A Moment Stolen
Just imagine with me, Eliot wakes up to an empty hospital room— almost empty. Margo was at the vending machine getting something to eat. Penny and Alice went back to the apartment to check on Julia. Eliot’s hospital room is empty— almost empty.
Quentin is slouched down in one of those uncomfortable chairs with the plastic arms, his chin resting against his chest. Eliot feels like shit, his body screams in protest when he sits up but he needs to get a better look.
“Q?” He tries to say, but his voice cracks, as if the monster hadn’t really even used his voice these last months and his voice box was covered in cobwebs.
Quentin doesn’t move. He tries again.
“Q?”
Quentin starts a little, then wakes up and rubs his eyes. When he sees Eliot awake he jolts out of his seat.
Quentin fusses over him, doesn’t let him get a word in edgewise. Brings in the doctor to check Eliot over and then Margo is there and they’re all in the bed with Eliot and he’s surrounded by his friends and everything is over but he can’t help thinking that he’s forgetting something. Something important. Something he had to do.
Margo falls asleep against his shoulder at some point but Quentin is still awake on Eliot’s other side. His hand is resting over Eliot’s heart and for some reason it’s not weird, like all the distance he had put between them after the mosaic and his rejection had just melted away.
And Eliot remembers. He was supposed to be brave.
Quentin tilts his head up to say something and Eliot listens, something about the mission and the library and something or other, but this was the moment. It had to be.
“Quentin,” he says, interrupting. He hates interrupting Quentin, but only has so much bravery in his broken body. “I have to tell you something.”
Quentin stops. “Hmm?” He asks.
Eliot clicks his tongue against his teeth, suddenly nervous, and then suddenly and incredibly not nervous.
“Funny thing is,” he says. “I think I’m in love with you.”
Quentin’s brow furrows and Eliot’s heart sinks because this is it, this is when he gets his heart broken, when he gets a taste of his own medicine—
Q sets his head back on Eliot’s shoulder, taking his hand and lacing their fingers together. Huh, funny behavior for someone about to break his heart.
“That’s really fucking convenient,” Quentin says. “Because I’m in love with you.”
Eliot closes his eyes. Exhales. He buries his face against Quentin’s hair and kisses his head. He has the love of his life on one side and his best friend on the other.
“That’s good,” he says, breathless, heart beating. Alive. “Really, fucking, good.”
He gets to be ok now.

The Spark, by elliex

"The sounds of early morning roused Quentin to the edge of consciousness – just enough that he was aware of the small body cuddled next to him, and of the long arm stretched over them both."

(i'm) coming back to you
by rizcriz
Quentin stops just outside the archway, and looks down at the metro card in his hand. He mattered to them. It’s okay. They’ll be okay. He just needs to–to walk through the door.
But.
“Something wrong?”
He blinks down at the card, turning it over in his palm, and quietly says to it, “You never did answer my question.” He looks up from the card, and twists around to turn his gaze at Penny. His hands are tucked in his pockets, and he seems mostly surprised that Quentin hasn’t gone through the door yet. “Did I? Kill myself?”
Penny stares at him for a long moment before taking a half step towards him and rolling his shoulders. “Does it matter?”
That’s the question, isn’t it? His friends were mourning him–he mattered to them. His life wasn’t this meaningless disaster he’d always thought it was. And for once, his brain isn’t compounded by countless thoughts of ‘what if I–’s. For once in his entire life, it’s all just silent, and it shouldn’t matter how it happened. He should just turn, and step through the door and–
“Yes.”

“Q, darling, if you truly love me, you’ll get the hell out of my kitchen.”
Quentin rolls his eyes, immune as ever to Eliot’s complaining, and continues slicing cheese right onto the counter with entirely the wrong sort of knife.
“I’m serious,” Eliot plunges on. “You even being in here will make things burn. I still haven’t decided whether I think someone put a particularly inventive curse on you or whether you’re just that tragic, but I will not let you ruin this dinner.”

Alice and Quentin get the spell they need from Brakebills South, and the gang gets together to defeat both monster-gods and Everett. Everyone is fucked in their own ways, plans go sideways, like always, but if there’s one thing this ragtag team can do, it’s come together at the last minute and improvise.

3 Alternate Universe Fics
Bring Back What Once Was Mine: Quentin uses the clock tree in Fillory to travel back in time, intending not to tell Eliot that he wants to try a relationship with him in the hopes that Eliot will leave him in Blackspire. Only problem is that Eliot was dragged back through time as well. Currently a one-shot, but I'm considering expanding it to another fic about what happens when Q and El know the consequences of Blackspire and the Monster. Queliot.
From the Ashes: Post 4x13. Eliot rouses the coven on a mission to bring Quentin back from the dead. Everyone pitches in, even those who can't cast. Acknowledges both Queliot and Qualice with Alice and Eliot supporting each other in the process to get Quentin back.
Simply Not That Simple: Post 4x13. Quentin confronts himself and the contradictions of 'truth' after stepping through the door. He realizes he can still make a choice.
(i hope these are acceptable / that this is an acceptable way to submit them! i'll be back with more AUs)

Penny Adiyodi has never done what Quentin Coldwater says a day in his life, in this timeline or otherwise. And now? In a situation as catastrophic as this one? This is when he’s supposed to start taking advice from a self destructive super nerd?
Yeah, fuck that, actually.
So Penny acts on instinct. He reaches out for Quentin and he travels.

