SbN Review: Mantorii MTO
Mantorii is another player in the online MTM game offering MTO shoes.  I am always interested in trying out online MTM companies in my own pursuit of ‘perfection’ in any shape or form.  Mantorii has been another successful stop.
Mantorii and I worked out a review for a pair shoes and the process.  I went with a pair of captoe full brogue oxfords in their ‘Essential Brown’.  The measurement process is straightforward, but does take a bit more effort than other services - they have you print out a diagram where you trace both feet and then you have to scan it on a computer to email the pattern to them.  This could be a pain for some, but honestly any extra step to make the best fit possible should always be welcome especially when you’re doing online MTM.  I didn’t find this to be a problem, and it probably was for the best.
There was a small mix-up in the development of my shoes, which delayed the arrival a few weeks, but it was welcome because they notified me and made sure I received what I ordered.  Customer service: A.
Upon arrival, they were packed neatly and covered in dust bags.  The brogue detail was nice, the construction was solid, color was a tad lighter than I was expecting (but nothing a little shoe creme can’t darken up), the leather was decent, and the fit was spot on.  I went with a blue lining on the inside for a little ‘pizzazz’ and its very subtle - which is nice.  I appreciated the way the initials were branded on the bottom of the shoe - ah, the little things.
To be picky, the leather wasn’t as soft as I expected, but not cheap by any means.  I definitely see it loosening up over a few wears, and think its just matter of breaking them in.  Another small point would be to stick with a waxed shoelace, although these aren’t too bad and an easy change.
Overall, very happy with the outcome of the shoe and the process.  Mantorii has solid options when it comes to customizations and the measurement process is a bit more thorough for the better of the customer.  These will definitely be seeing a lot of play, and they are happy welcome to the rotation.
I’d like to thank the people over at Mantorii for sending me out a pair and to keep up the great work!

Did you know that all our shoe soles are made of durable, high quality leather? A lot of work goes into making them and most steps are traditionally done by hand. It needs a trained person to cut the hard leather and file the edges to give our soles a clean and elegant look.

Yes we are! Sorry It took us a while to get back to you. To answer your previous questions, our leather is full grain leather imported from the US and dyed to our specifications in Vietnam. We would say it does compare very well!

On remakes, refunds and how we handle it.
We are currently dealing with a disgruntled customer and we wanted to take the chance to elaborate on the topic at hand publicly (without naming him, of course).
As you all know, sometimes things don't always go as planned. It can happen (luckily not very often) that a shoe does not fit and it cannot be fixed by a cobbler. We are listening to our customers and we believe we are quick to implement feedback, it is in our utmost interest to avoid fit issues.
However, sometimes mistakes happen. That's where our remake policy comes into play. You send the shoes back to us and we do a free remake based on your feedback. The costs of sending the shoes back to us are not covered by Mantorii. What we do is to issue a coupon worth max. $40 for a possible future purchase. It does not matter who made a mistake and honestly, it is very difficult to find out and we don't want to start blaming customer for measuring the wrong way. Ordering a custom shoe is simply not like ordering a standard shoe size, mistakes can happen and we are sorry for each and every pair we don't get right on the first try.
If you decide Mantorii is not for you and you don't want us to do a remake, we will refund you. Again, you just need to return the shoes to us.
We believe this is a fair policy and there is a reason why we are doing it like that.
Why we can't provide free returns: We are a small company and we are 100% privately funded. There is no big investor behind us, prepared to finance a growth strategy and accepting losses for years to come. We are committed to making our customers satisfied, but we also have to make sure that we can run our company in a sustainable way. We sell at very low prices for the quality and service we provide - we pass on all cost advantages to our customers. We don't have a lot of employees, no big inventory, no brick-and-mortar stores, so we can do things a bit cheaper than huge companies. Our aim is to provide custom shoes at a great price to everyone.
As a result, we simply cannot afford to pay for returns at the moment. We have also made sure to do our research and we find that a vast majority of online made-to-measure companies have adapted the same policy. Of course, we could simply raise prices, but we don't believe this to be the right strategy.
As usual, we are happy to hear your feedback on this topic and encourage you to either post a comment or write us on [email protected].
