Heal Your Heart Potion
A tea spell for getting past emotional pain/exhaustion and bringing in comfort and self love -💌
Collect: a mug, vanilla black tea (or black tea and vanilla extract), cinnamon, milk (or milk substitute), honey, rose quartz and/or amethyst
Take your mug and put in your tea bag with a sprinkle of cinnamon (and vanilla extract if you’re using that)
Fill up the mug with milk and heat it to your desired temperature
Take a heaping spoonful of honey and stir it in, clockwise to bring comforting/empowering energy and counterclockwise to banish negativity and emotional pain
Charge your tea with the rose quartz and/or amethyst
Sit down with your tea
Put your hands around the mug and feel the warmth and comfort
As you’re drinking the tea slowly, imagine it healing you from the inside out; targeting your emotions, your mind and your heart, and then radiating that energy to the outside

“Don’t You Boudé” Anger and Grief Relieving Spell
Hey y’all! This one’s for all you Southern witches. This is actually a trick my grandmother taught me when I was little that I later adapted for witchcraft. Swamp witch that I am, it’s pretty intuitive stuff. All you really need is Spanish Moss and some anger or grief.
This is a spell for when you’re spitting mad. For when you can’t forgive. For when it’s been a week and you’re still looking for a fight. When you’ve cried all the tears you thought you had and still they keep coming. This is a spell for all you polite Southerners whose fingers are itching for that shotgun or failing that, that curse you’ve been dying to use.
Now Spanish Moss has a reputation for being used primarily in negative witchcraft. It’s used in curses, War Water, gris-gris, and in poppets and other sympathetic magic.
The reason for this is its absorbent properties. Spanish moss can absorb up to ten times its weight in water, and similarly, it soaks up magic and energy quite effectively. For our purposes, rather that use that to store negative energy for a curse, we’re going to use it help you get rid of all that anger or grief without actually taking it out on anyone.
Ingredients:
⚜ Spanish Moss
(Optional):
⚜ Plastic Ziploc Bag
⚜ Pen and Paper
I’d like to start off by saying I’ve never had a problem with chiggers. I used to play with spanish moss all the time as a kid. I wore it like a wig, and not once did I get chigger bites. The reason for this is I generally pull the moss right off the tree. Chiggers don’t infest moss until it’s hit the ground, so if you stick to the stuff actually in the branches you should be fine.
⚜ Clean the Moss: For the more cautious, gather the spanish moss while wearing gloves and seal it in a plastic bag for a few days before use. (I’ve also heard microwaving it for a few minutes works.) ⚜ Gather up the Negative: Start off by holding the moss and meditating on the negativity you want to be rid of. This can be your own negative thoughts or exterior negative influences in your life. ⚜ Pin it Down: If it helps you, you can also write down on a slip of paper the thing or person that is bringing negativity to your life and wrap it into the strands of the moss. ⚜ Tell the Moss: Press the moss to your lips and name all those things making you angry or sad. Focus on taking that negative energy and breathing it out into the moss. Let the moss soak it up. (My grandmother always told me to yell it as loud as I could, but if that’s not possible, do what works for you. Whisper it, say it, think it, write it.) ⚜ Give it Back: Once you’re done, take the moss and put it back on a tree secure enough that it will stay, but still with enough room to drape. As the wind blows through the moss, it will take away all that anger or sorrow with it.

Holly Water 🌿
Holly is an evergreen used for protection. It is also associated with death & rebirth and when brought inside invites the fair folk to take shelter in your home.
🌱 What is Holly Water? 🌱
Holly Water is water infused with Holly.
It has protective properties.
It is usually made by soaking the leaves in spring water overnight and is said to be more potent when left to soak under a full moon.
🍃 What You’ll Need 🍃
🌿 holly leaves
🌿 distilled or spring water
🌿 bowl or bottle (preferably glass)
🌿 any additional herbs, crystals etc. of your choosing.
Submerge or cover the leaves and let them soak overnight. And voilà, you have yourself some holly water.
Leave outside where the moonlight can get to the vessel if you prefer.
You can also infuse this with crystals or other herbs for additional properties or even leave a crystal beside/on top of the vessel if it’s water soluble.
Note: do not use the berries as they are toxic.
Please be careful if ingesting Holly water.
🌿How to use it 🌿
🍃 as a blessing to sprinkle on people
🍃 for anointing or dressing candles
🍃 for cleaning or cleansing
🍃 for anointing or drawing sigils on oneself
🍃 in tea (please be wary if ingesting)
🍃 as an offering
🍃 as an addition to your altar
🍃 for charging
🍃 for mixing with inks or paints
🍃 as a protective spray
🍃 in a bath (or shower ritual)
🍃 in jar spells or witches brews
Holly is associated so Holly Water could be incorporated into work involving any of these.

