Edward Burne- Jones
One of my very favorite artists, is Edward Burne- Jones. He was an English painter, closely associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement. His paintings are full of amazingness. Such beauty! Burne-Jones's aim in art is best given in some of his own words, written to a friend: “I mean by a picture a beautiful, romantic dream of something that never was, never will be - in a light better than any light that ever shone - in a land no one can define or remember, only desire - and the forms divinely beautiful - and then I wake up, with the waking of Brynhild.”
“Sleeping princess” by Edward Burne- Jones
“The Golden Stairs” by Edward Burne- Jones
“Hope” by Edward Burne- Jones
“Temperantia” by Edward Burne- Jones

Pre- Raphaelites!
Pre- Raphaelites was a group of English painters, poets, and critics, founded in 1848 by William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The three founders were joined by William Michael Rossetti, James Collinson, Frederic George Stephens and Thomas Woolner.
The brotherhood sought a return to the abundant detail, intense colours and complex compositions of Quattrocento Italian art.
The group associated their work with John Ruskin, an English critic whose influences were driven by his religious background.
The group continued to accept the concepts of history painting and mimesis, imitation of nature, as central to the purpose of art.
What draws me to Pre Raphaelites, are the details of the paintings and rich colors that they use. The beauty of Pre- Raphaelites is immense. I can never get tired of looking at that gorgeous art.
My favorite Pre- Raphaelite artists are Edward Burne- Jones, Evelyn De Morgan and John Melhuish Strudwick but they are all wonderful!
Which Pre- Raphaelite artists are your favorites?
“The Wedding of Psyche” by Edward Burne-Jones
“Angel Of Death” by Evelyn De Morgan
“Acrasia” by John Melhuish Strudwick
