glossika Challenge with 100 reps of Italian a day was good. The only problem that I had was that I did not maintain 100 reps a day, so I would play catch-up every few days. I don’t want to do 400 reps of just Italian in a day again. I started from zero with Italian instead of doing the placement test. The sentences were pretty much all review but I did shadow along with the speakers and I think that helped my pronunciation a bit. I’ll just continue with the course and continue with shadowing. I’m not sure what my Italian level is. I feel like I can read more than I can produce (write/speak).
中文 (A2) - Why not? This is supposed to be a focus language for me right now anyway. I do have plenty of resources for Mandarin outside of Glossika so I may not keep up with their Mandarin course.
日本語 (A1) - I keep pausing and restarting my Japanese studies. As a result, I feel like nothing really sticks in my brain. Maybe having a small Glossika habit can help me to solidify some Japanese basics and keep a more consistent study routine going until I reach a higher level.
Türkçe (A0/A1) - I don’t know how Turkish found its way into my language studies but I’m having fun with it right now. Might as well do a bit of Glossika while I have it.
한국어 (A0) - I started the Korean course at 25 reps (5 new sentences) a day because I wanted to test out if Glossika could help me solidify Hangul in my mind. Now, I just want to continue to slowly learn Korean.
Irish (A0) - How many resources are out there for learning Irish? Not as many as more popular languages. I plan to learn irish in the future. I plan to take in person classes next year if possible. There’s also the future learn course. But, while I have the next three months of Glossika for free, I want to try out the Irish course.

¿Qué pasa, que esos ricachones no respetan ni el luto? What is it, that those rich people don't even respect mourning?
—Buen apretón —señaló el juez—, fuerte y seguro. Eso dice mucho de un hombre. "Good grip," the judge pointed out. "Strong and confident. That says a lot about a man."
—Eh, Brian, Terry y las chicas quieren ir a los billares, ¿os apuntáis? "Hey, Brian, Terry and the girls want to go to the billiards, you wanna sign up?"

multilingual basic vocabulary spreadsheet
Quite a handful of folks were interested in the list from my previous post, so here it is finished and organized!! 700+ words of basic vocabulary (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.) translated into Japanese, Russian, Spanish, German and Korean. Along with French verbs generously contributed by @adventuretaryn!!
Before you use, please read the comment at the very top. This is by no means perfect or a definitive list. This is just my little list, and I am just a student. This is a work in progress and I would be so incredibly thankful for corrections so I can learn moving forward. With that said, please please please double check as you go. I hope this is useful even just a little bit ♡
Take care and happy learning xo

Hiya! Love you blog! Would you mind talking about the use of “todavía”, “ya”, and “aún”. Me cuestan mucho!
Thanks partner! Glad you enjoy it.
Todavía vs Aún
So todavía and aún are essentially synonymous. I’d say that todavía is probably used more than aún but they are both used a lot. Note: aun without the accent make means even like in:
She even brought her kangaroo to school on Thursday.  Ella aun llevó su canguro al colegio el jueves
If you wanted to say, for example, There’s still 3 seats open on the plane, you could say either one of the examples below and they’d both be perfectly acceptable.
Hay aún 3 asientos disponibles en el avión.  Hay todavía 3 asientos disponibles en el avión.
Moving on to ya...
The primary meaning of ya  is already. However, it also carries a few other meanings as well which take a bit of time to get used to if you’re not used to hearing these. Por ejemplo: Ya comí - I already ate
ya - now “¡Necesito que lo hagas ya!” - I need you to do it now
ya - soon  “Ya van a llegar los resultados” - The results will get here soon.
ya - okay/sure “Mi hermano me llamó ayer diciendo que no podrá hacerlo mañana”.- ‘Mmm ya. Está bien” -My brother called and said he won’t be able to do it tomorrow. - “Oh okay. That’s fine.”
(basta) ya/ya (basta) - enough *This one is usually accompanied by basta either before or after but it can stand alone* “¡Ya! ¡Basta!” - Enough! Stop it!
ya - whether it be/be it “Mi perro siempre está feliz de estar conmigo ya en el carro o en la casa.” - My dog is always happy to be with me whether it be in the car or at home.
Hope this helps. If not, I’d be happy to help you understand it via message.