Eight Forms of Creating Potions
Yes, this is from a Hogwarts text, however, the information contained therein is accurate and relevant and certainly worth sharing on this blog, if only to fully expand upon the type of material I hope to cover here.
Infusions
An infusion is a form of water based potion, similar to a tea, and best suited for immediate ingestion of delicate ingredients such leaves or petals. To make a magical infusion: pour boiling water over your ingredients in goblet and leave to infuse for 5-10 minutes, stirring frequently. Strain before drinking if necessary. The leaves in an infusion need to steep longer than your average herbal tea, to allow enough time to release their phytochemicals, which are the active ingredients of the potion.
Decoctions
A decoction is another water based potion designed for immediate ingestion. However, it is a more concentrated brew than an infusion and is usually reserved for tougher ingredients such as roots or bark – where prolonged stewing is needed to release the phytochemicals. A decoction can also be reduced, which is to say, it can be made more concentrated by prolonged simmering which evaporates the water. To make a decoction: simmer your ingredients in water in a cauldron over low heat for 10-30 minutes; then strain. Reduce if necessary with further simmering over a low heat.
Tinctures
A tincture is an alcohol based potion. It fulfills the same function as an infusion or decoction but with the added advantage that it will keep for up to a year. A tincture is suitable for both delicate leaves and tougher materials such as bark as the alcohol releases the chemicals very effectively and in a similar way to the prolonged simmering of a decoction. To make a tincture: steep your ingredients in vodka or another spirit for a week. This allows time for the alcohol to release the active elements in your plant materials. After a week, strain off the liquid into a vial and store for up to a year. Administer sparingly, a tablespoon at a time.
Vinegars
A vinegar fulfils the same purpose as a tincture except that vinegar is used instead of alcohol. Prepare your vinegar in the same manner as a tincture and store for up to a year. A vinegar is useful in the case of alcohol intolerance or where the herb used is particularly bitter as the vinegar will mask it to a great extent.
Syrups
A syrup is the most palatable form of potion. Here magical ingredients are preserved in a sugar solution. A syrup is another potion that will keep for up to a year. It is best suited for occasional use at it is very sweet and could cause tooth decay if taken regularly. A syrup can be taken by the spoonful or alternatively diluter in water in a similar manner to a fruit squash. To make a syrup: first make an infusion or decoction of your ingredients and reduce if necessary. Strain and add sugar to the potion, stirring frequently, until the brew won’t dissolve any more sugar and resembles a syrup. Store in an airtight bottle in a cool, dark place.
Poultices
A poultice is a wad of chopped plant material that is held in place directly over a wound by a bandage. To prepare a poultice: chop your fresh herb and apply directly to a wound or infection. Hold in place over the wound with a bandage. If using chopped dried herbs rehydrate them with some water first. If the herb is tough and hard to handle, try adding some vinegar diluter in water to your poultice.
Fomentations
Fomentations or compresses are cloths that have been dipped in an herbal solution – such as an infusion, decoction, or a tincture – and then are applied to a wound. To prepare a fomentation: first create the required infusion, decoction, or tincture. Then dip your cloth into the liquid, quite liberally, and apply. It is important to use a very clean cloth to prevent the spread of infection.
Salves
A salve is very similar to a lotion or a cream. Magical ingredients are mixed in base of oils or fats for external application to the skin.

