I love how wildly dark some kids media is
Especially my dearly beloved American Girl Dolls, some of whom have trauma worthy of the most pathetic Little Guy™️ character
Like, this character had to leave behind everything she ever knew or loved, knowing fully well that she could never go back, never would see the family she’s leaving behind ever again. So she embarks on her journey, finding comfort in a friend who shares her grief at leaving their old life behind, but also the same hope for the future. But that friend dies just before reaching their new life, leaving her alone once again in a strange land.
She has to leave the last remnants of her homeland behind. And she still has hope, but so many of the promises of this new land are just not there. And they go back to try and retrieve those keepsakes, months later, and she has to be the one to lead them through the snowstorm, relying on half-remembered directions in the hope of not freezing in the snow before then can get home
She tries to do something kind, help out a little innocent creature. And it goes horribly wrong, ending up destroying the home that they only just are managing to carve out in this new land.
She gets lost in the woods, in the middle of winter, and she and her brother think they’re safe when they find shelter. But not only shelter, they also find the corpse of a neighbor, the first people to learn that he died. So they wait out the storm alongside this old body, one they can’t even properly bury because the ground is frozen, while her brother tries to comfort her with the thought that he was a good soul, so while he may be dead, his ghost is a kind one. And then, in order to try and fix the mistake that destroyed their home, they rob the dead man.
This is the character:

Hitler and the Nazi party took over Germany in 53 days. March 1st marks 41 days of the Trump administration. My hope for March is that the list you’re about to read won’t be the in-real-time evidence of America sliding further into autocracy.
Here we go again…
January 2025
February 2025
March 2025:
Trump has made English the official language of the country [x]
Trump pauses military aid to Ukraine [x]
Trump has imposed new tariffs on China and Canada and they have retaliated [x]
Linda McMahon has been confirmed as Secretary of Education [x]
The Department of Education has set up a witch-hunt for DEI in schools [x]
Trump has delayed his tariffs on the auto industry [x]
Trump suspends tariffs on Mexico [x]
ICE is now targeting migrant families who entered the US with their children [x]
Trump is threatening new tariffs on Canada, including 250% tariffs on dairy products [x]
The Department of Homeland Security is performing polygraph tests on employees [x]
Because of cuts to USAID, Afghan women who fled the Taliban might be forced to return [x]
The Department of Health and Human Services is offering all of their employees a $25,000 buyout [x]
Miscellaneous News:
A federal judge has ruled against another one of Trump’s attempted firings. [x]
Federal workers are fighting back against DOGE cuts [x]
Musk had a closed-door meeting with Republican senators to cement DOGE cuts in law [x]
This post is constantly being updated so if this comes across your dash, check OP’s blog to see the most up-to-date version.
Remember that you have a voice. Remember that Donald Trump and his spineless cronies want you to just give up and accept their control. REMEMBER: NO ONE CAN MAKE YOU FEEL INFERIOR WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT.

I luckily haven't had to deal with much chronic pain or hand pain yet, especially with regards to baking (crochet is another story). That said, these look like some pretty solid tips! There's also some in the comments section.

I love talking to kids about disability bc
1. they often just Get It, and
2. they have 0 concept of disability as a tragedy or something pitiable.
I've watched kids get into an argument with a teacher bc they thought wheelchairs were cool. I told a kid that I can't stand for too long sometimes and they replied, "That's okay, I can't do cartwheels sometimes, but I just do other stuff then. You can sit down with me if you want". Today a girl asked me what the headphones on a classmate's desk were for and I told her that headphones are important for some kids because noises bother them, and she said she wished she had headphones at home, because her baby brothers make a lot of noise and it makes it hard to think. The idea that different people could use tools at different times is intuitive and simple and when accessibility aids are explained neutrally, kids don't see them as bad or unfortunate, they're just things that are useful.
Even mental disability!! In Kindergarten the other day one of the kids asked me why his table partner got stickers when nobody else did. I started off by saying, "Well, when you do your work well, it feels good, right? That's your brain giving you a reward," and the kid just right away went, "Oh, and the stickers are like his reward?" YES! You are 5 and have a better grasp on ADHD than most adults! Kids blow me away every day.

