summary: you ignore luke's warnings about jacks commitment, only leading to your heartbreak.
warnings: bsf ! luke hughes x reader, jack hughes x reader, angst, (implied but not really) unrequited love, jack being a terrible boyfriend, age gap but not really? (2 years)
word count: 3.55k
For as long as everyone could remember it had been you and Luke. You had met in childhood and your bond had been immediate. It was as if the universe conspired to bring the two of you together in an inseparable bond. You soon became a part of the Hughes familyās rituals, joining them most summers as they went to their lake house in Michigan.
Jack, Lukeās older brother, however, had always been a different story. Jack was the kind of guy who turned heads wherever he went, drawing people in with his effortless charm and a smile that could light up a room. He was adored by many and you were no exception.
Jack had never really paid much mind to you growing up. To him, you were just Lukeās friend. You were always around, spending several summers at the Hughesās lake house, but he never looked your way with any particular interest. He was the cool older kid, focused on hockey and his own friends, and you were just a fixture in the background. He honestly forgot about you when he moved to New Jersey.
But when you moved to New Jersey for college, you changed. The change did you good; you grew up, you found your style, you became more confident. You had a glow-up that turned heads wherever you went. Then you were suddenly back in Jackās life when Luke joined him in New Jersey. You werenāt just the little kid from down the street anymore; youād grown up, and Jack noticed.
The first time Jack noticed you was when the team had gone out after a game and Luke had invited you along. As you got to know Lukeās new teammates, you couldnāt help but notice Jackās gaze lingering on you. There was a flicker of something new in his gaze, something that made your heart skip a beat. When you wrapped up your conversation with Dawson, he walked over, flashing you a grin that made your knees weak. āHey,ā he said. āHavenāt seen you in ages. You look great.ā
It started with little things, a flirty comment here and there, you going to games at Jack's request, and before you knew it, you and Jack were dating. Luke was initially taken aback by this sudden change. It irked him, not because he didnāt want you to be happy, but because he had always seen you, appreciated you, and now Jack was swooping in with his newfound attention. Seeing you with his brother brought about mixed feelings. He loved seeing you happy, but there was a part of him that was protective, wary of Jackās intentions.
Jack was charming and fun, but he was also notoriously noncommittal. Luke knew his brother better than anyone. He had seen Jack go through relationships with an almost casual disregard, enjoying the thrill of the chase more than the stability of a long-term commitment. It wasnāt long before Lukeās concern grew into a quiet, nagging worry. He watched as you threw yourself wholeheartedly into the relationship, your eyes lighting up at every text from Jack, your weekends revolving around his hockey schedule and social events.
However, Jackās habit of non-commitment soon showed itself as he began cancelling dates last minute. At first, it was the occasional change of plans due to practice running late or spontaneous team dinners and you were understanding. You knew how demanding Jackās schedule could be, and you didnāt want to be the reason he missed out on important moments with his team. But as the weeks went by, the excuses became more frequent and less plausible, especially when Luke was never part of the team outings or stayed late for practice.
There were times when youād get ready for a planned dinner, excitement bubbling within you, only to receive a text from Jack an hour before, saying he couldnāt make it. You would sit there, staring at your reflection in the mirror, feeling the sting of disappointment settle in. Yet, you brushed it off, convinced that things would get better once Jackās schedule eased up.
Luke, meanwhile, watched this pattern unfold. He noticed the way your face would fall when you received those last-minute cancellations, the way you tried to hide your hurt behind a brave smile. He wanted to say something, to protect you from the pain he saw coming, but he didnāt want to seem like he was undermining your happiness.
One Friday night, after Jack had bailed on yet another date, you found yourself sitting alone in your apartment, a bottle of wine on the table and your favorite movie playing. You paused the movie after there was a soft knock on your door. You opened it, Luke standing across from you carrying a pizza box and a sympathetic smile.
āThought you might want some company,ā he said. You offered him a weak smile, letting him in. He set the pizza down on the table and flopped onto the couch beside you.
The movie played on and as the hours passed, you felt the weight of your relationship worries lift. But as the night wore on and the wine bottle emptied, Luke couldnāt keep his concerns to himself any longer.
