he did also do an article with collider where he says he doesn’t view it as a romantic relationship personally but that he likes the fan reaction. he said they were very clear in the writer’s room that there would be no discussions as to whether or not it was romantic, which I personally take to mean that they were explicitly trying to keep the dynamic ambiguous. they didn’t want to cheapen the narrative message or lessen its application to the other characters as well by having a romantic connection here, but I think the writers are very much gauging audience reactions to take their dynamic down whatever path the fans respond most to
