Wilted Evening Primrose
Thorny ingrowns take drink from me
Anticipating syncope
Twisted and intrusive
The reason for pain, inconclusive
Scathing vines unable to be unwound
Gag me and leave me bound
I spit up red
But blood always dries brown
To match my corpse silting the ground
O, wilted evening primrose
You will salt the earth in memoriam of my birth
Though mothers never kiss cadaver toes

Artists need to lay their soul bare for the world to mock
That must be painful

An Honorary Poem in Lieu of Black History Month
Head fuzzy like a microphone
With cognizance that I do not stand alone
Standing upright, a strong-willed unmoved mountain
I pray each night we remain drinking from the same fountain
That with which refreshes us thirst-quenching unity
And cleanses from its stream an intolerant community
That we will not be mocked for our curls or an unkempt blazer
That the police will cease reaching for ammunition whilst crying out, "Taser!"
We are told not to resist
To remain complacent
To cease and desist
While still we shout that silence is racism-adjacent
Our plight is communal
May it be posted in every tribunal
That I am more than the melanin shown on my skin
That my soul is lit with a fire within
Each day we are judged
As we trudge through the trenches of bigotry and hatred
The color of my skin just as yours is every bit sacred
And on that notion I will not budge

Just saw a very serious tumblr post refer to adults age 25+ as “older adults.” I am begging you kids to go outside and interact with diverse groups of people. Please. It’s for your own good.

You cannot make everyone think and feel as deeply as you do. This is your tragedy … because you understand them, and they do not understand you.
