Oh scrap
Soundwave x human reader
Summary: the decepticons start talking about who’s the hottest one, and agree that an alien could break the tie (aka reader) and without a hesitation they say soundwave, not knowing this guy can hear everything lol
Tumblr media
Pt.1. Pt.2. ———————————————————————
It had been just a regular day on the nemesis. Cleaning Shockwaves and Knockouts tools, updating some data pads, reporting to Megatron, and hanging out with the minicons.
You started this routine since the day they brought you here.
Apparently Megatron had heard that the autobots had more moral thanks to the human habitants. Thus he decided to do the same.
And that’s basically how you ended up there.
Thankfully, you got along with a lot of decepticons, especially those in the higher ranks. Mainly since you were a great escape from gruesome responsibilities of the war. that’s why it’s not surprising that you’ve experienced many interesting conversations with your giant comrades.
Especially after explaining common human entertainment would often lead to a lot of chaos.
Like today, some cons had started discussing about human attraction standards.
They found it strange how inconsistent the standards were all over the world.
Yet somehow this conversation shifted into who was the most attractive decepticon.
It went from being a simple small conversation to a whole blow out debate. You hadn’t even realized how out of control the whole thing had gotten.
At some point knockout had joined claiming that he was the most eye captivating cybertronian even to the humans. But of course, the lanky drama queen known as Starscream was not letting him have all the glory.
All their squabbling was really starting to get on your nerves. Especially since all the commotion kept shaking the platform you were currently resting on.
And clearly you weren’t the only one annoyed with their antics, since Megatron decided to see what all the ruckus was about.
Though he clearly wasn’t expecting to have his second in command and the medic start stating the reasons why they were more attractive than the other, then forgetting he was even their in the first place and currently occupy themselves in a fully out cat fight.
He was honestly tired of this whole situation. The way it had escalated was too far out of control and he needed to end this at once.
Without hesitation he vented a bit before speaking to make sure to convey his anger.
“enough with this nonsense.”
Oh scarp, they forgot he was there.
“If you truly want to know who’s the most attractive, why don’t you just ask the human in question?”
Now all attention was on you.
Before you could even plan an escape Megatron was quick to reach his servers towards you. And Lifted you up to where everyone could see and hear you.
“So tell us, as the only human aboard our ship,” he pulls you closer, “who is the most attractive decepticon?”
Honestly it felt like he was taunting you. Maybe the whole thing was a trap. Did he want you to say his name, somebody else, or no one at all?
I mean, you clearly couldn’t choose any without causing a ruckus.
But before you could stop your mouth and think your answer through, your default brain was let loose.
“Well there’s only one correct answer to that,”
All of them quietly waiting in anticipation for your response.
“It’s obviously Soundwave, have you even seen the guy? He definitely the hottest.”
What?— the whole place blew up with different reactions.
Megatron was partially amused but also partially uncomfortable with your response towards his most loyal companion.
Knockout feels completely cheated off and starts claiming the whole thing was rigged. And you don’t even have to look at Starscream to hear his complaints and tantrum saying how soundwave doesn’t even have a sexy voice.
And at that you started defending why you had chosen your crush without letting on that he was your crush and still admiring all his qualities.
But unbeknownst to you, the calm alien was having a hard time keeping his composure.
He could hear everyone’s thoughts and emotions about the whole ordeal. And even though he couldn’t feel your emotions the same way with cybertronians.
Your emotions were very clear to him. Big enough for him to understand how you felt about him.
Honestly he was flattered at how he could feel you defending your choice and the whole things was starting to fluster him when you started praising his physique and voice.
Even his own cassettes were starting to wonder what was making their boss aka dad so stiff.

AAAAH I loved your most to least list!!!! I 💯 agree with your opinion frfr
I have another request 🫵🏼🧐 what if TFP! bumblebee, smokescreen and (insert any character you want)'s female S/O has this random 'affection bursts' where she would randomly shout 'my precious babyyy' and rub herself onto their faces or hugs their hands ??! I want some of that fluff pls 🥺
Aww, I'm so glad you liked it!! Aaand I love the idea of an aggressive affectionate S/O! (❤´艸`❤) I'll assume the reader is a human based on the things you said!
TFP Bumblebee, Smokescreen and Soundwave with a Female!Human!S/O who has affection bursts!
WARNING: She/Her pronouns used for S/O but there are none physical descriptions, fluff (too much fluff it's sickening!!! /j), romantic relationships. S/O is an adult (over 20 years old).
Tumblr media
BUMBLEBEE
In the beginning he was kind of confused but never gave it too much thought before you two became a couple.
There were a few times you would arrive to the base and have those little outburts with the kids - it was always hugs and gentle cheek-to-cheek snuggles (specially with Miko and Raff). Bee always associated it to when a Carrier or Sire are with their sparkling. Which is good! It means you care for them! And that makes Bee beep happily.
But when you two became a couple? Bee was actually scared! At least the first times.
"My precious Bee!" your shout is followed by Bee's surprised beep, but when he sees it's just you, he sighs in relief as you hug his peds.
Remember how Bee's face looks whenever someone in the movies touches his cheek? Yeah, that's how he looks at you - with pure love and adoration as he melts while you are hugging his faceplate and gently rubbing your face against his.
Would gently snuzzle his faceplate against you whenever you are cuddling - making you giggle cuz I imagine his faceplate would nearly always be against your torso.
He beeps-chuckles at anytime you hug his pedes or legplates and loudly make 'mwah' noises.
Bee does get shy when anyone mentions how fuzzy and flusttered he looks after getting a kiss or cuddle from you, but the shyness becomes enamoured sighs as he counts the kliks until you have another affection burst on him.
"Beep..."
"Oh, come on, Bee - she just left. And she gave you your daily dosis of cuddles! Don't be sad!" Raff says back, smiling at his guardian.
Come back and give him love, S/O. *(੭*ˊᵕˋ)੭*ଘ
SMOKESCREEN
This mech looking at his S/O like (❤ ω ❤) 24/7 all year around.
The very 1st time he saw you have that platonic-affection outburst with any of the kids he was curious... aaand lowkey hopeful he would get one too.
"I wish S/O would hug me too..." / "Beep-wee?" / "N-nothing!"
When you two became a couple there are affection bursts from both of you, nearly every day.
You two become Ratchet's worst nightmare - Ratchet was already starting to accept your affection outburts. But now having Smokescreen not shut up about you? And also always shout "My precious star!" whenever he sees you, followed by "Smokyyy!" from your part? "Primus, end me."
Smokescreen loves to hold you carefully on his servos and lift you to his helm level so you can hug him and press kisses all over his faceplate.
And he always kisses the top of your head, imitating your loud 'mwah!' sounds.
"Isn't my sparkmate the best? And the most beautiful girl of them all? If I could I would always carry her and kiss her and - !"
Your relationship with Smokescreen would be:
"I am a serious and cold-calculated autobot!" / "Who is my beloved Smoky?" / "Meee :3"
He holds you so dearly while you hug his chestplate, and he can't help but feel like his spark is vibrating in pure happiness. His precious little star.
SOUNDWAVE
Well... this is new.
Soundwave is always on alert, after all, he was to keep an optic on anyone and anything inside and outside of the Nemesis.
How did he not notice you arrive to his area and hug one of his tentacles?
He actually flinched and slowly looked down at you.
You just laughed awkwardly as you let go of his tentacle. "Sorry, Soundwave - wanted to, uh, give you a hug... have a nice day!" and you leave quickly.
Soundwave never takes off his optics from you until you finally disappear from his sight, to then look down at his hugged tentacle. It felt... nice.
From that day, whenever you two are in the same place, he slowly moves one of his tentacles towards you. And when you finally catch on that you can hug him again, you swear you saw the smiling face emoji on his faceplate.
It takes time to let you hug more than his tentacle - starts to let you hug his pedes or legplates. Then when he finally lets you get on his servo, he only lets you hug or rest against his chestplate.
But when he allows you to hug his faceplate?
The panel on his faceplate only showed kiss and enamoured emojis when you kissed it.
Of course, only when you two are all alone! But won't stop you if you have your affection outburst while others watch. They know better than to judge or laugh at the sight.
"My scary and big Soundwave." /affectionate.
" (❤´艸`❤) "
He will now always try to have you on his servos or carry you around. And loooves when you snuggle aggressively your cheek against his armplates or servos.
Will do the same with either his own faceplate or use one of his tentacles to playfully snuggle your face.
Becomes really silly with you.
"Soundwave: request. S/O: proceed with affection burst."

"Pet names" pt4 GN BOT Reader + Soundwave (His cassettes), Starscream, Megatron
Tumblr media
Summary: Reader has become partial to using human pet names for everyone.
Warnings: Megatron mentions of thinking of hitting Reader but it's light hearted all things considered.
G1 characters: Soundwave (and his cassettes), Starscream, Megatron
Genre/Theme: Platonic/light crush vibes
Notes: Con Bot Reader! Reader is higher ranking in the Decepticons and knows how to fight. Reader is said to be more loyal to the cause then Megatron necessarily. Reader is written as older bot in mind.
Pronouns: You, Your, Yours
Tumblr media
Soundwave Isn't expecting too much to go wrong today, since it was only an inventory day on the nemesis. You pass him the datapads he requested from you and he almost immediately drops them all when you speak. "Here ya go, Love. let me know if there's any issues with 'em" Soundwave freezes at the term but also has no feasible clue as to what his next course of action should be in this situation. But at his sudden silence you only meet his visor and a smile curls on your derma. And then your em field brushes warm across his side- But Soundwave doesn't say anything when you then turn on your pede and head to go back to your own tasks. And Soundwave is stuck standing with a stack of datapads in his servos for longer than he'd admit to, till he finally forces himself to place the pile on his desk. Then Ravage comes running back a few joors later asking to dock and he complies- and is promptly hit by the visual of you calling Skywarp "Babe" and he's suddenly now aware you've just seemingly begun to do this.
Soundwave admittedly does enjoy it. It was simple and there was no harm to your actions. A smile there, a name there, em field warm to the touch and filled with something almost... delicate. Soundwave did admittedly crave some form of domesticity, it was quite literally embedded in his coding with his frame type. The Decepticons didn't operate on such things so he's long learned to savor the small moments he'd occasionally share with his cassettes behind closed doors. But the affections you offered would make his frame want to instinctively lean forward for your em field to simply feather across his frame faster. So Soundwave allows himself the small enjoyment since there's no deceit in your field or frame when you do so. It's something that soothes the slight ache of wariness in his joints and fills the gaps in his plating.
Theres also the fact he's gotten a heaping amount of blackmail from recording the other Decepticons various reactions to your actions. Some were obviously violent with you promptly putting unruly soldiers back in their places before calling them sweet names again with a hint of bite when they were flat on their afts. He knows you know how to handle yourself and you were still a high ranking officer so the only one who could technically order you to stop was Megatron himself. But you didn't tend to report the insubordination itself. So Soundwave may as well keep the acting out recorded for when he needs to remind someone that Soundwave has his own ways of keeping the rabble in line. There was also the few recordings of some who didn't fight back and optics would brighten harsh enough their faceplates would either risk coloring or would color cobalt. Which were also quite a good source of blackmail for Soundwave.
-
For the cassettes it's only funny when it's someone else. Whether it's Soundwave or another one of them your attention is on. They're smiling and chuckling over whoever is on the receiving end. Laserbeak and Ravage are the fastest to not care about image since their already prone to physical attention due to both their alt modes being beasts. Getting a helm pat while you coo and call them "Gorgeous" has them both pushing back against you fast for more affection. The twins (and Buzzsaw) are hardafts about it, Scoffing and turning their olfactories up at you. Rumble actually does enjoy it a lot but you wouldn't be able to squeeze that outta him. No chance in pit! They all collectively enjoy watching Soundwave being on the receiving end more though. They can physically feel Soundwaves reactions to your affections and its hysterical every time Soundwave is shocked for half a nanoklick before bashfulness gets snuffed out of the bond link. (It's never fast enough that the cassettes can't feel it first though).
They're little slaggers and will not hesitate to push you to interact with Soundwave for something even if they do have the information just because they wanna see you inflicted on Soundwave. Soundwave catches on fast however and immediately begins doing the opposite to them. Turning you on his cassettes for something even when Soundwave already has the information, and watching them promptly fumble with the attention. You've unknowingly become a game to them all which is who can they get to interact with you and watch their optics brighten in real time. It's funnier if whichever con tries to fight you for it because the cassettes already know they're gonna just watch you knock somebot on their aft.
-
Starscream is ranting about Megatrons latest easily avoidable battle fumble that could have been avoided, if he allowed Starscream to kill Optimus last battle instead of stupidly let the mech get back up again. It was time for a high command meeting and it's you and him waiting on Soundwave and Megatron. Starscream knew you entertained his ideas and Starscream knew sparkdamn well your loyalties lied more with the cause then Megatron. So he wastes no chance to try and persuade you to join his side over Megatrons whenever he can. You just leaned your faceplate against your own servo which was propped up on the meeting table. "Darling, you know perfectly well how he is with Prime. He's possessive, and knows he'll only get to kill him once. Megatron wants to savor the death of Optimus Prime." You stated as if it were so matter of factually and not simply that your bumbling leader did whatever he pleased regardless of if it was detrimental to the Decepticon cause.
He thinks on what you'd said longer and scoffs, his wings flicking at the battle memory. Then his optics widen a touch when he thinks you'd just called him "Darling"? No No you definitely had just started that statement off by calling Starscream darling. Starscreams gaze snaps back to you with questions but your expression betrayed nothing at all, expression and em field completely neutral. Had you- Not realized you'd done that? You met Starscreams gaze and a smirk curled on your derma. "What's wrong, love?" Your em field lightly brushing against his side has Starscreams expression furrowing before he can even attempt to hide his own befuddlement. Then Megatron walked into the room with Soundwave and both your helms snapped to them instead. Starscream doesn't know what the pit you were playing at then but then sees you say something flirtatious with Skywarp of all bots- then Soundwave, and then hes demanding to know if you've had your personality module shorted when they weren't looking. But you just smirked at him in the infuriating way you did and say "What? I just think the Cons could use a little TLC." Starscream cannot hide his sneer when you explain what "TLC" means. You were Decpticon warriors! Not blasted organics in a cheap shoddy excuse for a romantic film. Skywarp actually growled at him when Starscream told him to act like his sparkdamned position, and not hike his wings so high in the air when you interacted with him. Growled at him! Starscream was going to shoot that idiot the next chance he got.
Starscream hates your little excuse of a habit and he's starting to hate interacting with you. Every meeting is an infuriating term, or smile, or all spark forbid you try and fan your em field out against him again- he might just threaten to end you there and then! Starscream was a war frame! Not just any war frame but the second in command in the Decepticons! Your position aside, you still were not above Starscream in rank! The only time he actually lets you is on accident- when his guard drops. Starscream returned from a mission with an earth item they needed for their plans and had to outgun and quickly outrun the Autobots by himself. And what does he get when he returns? Megatrons infuriating unappreciative aft telling him he should've been faster. Starscream is seething off to the side when a servo grasps his arm and Starscream whips his helm around ready to fight, obviously, and its you. "Great job out there, Darling." You say with a smile and your em field fully presses against Starscream and it is warm. Your thumb rubs a slow press against were you're holding his arm and then you simply let go and leave.
Starscream would have shot you if his embarrassment caught up to him before you'd left. But instead he's stuck standing there like a fool alone with his wings hiked high in the air without his own input. His own optics burning. Starscreams engine growled under his own vents and he stomped off to go get ready for the impending battle. He was going to slag you for this foolery one day! (Starscream does not even entertain to fleeting thought to find you to next time he completes a task. The thoughts dead and smelted as soon as it has the audacity to form.)
-
Megatron knows were your loyalties lie but you were competent and a good solider so he has no qualms with them. After all you'd simply stated you'd tell him yourself if you thought you had to kill him for the sake of the Decepticon cause. Megatron laughed knowing you were completely and utterly serious about that. He simply offered the same sentimentality back to you. He'd known you for a very very long time so the clarity of were you both stood on any situation was typically warranted. That said after vorns of knowing you he's still not ready when your giving him your verbal report and you hold out the datapad with the written report still on the screen for him to take. "All that said not too much to regard about, Sweetspark. Thankfully the mission went off without much of a hitch." Megatron stops were he is and at that point he's in the middle of taking the datapad, servo still holding onto the electronic device and held in front of himself. And Megatron stares back at you letting what you'd just said settle in the silence. You don't open your mouth again to explain yourself so Megatron opens his.
"Are you- overcharged you fool? What... buffoonery are you trying to accomplish here?" And Megatron looks at your optics to genuinely check if they are any brighter as a sign of overcharge but their the same brightness they always typically are. He watches a smirk curl on your derma and feels amusement fan in your em field- He knows because Megatron can blatantly feel it brushing against his chassis. It's not strictly unpleasant- but it is foreign enough he has to suppress the instinctive urge to pull back.
"Ah, Sorry Sir," Your em field flexes warmer when the word leaves your mouth, "Learned that praise is apparently shown to encourage morale and good behavior. It's been working with the other cons so far. Even got some of the usual misbehaving rabble to start acting more... proper." You were doing this with the soldiers.
"Has it now?" You only nodded unperturbed still by the situation. You were competent and if the unruly soldiers listened when you had no regard for indulging the brutes in such a thing he couldn't exactly argue against it. However- "Hm, Do not use such terms when we're not alone. It would be ill advised for the others to hear me referred to by such things." Your smirk widens and further amusement curls against Megatrons frame and he as to resist to urge to try and strike you for it. Knowing fully well you'd more than likely dodge and would rightfully try and strike him one back. (Before likely booking it out of his throne room before Megatron could stand properly.) Megatron enjoys it more than he would ever admit, even to you. Your smile, Your unrestrained em field, and he even enjoys the rather confounded little names you'd use whenever you were alone with one another. It didn't make much logical sense considering how ridiculous the entire affair was but Megatron wanted you to continue doing it. And Megatron was never restrained with his own desires.
He does however restrain himself when he suddenly gets the baffling urge to reach a servo out and brush his knuckles against your faceplate one night. Something so ridiculously... chummy was not something Megatron would stoop low enough to perform. So he instead lets his plating lax a touch more than usual when your em field brushes against his own frame. You were simply putting work into the sanctity of the Deception cause. Nothing more, nothing less...

