German Advice for people with Asuka or other germans as your muse
You’re in an RP as Asuka or some other native german speaker and want to add some flavour with having her use german in some manner but arent fluent in german? Well, Google Translate is flawed so fear not, I have compiled a list of german exclamations you can use at your own leisure!
Hint:In german, all nouns are capitalized.
‘Du bist’ vs. ‘Sie sind’: In german, the word 'you’ has two forms: a formal (Sie) and an informal form(Du). The informal form is typically used by anyone that are on a first name basis with one another, the formal one with anyone you are on last name terms with, like your boss for example.
Theres alot of ways to tell someone to go away. Here’s a few
Hau ab! - literally translating to 'punch off’, the closest thing to an english equivalent would be 'sod off’
Verpiss dich! - Piss off!
Schleich dich! - Literally translating to “sneak yourself”, it is the south german (predominantly austrian equivalent of the aforementioned 'Hau ab’, so it depends on where in germany your character grew up.
Geh weg! - translates to 'go away’, can also be done via just saying 'Geh!’
Telling someone to shut up is important. Luckily, German has lot of ways to do just that
Halt die Klappe! - Literally translating to 'Hold the Clap’, it is one of the many equivalents of 'Shut up’. Alternatively you could simply exclaim “Klappe” for the same meaning.
Halt die Schnauze! :Literally translating to 'Hold the snout’, it is another one of the many equivalents of 'Shut up’. Again, you could simply exclaim “Schnauze” for the same meaning.
Halt den Mund! - Literally translating to 'Hold the Mouth’, it is yet another one of the many equivalents of 'Shut up’. Other than previously, just saying 'Mund’ does not produce a sensical exclamation.
Gib Ruhe! - Literally translates to “Give Silence” and basically means, yup, you guessed it: 'Shut up’
When a character breaks into their native tongue, it often is during emotional scenes. Here’s some things for that!
Ich mag dich! - Translates to 'I like you’ and is contextually identical to its english counterpart.
Ich liebe dich! - means 'I love you’ in the romantic sense.
Ich hab dich lieb! - literally meaning “I have you love”, it is the platonic equivalent of 'I love you.“
Ich hasse dich - means “I hate you”
Here’s some general exclamations for combat, for barking orders and of course, some general insults
Feuer frei! - translates to 'Fire free’, and basically means 'Fire at will’
Du Trottel - translates to 'You Fool’
Du Depp - predominantly South German alternative to 'Du Trottel.’
I hope this helps you. I might do a followup at some point.

HC that Rei got pulled into a D&D campaign when Asuka was missing a player
Party Setup:
Asuka - GM
Shinji - Neutral Good Wood Elf Monk
Kaworu: True Neutral Aasimar Bard
Mari: Chaotic Good Tiefling Rogue
Hikari: Lawful Good Human Paladin
So the brought Rei in and sat her down to roll up a chaeacter and after roughly 30 minutes, she stood there with a
Chaotic Neutral Half-Orc Barbarian with an 8 in intelligence and a 19 in Strength and a 18 in Con
And well, Asuka ended up having… and experience with GMing for her.
—-
Asuka: The gate shuts in front of you - you are trapped.
Rei: rolls a strength check - nat20 “I rip the gate out of the wall.”
Asuka: *sigh* “yup. You do that.”
——
*Combat*
Rei: *completely neutral expression and monotone voice* “I am raging.”
Asuka: *s i g h* “So you are.”

on the topic of rewriting racist d&d narratives
it takes work, yes!
it’s worth it. for both you and your players, but especially for new players who can see the game in different ways than you
examples I’ve written that you should feel free to use:
-orcs: rather than give in to the weird “tribal savages who fight all the time,” consider connecting orcs and their inate strength/constitution to the earth. in my most recent campaign setting, orcs are descended from a human champion who bested an earth primordial; the primordial, impressed with their strength, blessed them and their descendents with powerful tusks and a greater constitution.
-drow: instead of the entire drow narrative being “they’re dark skinned and bad because they betrayed the fair skinned elves and their gods,” consider playing up their connection to spiders. perhaps they worshiped a spider God who gave them the ability to blend into their darkened surroundings. if you’re married to their current aesthetic appearance, take care to present multiple drow societies that have different outlooks; not a homogenous race of black skinned slavers. consider pigmentless drow, who’ve lost all skin color because they never see the light of day. drow who use echolocation? distancing your drow from the bad connotations carried by the current zeitgeist is a useful endeavor
-include elves of color in your game
-drop the ‘tribal’ aesthetic and the connotations that goblins and other monstrous races have. it’s lazy (note, tribes and other similar social structures are still perfectly valid social structures; but if the only example of them in your game world is the violent, monstrous people who seek to destory “civilized communities” that sends a bad message about real life tribes and their validity
-focus less on race and more on societies; a society can be evil or good, but a race cannot
-consider that fantasy races have no reason to conform to any gendered structures (especially our current human binary). dwarvish societies who express their varied and fluid genders through beard braiding. elvish societies who reproduce asexually. don’t limit yourself to what you can relate to from a 21st century human perspective
it takes a bit of elbow grease to decolonize your d&d, and the process is never done, but in my own experience, it’s only ever lead to more innovative and engaging experiences!

"Oi yo, Mari here. Just out of curiosity, what's your favourite thing do when you're on your own?"

“I’m not sure. In xenopsychological terms, I’m not sure if I’m supposed to enjoy things. However, some routine actions I take delight in include washing the dishes, doing laundry, vacuuming around the apartment and pretty much making a janitor’s life slightly easier.”

"Okay but using 'supposed to' in a psychological context sounds like an inherent falsehood. Only when you look at all the rules and ask 'why?', will you be free."
Mari blinked.
"What? I'm a sociologist!"
