Is 16 and Pregnant an effective form of birth control?
In this Ted talk the woman talks about the main reason for the decline in the birth rates was hugely inspired by the tv network MTV and its show 16 and pregnant. A professor from the University of Maryland said that the decline in birth rates started to accelerate. They said to get their data they set out to look on twitter and google and see what people searched the day after 16 and pregnant aired. they said they saw spikes in the questions about how to get ahold of contraceptives. they then stated that the show had a sizeable impact young teen girls and birth rate dropped 5.7 percent.

Study: MTV’s 16 and Pregnant Led To Fewer Teen Births
In this interview a professor is interviewed and asked questions about how he concluded the fact that a tv show led to fewer child births in the united states today.  The professor said he looked and searched up tweets talking about the show 16 and pregnant. Professor Levine said he found that more teens were asking how could they find contraceptives and that the show itself was the best form of contraceptive. He said that in the places where 16 and Pregnant were more popular, he saw that there was more of a decline in teen births. He said that a grand total of 20,000 births have been prevented since the showing of 16 and Pregnant.

16 and Pregnant: A content analysis of a reality television program about unplanned teen pregnancy.,
In this particular article they talk about how they analyzed the content of the show to determine the themes viewers were exposed too as well as reproductive health information, messages about sex, safer sex/condoms and contraception. Some of the themes included lack of support especially from teen fathers, sacrifice of activities previously enjoyed, difficulty following career and education plans and the surprise about the difficulties of parenting. Three study team members watched 3 seasons of 16 and pregnant separately and collected data about the shows content. The results that they came up with is that all pregnancies were unplanned, three episodes included a teen who put their baby up for adoption, and none of the episodes featured a teen who chose abortion. In its conclusion the authors say that although the show realistically portrays the struggles and hardships of teen parenting, it shows little information about safer sex/condoms, contraception and sex in general. It says it also ignores abortion as a legitimate option and omits a crucial part of the teens life.

Investigating How MTV’s “16 and Pregnant” May Be Used as Media Literacy Education with High-Risk Adolescents
Reality TV shows featuring teen pregnancy may be used as media literacy tools to positively affect youth sexual outcomes. However, there were some concerns about having such programs exist may glamorize teen pregnancy. The present study examines how viewing and discussing episodes of “16 and Pregnant,” may impact adolescents at high risk for teen pregnancy. The adolescents who watched indicated that they enjoyed the program and saw it as realistic but did not think the lives of the characters were desirable. The results conclude that reality tv shows that focus on the potential outcomes of sexual behavior may be a useful way to engage adolescents in conversations about sexual health.
This particular article will be useful for me in my paper because I am arguing that 16 and Pregnant is in fact a way to put the message out there that “this is what can be your life if you are not careful enough and take the necessary precautions.”

Video
I most definitely agree that you don’t have to be flashy with the money you make in order to be a well known celebrity. Kendrick portrays that very well, I look forward to hearing and seeing what the rest of your paper is about.

ANNOTATION 4 : POP CULTURE ARTIFACTS
Viceland. (2016, February 23). Bompton with Kendrick Lamar ( noisey episode 1) [Video file]. Retrieved from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPmk7I0A8k8
This video basically talks about the gang violence in Compton California and how they are a lot of bloods that surround and live in Compton. It explains how in black young man name Kendrick Lamar avoided the gang life and became a famous celebrity rapper that raps about the struggle of coming from nothing and making it out of Compton or Bompton as it is said in the video.
I could use this video in paper because it describe how you don’t necessarily have to live that stereotypical rich life to gain attention from society and become a celebrity. As you see here in the video Kendrick does not walk around with five gold chains and a new Lamborghini to show that he is a celebrity. He has millions but that does not define a celebrity and it certainly is not why people like him so much. the like him because him raps about true life stories and struggles that a black boy living in bompton goes through.

From what I have seen you’re the only one doing a topic like this, I look forward too seeing where this goes!
NASA Space Technology Roadmaps and Priorities : Restoring NASA’s Technological Edge and Paving the Way for a New Era in Space. (2012). Washington, D.C.: National Academies Press.
This eBook gives information on Space Weather. It includes space radiation, and solar phenomena.  It also lists the impact on space technology such as flight computing, Health Management sensors, electronics, safety systems, on-board computing, etc. It also talks about the importance of Avionics Systems and the impact of its technology such as radiation tolerance, and fault management.  I think this information will be helpful since my paper will touch up on the subject of knowing about space weather, and its impacts in space and on Earth.

The role of new media on teen sexual behaviors and fertility outcomes- the case of 26 and pregnant.
In 2011 the birth rate for teens was 31.1% of births per 1000 women aged 15-19 according to the CDC. (Centers for Disease Control) It was said that that was an all time low for the United State. Economic research has identified the roles of parents, peers, substance use, depression and sex education on teens risky sexual activity and subsequent health outcomes. They also said that the reasons behind the recent decline in sexual activity and fertility is largely unknown. The results of the analyses consistently suggests that the the reality tv shows on teen pregnancy has improved teens sex behaviors and impacts the birth rate.

Father-Daughter Communication About Sex Moderates The Association Between Exposure To MTV’s 16 and Pregnant/Teen Mom and Female Students’ Pregnancy-Risk Behavior
This particular article highlights the impact father’s have on their daughter and their sexual life or lack thereof. They did a survey that gathered date from 313 female students. It says that females are more likely participate in sexual intercourse after talking to their mother where as when they talk to their father about sex they are more likely to shy away from the thought of having sexual intercourse.
Researchers guess that televisions representation of sex is painted as a recreational activity that doesn't come with consequences. Instead they say that it glamorizes and gives them stardom by becoming a mom at a young age. They said that the programs “16 and Pregnant” and “Teen Mom” were made to show the young teens the “honest and unpleasant truth of teen pregnancy.” (Dolgen, 2011)

Media Influences on Social Outcomes: The Impact of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant on Teen Childbearing
This particular article is about how the show “16 and Pregnant” has an impact on whether teenage girls have children at an early age or if they don’t. In the article it says that they worry about if it is just exposing the viewers to sexual and violent content on adolescent teens. They also stated that they think the way teenagers respond to media is so far gone that the images can cause teenagers to behave in any type of way. The show itself is supposed to show the difficulties and hardships of  becoming a mother at a very young age and to hopefully help prevent others from going down that road as well. It suggests that more teens are taking contraceptives and wearing condoms when having sex.
This is a useful source because my whole paper is based on the show “16 and Pregnant” and  I think it is very reliable. I think the goal of this source is to show that the show actually did some good and wasn’t just another reality tv show. This source was helpful to me because it gives me a better understanding on where to go for my final paper in this class.

Quote
Maybe the human experience is like a split tree trunk, the tree incorporating a moment of violence and trauma and growing around it. We all have damaged selves in some way, and the question is: Do you put yourself back together holding onto that flickering image of the ideal self? or do you let that go, and see yourself for what you are damaged, with other parts of you stronger for it? I don’t think we can ever be anything other than imperfect shadows of some impossible ideal

How I feel about writing’ these days is that it is relaxing and a good way to get your points and feelings across  and express yourself in a healthy way. I also like writing because you can do so many different things with it. You can bean author, a poet, an editor or even a copywriter. Writing is different for each individual but I personally like it because when I start writing I can’t stop.