UGH HES SO CUTE
Warnings: None I think, just fluff!
----------------------------------------------------------
He's so quiet, but it's cute. He just stands there staring off into the blank distance as you're yapping away. He pays attention to every detail and just keeps nodding after every sentence, and for some reason, you're happy at this small gesture. So you keep going!
Soundwave is the eyes and ears of everything, so he's constantly listening to different conversations at once, while also keeping up with a one-sided conversation with you. He's got to admit, your guy's conversations are more "interesting."
He doesn't communicate much but when he does, trust that it's the cutest thing ever. He's interested in what you're doing? He'll cock his head to the side. He wants a hug? He'll nudge a tentacle onto you. Oh, he wants a smooch? I got you! He'll lean down and nudge his visor towards you. You said something he likes? A cute "💗" appears on his visor. If you're in another room, just know you'll probably get a random text of an emoji signaling what he wants.
He probably installed some dumb protection software onto your laptop and electronics to make sure nobody is hacking you or spying on you. It's one of his ways of showing you his love.
If you ever need something, don't worry about sighing about it multiple times.
"Sighhhhhhh, the new iphone looks so-"
Would you look at that! The new iPhone is on the table in front of you!
If a Decepticon walked in on you guys or discovered you, he wouldn't hesitate to defend you. He couldn't let anything happen to you. If Megatron threatens to squish you, trust that Soundwave will get you somewhere as far as possible and out of reach from him. He knows Megatron shouldn't be taken lightly. Soundwave will get you a personal device to communicate with him though!
He makes Laserbeak watch you when he can't. Laserbeak definitely grows to like you because Soundwave likes you! How cute! I love you Soundwave!

Can I request headcannons for transformers x gn human reader who said they could hold their whole world in their hands then gently cupping their face?
☆ The World In Your Palm — Transformers x GN Human Reader ☆
Genre: Fluff || they/them pronouns for reader || No warnings needed
A/N: Features Optimus, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Starscream, Soundwave, and Megatron
Tumblr media
──────.𖥔 ݁ ˖˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ──────
Optimus
ᯓᡣ𐭩 "Can you now? That's quite the goal"
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He thinks it's another cute little human idea initially. A bit of a naive one maybe, but most earth ideas for "shooting for the stars" always confused him a bit. He also sort of sums it up to a hyperbole and doesn't ask much more about it
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Until you offer to show him. That gets his attention. Humans are capable of incredible feats, yes, but how were you planning to prove such a thing? Much more visibly confused, he leans down like you ask him to
ᯓᡣ𐭩 As soon as your palms cup his cheekplates, he's even more bewildered. After thinking about it for a second, he chuckles, leaning into your touch as he uses a large hand to pull you a little closer. "That's very clever" he says with a smile "looks like I can hold the world in my hand too"
Ratchet
ᯓᡣ𐭩 "Uh..huh. Good luck with that"
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Completely doesn't understand the setup. The whole world?? This one? The giant ball in space holding billions of people? What's that supposed to mean? He assumes you're trying to bait him into a joke or something
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Then you ask him to lean down, and he's even more lost. If this is some sort of practical joke you'd learned from others, he wasn't excited for the outcome. But because it's you, he trusts it, bringing his face close enough for you to reach
ᯓᡣ𐭩 When your hands cup his face, he's even more lost. He runs the situation over again in his heads a few times before it actually lands. He acts exasperated to cover up how flustered he is, lightly patting your head. "You humans, I swear... cute trick, kid"
Bumblebee
ᯓᡣ𐭩 "Oh yeah? Go ahead, try, I wanna see it"
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He's amused at the idea. He knows you're likely not being literal, but he wants to see where it goes. He's had a lot of fun learning human jokes so far, what's one more to the list?
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He leans down as soon as you asked, excited to see the expected punchline. He can't exactly see where it's going yet, but knowing you he hopes for the best and waits expectantly
ᯓᡣ𐭩 When your hands land on his face, he has to take a second to get it. There's a bit of a 'is that... it?' moment where he's still waiting for the joke. Then it clicks all at once, and he gains a very obvious blush on his face. He cups his hands around your head, grinning widely "Well I can hold my whole world in just one hand! Beat that"
Starscream
ᯓᡣ𐭩 "Ha! That bold, are you? Is there no end to your feeble little plans?"
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He sounds a little mean about it, but it's just his usual teasing. Sort of in a 'that's nice honey' kind of way. He of course argues that if anyone is fit to carry the world, it would be him, obviously
ᯓᡣ𐭩 It takes some convincing to get him to kneel down. He pretends like he's oh so busy and has so many important things to do, but inevitably gives in and indulges your whims
ᯓᡣ𐭩 The second your hands reach his face, he gets it immediately. He stammered a bit, chuckling as he tried to brush it off. He didn't want it to be so obvious that something so small could fluster him, but he couldn't help it around you. "Ahem- well- you're very brave for being so forward! But I suppose I can allow you to hold on for a moment longer"
Soundwave
ᯓᡣ𐭩 "Improbable. The world is too big for human hands"
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Takes your words at direct face value. He's trying to be honest and let you down easy. He's got no idea how you somehow convinced yourself you were strong enough to pull that off, but he feels like he has to bring you back to reality
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He's only confused when you ask him to come closer. What does this have to do with your claim? He leans down of course, but he doesn't understand what's happening
ᯓᡣ𐭩 When your hands hold his face, he just pauses. He's about to correct you, but before the words can fully leave his mouth, he realizes what you're trying to say. He sighs from his vents as he holds onto your wrists. "I see. I.. can hold the world in mine, too"
Megatron
ᯓᡣ𐭩 "Aiming big, aren't we? Your time will come"
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He indulges your comment. He's promised you the world, everything his servos can carry. Of course it'll all be yours someday, he'll make sure of it
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He leans down at your request, though he of course asks what you're planning. He can tell by your little grin whenever you've got something brewing in your head, but he allows it for the sake of it
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He catches on the second you hold his face, and he chuckles in amusement. "Ah, that's what you meant" he said, leaning into the embrace "clever... for a human" he teases lightly

Lmao-
Imagine Soundwave's human... friend/maybe more, running up to him and making rather frantic grabby hands, making it clear they want to be picked up
He does so
And then Airachnid rounds the corner, quite obviously she was chasing after them
He understands the urgency of the uppies now
Ajdjfhshshfjfbfb
I love human uppies in Transformers fics. Like girl I wish that was me so bad!
I can also imagine TFP Soundwave being extra indulgent to his human. Just say the word and he’ll do whatever for you. You kind of have him wrapped around your finger. I mean you’re just so small and cute he can’t help it!
Soundwave is just chilling at his panel when the pitter patter of human steps against the metal of the Nemesis catches his attention. You stop in front of him and start hopping with your arms in the air making grabby motions around him. A little heart appears on his visor before one of his tendrils lifts you up by the back of your shirt and onto his shoulder plating.
He could feel your little body shiver. Were you cold? Scared? Scared of him?
Then the clacking of eight pedes puts him on high alert.
“I see the human got to you before I got to them,” Airachnid said with a coy grin on her faceplate. Soundwave only bared her a glance over your small body clinging against his shoulder. “No matter,” she purred. “We’ll continue our game another time, isn’t that right my little fleshy?” There was poison and promise of violence dripping behind her words. Airachnid casually made her exit as if she had been discussing Cybertronian sports with Soundwave instead of threatening his beloved human.
You curled against him with a fierce grip on his plating. Soundwave patted you with one of his tendrils trying to soothe the fear you were exuding. It seems that he would have to keep a closer optic on your whereabouts. It was unacceptable to him that the optics and audials of the Nemesis could even let something like this happen. How could he have been so sloppy?

bug trouble (TF Prime)
featuring - Optimus Prime x F!Reader, Bumblebee x F!Reader, Smokescreen x F!Reader, Knock Out x F!Reader, Wheeljack x F!Reader, Soundwave x F!Reader, Shockwave x F!Reader
summary - you have faced some of the worse Decepticons/Autobots with them, so your fear of little organic insects mystifies them
warnings - the Bots and Cons shoot at/step on/crush the spiders, some of them by accident
a/n - i don't condone killing anything but in my opinion this is how they would solve it, as battle-hardened warriors
OPTIMUS PRIME
Tumblr media
Optimus and the team had just come back from another dangerous and tiring mission to stop the Decepticons from getting their servos on a relic. The base was suspiciously quiet, and they were sure that you and the other humans hadn't followed them through the ground bridge this time.
So where were you?
Ratchet was at his usual station, chuckling to himself, which earned suspicious looks from Arcee, Bulkhead and Bumblebee.
"Ratchet?" Optimus called. "Where are the children?"
The medic turned to the returned team, "At this point, I don't know. (Name) screamed randomly, and they scattered."
"And you haven't even tried to find them?" Arcee crossed her arms.
"I was just doing that now," Ratchet replied.
"Then why were you giggling like a little girl?" Bulkhead asked.
Optimus walked over to check the screens, spotting you in one of the camera feeds. You were in one of the relic containment units, running around the platform holding the relic, frantically. The Prime immediately turned and walked to that room, leaving the others to bicker. When he opened the unit, you screamed and ran past him, sobbing hysterically.
A little black thing with eight legs was following behind you.
(Name)," the Prime called, "Wait."
He followed you, back to the main area where you circled around Bulkhead and ran back to him, trying to scale his leg. Optimus bent down and lifted you up.
"My love, what is that following you? And why are you afraid?"
"It's a spider!" You wailed, "And it's got eight creepy legs and six creepier eyes!" You shivered. "Stuff of nightmares, really." Tears still streamed down your face.
Optimus looked back down at the arachnid, which was hesitating to follow you up his leg. Arcee shivered as well, the sight of the spider reminding her of her worst enemy.
"I shall get rid of it," the Prime handed you to Arcee before reaching down to pick up the arachnid. It crawled onto his digit, and in his attempt to grab it with his other servo he accidentally crushed it. "Oops."
You shivered when he reached for you again, "Optimus, I love you but if you touch me with the remains of that infernal thing on your servos, I will jump out of your hands and accept my fate."
The Prime was even more confused, but complied and only reached for you when he had cleaned his servos. You happily returned to him, relaxing in his hold.
"You have faced the likes of Starscream and a zombie Skyquake," he looked at you, "Yet you fear a little earth arachnid?"
You pouted, "Did I mention the eight legs and six eyes?"
Optimus was still confused, but comforted you nonetheless. He held you and stroked your back soothingly with one digit, telling you about their mission to distract you. It worked, for the most part.
BUMBLEBEE
Tumblr media
All Bumblebee wants to do after a long day of fighting Cons is to sit and have you curl up to him as you watch a movie. The feeling of you against him always calms him, and never fails to destress him after a mission.
Unfortunately, when the team got back there was no sign of you or Jack, Miko and Raf. Only a giggling Ratchet, which set off alarm bells in Bee's processor.
The scout beeped a few times, asking the medic where you were.
"I did not know myself," Ratchet replied, "Until I took a look at our surveillance systems." He stepped aside to show the team.
Bumblebee spotted you immediately, and he immediately grew concerned. You were on his berth in his berthroom, shaking and frantically looking around but otherwisd stuck there for the time being.
The scout beeped worriedly, rushing off to save you from whatever horror was in his berthroom. When he opened the door, he saw something black with multiple legs scuttling around the room, and you were sobbing on his berth.
"Bumblebee!" You cried out when you saw him. "Blasters out, please!"
He beeped, asking why, and when you pointed to the arachnid on the floor he asked, Why do you want me to shoot something so small? It seems harmless. When you burst into even more tears, he quickly corrected himself, I mean, you've gone up against Starscream and Knock Out! Why does this thing scare you?
"Bumblebee please!" You begged, "I'll explain after, please just get rid of it!"
The scout obliged, blasting the arachnid to bits before coming closer, picking you up. You offered him rushed, relieved thank you's, before promptly burying yourself in his neck cables.
"It's got eight creepy legs," you complained to him, still shivering. "And six even creepier eyes. I hate them so much. I won't sleep for the next few nights."
Bumblebee beeped again, I will always protect you.
"I know...but these creepy crawlies..." You shivered again. "I would rather get kidnapped by Knock Out than face one of these again."
Bumblebee whined, Don't say that!
You laughed, kissing his faceplate, "Thank you, my hero."
His chassis puffed out in pride.
KNOCK OUT
Tumblr media
Starscream could be very annoying, this much you knew. He often got on Knock Out's nerves, more so than the doctor let on. But there were apparently no limits to heeled Decepticon's cruelty, because somehow he had found out about the human fear arachnophobia.
Because now the eight-legged abomination was scuttling around Knock Out's lab, stranding you on the tool table.
This was how the medic found you, on your hands and knees peering over the edge of the table. You were trembling, something he'd never seen you do. There was a wild, fearful look in your eyes that didn't match your usual behaviour, and Knock Out looked around.
"Am I missing something?"
You screamed and fell backwards, chest heaving, "Knock Out! Don't scare me like that!"
"You were scared long before I got here, sweetheart. What's the problem?"
"You don't see it?"
Your eyes once again landed on the floor, glued to something that was moving. He looked down, his optics narrowing in on the small, furry eight-legged creature.
"What is that?"
"A spider!" You shuffled back on the table. "Please get rid of it!"
The mad doctor looked confused, "You've come with me to battle Autobots, and have stood in the middle of our fights, but you afraid of something so tiny?"
You glared at him, "Count its legs and eyes before you judge!"
He sighed, but got rid of the arachnid by stepping on it. Then he proceeded to complain about getting his pede messed, and you face-palmed. At least you were calm now and no longer shaking, so he decided to ignore that.
"How did a spider even get on the ship?" He asked you, scooping you up and placing you on his shoulder - something he seemed to enjoy.
"Take one guess."
"Screamer?" He already knew the answer without your confirmation.
"Mhm."
Knock Out didn't take kindly to anyone messing with what belonged to him. Especially if it was his precious little human. So the next time Starscream needed repairs, you laughed when you heard his repair had malfunctioned, knowing that the mad doctor had purposely sabotaged it.
SMOKESCREEN
Tumblr media
Every time Smokescreen thought he had found out all he needed to know about the human race, he was smacked in the helm with something new. He hadn't even considered that you had fears, since he had seen you face Decepticons and not even flinch.
Yet here you were, screaming murder and running away from a little black thing with eight furry legs. The rest of the team looked up from their positions, Miko's face paling as she took off as well.
"What's that?" Smokescreen looked at Bumblebee, confused.
Bumblebee beeped a few times, explaining that spiders were eight-legged, six-eyed arachnids that freaked you and Miko out like nothing else.
Smokescreen looked at you again, before going over and picking you up. He didn't understand your fear, but he didn't want you to feel scared when he was right there.
"It's okay, I got it!"
He tried stepping on it, but it scuttled away. He set you down on his shoulder and tried to grab it, which made you yelp and attempt to scale down his back.
"No no no!" You kept muttering, shivering and shaking like you were in some kind of horrible trance.
"It's so small!" He grit his dentae, reaching for it again. "This thing isn't as scary as some Decepticons." He meant well. He just sometimes said stupid things.
"I would rather fight Starscream again than be around that thing!" You cried, climbing as far back as possible as he finally got a hold of it. You slipped and fell off his shoulder, but Smokescreen's reflexes were great. He caught you in his other servo.
"Uh, Smokescreen? Not a good idea," Arcee watched as your whole body went rigid when the spider escaped his grip and crawled along his arm.
You screamed so loudly you might have damaged his audials, but he realised his mistake and quickly handed you to the nearest Autobot as he frantically looked all over his body, trying to locate the infernal creature. He managed to get it, but only after he sped out of the base to remove it outside, to prevent you and Miko from passing out.
When he got back, you shivered but allowed him to pick you up again, and he grinned, "I don't understand it, but if it scares you it's probably bad, right?"
You smiled.
WHEELJACK
Tumblr media
Wheeljack is pretty fearless, so you often feel intimidated by him and insecure about your own fears. You never told him about your deathly fear of arachnids, and he never asked. He assumed you were like him, not scared of anything.
That is, until today.
When he got back from a mission with Bulkhead, he immediately sought you out. Even Miko was missing, which the green Autobot found strange.
"Where's (Name) and Miko?" Wheeljack asked Raf and Jack, who were playing a racing videogame.
Jack shrugged, "Haven't seen them since we got here after school."
That was even more odd. Usually you would be here waiting for him to get back from wherever if he wasn't here. Then, moments later, a scream rang out through the base. Wheeljack recognised that as yours and took off towards the sound.
When he found you, he stopped dead.
You were running in circles around his berth, looking over your shoulder. He tried to spot what was apparently chasing you, and only did so when the thing scuttled out from behind his berth, in the direction you were headed. You screamed again and changed directions.
"What is that?" Wheeljack asked, confused on why you were so terrified.
"Spider!" You wailed, running to him and hiding behind his massive leg. "Kill it!"
He raised a big metal eyebrow, "You're scared of that tiny thing? You've faced vehicons and Dreadwing with me and that little creature is what's shaking you?"
You groaned, "I knew you would judge! Where's Bulkhead?"
"Okay, okay, no need for that," he grumbled and picked you up, setting you carefully on his shoulder before kicking the arachnid, sending the dreaded creature flying and hitting the wall. It crumpled, laying on its back and curling inwards.
"Thanks," you sighed in relief, but still looked tense. "Now get rid of it."
"It's dead."
"Dead and no less creepy!" You protested.
"Yeah, yeah." He rolled his eyes, but got rid of the dead spider. When he got back, he watched you carefully. "You good now?"
"Much better," you confirmed, but still looking like you had seen a ghost.
"Come here."
Wheeljack wasn't a cuddler, but he figured the best thing to do as your boyfriend was get in some snuggles to soothe you. And maybe, MAYBE he enjoyed it too, but Primus forbid he ever admit that out loud.
SOUNDWAVE
Tumblr media
Like Knock Out, Soundwave didn't understand how an earth creature got on the ship. And since you seemed so horrified, he concluded that you didn't bring it with you.
He was aware the second you're terrified, as predicted, so you didn't have to scream and cry for help. You just hid wherever you could, and waited for the silent Decepticon to find you.
He stopped his work to come check on you, and to deal with the cresture that was inspiring such fear. Once he's in his berthroom, it's not hard for him to locate the arachnid, and he got Laserbeak to carry it out and drop it off the Nemesis.
He then scanned his room for you, finding you in a little crevice under his berth. He coaxed you into coming out, tilting his helm as if asking why you were afraid of such a little thing.
You shivered, your eyes scanning the room before looking at him, "They're scary. Did you see how many eyes and legs it has??" You shivered again.
Soundwave patted the top of your head, comfortingly. Then he tilted his helm again, words appearing on his visor, You have been through far worse, encountering the Autobots and other Decepticons.
"I know but these things are the stuff of nightmares!" You complained. "I would rather fight any Cybertronian than be in a room with one of these again..."
He nodded in understanding, not quite understanding your logic there but there but nonetheless agreeing. Whatever made you less scared was preferred, after all, he didn't like seeing how terrified you had been.
Feeling better? Popped up on his visor.
You nodded, calming down, "Much. Thank you."
He displayed a red heart.
SHOCKWAVE
Tumblr media
Shockwave was used to dark, confined spaces with rodents and other creatures scuttling around. He had been stuck on Cybertron for years, after all. So he doesn't think much of it when an earthly creature finds its way aboard the Nemesis.
Until it starts to bother you.
He walked into his lab one day to see you on your hands and knees on his tool table, peering over the side. He instantly noticed the slight tremble of your small form, and approached you cautiously.
"What is the matter?"
You screamed and jumped despite his careful approach, turning to him with wide, frightened eyes before snapping them back to whatever was on the floor.
"There's a spider!"
"I do not understand."
You turned back to him, but your eyes flickered to the ground every so often, "These earth creatures with six eyes and eight freaky legs."
Shockwave nodded in understanding, before tilting his helm, "You are around Decepticons who are much larger than you, and coukd squash you easily, yet that tiny insignificant creature frightens you? That is illogical."
You sighed, "That thing is just creepy okay! I can handle giant Decepticons, I just can't do spiders." You shivered.
Shockwave didn't argue, going over to the bug and studying it for a second before picking it up and making his way out of the lab to get rid of it. You relaxed when it was gone, and when he came back you were lying on your back, trying to overcome your shivers.
"It is gone."
"I know, thank you," you sat up. "It just feels like smaller ones are crawling all over me."
He reached out to let you climb onto his servo, keeping you close to him to comfort you while he continued his work.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
hiccup haddock x reader
request: Hello everything is fine? I hope you are well…. I would like to say that I loved your Hiccup fic, just perfect!! And the vows… OIIIIII my heart jumped! Congratulations on your masterpieces…. and if possible, when you're better with requests… could you do something for Hiccup again? This time, maybe something where the twins, playful as they are, might want to play a prank on Hiccup, where the reader feels sick. Hence, the reader agrees to play this prank, but when the time comes, does she really feel sick? (Maybe you feel short of breath, and pass out… or, you choose, I trust you) and then a cute moment of Hiccup taking care of the reader, thank you very much!!! a/n: i'm sorry for taking soooo long. thank you for your request and i hope you like it!!
Tumblr media
Ruff and Tuff could be a pain in the ass sometimes. As much as you loved joking around with them, and their constant banter humored you, sometimes you couldn’t help but want to throw them both off the nearest cliff.
Right now, was one of those moments. You tried to block out their voices as you stitched through your charred armor, trying to repair the damage it had taken from your last ‘excursion’. However, they seemed to run on an endless supply of energy.
“Fine!” you shouted over their nagging voices. “If I agree to do this, will you leave me alone, for Thor’s sake?!”
Their response came in the shape of two identical grins, which told you all you needed to know.
That’s how you found yourself hunched over a bucket in your hut. What was supposed to be a harmless prank to Hiccup had ended up becoming your worst nightmare.
Tuff had bet Ruff that Hiccup had feelings for you, and all it took for it to be confirmed was to see you in your worst state to prove that. He would come and rescue you from your misery, and his point would be proven.
You thought it was ridiculous.
Ruff had said that to achieve your ‘most hideous state’ you had to at least smell like raw fish. At which you had started to double think your compliance in their plan. Maybe letting them annoy you wasn’t as bad as covered in fish skin.
However, by the time you realized that it was most definitely too late. The smell of fish had overwhelmed your senses and caused you to sprint out of the room before you got sick all over the place.
Much to your dismay, Hiccup had just walked in when he saw you bolt out of the room.
“What’s wrong with her?” he asked as he glanced back at you with a worried expression.
You could hear the twins trying to come up with some sort of explanation as to why you looked as if all the blood had drained out of your system. They stumbled over their words guilty, as Hiccup’s expression grew with anger. The realization dawning on him that your current state was their fault.
“What did you do to her?” he asked sternly, cutting off their rambling.
“It was just a harmless prank!” Ruff defended as she extended her arms towards your hunched figure. “She’s fine!”
“Does she look fine to you?”
You could barely hear their response as ringing sounded in your ears. Your breaths became shallow. The smell of fish overwhelming your senses completely.
You broke out in a cold sweat, but you felt incredibly suffocated. You held your hair up in a ponytail, trying to relieve yourself.
“M’fine…” you mumbled once the ringing in your ears had stopped.
Your words had been enough to silence their bantering.
“See? She’s fine!” Tuffnut nervously said to Hiccup. His voice, unusually high-pitched.
Hiccup threw a murderous glare at him, but didn’t get to give him a piece of his mind as you clumsily stumbled to your feet.
His arms instinctively flinched toward you, as he watched you stand up like you were a deer, just learning to walk.
“Maybe you should sit down for a while,” he said, carefully making his way toward you. His voice, extremely gentle.
“What? No. I’m fine. I’m good. Just got nauseous there for sec…” your words slurred into each other and before you knew it you were back on the ground again.
You couldn’t feel your legs, and all you knew was that Hiccup was staring down at you with those big brown eyes of his.
You tried to smile, but darkness took you over.
Warmth and shadows welcomed you back when you opened your eyes again.
It was like you had been completely removed from the world you had known just a moment ago. The first thing you noticed was the smell of wood, a contrasting difference from the stench of fish which made you shiver in disgust. You were wrapped in a soft cozy blanket. It looked like it had been scratchy once before, but so many years of use had worn it down to the perfect texture.
A log cracked in the hearth nearby, and the sound was enough to draw your attention to a figure seated beside you. His back was slightly hunched in the chair, head resting in his palm, elbow propped on the armrest. Hiccup looked exhausted. However, his head shot up the second you moved.
“You’re awake,” he said softly, voice thick with relief. His eyes, those warm brown eyes, studied your face with a mix of worry and something gentler intertwined.
You tried to sit up, but your arms trembled beneath you.
“Whoa, hey—easy,” he was beside you in an instant, gently pressing a hand to your lower back, to guide you back down. The simple gesture made butterflies fly in your stomach.
“You fainted. You scared the hell out of me.”
You frowned, brows drawing together. “Did I… throw up on anyone?”
His lips twitched in amusement, the concern in his expression never wavering. “No. You missed everyone by a mile. But you were burning up by the time I got you out of there.” He hesitated, then added, “You’ve been out for hours.”
You looked down at the blanket, feeling your cheeks heat for entirely different reasons now. “Guess I really sold the whole ‘sick and pitiful’ act, huh?”
His brows drew together in confusion. “Wait—this was a prank?”
You groaned, covering your face with one hand. “Ruff and Tuff thought if I looked like I was on death’s doorstep, it would somehow confirm that you had feelings for me.”
You were mortified. “They kept pestering me until I agreed. But if I had known their plan had included me being covered in fish guts, I would never have said yes.”
He was quiet for a long moment. You dared a peek through your fingers. He looked conflicted.
“Gods…” you whispered. “I’m so sorry. This was so stupid.”
Then, unexpectedly, he smiled—just a small, private curve of his lips.
“Well,” he said slowly, sitting back on the edge of the chair. “They weren’t completely wrong.”
Your heart skipped. “Wait, what?”
His eyes met yours. “Maybe not the way they went about it… but I was ready to throw them both into the ocean the second I saw you collapse. I—I was scared. I thought something was seriously wrong. I care about you. A lot.”
You stared at him.
He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. “So… yeah. Next time, maybe just talk to me instead of dousing yourself in fish guts?”
You stared at him in disbelief. A breathless laugh escaping your throat. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
There was a pause, warm and gentle, before Hiccup reached down to tuck the blanket more securely around your shoulders.
“Get some rest,” he murmured. “After that we can throw them off a cliff together. Yeah?”
“Is that a promise?”
“I’ll wait for you.”