āListen, I donāt want to overstep,ā he began hesitantly, ābut Iām worried about you. About Jack. Heās not treating you the way you deserve.ā
You sighed, swirling the last of your wine in your glass. āI know heās been flaky, but he cares about me. I just⦠I think heās overwhelmed right now.ā
āMaybe,ā Luke conceded. āBut you deserve someone who makes you a priority, not an afterthought. I hate seeing you get hurt.ā
You considered Lukeās words for a moment, briefly questioning your importance to Jack. The memories of canceled plans and unreturned calls surfaced, but you quickly pushed them aside. Despite everything, you couldnāt help but feel a defensive pang in your chest. āI know Jack can be a bit flaky, but heās different with me. I know he cares,ā you insisted, your voice firm, though a hint of doubt lingered.
Lukeās expression softened, his concern etched deeply in his features. āI just donāt want to see you getting hurt because youāre more invested than he is. You mean a lot to me, and I hate seeing you disappointed.ā
You brushed off Lukeās concerns, determined to prove him wrong. You wanted to believe in Jack, in the potential of your relationship, and you were committed to making it work. Every time Jack flaked on a plan or sent a last-minute cancellation text, you told yourself it was just a phase, a rough patch that all couples go through.
Because on the rare occasions when Jack did follow through with your plans, those moments felt magical. The way he would laugh at your jokes, the warmth of his hand in yours, the stolen kisses in crowded placesāall of it made you feel special like you were the most important person in his world. It was in those fleeting moments that you clung to the belief that Jack truly cared for you.
Then came your birthday.
Your 21st birthday was something you had been looking forward to for a while now. You never did much for your previous birthdays, but you decided to go all out for your 21st. You were hosting a party at your place and made it an open invitation. Your friends were coming, your co-workers were coming, and you had told Jack and Luke to invite their teammates.
You and your closest friends spent the day getting ready and setting up to host everyone. The living room was transformed with decorations perfectly suited to you.
In the days prior, youād made sure to remind Jack repeatedly so that he wouldnāt forget. Each time, heād reassured you with a smile and a promise, āIāll be there, donāt worry.ā You held onto that promise, convinced that this time, he wouldnāt let you down.
As the evening approached, your apartment buzzed with energy. The doorbell rang frequently, bringing waves of guests, laughter, and gifts. You greeted everyone with a radiant smile, your excitement growing with each new arrival. Luke arrived early, carrying a beautifully wrapped present (that you knew heād gotten gift-wrapped at the mall) and wearing a grin that made you feel instantly better about the night.
āThis is for you,ā he said, handing you the gift. āHappy birthday!ā
āThanks, Luke,ā you replied, hugging him tightly. āIām so glad youāre here.ā
āWouldnāt miss it for the world,ā he said sincerely.
The night progressed, music played, people danced, and the atmosphere was filled with joy. You floated from group to group, making sure everyone was having a good time, but your eyes kept darting to the door, waiting for Jack.
Just as you were beginning to resign yourself to the fact that Jack wasnāt going to show, the doorbell rang again. You rushed to answer it, hope flaring in your chest. But it wasnāt Jack. It was Dawson and John, looking slightly awkward.
āHey, happy birthday!ā John said, handing you a gift bag. āSorry Jack couldnāt make it. He, uh, had something come up.ā
Your heart sank. āOh, thanks, John,ā you said, trying to keep your voice steady. āCome on in you guys, join the party.ā
They both nodded and joined the crowd, leaving you standing by the door, a forced smile on your face.
Luke watched from across the room the whole evening, noticing how your smile seemed to fade with every passing minute. He knew you were hurting and it pained him to see you trying so hard to keep it together. The hours ticked by, your forced smile becoming increasingly strained, your eyes glancing at the door every few minutes.
The lively chatter and laughter of the party contrasted sharply with the growing shadow over your features. Luke could see the small signs of your distress that others missed; the way your fingers fidgeted with the hem of your dress, the deep breaths you took to steady yourself, the hollow look in your eyes every time you glanced at your phone, hoping for a message that never came.
He remembered how excited you had been for tonight, how you had spent days planning every detail to perfection. This was supposed to be a special evening, a night to celebrate with friends and the man you loved. Instead, it had turned into an agonizing wait, each tick of the clock a reminder of Jack's absence.
