Another take on the TF2 Clone Theory:

Continuation to this.

When I was talking to people about the clone theory, they were always asking me about who were originals and who were clones. I didn't understand why that matters; they're all same people with the same memories of their pre-service past, right?

What I didn't understand is that people had entirely different take on how clones are made than I do. I've never even thought about the fetus tubes until someone specifically pointed out that scene in Emesis Blue... (I also didn't know cloning was a real life thing?? Not just sci-fi trope??)

So yeah I've always thought cloning was instant because it would also explain how respawn works. Classic "resurrection" either isn't the thing (lame) or just takes too much time to commit. However, the super cool very scientific respawn machine will use your remains + storage bio supply to quickly rebuild a new body (as it was at the assigning day) and put your consciousness into that body so you feel like you're living nonstop.

(at least that's the theory)

Also, to answer these questions:

They do remember their connections, their past and their memories. Memories of the past are the same.

Their families were not cloned, they aren't involved in this business in any way. They don't know.

However, to keep this secret from the mercs... Of course if both of the clones will speak to their families they will soon spot some weird things and inconsistencies (talking about things that seemed to never happen). Not even talking about visiting family on holidays, that's an obvious no-no.

So... First of all, a big deal is to make REDs and BLUs lives and experiences here as similar (ideally identical) as possible.

And second: I think their connection to the world is just very limited/prohibited. The telephone connection is entirely controlled by the Administration (Sniper has to drive far away to sneak talk to his parents). Letters are monitored, censored and withhold if necessary (or copied if they are FROM the family). No going home until the contract is due (many years??) etc...

Which contradicts comics in s lot of ways but you know what? I don't even care. Comics are an unreliable narrator anyways. I mean uh... I uh. I'll talk about it some other time.

Tf2 infección moutruosa

El desierto alrededor de Teufort parecía un cadáver seco. Los arbustos rodadores cruzaban perezosamente el camino mientras el viento levantaba pequeñas nubes de polvo que se aferraban al aire como un recuerdo del caos que una vez reinó allí. Trapper caminaba con pasos pesados, con el mosquete descansando sobre su hombro.

"Carajo, todo este maldito lugar huele a muerte y abandono," masculló mientras escupía al suelo. "Si me sale un coyote con tres cabezas, juro que me regreso al puto barco."

La Administradora había sido concisa en sus órdenes: "Encuentra a los mercenarios. Descubre qué pasó." Pero claro, había dejado fuera los detalles importantes, como la parte de que probablemente fueran monstruos ahora.

"Claro que no lo dijo. Esa vieja nunca dice una mierda completa. 'Oh, Trapper, haz esto, haz aquello'. Y aquí estoy, caminando por un puto horno por... ¿por qué? ¡Por Engie! Porque soy un sentimental y, según parece, un idiota."

El sol empezaba a ocultarse, y Trapper llegó a lo que alguna vez fue un pequeño campamento RED en las afueras de la ciudad. Las lonas estaban desgarradas, las torretas desmanteladas, y el suelo estaba manchado con algo que no era aceite.

"Bueno, esto grita 'escóndete antes de morir,' pero supongo que nunca fui muy bueno escuchando consejos." Descolgó su mosquete, inspeccionando el área.

Un ruido, como un jadeo bajo, rompió el silencio. Trapper giró en seco. "¿Quién anda ahí? ¡Si eres Scout y esto es una broma, te juro que te meto una bala en el culo!"

Nada. Solo el eco del viento.

"Claro, porque las cosas nunca son tan fáciles." Sacó una de sus pistolas perforadoras, inspeccionando cada rincón del campamento. "Si esto es un monstruo, al menos ten la decencia de salir de frente. Vamos, dame algo interesante."

De repente, algo se movió. Una figura alta y delgada se deslizó entre las sombras, demasiado rápido para ser humano.

"Ah, mierda. Eso no era Scout. Ni siquiera era humano." Trapper apuntó con su mosquete, pero no disparó.

La figura emergió lentamente, y la luz del atardecer reveló un rostro que alguna vez fue familiar. Spy. O lo que quedaba de él. Su traje estaba desgarrado, y su rostro, ahora una máscara retorcida de carne, mantenía una mirada depredadora.

"Bueno, bueno, si no es el hombre con más secretos del equipo," dijo Trapper, con una sonrisa forzada. "Déjame adivinar: te saltaste el desayuno y ahora tienes hambre, ¿eh?"

Spy no respondió. En cambio, un clon surgió de su sombra, un doble vacío y carente de vida, que avanzaba con movimientos espasmódicos.

"¡Oh, vamos! ¡Eso es trampa!" Trapper disparó con el mosquete, destrozando al clon, pero este se disolvió en una niebla oscura que regresó al cuerpo principal.

"Ah, genial. ¿Qué sigue, magia negra? ¡Dame un respiro!" Trapper retrocedió, sacando ambas pistolas. Disparó varias veces, pero Spy parecía moverse como el humo, esquivando cada bala con una facilidad antinatural.

"Está bien, cabrón, ¿quieres bailar? Vamos a bailar." Trapper guardó una pistola y sacó su navaja suiza, lanzándose hacia Spy. Pero antes de alcanzarlo, el monstruo desapareció en las sombras.

"¡Eh! ¡No me jodas con tus trucos de mierda! ¡Vuelve aquí!" Su voz resonó en el desierto, pero lo único que respondió fue el eco.

Trapper respiró hondo, pasando una mano por su rostro sudoroso. "Perfecto. Ahora también tengo que jugar a las escondidas. Por supuesto, porque mi vida no podía ser más jodida."

Miró al horizonte, donde la tenue luz del atardecer marcaba el inicio de una noche larga.

"Espero que estés vivo, Engie. Porque si no, te voy a resucitar solo para partirte la madre."

Y con eso, avanzó hacia la ciudad, el mosquete en una mano y una actitud más amarga que el café de la Administradora.

Teufort había cambiado, pero no de la manera que Trapper había esperado. La ciudad no solo estaba en ruinas; era como si la propia esencia de la ciudad hubiera sido arrancada, dejando un vacío oscuro en su lugar. La niebla espesa y gris lo envolvía, y el aire tenía una calidad densa, como si respirara lo mismo que el alma de la ciudad. No se trataba de un simple desastre natural o de la guerra que alguna vez la había azotado. Algo peor, más insidioso, estaba ocurriendo. Algo que no se veía, pero que podía sentirse en cada rincón, en cada paso que daba.

Lo único que Trapper deseaba al regresar era encontrar a Engineer. Pero, a medida que recorría las calles, se dio cuenta de que la ciudad parecía no querer que lo encontrara. Las rutas familiares se desvanecían ante sus ojos, las esquinas ya no tenían el mismo sentido. A veces, creía ver figuras de su pasado, rostros conocidos como los de Spy, Sniper y Medic, pero al acercarse, solo quedaban sombras, como si fueran manifestaciones de una memoria distorsionada. La ciudad misma estaba desmoronándose, y con ella, todo lo que alguna vez había sido real.