'Elastic Heart.'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/n: Haven't been able to finish this for a while lol, I started it one day and then got super busy after 😭 BUT HERE IT IS 💁🏼‍♀️
Warnings(?): none, just some angst, sort of 🌚. It's more on Hiccup's part though.
Hiccup x !Fem! Reader
Comfort on a rainy day is like a bowl of warm stew, which you offered to Hiccup.
Tumblr media
The cold weather was always something you've grown accustomed to, no matter how much it constantly pricked at your skin with frigid gushes of wind that remained ever present within the isle of Berk. The summers were short, something you vaguely opposed, but there could be no possible way of changing how the climate operated.
So, it came as a minor surprise when it started raining today.
The winter season showed no lenity, like usual, but having it rain during the gelid period that was over Berk only seemed to heighten the unpleasant temperature which permeated it.
Thankfully, you were sitting tight and cozy in your hut, having just served yourself a nice bowl of mutton stew with a content sigh. The warmth which diffused from the fireplace saturated the room, bringing you a fleeting comfort that you weren't stuck outside needing to do extra work.
Just as you were about to take the long awaited bite of your soup, you managed to catch the sound of a pair of footsteps scuffling near your door – heavy, trudging steps that were mingled with the sound of...metal clanking against the ground.
Before you could dive deeper into your assumptions of who it was in front of your hut, they knocked, loud and boldly.
You heaved a sigh.
Begrudgingly rising from your seat, you shuffled towards the door, practicality dragging your feet there as your hand slowly edged the door open, peeking through the crack that was now visible to see who disturbed your moment of peace. You did a double take once you registered who exactly it was.
‘It is him..!’
Abruptly losing any sluggishness you had on your way to the entrance, you swung the door completely open and gawked at the Chief's son with a bewildered furrow of your brows. "Hiccup? What in Thor's name are you doing here?! It's raining!"
The young man in question merely shrugged, auburn hair glued onto his forehead and plastered down from being drenched in water. "Yeah, I noticed... So, uh...do you think I can..come in..?" He immediately seemed to regret what he said, rubbing the back of his neck as he found his boot more important to look at. "I-I mean, sorry, this is probably really unexpected, I just—"
The rest of his jumbled apology started to fade away, your gaze attentively scanning him over to observe him shivering in the slightest. And you also acknowledged Toothless who stood behind him, watching his rider in a concerned and puzzled manner, similar to how you probably appeared. It was obvious they've been outside for longer than they should have, and they needed to get warm.
As soon as possible.
You held up a hand, motioning for your friend to stop his fretting. "O-okay, okay, I get it... It's fine, just...get inside. You're going to get sick if you stay out here..!"
Hiccup glanced at you, startled by how swift you were in accepting his request, only to be lightly nudged by Toothless – a silent command to listen to your instructions. "Oh, uh, right – inside, yup." He hesitantly stepped in the hut, glimpsing around the place while you hastily went to retrieve some cloths to help him dry off his hair.
His eyes flickered over to the Night Fury beside him, silently questioning if he did the right thing or not. His only response from the dragon was a mere shake of his head, as though he didn't understand what was being implied.
You came back quicker than anticipated, a bundle of fabric in your hands while you spoke lowly, somewhat of a mutter. "Seriously, you better not get sick... Out here in the rain like there's not a problem in the world.." You gave him the cloths, which he gladly took, as you continued: "Dare I ask how long you've been outside?"
The supposed ‘Great Dragon Master’ before you shrugged, drying off his hair as you did the same to parts of his face. "Not long, trust me–"
"Pft. You said that last time."
He carried on as though you didn't mention anything. "We were coming back and it started raining."
You raised a brow, not fully satisfied with his answer. "Why are you soaking wet as if you've been dancing in the rain for all I know, then?"
Hiccup did his best to pat down his armor, drying what he could until both of your eyes met. "Don't worry. I'm telling the truth! You'd be surprised by how quickly one can get drenched just being outside on Berk for a couple of minutes while it's raining!"
"You say that like I haven't lived here my whole life."
He shrugged for the second time, rubbing the cloth against his auburn tufts. "Well, you talk like you didn't already know th–" His words were abruptly forced to an end as you purposefully ‘dried off’ his mouth, muffling him to prevent him from finishing the sentence.
You ignored the deadpan look he gave, taking a step away with an appeased nod. "There. You should be good now." You gestured towards the pot of soup you had made. "Want some mutton stew? It's fresh." Not completely waiting on a ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ you went to grab another bowl and spoon, serving him a decent amount as you beckoned him to come closer to the fireplace.
"Here. It'll help you get warmer faster." Your hands carefully laid the bowl in his grasp, intently watching as he mumbled a ‘thank you’ and began to eat. Of course, since you didn't hide the fact that you were staring, it only took a few meager seconds for him to raise his brows at you, silently inquiring why you were doing such a thing.
"Hm? Do I...got something on my face? Or..?"
You lightly shook your head, dragging your sight's focus onto your own stew. "No...but.." Pausing to take a bite, you kept your gaze on the fireplace. "...What made you go out there anyways? Just...curious.."
Hearing him sigh, you had an inkling as to what might've happened. It didn't come as a shocker when he ventured off with Toothless somewhere, unannounced. However, the reasonings for it could be different every time — almost.
"I'm sure you probably understand why.." He spoke quietly, as if he were afraid to disturb anyone else in the hut. Quite frankly, he didn't need to; your family barely went to the Great Hall, deciding to spend the evening alongside everyone else who may have been in there.
You hummed, appearing to contemplate the motive. "Does it involve a certain Chief of Berk and his son?"
Hiccup wryly pointed at you, a dry smile tracing his lips. "That's the winning answer..!"
You chuckled, glancing in his direction as you became more sincere. "...Well? What's going on now?"
Suddenly, he looked a bit reluctant to share, aimlessly shifting in his spot next to you. "It's nothing important. Just the usual...Chiefly lessons and what not.."
"Ah, so you ran away from it again?"
"You know it isn't like that.."
"Hiccup." You muttered, pointedly watching as he turned his focus onto the flames which crackled in front of you both. "I've known you since we were kids. There's no point in trying to hide it..."
"..Well obviously I can't hide anything from you.." He muttered back, suppressing a grin when you groaned dramatically. "Joking, I'm joking.."
"Why do you always have to joke when it comes to this?" You rubbed your face partly in irritation, while another side of you remained quite fond and amused at what he said.
"Oh, you know me.." He sighed again, the faint smile on his lips beginning to drift off into a delicate frown. "That's the usual way I take things, I guess."
His comment made you turn towards him, brows furrowed in a rising concern. You've been friends with him long enough to understand that, in most serious cases, he wouldn't completely throw it away into a sarcastic remark. Sure, he had his wits that could emerge in any arriving moment, but he wasn't one to utterly disregard a situation in an insouciant manner.
"Hiccup.." The name slowly fell from your lips, the genuineness of your tone sounding as an alarm to escape a slumber he didn't know he was in. "What happened, seriously?"
All you received was the obscure noise of him fidgeting with the spoon, aimlessly stirring the soup. It took him a prolonged minute to deliver a coherent response, still not meeting your attentive gaze as his words became identical to a mumble: "I just don't think I'm ready..."
He shifted in his spot for the second time in vain, struggling to maintain his composure while he turned his head to settle his focus on Toothless — an excuse to hide his distress. The Night Fury, who had been laying next to him, trilled lowly in concern for his best friend, glancing at you in a way that showed his worry. "Y'know...you think you're ready for something, but then you take one look at it and then...you just.."
Not being able to continue, Hiccup set the bowl down with a quivering hand that was hardly noticeable if someone were to look at him from afar.
You, however, were close to him in that moment. And you used that as an advantage.
Not caring where you placed your bowl, you quickly shifted towards his direction so you sat in front of him. He consequently lowered his head in order to prevent you catching him near an utter breakdown. "Hiccup, listen to me." You gently murmured, "You're gonna do great as Chief, despite what you may think–"
"That's what my dad says too, but it's a little challenging to believe that." He grumbled, hastily wiping his eyes.
"I mean what I say." Your voice became firm enough to make the statement obvious, keeping your attention on him alone. "It's a lot to bear, I know–" at that, he weakly shook his head, but you continued nonetheless, "yet, look at far you've come! I mean, you can't sit there and ignore everything you've accomplished in the last five years! Stoick sees the potential that's inside of you and he made the decision to have you as the future Chief for a reason. He didn't just do it on a whim."
"But can someone like me really lead people who thought I was–" His speech was cut off by none other than himself, toiling against the emotions which threatened to burst out in the form of tears. Alas, he wouldn't cry like that in your presence; he predicted it would cause you to be a lot more worried than you and Toothless already appeared. Not that he couldn't, rather, he preferred not to bring additional fret when it was in his power to do so.
"...Who thought I was a failure." He finished, green eyes meeting yours at last. You kept quiet, having an impression that he would carry on, which he soon did. "Everyone always...watched...watched what I was gonna do next to be a screwup again. That pressure would definitely be...a lot, to put it in fewer words, if I were Chief."
Hiccup's somber gaze landed on Toothless, grateful for the comforting expression the dragon gave him. He expected you to say something in the meantime, persuade him into thinking he could be ‘the best Chief in the world’ and other motivational remarks that was supposed to make him happier. Your silence on the subject became the reason he slowly glanced back at you, shrugging in a questioning manner. "...What..?"
You lightly shook your head, a near intangible smile climbing onto your lips as you copied him and shrugged too. "Nothing. I'm only wondering why you..assume you can't lead because of what people have said about you in the past." His brows creased at that, puzzled. You rolled your eyes in return. "Don't you know you're already a leader, Hiccup?"
The future Chief blinked, looking as though the mutton stew left a bad taste in his mouth. Groaning in a vexation that was entirely fake, you patted his hand, intentionally keeping your sight on him. "You're already a leader." You repeated, "All the things you've done for Berk these past years, bringing peace between us and dragons, risking your life multiple times, and what happened on the Edge? There's clear evidence that you have the capability to be Chief. In actuality, think of it as another word for a leader. That's it."
You retracted your hand, the action not very enjoyable for him, and your smile grew. "See what I'm trying to get at? You are that leader, Hiccup. There's no point in fighting it."
His disagreement visibly showed, indicating his reluctance to accept it. "Being a Chief and a leader of a small group are two very different things–"
"Ah, what a muttonhead you are.."
"Oh, geez, thanks. That really helped." He muttered, pretending to stand but immediately stopped when you snorted and pulled him down, accidentally bringing him closer to you than where he sat before.
"I'm kidding..! Sort of.." You mumbled the last part, not yet realizing the short space between the both of you. "Plus, you can't leave yet! You haven't even finished your food!" Your expression molded into a slight pout, showing you were completely joking.
Hiccup breathed out a dramatic sigh, shaking his head as he brushed a hand through his hair and kept his gaze on the floor. "Seriously..." He paused, very briefly, "Can I really lead like my dad does..? It just looks...impossible."
You pondered on his question, humming in assiduous consideration of what to say back. "..I think you won't be the exact same, no. But that's a good thing. You are your own person, and I know for a fact that you'll be able to step into the role of Chief with everything Stoick taught you in your own Hiccup way. Plus, you won't be alone — not really. You have Toothless, me, and the others. We won't let you drown in whatever stress it may bring either, so there's no need to worry about that part."
The young, persevering, yet slightly self-doubting man took in your words, his countenance emerging in a revived reassurance like the rising of the dawn, a fragile smile starting its journey of arriving onto his lips once more. "I sure hope you do.." He chuckled quietly, glimpsing at your relieved features. "Well, I guess it helps ease my conscience a little knowing that Snotlout wouldn't be leading an entire tribe.."
"Even better a reason for you to be Chief!" You snorted, doing your best to contain your laughter, "You'll be saving us all by not letting him be in a position like that..!"
Just then, you became aware of the nearness which had been created in the midst of you two, causing your heart to jump at the unexpected proximity as you shifted away, although it wasn't conspicuous enough to be pointed out by him. "..Anyways," You carefully reached for his bowl, suddenly a bit nervous, "You should probably finish your mutton stew or else–"
The speech you formed didn't have the opportunity to finish, mainly because Hiccup moved forward and lightly pecked your cheek, forever silencing you — at least for that split second. You reminded yourself of the bowl you held, leaving you utterly defenseless as an abrupt warmth clothed your face, adorning it in a rich cerise shade.
What gave the future Chief the boldness and confidence to do such a thing, he didn't have one clue, but as he allowed his eyes to rest on you for the second time, he came to terms with what he actually did. Your eyes were widened, mouth slightly gaped, and you appeared to be struggling to grasp the dish.
'Oh, Gods..!'
"I-I, uh, well, thank you so much for..everything, yeah–" Hiccup stuttered, hastily grabbing the vessel out of your shaking clutches, "Me and Toothless should probably, uh, get going..now...because..you know, i-it's late.. I-I, uh, I'm sorry–" He nearly tripped as he stood, using the Night Fury to prevent another accident. "Woops — uh, yeah! We'll be leaving now. Talk to you tomorrow...morning..?" He tacitly asked, even in the middle of his embarrassment.
You were staring off into space, remaining in the same spot as you weakly nodded and offered a thumbs up, "Y-yeah...tomorrow...morning.."
He sheepishly grinned in return, clearing his throat and hesitating to speak about the short kiss, but decided to leave it for...tomorrow. So, with that, he rushed to the door, mutton stew and all, shutting the door as quick as he could.
It had been a few minutes until you were able to physically move, blinking in the pure astonishment of Hiccup's actions. "..huh.." Your hand slowly touched the part of your cheek where he had kissed, being welcomed by the sensation of flushed skin while you glanced at your dish of food .
You chortled.
"He'll have to give my bowl back tomorrow anyways.."