Nocturnal witchcraft 🌙🌖✨
By: @wxtches-energies
What it is:
Drawing energy from the night (Darkness, Moon phases, stars ect.)
What it’s not:
Doing witchcraft at night/in the dark
Intro:
Being a Nocturnal witch means that you practice your craft using the nights energies. A lot of this type of craft focuses on drawing out the energies of the night for then or later use. For a few examples… you can make Moon water and save it to make tea later in the morning. You can use the energies of the night through sigils to charge you. The stars shine bright and look pretty, use their energy for glamours.
Opening the connection between you and the night
Make a calming tea: Peppermint or green tea (here’s a link to my own peppermint and orange peel tea recipe)
Light incense
Drink Moon water
Draw sigils on your hands or wrists before starting anything
Light candles (have their colours correspond with a moon phase or correspond with the night)
Do a tarot spread (Moon phase tarot spreads )
Do candle divination in the dark
Colours that correspond with the night
Blue (dark shades)
Purple (dark shades)
Grey
Red (dark shades)
Silver
Black
Incense that corresponds with the night
Jasmine
Patachouli
Sandalwood
Myrrh
Rose
Musk
Amber
Frankincense
Copal
Pine/forest
Anything musky really.
Crystals that correspond with the night
Onyx
Black tourmaline
Amber
Smoky quartz
Hematite
Dark coloured Agates
Azurite
Bloodstone
Garnet
Labradorite
Malachite
Aegirine
Apatite (Blue)
Nuumite
Herbs that correspond with the night
Evening primrose
Casablanca lily
Dutchman’s pipe cactus
Night bloom water lillies
Nottingham catchfly
Mugwort
Moon flowers
Four o’clocks
BlackBerry
Night gladiolus
Dragon fruit flowers
Ginger
Hazel
Bay
Sandalwood
Jasmine
Rose
Lilac
Thyme
Here’s a link to a post with a few of these herbs listed that goes into detail about them
Deities of the night
Hypnos: God of sleep
- calms you into a deep sleep
Erebus: God of darkness
- Helps you discover what’s hidden
Nyx: Godess of the night
-Promotes mischief
-Protects children/innocence
Morpheus: God of dreams
- Guides you in your dreams
Phobetor: God of nightmares
-Appears in dreams as an animal or monster
- Will also appear as a living animal to communicate with mortals
Phantasos: God of surreal (weird) dreams
- Gives you weird dreams that are hard to interpret, but are very prophetic
Ideas for where to use nocturnal witchcraft
- Divination: Make tarot spreads that correspond with moon phases
-Dream magick: As you close up other stuff for the night, practice some dream magick by making sachets for your pillows for example
- Use Moon water in tea, cooking or in spells
- Make sigils related to the night, as you sleep they will absorb the darkness and the current moon phase and then when it’s day, the signs intent will be released until sundown.
-Cosmic witchcraft: the night is perfect for astrology ! Why not take some of the energies from specific stars or planets?

How I Rephrase Questions for Divination
Instead of…
Am I going to get the job?
Try…
What can I do to be the best candidate for the job?
Instead of…
Will I ever be happy?
Try…
What can I do to be happy with my life as it is?
Instead of…
When will they call me?
Try…
How can I attract people to my life who will respect my time and put effort into being with me?
Instead of…
Should I dump/leave them? <imo, if you’re asking, the answer is yes>
Try…
What do I need to do in order to have a healthy, happy relationship?
Instead of…
Will I have a good day today?
Try…
What can I do to make today a good day?
The questions you ask should empower you to make a difference in your life, because the future is what you make of it.

Witchcraft does not try to invalidate science.
I often receive anonymous messages online (which I usually delete) saying that I’m a “special snowflake” who is just trying to escape reality. Or that witchcraft is fake because it breaks the laws of science.
Now, I’m working towards my engineering degree. When I was six I went up to my parents and said, “Santa Claus isn’t real. None of those are other things are, too. It’s impossible.” (Sorry kids). Trust me, magic and witchcraft are not trying to ignore the laws of the universe.
Witchcraft is a spiritual practice, an exploration into the unknown. We, as humans, will never be able to explain everything in our universe. Phenomena can occur repeatedly and still be deemed unexplainable by science. And once we find the answer to one question, we are only left to face those newly arisen.
For me, witchcraft is a way to escape that side of my humanity. Magic is how I stop asking “Why?” and begin to appreciate the wonders surrounding us. One of my favorite ways I’ve heard it being described is as “interactive prayer”. Now, I’m not religious, but it is a way for me to work with the unexplainable energies of nature and the universe in a way the science I so dearly love cannot. (And, yes, you can be a witch and be athiest/agnostic. However, that’s a subject for another post.) Magic is freedom of expression, a way for me to declutter my mind and appreciate the parts of it I rarely use in my line of study.
Witchcraft is also a way for me to connect with nature. I am usually surrounded by computers, walls, and electric lights. Witchcraft is how I dedicate part of my day to the natural world. Maybe some of those natural energies do have certain effects on my life; maybe some rituals and spells are truly world hanging. Throughout our lives we will encounter things that science cannot explain, and, to me, witchcraft is a method to connect with them.
Science can’t explain everything, and neither can magic. However, magic does allow me to appreciate and develop an understanding with the mysteries of the universe we cannot yet grasp. Now, that I believe is truly meaningful.

