A Night In

it’s the avengers compound 2012 era fic we all love, but as a moodboard 😂

the games i think would be regular appearances at avengers’ game night are as follows: monopoly, clue, scrabble, and uno. the fact that all the avengers can be toxically competitive at times makes it even more chaotic. 

steve is ruthless when it comes to scrabble because him and bucky had the game back in the 30′s, and steve sometimes gets a little caught up in the competitive spirit. natasha is a genius at clue (she hasn’t lost yet) but steve still thinks he can win every time. 

and of course, there’s all the snacks and liquor they could ever want :)

A/N: i know nothing about puppies so forgive me if the puppy behavior in this is wrong

this is for @manwithaplanbingo for the squares meet cute and rainstorm

summary: steve thought retirement meant you didn't have to get up at 5am anymore. bailey–and fate–seem to have other plans.

Steve has a dog. A puppy, really. The sort that nips at your ankles and licks your face.

He’d named her Bailey.

He’s most acutely aware of her presence in his life at about five in the morning, when she decides she simply must go outside.

“Okay.” Steve laughs, picking up the fur ball on his chest. “I'm up. I’m up.”

Steve pulls on a pair of sweatpants as Bailey runs circles around his feet, little paws clicking against the hardwood.

The air stings as he steps outside. It’s the sort of morning that makes you glad for warm drinks, makes you ache to go back home.

He’s so caught up in pulling his–too thin–jacket tighter around himself, that Bailey’s leash completely slips from his hand.

“Bailey!”

She leaves Steve in the dust, and runs right into you.

You dissolve into laughter, crouch to scratch at her ears.

“Oh, hi, baby,” you murmur. “Hi, sweetheart. Where’s your family, hm?”

Steve, sheepish, lifts a hand. “That’d be me.”

You rise to your full height, hand Steve Bailey’s leash.

“You’ve got an awfully cute puppy.”

“Thanks.” Steve smiles. “My friends got her for me. Thought she’d give me some domesticity.” Steve shakes his head, chuckles. “I don’t know why I just told you that.”

“I don’t mind.” You shrug, smile at him. There’s a pause and then, “Is she helping?”

Steve, too lost in his own head–or maybe it’s your eyes–has no idea what you’re talking about. “Hm?”

You chuckle. “Your dog. Is she helping?”

“Oh.” He laughs, mortified. “Sometimes.” He nods. “Other times,” he leans down, ruffles the fur behind her ears. “All she seems to do is wake me up at 5am.”

You laugh, your head titled back, a thing that takes over your whole body.

It makes Steve’s heart swell.

“You know,” he begins, “we usually take our walks alone.”

“Naturally.” You nod.

“But…if you wanted to come along.” He makes a show of shrugging. “I don’t think Bailey would mind.”

“No?”

He shakes his head. “I’d like it too.”

You smile, a slow thing. “Well, alright then.”

And just like that, the sky opens up, soaking the both of you to the bone.

You pull the hood of your jacket over your head. “What else were jackets invented for?”

All Steve can do is laugh.

He pulls his own hood up, and the two of you set off, Bailey leading the way.

headcanon that steve and bucky go to the park by the compound after the first storm of the winter, and steve’s artistic ability allows them to create these really amazing snow sculptures/snowmen

but other times, his 1940’s humor combined with his artistic abilities help him come up with ideas that aren’t as wholesome as the general public’s image of “captain america”

whoever runs the public relations department for the avengers needs a raise after all the calls they’ve dealt with about it, and maybe they should consider moving to florida 😂

A/N: i'm sure there's a proper way to play minecraft but i do not care to learn it. steve plays minecraft the way i do and we love that for him.

this is for @manwithaplanbingo to fill the squares "you want a piece of me?" and playing video games

summary: in which you and steve play minecraft

Steve’s favorite is the dynamite.

He likes to watch little blocks fly this way and that as it explodes after he lights it. He likes the crater it leaves in the ground once it’s finished. The ones that get left behind, that he has to go light individually, are even fun.

It makes him happy, he’s realized, and that’s not some Steve takes lightly–even if it is trivial.

He drops the little gray stone steps in front the of the light wooden door, switches to the little red blocks of TNT, and sets about dropping blocks of it all over the house–mansion, really–he’s spent the day building.

It’s then that you walk into the room.

“Whatcha doing, Stevie?,” you ask as you sit down next to him on the couch.

He looks over at you. You’re wearing one of his hoodies–one of his favorites, he notices, and a pair of pajama pants.

The scene is so soft–you, the way you look at him–he can’t help but lean over and kiss you.

“’M blowing this up.”

“I see that.” You nod, slight chuckle in your voice. “You want some help?”

He reaches for your controller where it sits on the end table, hands it to you. It doesn’t take long at all for you to be flying around, dropping blocks of dynamite as you go.

“So, what’s the story?”

Steve looks at the little wooden house and hums. “A man built it for his lover.”

“Mhm.”

“But she hates it, so–”

“She’s going to blow it up.”

He smiles. “Exactly.”

Steve hadn’t known exactly what sort of life he wanted when he’d given up the title of Captain America. He’d been imagining a lot of free time. Maybe a lot of loitering in the supermarket, trying the grapes before be buys them–like any old man would.

But, this, this is much better than he could have imagined, better than anything he could have dreamed up.

“Are you ready?”

“One last…” you trail off, dropping a few more blocks on top of the roof to make a pyramid. “There we go.”

With a few clicks, you both set the blocks alight.

When it’s done, the spectacle finished, you ask, “You wanna build it again and burn it down this time?”

Steve gives you a lopsided grin. “I’ll do the floor, you do the walls?”

“I bet I’ll be done before you,” you hum in a sing-song voice.

“Yeah?” Steve asks. “You want a piece of me?”

“Show me what you’ve got, Rogers.”

The two of you start to build your respective portions, easy silence falling over you.

Among the little wooden blocks, and the flowers you insist upon adding next to the front door, Steve realizes how lucky he is.