👁👁 I'm the anon that asked for a silent/non-talker reader fic with hiccup many many moons ago, but if you still write for him, could it be with a prompt where reader's still not much of a talker on some days but would like to still passionately communicate, therefore inventing a sort of sign language system with hiccup under gothi's supervision, and maybe put in a bit about how stoick knows of their relationship (i visited this hole of fondness in my brain again, forgive me)
a/n: dearest anon. I am so sorry for gettin back to you so late. I haven't been writing much lately, but your request helped me sort of rekindle my love for it. I've been spending way to much time on my phone instead of doing the things I like. I'll try to put out more writing. i'm sorry if the ending is a bit janky, im a little out of practice. also, i don't know much about asl, so i apologize for any mistakes. thank you for your request!

Sweetest of Melodies (pt. 2)
pt. 1
Tumblr media
The sound of soft humming flooded the room. You were so focused on the soft lulling sound that came from your throat that you were unaware that the place had gone quiet. When you did, however, you found that all eyes were on you, making you retract your head into your shoulders as the signs of embarrassment appeared on your face. You silently reached out for Hiccup’s hand in order to seek some sort of comfort.
‘Sorry’, you wanted to say, but your words failed you at the moment. You had come a long way since allowing yourself to speak more freely in front of the riders. That didn’t mean that you were still totally comfortable with letting yourself be heard. Instead, you liked being able to hear yourself better; that’s what most of your words were meant for anyway. For you to hear them.
“You should sing more often,” Astrid said as if it was no big deal. You appreciated her nonchalant attitude, it made you feel less judged. You knew the riders didn’t have bad intentions, it was probably still a little strange to hear you make a sound, which prompted their current reaction. But years of overthinking made you jump to the worst possible scenario, even if you knew it wasn’t true.
In return you offered her a shy smile. Hiccup sensed your discomfort and did his best to steer the conversation away from you whilst giving your hand a small squeeze.
Later that night it occurred to him that whilst you were somewhat comfortable speaking to him, it was still a big step for you to accommodate to this while having been mute for years.
He was visibly stressed as he realized that some of your relationship’s problems might stem from that. You weren’t used to communicating with anyone. Anyone besides Gothi.
That’s how Hiccup found himself knocking at your front door one early morning. Gothi opened the door, as he knew she would and assuming that he was looking for you (like he often did), she quickly signaled to him that you had gone to collect some items you had run out of.
“Actually. I’m here to see you”, he explained with a nervous smile.
Gothi seemed surprised for a brief moment before inviting him inside.
Awkwardly, Hiccup made his way inside and found a stool to sit on. He watches as Gothi -much like you did whenever he came to visit- occupied herself with making tea.
Once the tea was on the table, and she had poured a cup for him as well as one for herself, she stared at him patiently.
He took that as his sign to talk, and set the cup down after having had a sip. “I need your help,” he stated rather obviously.
The small woman raised her eyebrow before signing your name in the form of a question.
“Yes,” Hiccup confirmed. “I just-” he sighed as he rubbed the back of his neck. “She’s come so far with speaking out more, and she’s doing great, but…I’ve just now realized that while she’s making all this effort, I don’t seem to be doing anything to understand her better.”
Gothi’s gaze softened.
“She tries so hard, all the time; to understand me, and help me understand her, I just feel as if it’s about time I did the same for her.”
Silence settled between them as Gothi took another sip of her tea before hopping off the stool she was sitting on and staggering off to one of her many shelves.
“I guess, I was wondering if you could help me. Understand her better, I mean-”
Not a second later a small book was slammed on the table. Hiccup jumped slightly, marveling at the frail woman’s strength.
Upon further inspection he realized it was not a book but rather a journal. Littered with drawings of different hand signs and gestures and their respective meanings. Dust covered its pages, indicating how long it had been since someone opened it last.
Hiccup looked up at Gothi with admiration. “You made this?”
The woman shook her head and flicked back to the first page where your name had been scribbled down neatly.
He chuckled as he stared down at the journal, “this is amazing.”
She nodded proudly. She had been the one to help you come up with this communication method, it had been your idea of course- but as the both of you developed it it made your bond grow stronger. She considered it to be hers as much as yours.
Hiccup carefully tucked the journal away and stood up. Enthusiastically, he gave Gothi a quick kiss on the cheek and thanked her before bolting out of the house.
‘Good luck’, she signed as she watched the young man ride away on his dragon.
Tumblr media
Hiccup was determined. His presence amongst the dragonriders had become sparse. When he wasn’t training or helping out in the forge, he was most likely practicing his signing skills. Even then, work seemed to come second to his newfound hobby.
He found himself practicing with Toothless, as he signed him orders receiving a confused tilt of the dragon’s head in return. He stole moments in the forge, his hands mimicking the signs in between hammering metal; his usual rambling also appeared to be accompanied by matching signs. Even during dragon races, he would move his fingers in the air absentmindedly, his mind working through the motions while Astrid gave him odd glances.
You, on the other hand, had no idea what was going on. His absence was more palpable as the days went on. He still greeted you, still sent you small smiles and the occasional kiss when you crossed paths, but your moments together felt shorter. Less frequent. He always had somewhere to rush off to. Places to go, people to see, things he needed to do.
At first, you didn’t think much of it—Hiccup was the chief’s son, after all. He had responsibilities.
But as the days stretched into weeks, your nervousness grew.
Had you done something wrong? Was he getting tired of having to put up with you? Maybe it was too much effort, too exhausting. Maybe he had realized that words were easier. Someone else would be easier…
The thought made your stomach twist uncomfortably.
You tried to push the thought away, but doubt seemed to creep into every corner of your mind.
You found yourself slipping into old habits. Speaking less often and keeping to yourself. You had stopped going to the forge to keep Hiccup company while he did his work.
Maybe he needed space.
Astrid had taken notice of this change, trying her best to include you in whatever plan the dragon riders were currently in the midst of. Whether it was a trip to a nearby island or just having lunch together near the cliffside.
One afternoon as you took residence in the Great Hall while grinding herbs, you felt a presence approach you. Hiccup strode in, and you quickly averted your gaze as you focused on the task at hand.
“Where have you been?” he asked lightheartedly as his arms snaked around your waist and he pulled you closer.
You smiled nervously and just shrugged your shoulders.
“My dad's been asking for you. You don’t come by the forge anymore,” he continued as he nestled his head on your shoulder, pressing your back to him.
“Just busy,” you replied curtly.
He noticed how your hands seemed to accompany your words now. One of them laid flat, with your palm looking downwards whilst the other stood vertically and moved side to side in a repetitive motion.
‘Busy’.
He hadn’t noticed that before. But now that he thought about it, your hands were always moving. You had been talking to yourself all along, in silence.
“I need to tell you something,” he said then, as he took a step back. His arms leaving your waist. You immediately missed the contact.
Your mind immediately jumped to the worst conclusion.
Hiccup's hands flexed and unflexed at his sides and his shoulders did that shaky thing they did whenever he had a lot on his mind.
‘Leaving,’ you signed to yourself as you placed down the pestle.
His face turned into that of confusion, as his right hand mimicked what yours had just done.  ‘Leave?’
“What? No,” he mumbled, his eyebrows furrowed. ‘I miss you’
Your mind had been too slow to realize what was happening. “What?”
‘I miss you’ he signed again. This time followed by an ‘i love you’.
Your breath caught in your throat as a gasp escaped your lips.
His movements were slightly jumbled, not as smooth as yours or Gothi’s were. But the message was there clear as day. He was talking to her, with no words.
You stared at him for a long moment before finally reaching out, your fingers trembling as they brushed against his.
“I miss you too,” you replied. “So much.”
Hiccup grabbed your hand and pulled you in before sweeping you off your feet for a kiss.
“What did you mean ‘leave’?” he asked with a slight chuckle as he pressed a tender kiss to your neck.
Your face flushed, immediately embarrassed for your self-deprecating thoughts. You tried to hide your face in the crook of his neck but he moved his head to search for your eyes.
“Don’t tell me you thought I wanted to leave you,” he said, though the statement came out more as a question.
“I’m sorry!” you said as you buried your head in his chest. “You just had been spending less time with me, and I thought you were getting tired of having to deal with me.”
Hiccup pulled back slightly, his eyes searching yours. “Hey, don’t say that,” he whispered. “I could never get tired of you. I just—I wanted to learn. I wanted to understand you the way you understand me.”
You smiled up at him, adoration clear on your face. You stepped back and raised your hand slightly.
‘I love you too’.

Sweetest of Melodies
pt. 2
Life at Berk was hectic from the early moments in which sunlight touched the earth, until the moon was at its highest point. You, however, remained a little more calm in your way of going about your day. This could be due to the fact that you weren’t exactly from around here, the viking lifestyle was not something that was properly yours. You don’t exactly remember when or how you arrived at Berk, but your mother -or the closest thing you had to one- made sure you didn’t forget where you came from.
“Roots are important to flourish,” she had said one late night, while you were helping her make a mixture of herbs of some kind. Gothi was a quiet woman, however, when she did talk, you could expect a wise spew of words of some kind, or simple nonsensical mumbling. This was a habit you had picked up yourself, and as the years went by, your voice could be heard less. Nowadays you only spoke when you were alone with Gothi, by yourself or when you felt you most absolutely needed to.
You supposed it did bring you some relief to know that there was a reason for your differences. So, you didn’t mind being unlike the other young vikings in some aspects.
Dragons was one thing you had in common, but while they were unafraid to ride straight into battle or go on spontaneous missions, you preferred taking care of them from the ground. You were a keen observer, and had started to fill up notebooks with annotations and drawings of your scaly friends.
You did wish you could be like them though, in the sense that they were brave and bold. You often fantasized what it must be like to fly a dragon, and what it would be like to be a part of the team of dragon riders. Maybe that way you could have an excuse to get closer to a certain brown-haired, green-eyed boy.
As you finished the last details of one of your mother’s various Terrible Terrors, she had come up to you while offering an empty basket with just a few dry leaves in the corner. You stood up, putting your materials aside and took a leaf in between your fingers, while rubbing it and bringing it up to your nose.
‘We’re running out of mugwort’
“Mugwort it is,” you said as you took the basket from her boney hands and gave her a goodbye kiss. “I’ll be back before supper.”
Gothi offered you a small smile and waved you goodbye.
---------------------------------------------------------------
You loved your job, however, it could be time consuming, and sometimes frustrating. Like right now.
You had left your basket in the ground to look for the mugwort. Unfortunately, there didn’t appear to be a lot of it, so you had to thread deeper into he woods, and the bushes for that matter, to get the smallest amounts of the damned herb.
“Stupid plant,” you muttered to yourself as you emerged from within the shrubbery with barely a handful of it. You quickly threw it in the basket and started to prick out the thorns that had inserted themselves into your arms.
As you were occupied with your current predicament, you didn’t notice the presence of another person that had made it’s way into the forest, drawn by the sound of your bickering.
It wasn’t until they cleared their throat that your attention was drawn to them.
With a light jump, you turned to face them, only to be found with the chief’s son: Hiccup Haddock along with his trusty companion Toothless.
Your eyes went wide and you froze, like a deer in headlights.
“Uh… I-I’m sorry,” said Hiccup. “You just seemed…occupied. And I didn’t want to scare you.”
‘Yes, well, I don’t think that worked out,’ you thought. However you just offered him a shy glance before returning to your thorn-infested arm.
“Let me help with that,” Hiccup said as he approached you and without previous warning took you arm. “So, you’re Gothi’s daughter, right?” he asked, not lifting his view from your arm
A nod was all you offered him as a reply, you had started fidgeting with your free hand now; you hadn’t thought that this was how today was going to go: deep in the woods with the boy you had been admiring from a distance ever since you arrived to Berk.
Hiccup chuckled, before taking out a thorn, causing you to hiss. “The woman loves you,” he said. “I know she’s not particularly vocal, but believe me, she does.”
Your cheeks tinted a slights shade of red, as you heard his words. You didn’t know what to answer to that so you didn’t.
After a silent moment, Hiccup spoke again. “I have to ask, I’ve seen you around and I’ve seen the bond you have with dragons. Why don’t you join the dragon riders?
Your flustered state didn’t diminish at his questioning. Would he think you’re pathetic if you told him you had never ridden a dragon? Instead you opted for the safest option: not saying anything at all.
Hiccup seemed to get the message despite your silence. “You’ve never flied before, have you?”
You shook your head.
“Why?”
You shrugged and averted your eyes. Truth was, you just thought you would eventually get to it, but you never did.
“That changes today,” Hiccup said with a beaming smile. You could tell he was as passionate as you were for dragons, if not even more so, for he had more expertise in the practical area.
Your eyes went wide once again as you shook your head vigorously.
He didn’t say anything, and instead mounted Toothless. Amongst your talking you hadn’t realized you were now free of thorns thanks to the brown-haired boy.
“Toothless and I are taking you for a ride,” he finally said when he was strapped in.
Before you could give him any reason as to why this was a terrible idea, you had already been swooped up by the night fury and were now desperately grabbing on to Hiccup’s waist.
“Hold on!” he shouted through the wind.
‘I’m trying!’ you though as you tightly closed your eyes.
Suddenly, you came to a steady halt. You could feel a soft breeze blowing through your hair, and pleasantly cooling your face.
“You can open your eyes now,” Hiccup said.
You did so, and your breath was knocked out of your lungs. You were flying above the clouds, and being presence to one of the most beautiful sunsets you had ever seen in your life. The reds and pinks and yellows, blended together to make the most perfect painting.
It was completely and utterly beautiful.
---------------------------------------------------------------
After your interaction with Hiccup, you made your best effort to avoid him. That meant keeping mostly to yourself in Gothi’s hut and preparing the salves and mixtures of herbs that were so often needed in Berk.
You had decided to keep admiring the dragon riders form a distance, even if you couldn’t stop thinking about that day with Hiccup. Flying with him had awoken something in you that seemed to have been dormant for far too long.
The times you did go out of your hut was to cheer them on from the shadows in the dragon races, or to send them off to missions.
You had decided that you could not let Hiccup know about what you felt for him, even if it was eating you from the inside.
Your thoughts were interrupted by a voice outside your home.
“If you don’t go in there and confront her, I will,” a female voice whispered rather harshly.
“I really don’t think this is a good idea Astrid.”
“Well, it’s a good thing you don’t get paid for thinking then.”
At the sound of his name, you panicked slightly, but not much could be done, for not a moment later a knock on the door was heard.
“(Y/N)?”
You stood completely still, hoping that he would go away.
“(Y/N) I know you’re there. Gothi told us. I just want to talk.”
You sighed and silently cursed your mother before opening the door.
In front of you stood Astrid and Hiccup. The blonde girl stood with a friendly smile plastered on her face as she waved at you. You waved back shyly.
Hiccup however, appeared to be in a more serious mood.
“Can we talk? Please.”
‘Funny’ you thought.
You held on to the door, as if it was providing you with a life line. You didn’t want to talk, you were not good at talking. But your body seemed to disagree with your thoughts as you nodded.
Astrid patted Hiccup in the back before leaving.
You opened the door a little wider after an awkward a moment of silence had passed between the both of you, signaling to him that he was welcome in.
As soon as he stepped into your home, you occupied yourself with making tea.
“Why are you avoiding me?” he said as he sat on the table.
You froze, vikings did tend to be blunt.
How were you supposed to reply to that?
Hiccup suddenly took out his notebook. He slid it across the table and tapped the piece of wood he uses to write with to catch your attention before rolling it over so you could use it.
‘Not avoiding you’, you wrote.
“Yes you are. I just want to know why. Did I do something wrong? Because if I did, tell me, I can fix it. Or- or I can just leave you alone if that’s what you want.”
You tapped the piece of paper once again as a response to his question.
“Then what is going on?”
You picked up his notebook and quickly scribbled a single word down.
‘Tea?’
Hiccup sighed in frustration “(Y/N), please…”
‘I think you’re amazing and I probably might have developed a crush on you. And you taking me on that ride made me feel so alive, and I probably won’t ever feel that way again.’
‘I don’t know what you want me to say Haddock.’
“At least you’re using my last name now,” he said standing as he paced around angrily.
‘What’s that supposed to mean?’
“I’ll tell you what it’s supposed to mean (Y/N). I haven’t stopped thinking about you ever since I saw you that day in the forest. I have spend every day since then trying to pin you down and talk to you again or something, but you have gone out of your way to avoid me. I know you aren’t fond of talking, I understand that and I will not force you to do anything you’re not comfortable with. But now that I found you, you can’t even look me in the eyes. It’s maddening.”
You were left speechless.
“This was not a good idea,” he said as he made his way to the door. “I’ll leave you alone now, I’m sorry to bother yo-”
“I like you Hiccup,” you said in a low voice. It wasn’t big or showstopping, but it was something. It was a start, and if you where being honest, it was a sentence that you never thought would’ve left your lips if it hadn’t come to this.
He stopped in his tracks. “What?”
“I like you Hiccup,” you repeated, in a louder voice this time.
You have never heard a silence quite this loud before.
He turned to face you, disbelief plastered on his face. A tentative smile wanted to break through his lips. “Say it again, will you? My name. Please,” he said as he approached you and softly placed his hand on your cheek.
“Hiccup,” you whispered.
He kissed you.
And just like that, you felt as if you were on Toothless watching that sunset all over again. It was breathtaking.
“Again,” he pleaded.
“Hiccup,” you repeated louder this time with a small smile breaking through.
Another kiss.
“Again.”
“Hiccup.”
Kiss.
He laughed, his eyes glimmering with happiness.
“I like you too (Y/N).”
This time the kiss lasted a little longer than the previous ones had.
When you broke the kiss, he looked down at you with the most precious smile you’d ever seen.
“Hiccup,” you said, this time without him asking, a soft giggle accompanied the word.
Another kiss.
And as the cycle repeated itself again an again, you thought to yourself that maybe, just maybe, talking wasn’t so bad after all. Not if this was the outcome.