Because it is the anniversary of his death, I wanted to share a small story about my grandfather.
Before I knew that I was intersex, I identified as a trans man. And I went the way any trans man has to go if he wants to transition in my country. My parents thankfully were supportive but I was afraid to tell my grandparents. My grandparents were German and lived/were raised during the third reich. While both of them never said or acted in a way that suggested that they had fascist views (my grandfather was until he died part of a leftwing political party), but there still was this fear in me. "They are old, they grew up surrounded by abhorrent beliefs...". And then there was my aunt. Who would constantly claim that my grandfather was homophobic.
The problem was, back then, there were no openly out gay people in our area, so I never got the chance to see my grandfather interact with someone who was queer. So I just believed her. Because she was so insistent on it. And because it confirmed my fears and my brain loves to be constantly afraid.
But I knew I wanted to come out. I had to, eventually, because I had stopped my estrogen treatment (back then, I did not know that I got that because I was intersex) and went on testosterone instead and first physical changes began to show. We all lived in one big house, so my grandparents would eventually notice.
I was so afraid that my father at some point offered to talk to his parents. I waited outside in the hallway that led to their kitchen and listened.
My father explained, easy to understand, that I was going to transition from female to male because I felt terrible in my body. My grandfather asked, "Is that why the child* is so depressed all this time?" I had been in and out of multiple clinics for manic depression at that point. My father gave a yes. And my grandmother made the incredibly selfish comment, "Can't that wait until I am dead?"
Before I even got time to be upset, my grandfather slammed his fist down on the table. I had never seen or heard him do anything like that before. He was a very calm and collected man who preferred to leave the room before he got too angry. "No, it can't wait. The child gets to get well now. And if that is what is going to help, then it needs to be done."
From that day on, he never used my deadname again or used the wrong pronouns for me. Sometimes, he would stop in a sentence to think and remind himself, but he did always address me correctly.
He celebrated with me when my name was legally changed. He built the bed frame for me and my boyfriend's bed when we moved in together, just like he had built the first adult sized bedframe for me when I outgrew my small bed. He drove my boyfriend to his chemo sessions because my grandfather also had cancer and knew how terrifying it was to go alone.
Did he fully understand what it means to be intersex? To transition? No. But he understood that one of his loved ones was suffering and that he could help to alleviate that pain. And so he did.
He taught me calligraphy. He taught me how to sew. He taught me bookbinding. He gave me many gifts.
But the biggest gift he gave me was, that when someone hated me for what I am, I could stomach it. Because this man was willing to unlearn the bigotry he had been taught for decades so he could love me for who I am.
*in my grandpa's dialect it was normal to refer to children as just 'the child' (genderless)
EDIT
I was blown away by how many people have reblogged this post. I believe my grandfather would be very happy to see that he can give some hope and love to others even now.
I do not want him to stay faceless; so here is a piece of art I made for his obituary, with a slightly altered quote added now.
Dahlias were his favorite flowers. Orange ones especially. They reminded him of the home he had to flee from as a child.

I see a lot of ‘cis’ women say they wish they were androgynous in the way men were or they wish they were pretty in the way men were. This is your sign to go try to do that. You may find you enjoy being an androgynous woman. You may find you no longer identify as a woman. You may find you don’t like androgyny. You will not know until you try. Cut your hair if you’ve always wanted to but have been afraid to. Shop in the men’s section if you’ve been too nervous to. Wear clothing with an androgynous silhouette. Experiment with binding, take baby steps with compression bras if you want. Wear unisex scents. Live life. Try things you want to try. A lot of cis women do not understand the joys of mens pants and mens deodorant. I think everyone should try both of those things.

Computer, show me characters gaining weight as a sign of their improving mental state. Show me characters learning to love their body as they learn to love themselves. Show me characters no longer punishing themselves for something that isn’t their fault. Computer. Computer do you hear me.

Raven headcanons :3
-chipped black nail polish on at all times. She tries so hard to get perfect nail polish but 20 seconds into it drying she finds a way to chop it. Every. Single. Time.
-scoliosis. Her posture sucks and Apple is always trying to fix it ("the evil queen should be vain and arrogant! Stand tall and proud!")
-the Queen family has a long line of anger issues, but Raven is the only one who learned any sort of coping mechanisms for them bcuz once her mother got locked in the mirror prison her dad was free to help her with them
-graysexual + biromantic
-sensory issues w/ sound
-her hands are shaky af. This makes it harder to control her powers, even if she was actually using them for evil. She also desperately wants to do fun and complicated eyeliner, but her hand eye coordination is not good enough for that (hasn't stopped her from trying tho)
