திருஷ்டி - Drishti !
Drishti just means gaze. It does not mean good or evil.
The “evil eye” is an acquired meaning, which is unfortunate.
Mostly found in new house entrances, behind lorries, shops etc. It is a method of warding off evil eyes and avert undue attention on things that are precious to the owner, but of objects of jealousy for others. The Bommai provides a distraction to people due to its nature (a monster) and colors. It is a tradition and the beliefs have transcended time. 😁