Hello. Imagine like Hiccup and fem reader are dating already about 1 year. Hiccup is a little bit insecure of his body, there are so many massive guys around, and he thinks he looks not good with his skinny body, so he starts training just for her. But she already thinks he looks great with his body. Some story based on this? Reader has night fury too, and she is Gobber's daughter, if it's important for your story. Thank you!
hi dear reader! thank you for requesting. i hope you enjoy this. let me know what you think <3

Better
Dating Hiccup Haddock was great. It came with its ups and downs like any relationship did, however the ups greatly outweighed the downs. The boy was one of the most caring and thoughtful persons you’ve ever met. Sometimes though, that selflessness that characterized him so well could become a weapon to himself.
Recently, he had been acting weird. He had begun to train separately from the rest of the dragon riders and usually ran off to the gods know where. This had been going on for a few weeks now, and it had seemed to start a few days after you celebrated your first-year anniversary.
Concerned for your boyfriend, you decided to talk about it to someone who had known him and his quirks since he was a wee lad: your dad.
“I don’t know what to tell you lass,” Gobber said as he pulled down the rope for the anti-fire system to work. “The boy has been a weird one ever since he was in the cradle.”
“Dad, but this is different. I know it!” you insisted. “He is always tired, he doesn’t train with us anymore, and he’s barely around. Has he said anything to you?”
Gobber brought up his prosthetic arm up to his chin, which at the moment had a wooden spoon hooked on, he seemed deep in thought for a short moment before speaking out a decisive short answer: ”no”.
You sighed as you decided to take this into your own hand. you were going to find that boy if that was the last thing you’d do. You immediately mounted your Night Furry, (Y/D), and flew up to see if you could spot Hiccup somewhere.
After a few hours of flying, and having no success in finding your boyfriend, you decided to rest, for your sake and the sake of (Y/D). As you landed on a clearing in the forest you sighed and dismounted your dragon, “That boy is going to be the death of me,” you hissed as you rubbed (Y/D)’s head.
(Y/D) let out a soft growl, indicating her pleasure and plopped to the ground.
“Rest girl, you deserve it.” Not a moment had passed since the words left your lips and a rustling sound deeper into the forest made her head shoot up. She immediately leaped and dived into the bushes.
“Wait!” you called out as you followed the Night Furry.
When you finally caught up to (Y/D), you had run out of breath, “You…You c-aan’t do that!” you protested as you leaned on her.
She bellowed in a mocking way and just leaped forward, making you fall in your arse.
“Hey!” you whinned, and you would’ve keep on protesting if the words hadn’t died in your throat when you saw the boy you have been looking for all morning standing in front of you with his dragon. “Hiccup?!”
“H-Hi! (Y/N)!” he said with an awkward smile as he shoved an iron chain and ball behind him.
“W-What? What are you doing here?” Hiccup asked as his voice seemed to go an octave higher.
“I should be the one asking that question!” you replied as you plucks out the leaves from your hair. “I’ve been looking for you all day!”
“Well, here I am!” he said, flailing his arms around like he so often did. “So, you can go now!”
“Wait!” you said, dodging him as he tried to push you away. “Tell me what’s going on.”
“Going on? Nothing! Nothing is going on! W-Why would you think that?” he protested, scratching the back of his neck.
“Hic, I love you. But you’re an awful liar.”
He sighed in defeat and just allowed himself to fall onto the ground. You furrowed your eyebrows at his actions and joined him by laying on the ground.
“Can you tell me what’s wrong?”
“You’ll think it’s stupid.”
You supported yourself on your elbows and glanced at hime before sitting up completely. “I won’t.”
You scooted closer to him so that his hair was within easy access and started braiding a strand.
“You promise?”
“I promise.”
Hiccup sighed once again and pressed his palms to his eyes while letting out a groan. “Well, ever since our anniversary, I’ve been thinking-”
“Well, that’s never good.”
Hiccup glared at you.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry. I’m serious now.”
“I’ve been thinking,” he resumed, “about how you’re wonderful and all. And how you probably deserve better. I want to be better. For you.”
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, you didn’t know where this was going.
“And then I thought, that you don’t just deserve better. You deserve the best, and maybe…just maybe, you’d be better off with a proper viking. Since you know…that’s the best Berk can offer. And you know how vikings are supposed to be,” he continued as he puffed up his chest and lowered his voice, “big and bulky and strong. And I’m nothing of that, so I’ve been here everyday…trying to change that.”
“Hiccup,” you started, the beginning of what appeared to be laughter laced your voice.
“Ah! I knew you would think it’s stupid!” he said, sitting up.
You hugged him from behind and burrowed your chin in the crook of his neck, “Hiccup, hear me out.”
After he remained silent, and you deemed it appropriate for you to continue you spoke again.
“I’m afraid you’re right. You have completely lost it, I think this is one of the most stupid things you’ve done.”
“Thanks, (Y/N), that’s very reassuring,” he said sarcastically as he glanced at you.
“You don’t have to change anything about yourself Hiccup. I don’t love you because of your body, I love you because of who you are; in here,” you said as you pressed your hand to his chest.
“But-”
“But nothing Hiccup. I don’t know who or what gave you that idea, but you can tell them to fuck off, because they are wrong. And if it was Snotlout, I swear-”
Hiccup laughed and kissed your cheek. “No, it was not Snotlout, you can allow him to live one more day.”
A moment of silence passed between you two. “I love you (Y/N),” Hiccup said as he turned his body to face you.
“I love you too Hiccup Haddock. And for the record, I think you are very attractive, buff or not” you said bluntly.
Hiccup chuckled once again before leaning down and pressing his lips to yours. There wasn’t a greater feeling than this.

Hi! Your stories are very cute so far ❤️ I was wondering if I could request something for Hiccup? I was thinking a reader who’s scared of dragons and Hiccup helps her by having toothless spend time with them, and because they take it slow they spend a lot of time together. I think it would be very cute if the pair of them were helping the reader overcome her fear while Hiccup is also falling for her. Thank you! xx

✎ Being afraid of dragons while living on an island where they’re treated like family isn’t exactly an ideal combination. But no amount of rational thinking could quiet the fear lodged in her chest---That is but until one patient boy and his curious Night Fury begin to change everything.

