Padawan braids should be far more decorated I don't care
I want them to have beads and bows and jewels and rings and bells and-

Messaging people for the first time is so hard. What am I supposed to say? Like, "You seem really odd and your blog intrigues me. Do you want to have philosophical conversations or perhaps talk about fictional characters?" What! Whatever. I will just follow you back and stare at your blog with my big beautiful brown eyes.

idk i'm a big fan of the "shen yuan is extremely competent, but not competitive enough to care" idea. every disciple shen yuan au i have involves the peak lord begging him to be the head disciple and hes like "uhhhh idk sounds like a lot of work and also i think ____-shidi would want to be head disciple way more than me...." and even after he refuses to become head disciple he still goes out of his way to help the juniors with their techniques and aids his shizun with sorting his documents because he's just a nice guy.
whenever someone from another peak needs something, its very exhausting for everyone to explain the situation
guy from another peak: i need to speak to the peak lord
students: shizun is off the mountain
him: where's the head disciple
students: we don't have one, you'll want to talk to Shen-shixiong
Him: whos that
students: he's just a guy we like a lot
him: so who does all the [head disciple duties] ???
students: shen shixiong.
him: if he does all the work and you all like him why not just make him head dis-
students: WE TRIED, OKAY!!?!

Shen Jiu: That's it! You're head disciple!
Shen Yuan: I REFUSE!
Shen Jiu: Your refusal doesn't matter
Shen Yuan: This is ridiculous! I don't want to be head disciple! Make Ming Fan be Head Disciple
Shen Jiu: I am the Peak Lord of Qing Jing Peak and it is my decision and my decision alone who is or is not my head disciple and your objections and protestations are irrelevant
Shen Yuan: *quiet and threatening* Fine. I'll be Head Disciple. I'll be the best fucking Head Disciple this peak ever had
Shen Jiu: *also threatening* I look forward to it
Ning Yingying: ...I don't think that's how appointments of head disciples usually go.

I think this whole "Wei Wuxian has low self-worth" take comes from viewing his heroism through a purely modern Western lens, when in reality, it's actually written as a classic example of traditional Chinese heroism, where selflessness, honor, and sacrifice are seen as strengths.
In a lot of modern Western interpretations, people often analyze characters through a psychological lens, connecting their actions to trauma or emotional baggage. While there's no problem with this approach (bc MDZS does actually explore some elements of modern psychological complexity), relying on that alone can miss the bigger cultural picture.
In Wei Wuxian’s case here, his selflessness, which is tied to traditional heroism and a strong moral compass, gets misunderstood as low self-esteem or a reaction to trauma. This misreading reduces his heroic sacrifices to emotional damage, instead of seeing them as intentional, principled choices driven by a strong sense of moral responsibility.
Wei Wuxian’s choices—like protecting the weak, sacrificing his golden core, and standing up for what’s right even at a huge cost etc— are grounded in this type of traditional heroism and NOT simply a byproduct of trauma. In MDZS, sacrifice and selflessness isn’t about self-doubt or a lack of self-worth; it’s about courage and staying true to one’s principles.

i feel like, actually, i know that wei wuxian is definitely the more serious parent between him and lan wangji - not as in personality, but in the way they treat their kids' needs (like studies, personal belongings, etc)
the last word deciding anything to do with their kids is wei wuxian's, he's the one everyone looks when they ask for something because as much as a fake teary eyes works wonders with lan wangji, it doesn't matter because if wei wuxian says no then it's a no
a-yuan: dad, can i go out with my friends this weekend?
lwj: ye- *looks at wwx calmly drinking his gourmet coffee* yes, you can
jingyi: dad, can i have this famous luxury brand's shoes?
lwj: *taking off his phone to buy it* *looks at wwx who's looking at him very seriously over his custom mug* ...no, you can't

I'm loving the fics where Lan Qiren is insistent that LWJ make an honest man out of WWX. It's giving supportive but conservative wine Auntie. Especially if he still doesn't really like WWX. It's got the flavour of:
"Listen to me, young man! That Wei Wuxian is a bitch, a bastard, and a menace! But the one thing he will not be is a harlot or a side piece! Marry him or I will have you copy the rules about relationships until your fingers bleed!"
"I'm so disappointed that I wasn't told about your marriage. Did you really believe I wouldn't want to see it? No, no, I know you are married because my dear nephew, who I love like a son, would never hurt me by living in sin with Wei Wuxian of all people. You wouldn't dare to disgrace him while hurting my heart, so you must be married."