“the ‘bring Q back’ team” or how the s4 should’ve ended.
“you didn’t just save their lives — you changed their lives, as much as they changed yours.” said our Penny, looking at crying Quentin, “damnit, Coldwater, are you seriously thinking they’ll just give up? just will go through grief and deal with your death? you don’t listen to me at all” said Penny with a piece of annoyance, but Q still doesn’t get it.
“look at them — they don’t know yet, but you look at the “bring Q back” team. you’re so lucky because of the members of the team:
the smartest girl you’ve ever met
the shattered boy who truly loves you
the girl who became our lady of the tree
the girl who became a high king
the broken girl who’ve started a revolution
and the lost between universes boy
they’re not only a team — they’re your family. they’d break the doors and undermine other universes just to find you. fuck, Quentin, they’d burn the whole underworld down until they could dig you out of the ashes because that’s what a family does.
just to bring you home.
i promise.”

Quod Erat Demonstrandum
[5k][ao3][a s4 q/eliot spec fic][*:・゚✧*:・゚✧][teen & up]
The last organ that the Monster is missing, he says, was given to Persephone’s son, the Fox.
“Find him,” the Monster says, before disappearing.
Julia lets out the breath she’s holding, and closes her eyes.
“Well fuck.”
They have a plan, but it’s not a good one. It’s never, really, a good plan, and killing gods hasn’t exactly gone well for them in the past. Julia can barely stand, but she and Quentin set out the organs like the instructions depict. The actual ritual is simple: the Monster activates all of his organs, and then transfers himself from his current host into them. Once he’s possessed his own parts, his magic will do the rest of the body-building. They estimate that they’ll have a few seconds for Julia to set off a spell that only she can do. The only catch? She still hasn’t been able to cast a single spell. All it will take is a little nudge though….
The Monster leers at Quentin as Julia and Penny put the last organs into place.
“You think you did all this just for Eliot, I know, but you really did it for me. You will see he is not fun.”
As the Monster leaves Eliot’s body in a cloud of golden sparkles, Eliot’s body twists unnaturally and falls hard to the ground. Quentin rushes over to where Eliot is lying on the ground, gathering it up in his arms. There’s a pulse, and Eliot’s body is breathing (if shallowly). Quentin’s entire focus is on Eliot dying in his arms, and he doesn’t see the Monster reform his new body, he doesn’t look up until he hears Julia cursing as the Monster gets away.
“This was not fun let’s not ever do it again.”
Julia collapses on the ground next to Quentin and Penny is there to support her. Quentin looks back at Eliot, and all the grief he’s been holding in since he stopped being Brian, since the Monster lied about Eliot’s death, since Eliot had gotten through, it all comes to the surface.
“No no no Eliot where are you? I know you’re alive in there, you told me so. C’mon.” Quentin presses his forehead against Eliot’s and in a voice so thin it almost cracks, says, “I need you back, okay?”

hmm im gonna confess my own happy little fantasy right now ready? okay, good
Sure , okay. I hate it, but Quentin dies, and meets Penny 40 in the underworld, and they do the Secrets to the Grave thing. Whatever. It’s bullshit. Penny takes him to the campfire, and Quentin sees his friends mourning him. A catastrophic wave of emotions watches over Quentin and he feels like he can’t breathe, which is weird, as a dead man.
He knows this is the moment he’s supposed to be grateful, watching how deeply everyone is mourning him. He’s sure not everyone gets this perk, but he happens to have an in with an Underworld employee. He knows this is supposed to give him the peace he needs to move on. But he stops, shakes his head, and turns to Penny.
“I’m not ready,” Quentin says.
Penny raises his eyebrows. “What?”
“These people love me. And I love them.” He turns back to his friends, sees Margo and Kady and Alice and Julia, poor Julia, his best friend, barely holding it together. He sees Eliot, his Eliot, alive and well and Quentin wants nothing more to grab him by his vest and pull him close. To hold him and cry into his shoulder and confess his love all over again. To say he’s sorry for leaving him all over again. To swear to never leave him again as long as he lives.
“Quentin?” Penny asks. Quentin makes up his mind. He’s never been so sure of anything in his after life.
“I’ve got more fight in me. This is not how my story ends.” He watches all of his friends throw his memory in the fire, singing this stupid fucking song, and looks at Penny.
“I want to live.”
Penny smiles at him, and claps his hand on Quentin’s shoulder. “There’s the nerd I know,” Quentin’s eyebrows shoot into his hairline and his mouth opens but before he can say anything, Penny continues. “I’m not technically allowed to do this, but I’ll make an exception for an old friend,” Quentin chokes back a sob. Penny hugs him, and then shakes his hand. “I better not see you for another few decades, Coldwater,”
Quentin blinks, and Penny’s gone. Quentin isn’t sure that it actually worked and that he’s actually back but he can smell the fire and feel the wind. He turns back to his friends, who are so caught up in their singing (why did it have to be this stupid song) and staring so dramatically into the fire that they don’t look at him, if he’s even there at all. Quentin holds his breath. He watches, heart crushing into his chest, as Eliot pulls out a peach. Eliot kisses the peach and throws it into the fire and Quentin knows this is the moment.
“Peaches and plums, motherfucker.” Quentin says, loud and clear.
Eliot’s head snaps towards him, eyes wide. Everyone stops singing, and Quentin can feel them holding their breath, can feel all of their eyes on him, unsure if he’s really there. But Quentin isn’t looking at them. He’s staring dead in the eyes of Eliot, his lifetime love, his soul mate, his plum. Quentin smiles.
“I’m alive out here,”
That’s how it happened, right?