Tumblr media
It has been a long six years since the last attack of the Red Death, leaving the people of Berk with a sense of peace. The war, with all its hardships and sacrifices, was over and done with. Berk was no longer a battlefield where courageous men went up against furious fire-spewing beasts who could be defeated only with incredible strength and brutality where steel met scale and fire meant death. There were no longer cries for help, suffering and torment of men and dragons alike.
But that didn’t mean you had changed with it.
The fear wasn’t logical. You knew that. The feeling that one experiences in respect to dragons flying in the air cannot be rationalized at all because it is practical. At all times, it is just impossible to miss the performance of dragons in the air. Eagles flaunt their ability to fly among the wind, but this bunch of aerial showstoppers leave all the birds amazed at their incredible aerial dramatics, it’s as if they had sails on them so that they could rent the wind. You have seen children climb on their backs, it is common to see them either flying free with glee or riding on the backs of dragons like huge Kites and getting an absolute thrill of joy by the accompanying rush of wind as they soared, which should have reassured you. You recalled Gobber's jesting reference that Toothless was as cuddly as a big tongue-laden cat.
None of it helped.
When dragons flew overhead, your shoulders still tensed. When they landed, your hands clenched unconsciously around the nearest object. And when one looked at you — those sharp, fierce eyes finding yours — your chest would tighten with something cold and sour, like a reminder of the past, triggering a primal response that made your heart race and your vocals would scream to flee from the nonexistent danger.
You told yourself it was instinct. A natural reaction to something that once meant danger, fire, and loss. No one blamed a soldier for ducking at the sound of thunder after a war. But still, when they passed overhead with their mighty wings stirring the sky, everyone else looked up in awe.
You didn’t.
You hated it.
You hated how your feet trembled at the sight of an infant dragos.
You hated how fearful you were.
There had been a time—brief, humiliating, and burned into your memory—when Astrid tried to help you ease into it. She meant well. Always had. It was one of those late afternoons when the skies were pale and full of salt, and the fish baskets were heavy with glistening mackerels, tails still twitching. Astrid had insisted it would help, said Stormfly was the most polite Deadly Nadder this side of Berk. That she wouldn’t bite unless you wore fish perfume or insulted her tail feathers.
You remembered gripping the bucket with both hands, knuckles pale against the cold tin. Stormfly had strutted up, talons clicking on the stone like she was walking a runway, head tilting with eerie grace. Then she opened her jaws.
A clean row of daggers—gleaming, serrated, too white to belong to something that could be trained. You dropped the bucket. Fish spilled across the dirt in a splash of silver. And then the world tipped sideways.
Astrid had caught you before your head hit the post, yelling your name loud enough to wake every dragon in the cove. You didn’t remember much else, except waking up with a wet rag on your forehead and Toothless sniffing your boots with the worried intensity of a mother hen.
She’d said something like, “Okay… maybe we’ll try again next week.” But there hadn’t been a next time. You’d avoided the stables for a month after that.
Then there was Gobber. Gobber, who thought everything was hilarious if it involved mild trauma and a dragon-sized punchline.
“Don’t worry about Grump,” he’d once hollered from across the forge, elbow-deep in smelted iron. “Too lazy to maul ya. By the time he decides to eat ya, you’ll be bones!”
You had laughed politely—because that’s what you were supposed to do—but your hands had been slick with nervous sweat the entire time. Grump had blinked at you from his mossy corner, half-asleep and chewing something that might’ve been a saddle or a very unfortunate stool leg.
Ruffnut and Tuffnut weren’t much help either—especially not when Snotlout was involved. The twins, with their wild hair and endless barrage of reckless jokes, were like a storm you couldn’t escape. Their loud laughter bounced off the rocky cliffs, often drawing unwanted attention from dragons or riders alike. You’d need to prepare for Loki day.
Snotlout, for his part, was the kind of presence that filled the air with bravado and bluster. He swaggered around, arms crossed, chest puffed out like a rooster, always ready with a challenge or a boast that made your skin crawl. When he caught sight of you, it was never a quiet greeting—more like a spotlight thrown on all your insecurities.
Then there was Fishlegs. Unlike the others, he meant well, truly. He’d shuffle up nervously, clutching a deck of his meticulously illustrated cards—dragons, their stats, facts about their habits. His fingers trembled slightly as he held them out.
“Maybe these will help,” he’d say softly, voice barely above the wind rustling the leaves.
But even the bright, colorful images—dragons drawn with playful accuracy—made your throat close up. The mere sight of those printed scales, the painted teeth, sent a shiver crawling down your spine. You’d swallow hard, nod politely, forcing a smile that didn’t reach your eyes.
Then there’s Hiccup.
Hiccup didn’t say anything, but you knew he noticed. He always noticed. And sometimes he’d speak gently to them in their strange, melodic tongue—words full of reassurance, not for the dragons, but for you. You hated how much that helped.
He never called you out in public. Never asked awkward questions or gave you that look others did — pity, mostly, or irritation. He was quieter than that. He simply started showing up more. You thought it was mockery, having someone titled as the Master of Dragons look out for you.
First at the market, unassuming. He’d appear beside the stall as you were weighing vegetables, casually asking about saddle buckles or spare ink like he hadn’t deliberately wandered over. Toothless, of course, waited obediently at a distance—eyes sharp focused on Hiccup and you, but manner gentle, letting you get used to the idea of company again. Hiccup never lingered too long. He’d talk just enough to ease the silence, then offer a crooked smile and let you go, no strings pulled, no explanations demanded. Though you were constantly shaking at the sight of a dark scaled dragon just a few feet away from your ground, even if its rider was just in front of you being friendly.
Then came the shoreline where he would pause sketching sea charts when he noticed you walking alone, letting his pencil fall slack in his hand while he waited. If you ever catch a glimpse of him, sometimes you’d nod. Sometimes not. He never seemed to mind either way.
And yet… Hiccup never asked you to be more than you were. Not once.
Eventually, he found you where you least expected: the old sheep pen near the forge, long since overgrown with weeds and ivy, repurposed as a training area for the younger dragons. Most people avoided it now—it smelled like scorched earth and singed fur, and the soil was too torn up to grow anything decent. The fencing was warped, the posts weathered, the soil uneven and pockmarked by old hoofprints. You liked it because it was quiet, untouched by the bustle of the main academy grounds.
No one thought to look for you there. But he did.
You were there scrubbing soot from the posts, the acrid smell of charred wood rising with every pass of your rag. A chore you took on that no one had asked you to do, and no one would’ve noticed if you hadn’t. But it rendered you useful and busy. Kept your back turned to the beasts.
Your sleeves were rolled past your elbows, fingers already tarnished black, when you sensed movement behind you. No claws, no wings—just a soft boot and the sound of metal, passing through the cement.
Hiccup.
“I, uh… I thought this place was off-limits,” he said with a sheepish grin.
You stayed silent. He was too, for a few wind passes.
"You, uh, always come here alone?” he said finally, voice casual, like he was commenting on the weather.
You glanced over your shoulder. “It’s quieter in the mornings.”
Hiccup ran his fingers along the edge of the rail, picking up a bit of ash. “You know, Gobber's been saying the same thing for days now. About the soot buildup, I mean. Just… no one’s bothered to actually fix it.” He glanced sideways, a smile tugging faintly at his mouth. “Until you.”
You kept your eyes on the fence, but your shoulders tensed slightly. “I like things that don’t talk back.”
His smile faded—not in offense, but with quiet understanding. He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he leaned more of his weight onto his arms, exhaling slowly as he looked across the field. Dragons lazed in the sun or sparred gently with one another under watchful eyes. Even Toothless, stretched out near the edge of the pen, kept a wary but nonchalant eye on you both.
“You know,” Hiccup said after a beat, “Toothless used to be like that. Kept to himself. Didn’t trust anyone. Especially me.” He tilted his head slightly, the wind brushing his hair back from his brow. “It took a long time before he let me close. And even longer before I stopped being afraid I’d ruin it.”
“I guess,” he continued, “sometimes the best connections start with silence. And some patience.”
You turned toward him, eyes narrowed in faint suspicion. “Was that supposed to be advice?”
He gave you a crooked grin. “Only if it sounded smart.”
From the leather pouch tied at his belt, he pulled something small. Not a fish, as you expected, but what looked like a bundle of herbs—dried roots and sprigs of lavender tied together with twine, the kind Gobber used to keep Grump calm during storms.
“This helps Toothless relax,” Hiccup said, gently setting the bundle down in the grass, fingers lingering on the twine as if the shape of it meant something. “Sometimes the other dragons get nervous when the wind changes. They pick up things we don’t. Sounds. Smells. Fear.”
Your breath caught. You weren’t sure if he meant you—or them.
He didn’t look up. Instead, he brushed a hand through the long stalks of grass, letting the scent from the herbs mingle with the air. “I used to think being brave meant doing the thing that scared you. Charging in. But now… I think it’s more about staying. Standing still, even when everything in you wants to run.”
You stood up slowly, brushing your palms together, the fine grit of soot and dry wood scraping away beneath your fingers.
“I was wondering,” he said, keeping his eyes on the ground, “if you might help me.”
“With…?”
“Toothless has been a bit… bored. I think he misses new faces. But I don’t want to force him on anyone.”
You turned fully, slowly. Your heart kicked against your ribs. Toothless was watching you — not with hunger, not even with interest. Just quiet, unblinking patience. You hadn’t even noticed him being in the same place as you. Hiccup was still talking—his voice gentle, meandering, as if testing the words aloud rather than delivering them with certainty. But to you, it sounded less like a heartfelt pep talk and more like one of Gobber’s forge-side lectures, the kind where he’d yell at you to “quit waddling like a duck that sat on an axe” while waving a hammer the size of your head.
“You know I don’t know anything about dragons,” you murmured.
“But I can help y—”
“You don’t get it.” The words slipped out sharp, but not angry—more tired than anything. You lowered your voice, unsure if you even wanted him to hear the rest. “I don’t get it.” It came quieter, frayed around the edges. “You all… you ride them. You trust them like it’s second nature. Like they’re just big, scaly friends. But when I look at them—when I really look at them—my body just… doesn’t listen. My chest locks up. My legs want to run.”
You laughed, if it could be called that. It had no warmth—just air and irony. “And I know they’re not monsters. I know that. But try telling that to whatever part of my brain starts screaming every time I see teeth. Or when I hear that low, guttural growl they make—like the ground itself is warning me.”
Hiccup’s posture hauled, subtly. He wasn’t fidgeting, not like usual. His shoulders had lowered, the corners of his mouth drawn not in confusion or pity, but in something closer to understanding. He didn’t speak—not right away. And you were grateful. He never rushed to fill silence for the sake of it.
“[Name], I—uhm…” His voice was soft. Cautious. “I’m sorry if I was rushing things. I just… thought maybe if I stuck close, I could make it easier. But I didn’t ask what you needed.”
He scratched the back of his neck, eyes dropping for a breath.
“I should’ve.”
Why are you so afraid of dragons?
You still remember your first encounter with a dragon—no older than five, wandering the woods with wild curiosity and a basket too small for your eager hands. It was a baby Nadder, trembling and bright-eyed, alone beneath the tangled canopy. Gobber had warned you—never wander off alone. But you wanted to bring a gift: a bounty of mushrooms, handpicked and hopeful.
The Nadder’s mother was hidden behind a massive boulder, her breath hitching in the quiet forest air. When she saw you, so small and bold, playing with her daughter, something inside her snapped. Fire erupted, roaring and sudden, scorching through the branches like a vengeful storm.
Your hair caught first, flames licking and burning until it was nothing but a ragged, singed memory. Heart pounding, you fled, leaving behind the tiny mushrooms and your woven basket, You had been doing fine—more or less. Your hands were steady, your breath measured, your thoughts arranged like fragile glass figurines on a shelf. A little cracked, maybe, but intact.
That was, until Toothless started showing movements.
It was unnoticeable at first—a swish of his tail, the soft thud of a paw shifting against the cement. But it was enough. Your eyes snapped toward him. Your entire body went stiff. Every muscle locked down like armor trying to hold itself in place. You hadn’t even realized you’d taken a step back until the cool grass whispered beneath your heels.
“Hey—hey, it’s okay,” came Hiccup’s voice. Gentle. He didn’t raise it above a hush, as if speaking too loudly might cause everything—your composure, the moment, even Toothless himself—to shatter. “He’s not gonna come closer. Not unless you want him to.”
“I obviously don’t want him to!” you snapped, your voice breaking with rising terror. Your heels scuffed against the overgrown cement as you stumbled backward, heart galloping against your ribs. “Then why is he getting closer?”
Toothless paused. His head tilted—just slightly, curiously, like he couldn’t quite understand why you were retreating, why your scent had changed to something sour with fear. His nostrils flared once.
And still he moved.
“Hiccup!” you choked, voice high, raw. You could hear it—the thin edge of hysteria bleeding into your words—but you couldn’t help it. It was too close. He was too close.
Hiccup moved quickly now, slipping between you and the Night Fury in a heartbeat. “Toothless,” he murmured, his tone lower now, threaded with something softer than command—something more like understanding. “Back off, bud.”
“You okay?” he asked, even though the answer was painfully, absurdly obvious.
“NO!”
And then you fell—not dramatically, not with grace—just folded in on yourself, collapsing to your knees as if your body had finally given up the pretense of holding it all in. Your arms wrapped tightly around your middle, and you tucked your chin down, curling in as if your very shape could somehow make you smaller. Safer.
The ground was cold beneath you, the scent of wet grass and old stone clinging to your boots and sleeves. Your breaths came in short, stuttering pulls, and your chest felt tight, like there wasn’t enough space inside you for the storm gathering there.
You didn’t cry, not exactly. But your throat burned with the threat of it.
You were scared. Very scared. And you hated how Hiccup tried to help—hated it in the way people hate warm hands when they’re still shivering. Because no help could clear the nightmares in your mind. No amount of soft words or thoughtful gestures could undo the things you’d seen, the images stitched so tightly into the back of your eyes that even blinking brought them forward again.
He didn’t understand that. Or maybe he did—too well. Which somehow made it worse.
He tries.
Sometimes, he would leave things for you. Small things. A fire-baked hand warmer wrapped in cloth during colder mornings, left beside the bench where you sharpened your tools. A folded sketch of a dragon’s wing anatomy—clearly labeled, clean, detailed—placed just under your door with no name attached. One time, it was a sprig of lavender tied with twine, fresh from Gothi’s garden. You didn’t know if that had been for calm or comfort, but it stayed tucked in your coat pocket for weeks.
You hated how much those things mattered. How they wormed their way into the cracks you’d worked so hard to seal.
But he did it with Toothless nearby.
A dragon.
“Please, try to calm down, [Name]. You know Toothless won’t hurt you.”
Hiccup crouched in front of you, his voice spoken with the kind of steadiness that didn’t need to be loud to be heard. His right hand rested gently on your shoulder, steadying you. The other moved with deliberate care, reaching for your arm, gently guiding it down from where you’d raised it over your head, your body still tense from shock.
He extended his hand out, palms facing the Night Fury, fingers spread wide in a gesture of open trust. He’s inviting—not just Toothless, but you—to see. To really see.
Toothless sat a short distance away, his wings tucked, head tilted with that curious look he wore when he didn’t understand but wanted to.
“I want to help.”
You wanted help.
But you didn’t know how to ask.
You hesitated, eyes darting from him to the ground, unsure where to anchor yourself. The dirt beneath your boots was damp, soft from the morning drizzle, and speckled with fallen pine needles. You focused on those, counting the flecks of brown and green, willing your breath to pace slowly, to settle into something steady.
You did not want to look at his eyes—those green eyes—the same green that Toothless has.
You felt his gaze before you looked up. Hiccup didn’t speak. He rarely did when you needed silence more than answers. He just stood there—awkward, steady, concerned—his hands began to carefully tuck behind his back, as though even the way he breathed might startle you if he wasn’t careful.
“It’s not that I don’t want to try,” you said at last, your voice low, like the words might break if you pushed too hard. “It’s just—sometimes I feel like everyone’s already ten steps ahead. They get it. They’re fearless. I blink and they’re already flying.”
Silence.
It was quiet. “Sorry. I’m not trying to be difficult.”
“You’re not,” Hiccup said immediately, and the softness in his tone made you flinch more than if he’d yelled. “It’s okay to be afraid.”
You blinked, caught off-guard by how gently he said it—like fear was just another thing you could admit to and still be whole. You weren’t used to that. Not here.
He shifted his stance slightly, brushing his hand along Toothless’ side absentmindedly. The dragon purred low, a sound like thunder muted in velvet.
“They’re not perfect,” he went on, his voice barely above the wind. “They’re wild. Powerful. Sometimes unpredictable. But they’re also... more than that. You don’t have to love them. Just let them exist beside you.”
You looked up at him then, really looked—not at the Chief, not the dragon rider, but Hiccup. The boy who built things with his hands and still got grease on his sleeves. The boy who smiled at dragons like they were misunderstood friends instead of fearsome beasts. The boy who, for reasons unknown, chose to stand beside you when no one else did.
“…I’m trying,” you said finally.
He nodded once, a small, genuine thing. “I know.”
Tumblr media
Hiccup had suggested that you and Toothless spend some time together, that maybe it would help you get over your fear of dragons. “Familiarity takes the teeth out of fear,” he’d said, half-joking, though his eyes had been serious
It was never easy.
Of course, you still flinched when Toothless moved too fast or got too close. Even the gentle sway of his tail or the soft thud of his padded feet could send a ripple of unease crawling up your spine. Your chest would tighten, and your lungs would burn with that frantic, invisible panic—like someone was pressing down on your ribs, making air feel scarce and heavy all at once, like you were breathing in fire instead of air.
But Hiccup never pushed. He was always nearby, not even patronizing, just close enough that if you stumbled, you wouldn’t fall far. He didn’t scold or sigh or give you that tired, disappointed look others did when you couldn’t keep up. He just kept bringing Toothless by, at quieter hours, when no one else was around. Sometimes they didn’t come close at all. Hiccup would sit a few paces away, scribbling into one of his notebooks while Toothless dozed in the grass, sun-bathing as if he were some oversized cat.
He gave Toothless simple tasks: to sit, to stay, to blink slowly at you like a feline signaling peace. And somehow, Toothless listened. Not just obeyed, but listened, as if he could sense the tremor in your bones and knew not to cross that unseen line. The dragon wanted a new friend, and that friend must be you.
Hiccup had started spending more time guiding you than he did at the forge. The clang of metal on metal had grown less frequent in the afternoons, replaced by the quiet murmur of his voice as he stood beside you, coaxing you through dragon behaviors, flight patterns, or simply hanging out with you.
He probably didn’t even notice it—the shift. But others did.
Vikings weren’t the most subtle people, and Berk was a place where whispers traveled faster than the wind. You caught the sideways glances in the market, the knowing smiles exchanged between older villagers. Even the children had begun to nudge each other whenever Hiccup’s shadow fell beside yours, wide-eyed and grinning like they were in on some grand secret.
Just murmurs… soft observations exchanged over stew pots and fire pits.
"How can a great leader be so oblivious of himself?" they would say, shaking their heads with fond disbelief. "He can tame a wild dragon with a glance, calm a storm with his words, but he can’t see what’s right in front of him."
They saw it—the spark. Something brighter than the flame of a Monstrous Nightmare, more enduring than even the North Star. It flickered in the way he stood a little closer when you were nervous, how his voice lowered when he spoke to you, gentler than he was with anyone else. It gleamed in the small, unspoken gestures: the way his brow furrowed when you flinched, how his hand hovered just near enough to catch you, but never touched unless you reached first.
Toothless seemed to notice too, often smiling when you and his rider are near to each other.
And you…?
You pretended not to notice.
Because if you noticed, you’d have to acknowledge what it meant. That this wasn’t just about your fear anymore.
Other times, Hiccup would talk—not about dragons, necessarily, but about other things. His thoughts. Old stories. Questions he had no answers to but liked to ask anyway. His voice was calm, always a little dry at the edges with humor, and something about it began to carve out space around you that didn’t feel so tight. So full of panic.
“I don’t really know if I’d make a good chief,” Hiccup said as he crouched beside the old training post, fingers idly plucking at a sprig of dry grass. The horizon was soft with the fading blush of dusk, and the only sounds were the distant calls of gulls and the rhythmic hush of waves against the cliffside.
“You won’t,” you replied without hesitation.
He turned sharply, a half-offended glare thrown your way, but before he could even open his mouth—
“You’ll make a great chief.”
That earned you a look.
You didn’t smile, but your eyes held steady. “I meant what I said.”
He blinked, as if caught off guard. Then, he sat back, letting his arms rest on his knees as he looked toward the horizon. “You know, most people just say what they think I want to hear.”
“I don’t do that.”
“Yeah… I’ve noticed.”
He enjoyed talking with you. He liked talking to you. He loves hearing you speak. You didn’t dance around things. You didn’t stare at him like he was still trying to fill a space his father had left behind. You spoke plainly, but there was a kindness in it—even when your words stung a little. He found himself waiting for your opinions. For your dry honesty. For your voice.
He loved hearing you speak, even if it wasn’t much. Especially when it wasn’t much.
Because when you did say something, it mattered.
“You can do this,” he’d told you once, when you were standing five feet from Toothless and barely breathing. “You’ll be braver than yesterday.”
And you had tried. Because he’d asked, because he believed you could, and maybe because some part of you—buried beneath all that panic—wanted to believe it too.
While other dragons were still wary of you, Toothless never pushed, as his rider did. Never came close unless you let him. He had this uncanny ability to read you, to sense when your muscles locked with fear or when your foot began inching back. He would stop mid-step, blinking those massive green eyes at you with a quiet intelligence that somehow softened the pounding in your ears.
He’d wait.
—--------
You sat a few feet away, knees drawn up, laughing softly as Toothless nudged your elbow with his snout. The dragon had grown patient with you over the past few weeks, almost unusually gentle, as if sensing that your fear wasn’t something to be conquered with force, but unraveled with care. Hiccup had expected you to give up by now—to walk away like so many others had when the reality of dragons became more than they could handle. But you didn’t. You stayed. Even through the trembling hands, the stiff posture, the wide eyes. You stayed.
And now, here you were, your fingertips hesitantly brushing the side of Toothless’s jaw.The dragon blinked slowly in response and let out a low, pleased hum that vibrated through the ground beneath them both.
Hiccup should have been focused on the saddle sketches or the list of repairs Gobber was probably waiting on. Instead, he found himself watching the way your hair caught the evening light, every movement slow and unsure, but not fragile. You were trying—for yourself, for Toothless, maybe for him too. And that realization caught him off guard.
He noticed how you bit your lip when you were nervous. How your laugh faltered when you were uncertain, but you laughed anyway. How you sat beside Toothless now, not quite touching, but not shrinking away either. You met fear with a kind of stubborn dignity that reminded him of something… maybe someone… but it wasn’t Astrid. It wasn’t anyone else.
It was just you.
He felt it in the way something in his chest tightened every time you smiled at him, like it wasn’t used to being looked at that way. He felt it in the way he started looking for your face first whenever he entered a room. And he felt it, most of all, in the moment your eyes met his and you gave him that small, uncertain smile—the one that said I’m trying, for you too.
He ducked his head quickly, pretending to fix a line on his paper, as if the way his throat suddenly went dry wasn’t obvious. But his hand froze halfway through the motion, the charcoal catching on the parchment as he glanced back up.
You were still looking at him.
And you didn’t look afraid anymore.
Not of Toothless.
Not of him.
He blinked, heart thudding once, heavy in his chest. Toothless made a soft grumbling noise beside you, casting Hiccup a knowing glance that made his ears burn.
Maybe the dragon knew before he did.
Maybe you did too.
But Hiccup only smiled, soft and barely there, and let himself look at you a second longer than he probably should have.
Just one more moment. Then another.
He was falling.
Falling….for you!
He loves you.

A Mother’s Blessing
Tumblr media
A family reunion leads Hiccup to realize just how important you are to have in his life forever.
Pairing : Hiccup x Reader
Warnings: None
There was a similarity between the two; that was for sure.
Hiccup had always theorized that he took after his mother; even if he couldn’t remember her features. The comparisons between father and son were slim if existent; so much so that Hiccup often joked his father was given the wrong babe. Now finally, his theory of his appearance coming from his mother was finally presented with evidence.
It was more than appearance though; anyone who knew Hiccup well enough would understand that. They both shared the same mannerisms.
His mother-Valka, talked wildly with her hands as you watched her show off the sanctuary she had been calling home for 20 years; the same way Hiccup did when he was trying to explain his thoughts. They both shuffled from one foot to another; as if it hurt to stand still; their minds already miles away.
The eyes were the most similar. Not particularly the color or the shape; though there was obviously a connection. It was something you had only seen in Hiccup before, what had drawn you to them. A sense of kindness and compassion; a wonder of the world and all it had to offer.
So yes, it definitely appeared that the son took after the mother; and now the two were reunited at last.
Your eyes drifted to the man beside you for a few moments. His shaggy hair a bit windswept and his gaze struck on his mother as she fawned over Toothless; the Night Fury happy to be dotted on.
“He’s beautiful.” Valka remarked as she rubbed the dragon’s snout. Her smile met her eyes as she looked up at her son; elated that he shared her love of the flying beasts. Her gaze then wandered past the boy to you; noting how your own gaze was on her son; a look she remembered well from her own youth.
With a final pat to Toothless’ head, Valka rose from where she had been kneeling, a grip on her staff as she took a few steps closer to you, offering a kind smile.
“You’re quite beautiful too, lass.” Her words caused you to blush, mummering a quiet ‘Thank you’ as you glanced over to Hiccup, a soft smile on his face as well.
Valka smiled lightly at the interaction between the two young vikings in front of her. She raised the hand not grasped around her staff, slowly reaching out towards you. Once you gave her a soft nod, she gently placed her hand on the side of your face; taking in your features.
“I can see why he likes you.” She whispered, a note meant for you two as she gently nodded towards her son.
Your grin widened at the comment as you giggled out, “Don’t let him know, but I’m pretty fond of him too.”
“Are you two talking about me?” Hiccup called out, his eyes soft as he leaned against Toothless.
You pulled from Valka to look towards the viking boy, a mischievous glint in your eyes, “Just catching your mom up on how you got yourself tangled in Bucket’s fishing net last week.”
“Oh, you’re a real comedian, you know that!” Hiccup rolled his eyes, though the grin on his face gave him away.
As you turned to face the boy, Valka’s eyes drifted down towards the charm hanging around your neck. Her eyes widened softly as she looked at it with remembrance; the metal faces of viking and a dragon looking up at her from where they rested against your tunic. The gift that Stoick had presented her with all those years ago, before they joined as wife and husband now hung around your neck; a promise that now bound you and Hiccup.
You watched her carefully as she gently held the betrothal necklace in her hands, running her fingers softly against the carving, a look of peace and thought on her face. A moment later, she gently returned the pendant to where it hung against your chest, a soft smile on her face.
“Come,” She took a step back, looking between you and her son as she turned towards the sanctuary, “I have so much to show you both.”
A few hours later you laid out on the grassy cliffs of the sanctuary. The sun had set and most of the dragons had laid down for the night, the soft sounds of their breathing and water ripples filing the nest.
Hiccup laid beside you, one arm around your waist and holding your body to his. From inside the caves you both could hear the laughter from Valka, Stoick and Gobber as the reminisced on their youths and caught up.
The hand Hiccup had snaked around your waist had found its way to the necklace against your chest, as it so often did. He ran his thumb against the carving, tracing the pattern with his fingertips as you both looked out across the land.
“Your mom is really great.” You hummed out, your voice low since you were so close to the man next to you.
Hiccup nodded, adjusting his head slightly to press a quick kiss against the crown of your hairline, “Yeah, she-she’s,” He paused for a moment, “She’s everything I expected and more.”
A loud laugh that belonged to none other than the Chief of Berk rang out from the caves before you spoke out, “Your dad seems really happy too. He must have missed her so much.”
Twenty years sure was a long time to be separated from the love of your life. Hiccup cast his eyes down to you, he could barely go an hour without seeing you let alone a few days or twenty years.
“Hey,” You turned your body so that you were now facing Hiccup after a moment of silence, your nose a few inches from his own, “What are you thinking about in there?” You punctuated your question by reaching up to Hiccup’s forehead and pushing his hair back.
Hiccup reached up, gently grabbing your wrist and bringing your hand down to his mouth to press a soft kiss to the back of it.
“Marry me.”
Your eyes crinkled in confusion though a smile sat on your face, “What?”
“When we get back to Berk.” Hiccup explained, moving the hand he had been holding to rest against his cheek, “Let’s get married. We’re already betrothed and we’ve been together for years. Sure, we may need a few weeks to get everything planned; but my dad will officiate and Astrid can do your hair. We’ll need rings, and to get you a dress of course and we can stay with my parents until our house is finished and-
“You’re serious.” You cut him off, sitting on the grass now as he moved up to join you, his eyes on yours.
“Of course.” His hands found your own in your lap, “Seeing my mom and my dad today; they love each other so much, even after all these years. I want to wake up every day with you and go to sleep next to you every night to do it all again. I wanna grow old with you and have a life together. I love you-“
A few tears pricked in your eyes as you squeezed his hands, “I love you too.”
Hiccup smiled; one of those bright smiles that reached his eyes and made his whole face light up, “Then marry me. Please.”
A wide grin broke on your face as you threw yourself onto him. Hiccup’s back hitting the grass as you pressed your chest to his and held him in a deep kiss. Your hands flew to the sides of his face, one pushing back to entangle in his hair as his hands quickly found a place on your waist, squeezing your sides gently as you kissed each other passionately.
“So,” Hiccup breathed out as your foreheads leaned against each other, “Does-does that mean you say yes?”
You rolled your eyes, pressing a quick kiss to the tip of his nose as you smiled down at him, “Of course it means yes.”
Hiccup lifted up slightly to steal a kiss from you, his head returning to the ground as he smiled up at you, “We’re getting married.”
“Yeah, we’re getting married.”

