Hi! :) @randomoutsiders so my phone is deciding to fuck up today which means i can't dm you back so i've had to make a post on it! 'Recieved Pronunciation' or 'RP Accent' is the 'standard british accent for southern england' meaning it's the most common way of talk for people from the south. Now anyone that lives in England knows that the majority of the South is posh. The South includes part countryside and part edge of London-ish.

Now Sirius doesn't come from the countryside, he comes from the Borough of Islington in London, which is a far south area of london and is known to be quite posh. Minimum litter, Minimum gangs, little to no drug dealing etc. Basically where Privileged people live (google islington borough of london and then google poor parts of london and you'll see a huge difference) Sirius comes from aristocratic lineage we learnt, which means he isn't some little rich jerk like James is, he's an ARISTOCRAT, his family have been elite for centuries, it's in their blood basically. Whereas James' family got rich from ancestors working hard and founding things and making things (James' dad created the Sleakeazy potion and quadrupled the family fortune) whereas Sirius family doesn't have to work at all.

These types of people have very posh accents, the types that make you think they're stuck up pricks. They pronounce 'bath' like 'b-ar-th' and 'dance' like 'd-ar-nce' (i'll link a video on RP for u 💖) they are very clear in the way they talk and have a wide range of vocabulary. Have you ever watched Dorian Gray? The 2009 film? I suggest watching clips and listening to the way ben barnes speaks, thats exactly how Sirius Black would speak. I feel like over the years the accent would fade, especially after he ran away but it would still be there for the most part. (Regulus and any other member of the black family e.g Bellatrix, Narcissa, Andromeda would also talk like that, and so would the majority of the pureblood slytherins.)

honestly i didn’t know writing for sirius would be so fun, also haha 1am me likes angst so...

You rushed out of the potions classroom. You hadn't even bothered to put your book away as you held it to your chest and sped down the semi-lit dungeon hallways.

"(Y/n), wait!" Sirius called out, he pushed his way through cloaked bodies to get to you. "Stop! Just stop," he yelled out again. Deciding to humor him one last time, you stopped. He caught up to you and grabbed your shoulder and yanked you around to meet his gaze.

"(Y/n), listen to me ple-" he started before you cut him off, "No, I trusted you. I thought you were going to be different this time around."

The small gaggle of onlookers parted as you turned to leave. Sirius truly did sound sincere when he said, "(Y/n), I'm sorry." 

"You're not sorry it happened, you're just sorry you got caught," you scoffed. You turned your head away and walked through the dwindling crowd. Sirius wanted to run after you and tell you how much you meant to him, but the bracing arm of Remus stopped him before it could get worse.

-that the marauders WERE teenagers and boys after all, i've seen writers romanticise them so much whereas if you keep it real and raw it's so much more realistic to read. Boys their age, esp the marauders considering they were popular, are insensitive. It's a well known fact LMAO, boys that age are insensitive gits. And considering it's canon that James and Sirius were arrogant and reckless and thought they were gods gift LMAO try adding that to your writing :) Love your work! ❤️

this advice is so incredibly helpful you have no clue!! it’s definitely important to really embrace the characters that you write for and this really really helps me out!! i think my issue is that i romanticize the characters because it’s a romantic-esque situation, and thus i tend to make them out to be so much more kind and gentle than they really are!! but thank you so much for helping me out with this it means a ton!! all my love 💘💘

@randomoutsiders as a british person can i just say you're definitely NOT over using the m's and s's 💀 No british person says "I am okay." unless they're posh with an RP accent. We say 'm okay and 's okay A LOT. My advice is try using a Recieved Pronunciation accent for Sirius (considering he's from an aristocratic family) as he would definitely have a posh accent, but other than that it's fine

hi!!! no, i really appreciate the criticism!! the only reason i use it that often is to show the slur that comes with that British accent. however, that is definitely something i will change in my writing from now on. thank you so much for reaching out!!! <333