As the evening wore on and the party wound down, guests began to filter out. As your close friends left, they offered sympathetic looks and polite comments about Jackās absence that were thinly veiled with pity. Luke's heart ached as he saw you nod and smile, your mask slipping just a little more each time. By the time the last of the guests had said their goodbyes, Jack was still a no-show.
You retreated to the back patio, your forced brave facade crumbling as you sank onto the sofa, letting the tears fall. The cool night air did little to soothe the storm of emotions inside you. Luke had watched you slip out to the porch, hesitating a moment before following you.
Luke stepped out on the deck, spotting you curled up on the sofa. When you turned to look at Luke, the moon glinted off your tear-stained cheeks. Quickly, you wiped away the tears with the back of your hand, turning your head away from the curly-haired boy whose pitiful expression made you feel even smaller.
Lukeās chest tightened with anger and sorrow, his heart aching at the sight of your pain. He took a deep breath, trying to steady his emotions, but the anger bubbled up, not directed at you, but rather at his brother whoād failed to show despite your repeated reminders. What could he possibly be doing that is more important than his girlfriend's birthday? He clenched his fists, knuckles white against the backdrop of the night, his frustration nearly palpable.
āHey,ā he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. He took a tentative step closer, the wooden boards of the deck creaking under his weight. āAre you okay?ā
You kept your gaze away from Luke. āIām fine, Luke.ā
He hesitated for a moment, then moved to sit beside you on the sofa. āY/n⦠Iām sorry he didnāt show.ā
Slowly, you turned to face him, your eyes red and puffy from crying. āItās fine. You were right.ā you say, voice cracking and raw with emotion. āI am way more committed than Jack ever was and I was stupid to think otherwise! I get it. You donāt need to come out here and rub it in my face.ā
Lukeās expression softened, the anger dissipating, replaced by a deep sadness. He reached out tentatively, placing a hand on your shoulder, his touch warm and reassuring. āIām not here to rub anything in your face, Y/n. Iām here because I care about you.ā
You shook your head, tears threatening to spill over again. āItās just⦠I thought he would change, you know? I believed he cared as much as I did. But I guess I was just fooling myself.ā You pull your eyes off Lukeās, not being able to bear his sorry expression. āI figured I could make him fall as in love with me as I am with him.ā
Luke stayed silent, allowing you to speak every thought that was bearing down on your mind. You looked down at your hands, feeling a fresh wave of grief. āI thought he was that person,ā you whispered. āI thought we were building something real.ā
Lukeās anger now seemed to come back, a protective fury. āJackās an idiot,ā he said, his voice steady but filled with a quiet intensity. āHe doesnāt deserve you. He never did.ā
You dropped your head, a sob wracking your body. Luke brought an arm around your shoulder, pulling you in and allowing you to rest the weight of your body against his. Your tears fell to his t-shirt, soaking the blue material. Luke held you tightly as the storm of emotions brewing inside of you came out.
For a while, the only sounds were your quiet sobs and the gentle rustling of the leaves in the night breeze. Luke didnāt say anything, mostly because his thoughts were reserved for anger directed at his brother, and that likely wasnāt what you wanted to hear at that moment. His hand moved in soothing circles on your back, offering silent reassurance.
Eventually, Luke drew you inside, bringing you to your bedroom. Your tears had waned, but the sadness remained on your face. Luke had gotten you settled in bed and was just about to leave when your soft voice broke through the quiet.
āLuke?ā you asked, your voice fragile. āCan you stay for a bit? I donāt want to be alone right now.ā
Luke stopped at the door, his hand resting on the frame as he turned back to look at you. The sight of your tear-streaked face and the vulnerability in your eyes tugged at his heartstrings. He nodded slowly, his expression softening further.
"Of course, y/n," he replied gently, crossing the room to sit on the edge of your bed.
He could see the exhaustion etched into your features, a mix of emotional and physical fatigue. Without another word, he kicked off his shoes and moved to lie down beside you. You shifted closer to him, curling into his side. The moonlight filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle glow over the room.
As the minutes ticked by, your eyes grew heavier, the emotional exhaustion finally catching up with you. Luke held you, watching your breathing steady, indicating that you had finally drifted off to sleep. Even then, he stayed awake, his mind racing with thoughts of his brother and the pain he had caused you. Anger simmered beneath the surface, but he forced himself to stay calm. Right now, you needed comfort, not his fury.