Pl Please and thank you, if not please ignore this. A request for Hiccup x reader, it can be placed in the first movie when there is the training against dragons, specifically the scene of Astrid scolding Hiccup with that dialogue "....our parents' fight will become ours" and reader defends him, reader (she does not understand dragons but she respects them and is interested in them but only she knows that), and defends Hiccup verbally to Astrid, just a small discussion, from then on Hiccup is interested in reader because she defended him and because reader is not afraid of dragons in the training, which is strange because she never attacks him directly but it is like driving away a beast and generates interest in him.

✎ When you quietly hold your ground during dragon training—never striking first, only observing—Hiccup takes notice. You're the only one who treats dragons with a strange, distance, and when you defend him during a heated clash with Astrid, he starts to wonder if he’s not as alone in his thinking as he thought.

Ash clung to the air, dense as flour, stirred by each step across the rugged ground. A fine coat of soot blanketed the arena like dust on forgotten parchment, and the scent—smoke, scorched rope, and something faintly sulfuric—settled stubbornly in your clothes. The roof above, a precarious structure of chains and stone designed with a singular purpose: to imprison dragons, and prevent their flight, groaned and clanged against one another as the deep wind swept through the cavernous space.
Gobber’s voice bellowed through the dusted air: “Today, we teach you how to not die! Keep your limbs, keep your pride, and maybe—maybe—you’ll live to see dinner!”
You tightened your grasp on the leather strap of your borrowed shield with rigid edges. It smelled like someone else's sweat and fire—ripe, acrid, and unmistakably used. Have you not any shame, oh, how you wished you could pinch your nose without looking like a complete amateur. After Gobber’s ‘I believe in learning the job’ you’d completely lost hope in finishing the academy training with the Deadly Nadder tailing your butts to destroy you with its spontaneous bursts of poisonous spines wherever it could fly. At least he had the time to explain that shields matter more than a sword.
“hey–Hey, you know I just happened to notice the book had nothing to do with night furies.” You hear a cranky voice just a wall behind you, assuming it was Hiccup, likely addressing Gobber. A Before you could react, a sudden burst of fire struck the wall—a Nadder’s blast—searing through the wooden wall and lighting up the space. The impact revealed your silhouette, exposed and clearly visible through the scorched gap.
“Today, it’s all about attack! Now get ye’ lots and butts movin’.”
You took off running, swatting at the small flames that clung to your clothes. Heat nipped at your sleeves as you pushed forward, doing everything you could to stay ahead of the Nadder. Sharp talons scraped against the wood behind you, and you heard the distinct whir of spines being fired. You ducked instinctively, heart pounding.
“Nadders are quick and light on their feet.” Gobber peeked from above.  “Your job is to be quicker and lighter”
Easier said than done.
Turning a corner too fast, —only to slam into Fishlegs with full force. The impact sent both of you staggering, arms pinwheeling for balance, but managed to regain balance just in time. You managed to stay in your feet, just as a cluster of razor-sharp Nadder spikes thudded into your shield with a metallic crack. Others peppered the ground where you had stood seconds ago.
You would’ve been at peace if Gobber hadn’t insisted on training you, calling you a “wee lamb” that needed to transform into a “goat.” You’d been sleeping soundly, deep in the comfort of your blankets, your body relaxed and still. The world outside had faded away, the early morning stillness wrapping around you like a warm, quiet cocoon. Then, next thing you know your legs were up and high, snatched by his prosthetic hook.
“I’m really beginning to start questioning your teaching methods.” “So do I!”
You sprinted ahead, putting more distance between yourself and Fishlegs, hoping to draw the Nadder's attention elsewhere. The dragon’s growls echoed in your ears, but you kept your focus on the creature's movements, looking for any sign of weakness, any gap in its defense. You had to figure out its blind spot.
Ahead, you spotted Astrid and Snotlout, their bodies low to the ground sneaking away from the spined dragon. They were working their way around the Nadder, trying to avoid being noticed. Just as you were about to make your move, Hiccup arrived, his figure appearing in the distance.
Astrid glanced over at him, quickly waving for him to crouch. “Get down,” she murmured, the command almost sounding like a scold. Hiccup, however, was still going on about the Night Fury, oblivious to the urgency around him. Astrid peeked her head over the edge, her eyes scanning the Nadder’s movements, watching for any sign that it had walked away from their direction. Once the coast was clear, Astrid moved quickly, rolling her body to the other wall alongside Snotlout and you.
Behind you, Hiccup tried to follow suit, but he wasn’t as quick. As he rolled, the weight of his shield caught the ground, sending a sharp scrape through the air that made everyone flinch. His eyes widened in mild panic as he scrambled to regain his balance.
The sound didn’t go unnoticed. The Nadder, its eyes scanning the area, whipped its head toward the noise, its focus shifting immediately from you to the others. In an instant, it let out a ferocious screech and surged upward.
“Don’t worry, babe, I got this.” Snotlout’s voice was as confident as ever, though you couldn’t quite tell if he was talking to you or Astrid––not that it made a difference. His grin was wide, almost too wide, as he swung his mace, aiming for the Nadder with all the flair of a showman.
But the moment the mace left his hand, it veered off course, flying wide and completely missing the dragon. It sailed past the dragon’s side. Way past. The Nadder didn’t even flinch as it soared past, instead charging straight toward them, its eyes locked on the three of you.
You turned to him, unimpressed, giving him a long, deadpan stare. “Really?”
He blinked, then raised a hand as if that explained everything. “The sun was in my eyes, [Name].” Before you could even reply, the Nadder reared back and spewed a burst of fire. “What do you want me to do? Block out the sun? I could do that, but I don’t have time right now.”
Hiccup stood in place, still distracted, flipping through the pages of the dragon manual and pointing out something to Gobber. “They probably took the daytime off, right? Like a cat—’”
“Hiccup!” you barked, but he didn’t take notice. The Nadder roared and charged again, this time lunging straight for Astrid.
“Hiccup!” Gobber called out
“Hiccup!” Astrid shouted too, her voice laced with both panic and fury. She sprinted across the shaky remains of the training structure, the Nadder crashing after her, claws tearing into the wood as it climbed with terrifying speed. You watched from below, tense, trying to find an opening to help—but everything was collapsing too fast.
“Look out!” you yelled.
She lost balance and fell—straight onto Hiccup, knocking them both to the ground with a heavy thud. The air left his lungs in a wheeze, but the worst of it wasn’t the impact—it was the sharp clang that followed. Astrid’s axe, still tightly gripped in her hand during the fall, drove straight into the rim of Hiccup’s shield. The metal bit into the wooden frame and lodged itself deep, the two now stuck together awkwardly.
“Ooh, love on the battlefield,” Tuffnut snickered, elbowing his sister as he peeked over the edge of a half-crushed platform.
“She could do better.”
You wanted to help, but the Nadder was almost free from the stacked pile of wood, its claws scraping against the debris as it struggled to get out. Every second counted.
"Let—let me... why don’t you—?" Hiccup stammered, trying to talk to Astrid, taking off her hand from squishing his face. He was still holding onto his shield, clearly trying to make sense of the chaos, but Astrid wasn't having it. She leaped forward, eyes locked on the Nadder, now fully freed from the pile of wreckage. Panic surged through her, and she pushed her foot onto Hiccup’s face with an unceremonious shove, yanking the axe from his shield with a sharp jerk.
Before Hiccup could react, Astrid was already swinging the axe, driving it into the Nadder’s advancing form. The force of the blow knocked the dragon back, sending it reeling. The sheer power in her movement was enough to force the Nadder to hesitate, if only for a moment, as it tried to regain its footing.
Ignoring your weapon, you threw it aside, the clatter barely registering as you focused entirely on the dragon. You rushed forward at the same time, your own fists raised, staying close to Astrid as the Nadder snarled, its fiery eyes narrowing. The tension in the air was palpable, the ground would be shaking with each step the dragon took if it didn’t have light feet.
You stepped forward, standing firm in the Nadder's path, trying to get its attention. No weapons. Just your instincts. You weren't going to fight this dragon with blades; you had to be smarter.
"Hey, hey!" you called, voice steady despite the adrenaline flooding your system. The Nadder’s head swung toward you, its eyes narrowing.
The dragon was close now, its massive, scaly head turning toward you, its nostrils flaring as it caught your scent. You raised your arms, palms open, trying to appear larger, more intimidating. You shouted, not out of fear, but to be heard above the mess.
“Get away from them!”
The Nadder snarled in response, its tail flicking to the side as if it might strike you. But you didn’t flinch. You couldn’t afford to. In a matter of speaking, you weren’t exactly the type to fight dragons. They intrigued you—fascinated you in a way that made it hard to see them as mere enemies. You weren’t one to simply engage in a battle with something you didn’t understand, especially when their behavior wasn’t entirely rooted in malice.
You knew this was a high-risk situation, but you weren’t about to make things worse by provoking it further. Your eyes stayed locked on the Nadder as you slowly approached, hands up, keeping your posture calm and open. The dragon’s fiery gaze met yours, and for a split second, it seemed to hesitate, assessing you, its growls softening.
This wasn’t a fight—it was a standoff. And you weren’t going to fight if you didn’t have to.
Hiccup was still laying down to the ground, his eyes narrowed in concentration as he watched the scene unfold. The Nadder was on the offensive, its spines raised, ready to strike. The rest of the group was scrambling, trying to keep the dragon at bay with their weapons, but you... you weren’t doing what everyone else was.
A few tense moments passed. Then, with an almost reluctant grunt, the Nadder turned, its body coiling as it began to retreat, its fiery breath dissipating into the air.
You stood still, watching it leave. Only when it had fully backed off did you allow yourself to exhale, the adrenaline of the encounter still buzzing in your chest.
"You didn’t even use your weapon," Astrid said, her voice sounding a bit more incredulous than usual as she caught up with you. Her eyes were still wide, likely processing what had just happened.
Gobber, who had been watching the whole exchange from the sidelines, let out a low whistle of approval. "Well done, Astrid and [Name]." His gravelly voice was full of respect, and that made you feel a little less on edge.
Just as you were about to pat Astrid on her shoulder, however, her focus changed—badly—to Hiccup. Her eyes burned with frustration, the fire in them hard to ignore. “Is this some kind of a joke to you?” she spat, her fists clenched at her sides. “Our parents' war is about to become ours! Figure out which side you’re on.”
Hiccup shrank back slightly, fiddling with the strap of his tunic, his voice faltering. “I was just—”
“No, you weren’t,” Astrid interrupted, her voice sharp, her eyes narrowing as she stared down at him. “You never fight back. What happens when that hesitation gets one of us burned alive, huh? What if it’s me? Or him?” She jabbed her finger toward Snotlout, who looked momentarily offended, furrowing his brow at the gesture.
“Hey, hey, calm down, Astrid. Leave him alone.”
Hiccup looked up, surprised. The words weren’t directed at him—they were directed at Astrid, but somehow, they wrapped around him like a shield. You gave him a hand and helped him get up. His breath caught in his throat as you stepped forward, standing between them with an easy, almost casual determination. You were standing up for him. He wasn’t used to that, especially not from someone who he had never tried to make a conversation with. Now, you and Hiccup weren’t close, nor were you friends. but something about the situation made you act.
Astrid whipped her head toward you, her frustration evident in the tight line of her mouth, though now there was a flicker of confusion mixed in with the anger. “What? You’re going to defend him now?”
You nodded, standing your ground. “He’s trying to figure things out, Astrid. You don’t have to push him this hard. We’re all under pressure, but that doesn’t mean you get to tear each other apart.”
“And it’s not like we asked the Gods to give the responsibility of our parents to us,” you said, your voice a little more strained than you intended. Hiccup looked up at you, his brow furrowed, his hands still clasped tightly in front of him. He hadn’t expected that response. Neither had you. It just slipped out.
“Eh, she’s got a point there, lass.”
Astrid’s eyes flicked to you, her jaw tight. But she didn’t say anything. With a sharp exhale through her nose, she turned on her heel and walked off, boots striking the ground with clipped steps. The others followed in silence—Snotlout tossing a last glance back, Fishlegs adjusting his belt awkwardly, Ruff and Tuff muttering to each other but keeping close behind.
None of them looked at Hiccup.
Only Astrid’s shoulders stayed tense as she disappeared around the corner of the training paddock. Her anger wasn’t aimed at you—you could feel it in the way she hadn’t met your eyes. It was Hiccup she couldn’t even look at.
Tumblr media
You didn’t stay behind like usual. Not today. You threw your gear over your shoulder, kept your head down, and started walking away—off the academy grounds, past the watchtower, and down the slope that led toward the cliffs. You thought of catching some fresh air in the woods, they normally have great scent due to the petrichor after raining.
“Hey—wait, [Name]!”
You slowed slightly but didn’t turn. You could hear him fumbling behind you. The voice was familiar—uncertain, hurried—but you’d recognize Hiccup’s anywhere, nervous, a little hoarse and scrawny like the cry of a newborn yak. You heard his boots scuff as he jogged to catch up, the unevenness of his steps telling you he wasn’t used to chasing people down. His voice always sounded a little too big for him, like he’d borrowed it from someone braver.
He reached your side, a little out of breath, one hand holding the strap of his satchel as if it might anchor him. “You—uh—you left kind of fast.”
“Food won’t wait for me,” you said, not breaking stride. The excuse slipped out easily, but it was a half-truth at best.
Hiccup hesitated, looking ahead before speaking again. “Why... why did you defend me?” Hiccup finally asked. He wasn’t sure if he even wanted to hear the answer. Part of him thought he didn’t deserve it—he hadn’t earned it. He’d been a disappointment to so many already.
You glanced at your back. His expression wasn’t angry or accusatory—just... confused. Tentative. Like someone standing on a frozen lake, unsure how thick the ice really was.
“You didn’t have to do that,” he said. “Back there… with Astrid. I mean, she wasn’t wrong. I mess things up. All the time.” There wasn’t self-pity in his voice—at least not the performative kind. It was just fact, spoken plainly. Like he’d memorized that line after hearing it too often.
“Don’t think of yourself badly, Hiccup.” Hiccup looked down, brow furrowed. He kicked at a pebble near his foot, watched it skip across the path.
“You’re brave,” you added, your voice softer now. “Not in the way people like Astrid think of it. But in your own way. The kind that matters.”
He blinked. For a moment, he didn’t seem to know what to do with your words. Then he laughed under his breath—a short, awkward sound, more surprised than amused.
“I don’t feel very brave,” he murmured.
“Most brave people don’t,” you replied.
“Thanks,” he said finally, quietly. “For saying that. For... being there.”
From that evening on, Hiccup started sticking closer than ever, almost as if he’s your second shadow.
At first, it was subtle. He'd show up early to group meetings, always managing to sit beside you even when the others rearranged themselves chaotically. He'd offer to carry an extra pack, pass you a flask of water without asking, or stand just a step behind you when tensions with the others ran high—as if your presence somehow steadied him.
Then it became impossible not to notice.
You’d turn a corner in the stables and there he’d be, scribbling in his sketchbook but glancing up the moment your heels hit the stone floor. He trailed you during patrol shifts under the pretense of wanting “extra field experience,” and at mealtime, his tray would somehow always end up across from yours. You never called him out on it. You didn’t need to. And strangely enough, you didn’t mind.
Whenever you were out in the field, testing your own methods—fast, unorthodox, bordering on reckless—Hiccup’s eyes never left you. Not once. While the others braced for dragon fire or fumbled with their shields, he’d be watching you, his gaze locked in quiet awe, trying to memorize the way you moved, how you timed your shifts between evasion and precision, like you were dancing with danger rather than dodging it.
You called him out the third time it happened.
“You’re gonna get torched if you keep staring like that,” you snapped, yanking him behind cover after a Nadder’s blast barely missed his leg. “Keep your eyes on the dragon, not on me.”
At first, the others teased him for it. Snotlout made howling noises every time Hiccup moved to follow you, and Ruffnut started keeping an imaginary tally—“That’s ten sightings today, folks. At this rate, he’ll be part of [Name]’s shadow by next week.” But Hiccup didn’t rise to it. He didn’t deny it, didn’t make excuses. He just gave them that sheepish smile of his and kept doing what he was doing.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III x Fem!Reader Synopsis: four of the many times hiccup was oblivious to the fact he was in love with you and the time he finally realised.  Word Count: 1.5K Tags: 4+1 fic, Fluff, Hiccups pov Note: started this ages ago and only just got inspired enough to finish it.
1. Searching for you in a crowd
Hiccup would never admit it, even now that he is respected as the heir to the hairy hooligan tribe and his father is proud of him. That he still feels like an outsider.
Maybe it’s because they see him as this dragon master and while he might be if he’s to listen to anything Fishlegs says- he feels like they don’t see anything else- he is still just the chief’s son, the future of the tribe or their saviour if any of his work on the edge was talked about. He was never just Hiccup to them, even to his friends they see him as this omnipotent being rather than just a teen like them- capable of making mistakes.
He suggests that this is why he prefers to have time alone- just him, toothless the ocean beneath them and the wind carrying them elsewhere, where he can be anything.
Annoyingly, this is not something he can do now: walking into the great hall at dinner time. He can already feel the beginnings of a headache wracking his brain as he imagines the awkward conversations he is going to have with villagers about his work on the edge as of late or the nagging of his father and Gobber to come back to Berk so he can learn the ways of chiefdom- something he is unsure that he even wants.
Entering the great hall after a large exhale, Hiccup looks around, searching for something lips pursing when he can’t find it immediately. It is only when he walks closer to where his father is sat, calling out pleasantries to those who greet him on the way that his eyes lock onto your figure, listening intently to what Ruffnut and Tuffnut are saying. Following the movements of their arms with your eyes as they spoke animatedly about who knows what. Hiccup finds a small smile appear on his face at the sight of you, only looking away when his father claps a hand behind his back making him aware of his surroundings, turning towards his father struggling to listen to whatever issue his father needs resolving around Berk this time, his thoughts still surrounding his best friend, knowing that as long as you are here he can be himself, just Hiccup. As that was always more than enough for you and that idea alone makes him feel less like an outsider.
2. Missing you when apart
He was starting to regret saying you couldn’t come with him. Not that he doesn’t enjoy Astrid and (sometimes) Snotlout’s company, but it clearly isn’t the same. While he usually enjoys scouting missions as they are a peaceful opposition to the dangerous missions they have had as of late, you typically come with him.
But he knows that you cannot leave the edge defenceless and Astrid was complaining about not getting out with Stormfly enough- so it all made sense logically for Astrid to come instead and for you to stay on land, protecting the dragon eye lenses the group had hidden.
He couldn’t trust anyone more which is why he was confused as to why he felt so anxious. Even Toothless could notice the angst radiating off his rider, making a noise of questioning at Hiccup when he was quieter than normal, not even going over the route the group were scouting- something he usually did a hundred times until the group got annoyed at him. Not even playfully joking with Snotlout about who was the better cousin until Astrid would make a comment that would set Snotlout off arguing with her.
Instead, the three riders sat in somewhat awkward silence with Astrid and Snotlout starting at each other trying to gauge if the other knew what was wrong with the boy and who was going to ask him as seemingly neither wanted to as usually you would look after Hiccup when he got like this but you were back on the edge and honestly Astrid was wishing she didn’t kick up such a fuss about her and Stormfly’s lack of action as even being bored back on the edge was better than being sat in this haunting silence.
It was only upon returning to the edge that the two saw his mood pick up, he nearly crashed Toothless into the ground at the speed he dismounted causing the other two to look around in panic until they saw him running towards you and then it all made sense. The two snickering slightly as they realised that he was only in a foul mood because you weren't around.
3. You looking after him when he gets sick
“It was only a matter of time” you muttered to him as you bundled him up in his blankets and he knew that you were right, you had been telling him for weeks to wear some warmer clothes during his flights with Toothless and his lack of listening has left him bedridden with a horrible cold, head pounding, nose blocked and red cheeks. He could only imagine the state of him somehow shaking and sweating all at the same time. He would’ve replied with something teasing if his throat didn’t feel so scratchy so he simply settled for a huff which made you laugh quietly in return.
“Okay, I will stop being mean, but only if you get some sleep” you reasoned with the boy as he whined at the idea thinking of everything he had to today
“I will get Astrid and Fishlegs to take your jobs for the day- can't have you getting any sicker what would your Father say?” you continued and at these words, the boy stopped fussing, the exhaustion finally catching up to him.
“Have a good sleep Hiccup, I will be here when you wake up,” you muttered as he dozed off.
For some reason, Hiccup couldn’t understand those words made him feel so much better.
4. When his dad mentions you
Small talk with his father even after all this time was still somewhat awkward, like the feeling of your skin being too big for your bones. But, it was much better than it used to be or at least Hiccup usually believed it was. Still, today he would give anything to be anywhere but sit with his dad in their family home as he couldn’t stop going on about you and possibly betrothals something Hiccup knew would annoy you.
“I heard a lot of the boys around here want to ask for her hand, so maybe you should get a move on” Stoick spoke trying to hint at the boy's clear feelings for you
“I- what?” Hiccup asked confused, when had he ever shown interest in that?
“Oh it's nothing” Stoick tried to cover his tracks feeling Hiccups in annoyance at his words ‘you two just remind me of myself and a special someone when I was younger”
“What are you and Gobber? I’m sure she will be very flattered by those words Dad” Hiccup laughed before quickly taking his leave before his father could sprout out any more nonsense.
“Me and your mother” Stoick muttered but Hiccup was already gone, probably halfway back to the edge due to how fast he bolted out the door.
5. The realisation
Watching you interact with Toothless was one of Hiccup's favourite things to do. Seeing his dragon take a shine to you just as much as he does makes a warmth spread all over his body in a comforting way.
“Hiccup, my brother! What’s happening?” Tuffnut called out as he made his way towards the boy Hiccup quickly looked away from you for some reason embarrassed to be nearly caught by the boy, his cheeks red and hot
“Not- not a lot” Hiccup tried to smile but it came off uneasy much like his words. To his luck, Tuffnut didn't seem to notice instead looking at where Hiccup had his eyes trained just moments before before looking back at the boy
“Don’t worry I see” Tuffnut nodded in understanding causing Hiccup to become confused
“See what?” he questioned the peculiar boy
“You were finally building up the courage to ask her out!” Tuffnut declared “I mean it’s about time everyone knows you have the biggest crush on her! Don’t let me stop you, in fact, I wasn't even here!” the boy quickly ran off as Hiccup's thoughts whirled around his brain about what on earth was Tuffnut on about he didn’t have a crush on you. No way. I mean sure you are the first person he looks for in a crowd of people, he gets irritable when you aren't with him on missions, you are the only one he would want looking after him and his father loves you but that doesn't mean he likes you right- your his best friend he couldn't possibly- could he?
Then it hit Hiccup, he did have the biggest crush on his best friend, more than a crush really. He was irrevocably in love with you and to make matters worse Tuffnut knew before he did.

