while we're on the subject of my fic writing not reflecting my overall trek interests my first favourite trek character of my childhood was absolutely Geordi, a character I love dearly still but have never really had any fic thoughts about
but then that was probably because I loved Levar Burton from Reading Rainbow.
I'm not sure I really took in anything that was happening in TNG (which I watched before I watched any of TOS, iirc). Like I distinctly recall that I did not grasp that Data wasn't a human being. I was just like oh okay. Yellow eye guy. Got it. He seems different to everyone else but I'm just going to assume that's for no particular reason.
