Young royals fanfic recommendations!

Hi there! I decided to put together a list of my favorit YR fics on AO3. m. Some are short one-shots, some are long multi-chaptered. Most of them are sweet, some angsty, some are sassy, and a few of them funny (would like to have more of that). Mos of them are in English, but some in Swedish. There are so many incredibly talent authors and so many amazing stories, so in the end I decided to pick one story per author. There are two exceptions though - for two Swedish authors @harosia and @eypril-eypril. I have picked one in English and one in Swedish each for them, because their stories are extraordinary and there is something special about reading and writing in the home language of YR (and especially if they take place in Stockholm).

Summary: Five months after the sex tape scandal, the Hillerska rowing team is going on an away trip for the Nationals. When they get to their hotel, it turns out there’s been a mix-up with the rooms and Simon didn’t get assigned a room. Despite things still being awkward between them, Wilhelm offers that Simon stay in his room with him.

This is a truly unique fic, with a war going on i Sweden. Wille, Simon, and Erik battle with finding their roles.

Summary: “He wishes for a time machine to turn back the clock, back to a world where his mother wasn’t on the end of the phone, saying grimly, “Wilhelm, you need to come home. It’s starting.”” Two months after Wille’s arrival at Hillerska, war breaks out. When his and Erik’s last-ditch attempt to leave the country goes badly wrong, he ends up stuck in Bjarstad - with Simon.

Summary: Wilhelm thought his biggest problem was the fact that he sucks at his royal duties. Turns out it’s actually his new secretary.

Summary: Simon bor i en studentlägenhet och går mer eller minde igenom sin allra första måttliga livskris. Han jobbar och pluggar för mycket, och sover för lite. Alla dagar ser mer eller mindre precis likadana ut i sin pissiga enkelhet. Summary : Någonstans halvvägs mellan fotbollsplanen och hans säng är det plötsligt inte kul längre. Inte för att det någonsin egentligen var kul, men Wilhelm vet inte riktigt var gränsen mellan att spela upp en charad av att vara kul inför någon annan och den genuina känslan går.

Summary: In the last weeks before Christmas, Henry learns a few things he isn’t meant to know, makes up with Simon, and gets caught between conflicting loyalties. In the spring, those lessons bring unexpected outcomes for him and his friends, old and new. Retelling and expansion of the story from the night of the Society party onward, including both Henry and Wilmon stuff.

Summary: It’s a small enough act of defiance, Wilhelm thinks. Undoubtedly, it will still land him on the covers of all sorts of tabloids around the country, and maybe even the world— but it’s something he’s doing for himself, something that won’t do much harm and still gives him the feeling of being in control to a small degree, if nothing else.

or, Wilhelm lets Simon paint his nails, and it marks not only another change in their relationship, but also a small step to Wilhelm being himself in the public eye.

Summary: It is nearing 20°C outside, which is a bit too hot to be wearing a suit, in Simon’s opinion. They knew it was a risk, getting married in the late spring, but there wasn’t much he could do about it. His idea of a mid-season wedding, earlier in spring, didn’t prevail against the Very Important, Very Traditional, and Very Royal Wedding Day of 19th of June, so here they are.

Or: You are cordially invited to the Royal Wedding of Their Royal Fucking Highnesses, and they sort of really want your presence there to stick it to the homophobes.

Summary: They have a nice thing going on, ever since school resumed in the new year. Wilhelm had gone up to Simon in the middle of the corridor on the first day back, held his hand in front of everyone, and it all went from there. Simon doesn’t want to be a secret, so Wilhelm bites down on his anxiety and just lets things happen, onlookers or not. He is terrible at keeping secrets anyway.

Summary: Everybody was staring at Crown Prince Wilhelm. Wille hated every second of it. “Pass on the traditions to the next generation.” This is wrong.

Summary: “I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before,” Simon says to the man. “Yeah?” Simon nods. “May I have a proper introduction?” The man extends his right hand. “Wilhelm.” Simon takes it. “Nice to meet you,” he says, letting go. “Wilhelm. Like the prince?” Wilhelm nods. “Yeah, kinda.”

Summary: If he was going to be stuck at Hillerska Boarding School for three years, he was going to do whatever he had to make that time bearable. And that started with making friends on his own terms. So, with not a small amount of anxiousness, Wille clicked Accept. Wille and Simon meet over a messaging app.

Summary: International music sensation Simon Eriksson lands in New York to sing at a charity event organised by Prince Henry. At nearly the same time Prince Wilhelm of Sweden lands in New York to support his second cousins charity event. What could possibly go wrong?

A meeting of two exes, a second chance and lots of chaos - frankly where Alex and Simon are there must be chaos.

Summary: “Hey, next time try to come before we close. I’ve got places to be you know”. When the boy turns around and makes eye contact for the first time, brown eyes wide and apologetic as he splutters out an apology, Simon realizes that he’d just told off the youngest prince of Sweden.

Or Simon works at the local corner shop. Wille is that annoying customer that stumbles in just as he’s about to close, much to Simon’s dismay. For some reason the prince keeps coming back.

Summary: For Simon, shaking his head at the antics of the twenty-seven-year-old Crown Prince is as familiar a gesture as is kissing him, and he does both now. Pulling back, he smirks. “You’re so cute when you’re excited.”

“And you, husband,” says Wilhelm a bit breathlessly, a hand on Simon’s hip, “are cute all the time.” Simon and Wilhelm are married and adorable send tweet.

Also known as: after the video is leaked to the public, Wilhelm calls his cousin Prince Henry of Wales for help. Henry and Alex proceed to drop everything for a trip to Sweden to rescue him. After all, Europe’s gay princes need to stick together.

Summary: ‘The only spare bed I currently have in Forest Ridge is in the Crown Prince’s room, so it would cause the least disruption if you were to move in there.’

When everyone returns to school after Christmas, life is disrupted by a global pandemic. Particularly for Simon, who is forced to become a boarder and share a room with the one person he’s trying to avoid.

Or: Simon comes to term with the fact that Wilhelm has a responsibility bigger than himself, but, maybe, not in the way he thinks.
