he blinks once ,  twice ,  staring at soph from the doorway for a moment as though she’d grown a second head ,  before his still half asleep mind  —  having been roused by the smell of smoke  —  catches up and he realizes the date: ꜰᴀᴛʜᴇʀs ᴅᴀʏ.  it looks like an explosion has hit the kitchen  ( how GLITTER plays into food preparation he’s not exactly sure and doesn’t know if he wants to find out )  and he groans the sheer existence of a sesame street tie ,  but any complaint is wholly snuffed out by a four year old barreling into his legs.

he hears what he thinks  is supposed to be  ‘ happy fathers day ’ muffled against his shoulder as he lifts her up for a proper hug ,  and he can’t help the grin that splits his face. 

“ thanks ,  princess.   love you too. ”  

the cleanup and false excitement over a big bird tie can wait.

For years I mastered the art of feeling as minimum possible or feeling nothing at all. Whether it was love or longing or resentment. I had none of it. And now I look at you and I feel way too much. It’s feels like years of emotions have erupted and I have no clue what to do.
