Gonna look into lightning and material shaders in unity soon.
Sorry for the lack of content on the blog, but I feel like I'll post when I get a good chunk of work done! I'm working on the aesthetic of the game, and it's fun to wear the artist hat, but the engineering hat can be wore always to improve things in game engines. I just need to give a proper look on how to make my 2D terrain a little better, then I will move to shaders.

Ready to work on some art, BUT, before, let's appreciate probability.
Yesterday I finished the amount of the stage design document I needed to do some art, and to balance one property of the experience I used again the Probability of union of events! It's so sick, always an useful tool to model the "meaningful choices" situations. 🤯 It works so well it feels like cutting butter with a butter knife, and you know, IT WAS MADE TO CUT BUTTER.

I'm currently quite buisy with studying and, with the end of the first preprototype and the beginning of the new era (putting the game together), there's a lot of design to do. I'm currently writing down a design document where I argue and make choices (what game design is all about in the end), very important choices. After that I will be ready to continue developing.

You're seeing right, I made art content. AGAIN. unbelievable right? I'm currently trying to finish this third preprot. even if the lack of an artist help has slowed me down a bit, it was fun to apply the theme around the elementals into the art of powerups.
I know all of this doesn't make sense overall still, when the prototype is finished there will be a pinned post about the project.

I see what you like, pokèmon trainers... 👀
I studied a little you, pokèmon trainers. I used the lens of "Essential experience" (episode 2 of my podcast IHIHI) and even if it took only a small sample (467 results), I was able to make a survey on what pokèmon players thinks is the essential experience of being a pokèmon trainer. (The choices are based on attributes useful for my game). I had two samples one was of general players, the other of pokèfans. I just made a simple weighted mean between the two samples.
this mean hides the fact that general players sample like a bit more the battle aspect, so the challenge pleasure (episode 4 of my podcast IHIHI^2) than the pokèfan sample. ( 13% vs 8% ) And also that pokèfans like waaaay more than the general players to strengthen the bond with their pokèmon, exactly four times more. (20% vs just 5%), this aspect probably reflect the transmedia power of pokèmon in the lives of pokèfans, that gave themselves more into submission and immersion than challenge.

Narantuya, second iteration.
Since I almost finished the third preprototype, I could work on concept art a little more. This time I tried a second iteration on Narantuya, 🔥🔥🔥 and I can see more of her character this way, and she gives more of that meanie and solitary feel. The emphasis was also in reducing the "stereotypical aspects" that make a female character. Can't wait to include her into the prototype

About my Game design podcast 📻
We're almost at the tenth episode! We've gone throught some of the core ideas of game design from my perspective and since I've still a smaller crowd in my yard, I will pause it at the tenth episode (the special one). Just because I would like to reach more people possible next time, also when I have some practical examples on my Fading Runes. I know that the for the few that see some of the updates it feels still very "faded" 🤡 , also where is the art?? Working on it. I'm thinking about some posts comic-like where I make you know the characters, probably in late july.
