Truth

you can’t read a few text posts on tumblr and reblog a couple pictures of black lives matters and think you’re not racist. racism is a deeply engrained part of our culture - sometimes it’s not even conscious. you have to constantly question yourself. it’s pretty hard to unlearn 400+ years of institutional racism and in order for us to properly dismantle systems of injustice, we have to stop pretending we all aren’t part of the problem.

The Philly DIY/pop punk scene currently has a huge missing stair problem in photographer Ally Newbold. Ally’s offenses include actions such as: • harassing males that won’t have sex with her. • bragging about raping members of bands she has taken photos of and how easy it was. • forcing males that needed her help or were in tough spots to have sex with her. (ie rape) • flirting with underaged males in the scene. (when I say underaged I mean 14 years old) • using homophobic and transphobic slurs. • booking a band that made homophobic/transphobic/racist remarks to Daisy Fest, a fest she claimed was in support of a local LGBT* youth center. • dismissing and deleting comments made on the event page of Daisy Fest when being called out and asked to change the line up because members of the DIY scene were uncomfortable. • making rude comments when fans ask for advice. • being rude and nasty to other punk photographers. • taking money from fans that paid her for prints of live shows and never giving fans said photos. • taking money from bands that paid for promotional photos and never producing said photos. • being rude/nasty/unwelcoming to members of the scene she deemed unworthy. • stealing from her friends.

I could go on and on. The fact of the matter is, Ally Newbold is problematic. You can literally google, “Ally Newbold rapist” and get multiple hits from years prior to her booking Daisy Fest. She makes people uncomfortable, hasn’t apologized or made any statements and she flat out does not belong in our scene. It’s sickening to see members of the punk community continue to support Ally knowing how awful she is simply because she has a camera. She was ran out of the Orlando scene for the same reasons. I haven’t met one person that has anything honestly nice to say about this girl. She is the definition of a missing step and we need to fix our problem before anyone else gets hurt. We need Ally gone. We need to stop giving her money, letting her into our shows, letting her push our peers around. I don’t have anything else to say really except to those that don’t know her, be careful.