You didn’t want to come across as overbearing or needy but you did miss your best friend significantly.
Hiccup had been on a scouting mission with Astrid all week, leaving you to keep things tidy at the workshop with Grubber.
Every day felt a little longer.
It wasn’t that you didn’t think they could handle what’s out there, but more the fact you can’t handle it always being Hiccup & Astrid. Always together.
Always going on missions together. Always flying with each other. Their dragons were best friends so why wouldn’t they be? You should be happy that the Chief and the best warrior in Berk are close.
You only wished they weren’t as close as they are.
For purely selfish reasons of the heart, of course.
Sure, you and Hiccup had been best friends since you were babes. But there was always something locked tight in your chest that was reserved for whenever you were around Hiccup - like some sort of fluttering or an extra heartbeat.
You keep telling yourself that it could be a deepening crush, but you refuse to allow yourself fully into that thought because you’re terrified the feelings wouldn’t be reciprocated.
As you walk home after a long day at the workshop, you notice Hiccup and Astrid flying back in from their scouting trip.
The sun was paining delicate pinks and oranges onto the sky and you watched as Hiccup flew through the clouds, like a finger moving through cotton. He always looked so effortless up there. So at peace.
Berkians swarmed Astrid and Hiccup as they landed, dragons in perfect shape. Riders also. Phew.
You moved to walk down to meet them but stopped short when you watched Astrid give Hiccup a tight hug, lips moving closely over his ear.
“Hiccup, you’re back!” A child shouted, excited that his Chief had come home.
“Tell us everything.”
“Yeah.”
You didn’t feel up to heading down there anymore with that tight feeling in your chest returning. You gulped back a hard feeling in the back of your throat and started up the path that led to the top of the hill.
✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️
The view from the top was indescribable.
You could see for miles and yet there was barely anything to see, and yet it was perfect.
There was something peaceful about watching the ocean wash away and come back. It was rhythmic. Routine. And with the sun casting its pastel glows over the water it made it all the more special.
You sat on the very edge, legs tucked up to your chin and your head resting on your knees.
There wasn’t that much space between you and the edge. Hiccup had nearly grounded you from leaving the house once when you’d nearly fallen over the edge, but luckily he’d been there.
You felt free up here.
Almost like you could—
“You better not be even thinking what you’re thinking.”
Hiccup and Toothless landed behind you with a thump. Hiccup looked worried and Toothless looked ready.
“You don’t know what I’m thinking.”
“You’re thinking about how freeing it would be to fall.” You felt Hiccup sit down next to you.
You realised that was what you’d been thinking… but not in a catastrophic way. More in a way where you wished you could grow wings, like your dragons, and fly off into the sunset.
“Well, not…” You felt like you had to clarify, but got cut off.
“No I know.” Hiccup was watching the sunset when you looked at him, “I felt the same way. That’s why I built my own wings. Ever since I first got to fly Toothless i’ve always wanted to be able to fly with him, too. You know?”
“Mhm.” You nodded.
“You’re awfully quiet.”
“Am I? Sorry.” You mumbled.
“Hey. What have we said about apologising for no reason?” Hiccup shuffled closer to you.
You breathed like you were about to say something.
“Don’t say it!” Hiccup warned you, earning a laugh from you.
“I want to, though.”
“Well don’t. Otherwise I’ll have Toothless play drop and catch with you.” Hiccup poked your side and you laughed even more.
You almost rolled forwards and off the cliff, but Hiccup’s arm reached around the far side of your waist and pulled you back. You were still laughing when your back hit the ground.
You kept laughing until you slowly realised that Hiccup was laying down - quite closely - next to you. His eyes were watching your smile and his arm was still firmly secured around your waist.
“You’re going to be the death of me.”
“Don’t be so dramatic.” You chuckled.
You turned to look up at the sky for a brief moment, before returning your gaze to Hiccup who was still looking at you.
“What?” You asked softly.”
“Nothing. I just—.”
Hiccup was rudely interrupted by Toothless coming to lick a stripe of saliva over his face and down his chest, sticking to his armour. You laughed at the sight, sitting up as you watched Hiccup groan.
“Toothless… You know that doesn’t wash out.” Hiccup flicks away some saliva and Toothless sits on his hind legs, looking proud of himself.
Toothless starts dancing round in a circle, laughing in his own way along with you.
You stand up and make your way over to the Night Fury, as Hiccup continues to wash off the dragon bleh…
Toothless makes his way over to you and bows his head for you to touch. Hiccup’s dragon has always been so gentle and calm around you. People often say it’s his soul imitating yours. Toothless closes his eyes as his forehead bumps against yours.
How anyone could be anything but in awe of these magical creatures is a mystery.
Hiccup comes to stand next to you, standing only a bit taller than you.
“He likes you more than he likes me.” Hiccup says, scratching behind Toothless’ ear.
“Oh please. He would dive off a cliff to save you, but he’d be the one to push me off thinking that it was play-time.”
“I think he’d surprise you.” Hiccup wandered around Toothless and climbed onto the saddle. “C’mon.”
“C’mon, what?” You asked, puzzled.
“We’re going for a ride.” He held out his arm for you.
“Right now?”
“I think that’s what I’m asking…”
“Hiccup… You just got back from…”
“And I want to spend some time with you. So… please.” He gestured again and Toothless made a sound like he wanted you to join them too.
“I’m not playing drop and fetch, though. I mean it.”
“I promise.”
You took ahold of Hiccup’s hand, ignoring the tight, fluttering, sensation in your chest and allowed him to pull you up in front of him. You’d tried sitting behind him once and had nearly fallen off when Toothless did a nose dive, so ever since you’d been riding up front.
Hiccup’s arms tightened around you and grabbed ahold of where he needed to guide Toothless.
“Ready?” He asked, his voice sending goosebumps over your skin from how close he was.
You nodded.
And you took off.
✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️
The first part of the flight was always the scariest.
Toothless shot up into the sky, making you lean back into Hiccup more and Hiccup hold onto you a little tighter.
Once you levelled out, you soared through the clouds.
It was so serene up here, you envied how free the dragons just feel every time they fly. With the sun in the distance, feeling like you’re shooting towards it, it feels like something out of a dream.
You closed your eyes, let out a deep breath and allowed your other sense to take over. The sound of air whipping around you as you flew at speed. The taste of the cold air as you passed through clouds. The smell of dragon - it was weirdly comforting. And the touch of Hiccup. The last one brought you the most comfort of all.
“I could stay up here forever.” You said.
“I wish we could.”
“Toothless probably wouldn’t be a fan of flying forever.” You leant over to scratch Toothless behind the ear and he softly grumbled in reply.
“He probably would be if it was for you. Me on the other hand? Pfft, forget about it.”
“Oh please. Your bud would do anything for you. I mean he literally saved you from one of the biggest fire explosions I’ve ever seen.”
“And you’ve seen lots of them have you?” He joked, making you nudge your elbow back into his ribs. “Okay, okay!”
A few minutes of silence passed by, just you two and Toothless effortlessly gliding amongst the clouds.
“I wanted to talk to you about something.” Hiccup said.
“Okay.”
“I… I just…It’s…”
“Hiccup, if it’s about something that happened on your scouting mission with Astrid then I already know.” You tilted your head around a little to see him. His face was full of confusion and you gave him the slightest smile even though you could feel your heart dropping through your chest.
“You do?”
“Yeah I thought it was pretty obvious.”
“Okay.. Well, yeah.. I mean…”
“You don’t have to talk to me about it Hiccup. It’s none of my business.”
You turned back around, not wanting to hear much more about how Hiccup had fallen for Astrid. How they were now together. How you were completely out of the picture now.
“Wait… What?” Hiccup exclaimed, making you jump a little from how loud he shouted in your ear.
Toothless looked back for a moment with a devilsome grin on his normally innocent face.
“Bud…?” Hiccup asked warily.
Toothless must’ve thought that Hiccup said something different, because it was at that moment that Hiccup realised you two were no longer going to enjoy the sunset or clouds.
Toothless took the opportunity to tilt downwards, before plummeting through the sky towards the ocean.
You screamed as Hiccup tried his best to get Toothless to listen to him - unsuccessfully.
Hiccup’s arms tightened infinitely around you as he tried to control Toothless the best he could, but there was no stopping this big lump of scales.
Toothless dive right to the seawater before gliding straight across it for a brief moment, then shooting right back up in the sky again.
“Bud, seriously… What are you playing at?”
As you got up to some height, Toothless spread his wings as far as he could then.
“Oh no.” Hiccup sighed.
Then you were all falling down backwards. Toothless had his tongue sticking out as if he was enjoying every moment of this, whereas you were hanging on for dear life.
“Toothless!” Hiccup shouted, kicking his leg in a certain way to control Toothless’ tail better.
Everything calmed down a little after that, Toothless going back to gliding as you made your way home to Berk now the sun had set.
“You and I are having words when we get back, bud.” Hiccup tried to sound stern but it was well known that the dragon would be the one to get his way.
✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️
As you stepped off Toothless your legs took some time to regain familiarity with solid ground.
Then as the adrenaline was wearing off, you started laughing - letting out all of the wired energy. You stood up tall after letting your legs have a moment, only to turn around to see Hiccup standing close in front of you.
You’d missed the moment where Toothless nudges Hiccup closer towards you, but it you’d had seen it then it would’ve made this next part less unexpected.
A dragon always knows.
“What?” You let out a small, nervous, laugh. “Hiccup, what?”
Hiccup hummed to himself, with a small smile on his face.
“Astrid was right.” He said.
Your face went neutral, trying to hide the fact you were affected by Hiccup bringing up Astrid.
“Right about what?”
“About how big of a dumbass I am.” He stepped closer.
“I don’t…” Your brows furrowed.
Hiccup moved forwards again, reaching out to ghost his palm over your cheek. You looked towards his palm slightly, nervous about what he was doing.
Your breath hitched when his skin made contact with yours.
He was so close in front of you, you’d frozen to the spot with anticipation over whatever he was doing.
“Hiccup.” You whispered.
Toothless shrunk into the shadows of the background as night fell, leaving you too alone to stand on what felt like the top of the world - together.
“Everyone told me I should’ve said something sooner.” Hiccup said, more to himself than to you.
“Hiccup, you’re not making any sense.”
“No. What doesn’t make any sense is my feelings for you!” He reached to hold the other side of your cheek now, framing your face so he could keep your focus on him, “What doesn’t make sense is that I feel lost when you’re not near. I feel weak when I haven’t seen you in days. I feel a…a.. sort of tight feeling in my chest every time you’re around. What doesn’t make sense is how I fell for someone like you, when I’m someone… like me…”
Hiccup dropped his hands, eyes widening as if he’d been in a trance when he had been talking.
You watched him stand there, watching you with nervousness now.
“What doesn’t make sense to me is how someone as great and as clever as the great Chief of Birk, couldn’t possibly understand how someone like me really likes him.”
You nervously gulp as you watch realisation take over his face.
“Wait… really?”
“Pretty sure.” You smiled.
“Well I guess we’re both dumbasses.”
Hiccup extended his arm to wrap on the side of your waist, pulling you towards him and not stopping until your lips were close enough to kiss his.
He kissed you like he’d been waiting an eternity for this moment, holding onto your waist tightly as if you’d even had thought about move away from him.
Your fingers curled around the delicate plaits in his hair that you’d tied, keeping your body taught against his.
As you both pulled away, you stayed close to one another - breathing the same air as if separate space simply wasn’t an option anymore.
You didn’t say anything - you didn’t have to - but you did have to chuckle at the situation.
Not even an hour ago you’d been heartbroken at the thought that his heart belonged to someone else. Now you realised that his heart had never been set on anyone but you. It had been you all along. And you knew, because your heart felt exactly the same way.
