Probably been said a billion times before but Kurapika’s desire for vengeance and justice taking the literal form of chains is punishing himself more than any of his enemies. He’s the one wearing chains at all times. His choice of nen- the chains- are something he wears at all times whether or not it’s visible. It’s an extremely overt metaphor that he always carries his grief and rage even when no one can see it. And it represents the fact that he has created his own prison/punishment which is revolving his entire life around vengeance.

Again, extremely on the nose and not a difficult observation to make, but the thought that his nen itself is a manifestation of his grief is depressing me.
