I would say that the hand drawings gave myself warmer feeling like a gathering. The digital drawings are more like a plan for someone else.

After the feedback

I really agree with some ideas from tutorial and critiques, including the new arrangement and the drawing mediums. But I was not confident to redraw all the drawings in such a short time for the new arrangement, which need to change on all the aerial views and section plans. To make the projects perfect, I decided to start the redraw.

Moreover, the last point from Carl really waked me up. He asked me that what’s your question to yourself? I kept thinking about this for a while.

“Not just the practical and detail things of the design. I want you to think about your questions to yourself. ” he replied me.

My question might be that

1. I didn’t create a new food event, but just bring a culture from my country into my design. Does it count a design?

2. For an international student, we are the minority in this country. So I always think our culture is unique so I put them in my design. But what if I’m designing those in my own country, are they still unique?

3. Dose all the design need to be unique? Does the market needs the normal and not outstanding design?

To be a designer, those questions keep popping up in my mind.

The arrangements should change, cause part of the people couldn’t see the screen

Carl suggest that the table in two place could put together like reflection of mirror.

The hand drawings bring more feelings and atmosphere than the digital drawings.

Think about your own questions to yourself, not just hear from others’ suggestions.

The food tray cart is design not only for placing food materials as display but also for trading stuffs in and out of the house. The front is a display area for taking nice photos to put on social media. The back is for putting rubbish and stuffs.

For the convenience of outdoor barbecue, I wish to have a chair with a place to put the drinks and phone.

The chair is designed lower than the normal chairs, in order to fit the barbecue grill which is put on the floor.

The breakout of COVID-19 caused lots of families who are not able to get reunion in the hometown. Thanks to the technology, we are able to use it to enhance our relationships.

I would like to held a FaceTime call for my family members in Taiwan and my friends in my current home, New Zealand to have a barbecue event.

My close family members includes my dad, my mom, my twin sister, and my younger sister.

My friends in my current home includes my 6 housemates who are my close friends who likes to share the foods with each other.

To see the full moon together, our barbecue event would be held at 6pm Taiwan time, 10 pm New Zealand time on 21 September, which is 15 August in Lunar calendar.

Comparison between traditional&new barbecue grill

In Taiwan, every household has easy barbecue Gill like this, which need to be fired by charcoal. It’s not recommended to use it in the house than in the yard.

The electric barbecue grill is easier to use at home, charcoal and tinder is not necessary. However, we couldn’t use this if we want to have barbecue outdoor without socket.

Part three-Food Event

Research

Moon Festival which is called mid-autumn festival is an important event in Chinese culture, my hometown, Taiwan is included.

Custom would be different from place to place. In Taiwan, you can see people are having barbecue in front of every household, river side, or under the bridge on the moon festival. This is an event for families and friends to get reunion.

* In Mandarin, “tuan yuan (團圓）”means “reunion”, which is the same pronounce as “yue yuan (月圓)”, “full moon”.

So families get reunion on moon festival which is on 15 August Lunar calendar, the biggest moon of the year.

4. BAKE IT !! For 50 minutes with 190 degree, and 10 more minutes with 210 degree.

Recipe inspiration

When I think of Portugal I think of beautiful tiles (azulejo), which is decorating in church, subways and regular homes.

So I pick the color from the tile to make the font for my recipe.

I think the hand writing font might be fit to the hand drawing egg tart, which are all drew by the iPad app, procreate.