Not Anon from the last ask, but what are some podcasts in Spanish?
I believe Duolingo has a Spanish podcast that’s more on the learning side.
There’s also News in Slow Spanish.
Otherwise I sometimes listen to Radio Ambulante, 15 Minute Spanish for Your Job, Fallo de sistema, Nómadas, or Coffee Break Spanish

[Intermediate Listening Resources]:  Chinese TV Show recommendations!
Hi all. Lately with the virus here in China I have been stuck inside studying. I am also been watching a few new shows in my spare time lately. Here are some of my favourite for intermediate-lower advanced listeners.
Firstly, where can you watch shows?
There are an abundance of places to watch shows, especially within China but you can often find shows on Youtube or on various C/K/J-drama sites outside (though if you can it’s best to watch with only Chinese subtitles).
Tip: If you can’t understand everything, watch once with English subs, and re-watch again with Chinese subs only!
Anyway, on to my list, I have split these between TV series and reality shows:
TV Series
1. 都挺好
https://youtu.be/Y8r6WW0n_uI
Tumblr media
This is a story about family life and the burden children may feel of their parents, it reflects modern day Chinese social issues. I really enjoyed this drama
2. 亲爱的,热爱的
I have just started watching this one. It is a love story and the main character became really popular in China last year!
Tumblr media
3. 欢乐颂
This is sometimes called the Sex and the City of China, its about working women in the city of Shanghai!
Tumblr media
Variety/reality
1. 爱情保卫战
This is one of my favourites! It’s a talk show where two people go on to solve their romantic issues and four ‘experts’ give them advice. Its spoken in very natural Chinese and is very interesting to see people arguing about “He was looking at another girl” or “he has changed since we first met” haha!
Tumblr media
2. 非诚勿扰
This is the ‘Take me out’ of China, kinda… It’s essentially the same format without the crude jokes, tho. Sometimes they have foreigners on the show looking for love too.
Tumblr media
3. 外国人在中国
This show is good for intermediates as there are foreigners speaking, the level is easier to understand in general and discusses basic things such as daily life. It also can give you a glimpse into people’s lives who are here studying too!
What are you favourite shows? Share them with us below!

Chinese-speaking Youtubers
Hey everyone! Here are some Chinese-speaking youtubers. I think watching youtube helps a lot with listening comprehension and improving pronunciation, I highly recommend it! It’s just a small collection, so feel free to add more! 冏星人 Mostly book and movie reviews, other topics include mental health, psychology, or current ‘hot topics’ in Taiwanese society. Weekly updates, soothing voice, great fake beard! 囧星人今天沒吃藥 冏星人’s side channel for random stuff. Yale Chen Lifestyle, life advice, random stuff. Updates weekly, super cute voice and face! Lexie Tai Mostly feminism and LGBTQ+ topics with random stuff in between, doesn’t update that regularly. Cute personality, awesome dimples! 同志道合Lesbianingtogayther Another channel by Lexie Tai, this one’s for LGBTQ+ topics only. Hasn’t been updated in a while, so just look through the videos that are up there, they’re very useful for learning LGBTQ+ related vocabulary! 安慰记心理小店 As the title suggests: Psychology and mental health! Very informative, updates multiple times a month, and - I know I keep saying this - nice voices. 加菲猫Maya Beauty and lifestyle. Hasn’t been updated in a while. 黃阿瑪的後宮生活 Ummm… cats. Just cats. They have 7 cats. Some of them quite fat, I might add. Pretty annoying background music, but hey. Cats!

I started dabbling in Mongolian yesterday. It's a language that I've considered studying so I wanted to get a better feel for the language. Oh man, Mongolian is very challenging. I haven't even gotten into the grammar too deeply but I can already tell the pronunciation alone is going to be a challenge for me.
So, I'm not dabbling anymore. I was gonna do a 24 hour dabble session while I was fasting but forget that lol.
I did download Survival Mongolian on kindle unlimited though. The book has audio files embedded into it. It's worth checking out.

I have a kpop/music journal, a sports journal and a personal/general journal for Spanish. In my music journal I write about my thoughts on new music and some celebrity news. In my personal journal I've written about my life, my opinion on news and other topics based on prompts I e found online or from textbooks. For example, I wrote about cleaning the house once based on a textbook prompt.
does anybody have tips for writing for language practice? i’ve tried having a journal and stuff to practice but i feel like i never know what to write. all i do is work so i feel like there’s going to be very limited stuff from that perspective. is their anything personally you all have tried writing about that you felt was helpful and really helped you practice?
