rhaegar is so narratively rich though. I mean, for starters, the day he was literally born was the day summerhall exploded. not any random sad event! summerhall! sorcery, grief for all his line, the tragic ending of the dunk and egg’s tale of friendship! the failure of the philosopher king narrative! all of that, just for his backstory. then, on top of that, he grew up to be hot, in a specifically romantic hero way. he just did that. he became super hot in the most protagonist syndrome, epic literature way. and decided to spend entire weekends in the ruins of the haunted castle, singing and writing songs for the prophetess bestie of his weird commoner great aunt… high in the halls of the kings who were gone jenny would dance with her ghosts… I see you projecting your issues on your relative there rhaegar. little keats guy. and THEN, because all that melancholy juice wasn’t enough, he started kidnapping teenagers to fulfill some qanon agenda because nothing is too insane when you’re on that targ buzz… only to die in the most poetic way available because at this point, of course it’s going to be ambivalent, there’s just too much there

Chapters of A Song of Ice & Fire - A Feast for Crows - The Reaver      The Drowned God had not shaped Victarion Greyjoy to fight with words at kingsmoots, nor struggle against furtive sneaking foes in endless bogs. This was why he had been put on earth; to stand steel-clad with an axe red and dripping in his hand, dealing death with every blow.

so a lot of what is widely accepted as sansa’s primary traits/flaws (deadly sins, according to some) ie her naïvité and sense of entitlement is actually her strong sense of duty talkin’… like she’s been raised knowing she’ll one day marry some rich dude and fulfill the role of lady and in agot she takes on this role with enthusiasm and skill … she acts exactly like she is supposed to act and have been trained by westerosi society to act and society! still! punishes! her! she does her absolute best and tries her absolute hardest to fit in the system and the system still abuses her …………………………………….. maybe that’s ………. like …………. not about her being a bitch per se????? but more about????????? her being told from a very young age that if you do your job and act nice, others will too????? and that that, tragically, is not the case is???? GASP dare I say it - perhaps not a traumatised twelve-year-olds fault?

Anime is great. Anime will be like “this is my character of ambiguous western descent. Their name is the most incomprehensible combination of made up sounds. And if not that, it is a name that has not appeared on a single birth certificate since 1773.
Code Geass went and said “most of these character hail from Future Sort-of-Britain, including our main character, who will be named Lelouch just like every single British person isn’t.” Then they decided to distract you from this by naming his love interest Shirley, cornering the market of 80+ year old grandmothers clutching their 3 bowls of strawberry sucker candy in delight. Code Geass didn’t even call it a day here they had one more trick up their sleeve and it was to name the third character in the group Rivalz, a name and a character which appeal to exactly no one.
Tiger and Bunny said “What should our western young-20′s heartthrob successful pretty-boy deuteragonist be named? What screams ‘young’ and ‘trendy’ and ‘brilliant’ and ‘sexy’? Barnaby. Barnaby Brooks. This is our Sex Symbol Barnaby.” I bet a bunch of ghosts from the 17th century were stoked about that one. I bet Barnaby walks into gift shops asking if they have any of the travel keychains in his name and he gets laughed out of the store. I bet Barnaby’s parents didn’t die, they just faked their deaths to get away from him seeing as they hated him enough to name him Barnaby.
I haven’t followed Attack on Titan in 7 years but yall have a character named Pieck Finger. That’s it that’s my roast.

A painting of Nell Bolton from @dwellordream‘s very well written fic I lack the patience to haunt/instead I hunt, a massive gothic fantasy featuring all the animal sacrifice, reanimated husbands, Ladies with Swords, and ice spiders you could ever want.
@dwellordream is both talented and consistent, and if you’re into asoiaf you should read her work.

would love to hear your thoughts on arthur! im facinated with both him and ashara because of the way ppl treat them in the story and love to hear other peoples thoughts on them
ok so basically i really like it when characters end up being different than their reputation, especially when they’re so mythologized like arthur dayne. he’s seen as like, a paragon of knighthood and honor and chivalry but when he was alive he was just.... a guy. and had personality quirks and flaws like everyone does. i personally like the idea that he was kind of a weirdo and struggled with his vows too and also enjoyed the killing part of being a knight a little more than you’d expect. like that sandor quote about how knights are for killing-- even if he’s lauded as a super honorable guy the fact remains that he was like, really fucking good at killing people and also part of the kingsguard which is for following orders and doing what you’re told. also his fight with the smiling knight, the way they fought so hard that the smiling knight’s sword got too chipped to use and arthur stopped and let him get another, and then when the smiling knight was like “it’s YOUR sword i want” arthur was like “well here u go” and killed him.... jaime thinks of this as like a chivalric move but i like to interpret it as arthur kind of.... idk, it seems like he’s almost playing a game which i find interesting. and this isn’t even touching on his whole thing with the tower of joy. idk, i don’t think he was a bad person, but “perfect honorable super-knight” is obviously not all he was cause everyone is very complex, and i think it would be dope if he was also weird and liked killing people. i posted a joncon quote earlier about how arthur liked things orderly and neat and i think it would be a cool character trait if he was kind of rigid and nitpicky towards himself in an attempt at self control.... aaah i’ve never read the once and future king but i once saw a post with character notes about lancelot and i feel like a lot of that informed my arthur headcanons (if anyone knows the post im talking abt please send it to me). something something deconstruction of chivalry and knighthood something something i’m not smart