He's insane in a way only a lan can be😂😂
This is so true so many times I've read smthing about Lwj or listened to my friends talk about him and my answer is usually he's a lan what did u expect 😂
My hot take is that Lan wangji was never sexually repressed.
It's easy to say "he's a freak because he spent 13 years longing after Wei wuxian" but let's be real, that had nothing to do with it. From the incense burner extra we know he was thinking of [REDACTED] Wei Ying when they were 15. 15!!!!
Lan wangji wasn't a "pure innocent boy driven to lust after years apart." He was a freak fron DAY ONE. He had his sexual awakening and IMMEDIATELY started daydreaming about holding Wei Ying down and breeding him whether he liked it or not.
He is insane in a way only a Lan can be.

it's not talked about enough, how lan wangji begins mirroring wei wuxian in body after he dies. It's symbolic, I think, and also very beautiful.
See, it's pretty clearly stated that there was no body left of wei wuxian after his death. There was nothing left. Lan Wangji checked. But wei wuxian and him– they were a part of each other. They were mirrors, in sharing the same morality and beliefs. They were a single soul, just in different bodies and expressing their morals in different ways.
And so, Lan Wangji, grieving and so, so alone, becomes Wei Wuxian. He begins to be him in his absence – in his death – because he believed in him and believed the world to be better for his existence and now he was gone. And lan wangji had a responsibility to that, to the vow they took.
The wen brand, exactly where wei wuxian's own was. The whip marks, the same as the ones probably left by zidian on wei wuxian's back. Breaking the rule on drinking, to understand wei wuxian's love for it better.
Keeping pieces of him in private, becoming him in public. Teaching students under his tutelage wei wuxian's techniques. Being bolder, more shameless, more like the man he loved.
Wei Wuxian's body and soul may have been lost forever, but not to Lan Wangji. He who knew wei wuxian better than the back of his own hand. The world may have killed him, but not to Lan Wangji. No, to him, wei ying was always alive, living in him, in a-yuan, in jars of wine and bottles of chili oil, in hidden flowers between pages of books, in the rabbits hopping about, and at the core of the urge to live with no regrets.

This....just this in it's entirety
It was Trauma
Those who write that Resentful Energy is what made Wei Ying angry and bitter before his rebirth dont remember that he used it as Mo Xuanyu and was fine.
What made WY so quick to anger in his first life was a valid reaction to everyone going after him and accusing him for every slight. Also, TRAUMA!!
Like he lost his home, was blamed for the attack, gave his core away, was tortured, dumped into a place that was supposed to kill him, somehow survived and returned to the war where he was ostracized, practically won the war for them, and yet is still accused of terrible things. And then everything else that happened after the war. Pretty sure that would make anyone bitter.
It seems demeaning to WY when fanfic writers choose to go down the path of Resentful Energy makes WY angry and do bad things so LZ must save him, while WY was just traumatized and trying to do what was righteous and just.
I get really annoyed when people write that Lan Zhan was just saving WY from himself. When he should have been saving him from everyone else. Which is what he did in the 2nd life, where he didnt care what method WY used he just wanted to be with him. Like it's just energy, it's supposed to prove WY theory from when he was a student.

To me it was always like oh look an mini Lwj like he's not comparing sizhui to the lan he's directly comparing him to Lwj even if in all his obliviousness he doesn't understand what he's doing.
i love that sizhui is singled out by wei wuxian as the most competent, mature, and also least "lan-like" of the lan juniors. rather than being an archetypal lan, sizhui is like an anti-lan, and i mean this in the best way possible. he's flexible and compassionate, whereas the others are rigid and intolerant, so different from the others that wei wuxian wonders how a lan could've raised someone like sizhui. lan yuan my beloved, the gentle promise of spring 🫶🫶

Ok so I saw this post on Quora and it got me thinking in the 1st one it's Hermione telling the boys "...another plan to get us killed it worse expelled" and I laughed at it too the 1st time I read it and when I watched the movie but then I got to thinking if they're dead then they're dead but if they get get expelled they don't get to do magic anymore and from Hermiones characterization she loves magic and learning all about it and she came from a muggle background and if she gets expelled then she has to back to mundane stuff and she love authority and the validation they give her as we know from her boggart so not only would she disappoint the teachers but also her parents which for her would be worse than death.
Similarly in the second post Molly's like "could have died. Could have been seen" and canonically weaslys are a poor family so if the boys were seen then there would be the whole issue of breaking the statue of secrecy which with Arthur being in the ministry would at best result in a major fine that they probably wouldn't be able to pay and at worst Arthur losing his job cos he's the sole provider. Also paperwork like 😑😑 and in both cases harry wether he knows or understands it or not has a lot of political weight so most probably wouldn't get into *that* much trouble.
And yea that's just my ramblings on that!
#harry potter#hermione granger#quotes#honestly death is not the worst that could have happened he could have ended up back at pivet drive so he should count himself lucky