Connecting with Deities for Beginners
First: religious or spiritual belief is entirely optional in witchcraft. Your own divinity and power to manifest does not reduce because you’re not throwing food at your altar for a “patron deity” every week. In fact, patron deities are a lot rarer than tumblr might have you believe. Allow this process to be what it is - a process. Allow time to discover your spiritual home. There’s no rush. You’ve lived lifetimes and you will live more.
If you feel called toward connecting with deity, here’s my advice: write. Writing forces you to slow your thinking down and truly consider your ideas, thoughts, and desires. Writing pieces of yourself down puts them into the universe.
Take these ideas into a journal that you’ve chosen with an intention to be a place for spiritual work. It can be a Book of Shadows or something else. Try these prompts - if you don’t know the answers to these questions, it’s an opportunity to dive into yourself!
1. Numbers: Are there numbers you’ve felt drawn to? Do you have any lucky numbers? Do things always work out the first time you try them, or does it seem to always take three - or seven? Do your relationships with others come in twos or fives? Does your birthday mean anything to you? What about your birth time, or place? If there’s a number you feel at home with, explore it! What deities are related to it? What direction? In my case, 3 is incredibly powerful in all aspects of my life. I’ve found Vishnu and Auset to be my focal points and recognize 3 in them. Vishnu has had 9 incarnations (3x3) and Auset recovered Ausar from the dead to become pregnant and give birth to their child.
2. Animals: Yes, everyone has an opinion about cats or dogs. But maybe you find yourself watching spiders closely rather than jumping away, or the finches in your yard carry weight when you see them. Maybe you found yourself getting a dragonfly tattoo out of nowhere, or there’s something about the octopus that gets your heart swelling with intrigue. Write these down. Check the World Wildlife Foundations adoptable endangered species. Which would you choose? What element or directions do you associate these animals with? Which ones do you want to experiment calling upon?
3. Music: I don’t mean the radio. Think about the music you go to when you’re emotionally well; not full of happiness, not in a valley of sadness or pain. What do you like to study to, meditate to? What songs come on when you’re out at restaurants? Is there a song that just pops up at the strangest or most needed of times? Look at the words, the genre, the meaning of these songs or these types of music. If you’re into soundscapes, seek out elemental or nature deities. If you like hip-hop, seek out deities who are playful or assertive. Classical could lead you to deities of balance or justice. Try making music, just with your hands on the table. What rhythms do you find yourself producing? What’s your vibration?
4. Joyous Moments: What makes you happy? Maybe bath bombs aren’t your thing, but tea in the morning is. Do you like being surrounded by friends, family, or strangers? Write down the moments of your life where you felt the most blissful. Write down what moments you want to collect before this life has ended. What deities reflect similar habits or goals? If you want to backpack along the Ganges or in Europe, think about deities of travel and movement. If you want to build a family, look at Mother Goddesses.
5. Weirdnesses: This might be the most important and will require slowly opening your inner eye. Look! For! Weirdness! These are not coincidences, these are communications. Track your moods, your feelings, your interactions. Did a friend mention a film or historical figure that’s been in the back of your mind lately? Did that license plate you read have the initials of someone you care about? What imagery or feelings keep appearing in your dreams? Do you keep finding pennies everywhere you go? If you’re not experiencing weirdnesses in your life, throw yourself into a new situation, new people, hobby, or activity. Breaking routine is an excellent way to invite the universe to have a hand in authoring your day.
These are simple journaling activities to help you place yourself in the greater world we occupy. Spiritual journeys are deep, personal, and a long-term commitment. Don’t choose a deity just because they’re popular, or you feel like you need one.
Spirit guides are already here, waiting for you to listen. The more you reflect on the inner workings of your mind and heart, the more you’re saying YES to magic and saying YES to ascension.

Talk to your house
Your house is a sentient being with it’s own spirit and soul. Some people identify this spirit as their household deities or friendly house spirits. But some people have altogether forgotten how important the spirit of their house is. Talk to your house. Houses that have been ignored tend to be dull, tired and susceptible to hauntings and negative energies. So talk to your house, listen to its aches and pains, say hello. Tell it that you come in peace, tell it that you are there to listen to it speak. Be grateful to your house. And watch the energies of your home transform themselves into joy.