After Luke was sure you had fallen completely asleep, he slipped out to the living area. He continued to clean up after the guests before eventually crashing on your couch. He couldnāt bring himself to leave you or go to his apartment where he presumed Jack was, completely oblivious to the hurt heād caused.
When morning came, Luke left reluctantly for practice, but only after youād assured him you were fine. But despite your promises, Luke knew you were still hurting. He drove to the rink for practice, his mind already racing with what he needed to say to Jack.
When Luke entered the locker room, he spotted Jack standing in front of Nico who was sitting in his locker. He laughed with his teammate as if nothing was wrong. As if Luke hadnāt just left your apartment, leaving a girl with tear-stained cheeks and questioning her self-worth.
Fury boiled within Luke. Without thinking, he stormed over and shoved Jack. āWhat the hell is wrong with you?ā
Jack stumbled back, surprise and anger flashing in his eyes. āWhatās your problem, Luke?ā
āMy problem?ā Luke shouted, his fists clenched at his sides. He stepped back into Jack's face. āDo you know what day it was yesterday?ā
Jack returned the shove, sending Luke back a step. āWhat the fuck are you talking about?ā
āYou remember that you have a girlfriend, right?ā Luke asked.
Jackās face fell as he remembered the date, pinching the bridge of his nose between his fingers. āFuck,ā he whispered under his breath.
"You didn't show up. Do you have any idea how much that hurt her?" Luke asked.
By now the guys that were in the equipment room or the gym had come into the locker room to investigate what was the source of the raised voices. They crowded the entrances, watching the two brothers who were seemingly at a standoff.
Jackās expression hardened, but guilt was evident in his eyes. āNo one reminded me,ā he muttered defensively.
Lukeās anger boiled over at the excuse, stepping forward to shove his brother again, but Nico pulled him back. Timo stepped in, bringing back Jack who was ready to meet his brother's fury. The commotion had now drawn the attention of Keefe, who barrelled through the guys in the doorways. He observed the scene before him, both Hughes brothers who were equally red in the face, being held back by their teammates.
āThe hell is going on in here?ā he asked. Both boys remained silent, the others not speaking as they still werenāt quite sure what was going on. āSomeone wanna fucking tell me?ā
Luke turned to look at his new head coach, hurt remaining in his eyes. āJust settling something that needs to be settled, Coach.ā
Keefeās gaze shifted between the two, reading the volatile atmosphere. āTake it outside. Now. Both of you.ā
Nico and Timo let go of each boy, letting them walk into the now-empty gym. The team watched them go, a heavy silence settling in the locker room as the door swung shut behind them.
āHow could you do that to her?ā Luke demanded once they were alone, pacing back and forth. āSheās been nothing but good to you, and you couldnāt even show up for her birthday?ā
Jack rubbed his temples, his frustration evident. āYou think I don't feel bad about it? It slipped my mind, okay?ā
āIt slipped your mind? She reminded you about a dozen times.ā Luke spat back incredulously. āSheās not some random girl you can just forget about. Sheās your girlfriend, Jack. She deserves better than this.ā
Jack's shoulders sank as he turned away from Luke. āShe was devastated, Jack. I was the one who had to comfort her. Me! Your little brother!ā Luke continued. āI was the one that stayed by her side while she cried over her boyfriend who forgot her birthday. I stayed up all night to make sure she was okay.ā
Jack turned to look at Luke a confused, almost hurt look on his face. āYou stayed with her?ā When Luke didnāt reply, Jackās expression darkened. āThatās low, even for you, Luke. Youāve always liked her, havenāt you? This was your chance to sabotage us.ā
āAre you insane?ā Luke shot back, his eyes blazing with anger. āY/n was my friend long before she was your girlfriend. I stayed because she needed someone, and you werenāt there. No one else was.ā
Luke's words hung in the air, thick with unspoken truths and simmering emotions. Jack's face twisted with a mix of anger and confusion. āYou expect me to believe that you were just being the good guy?ā
Luke took a deep breath, struggling to keep his voice steady. āIām not here to fight about who likes her more, Jack. Iām here because you hurt someone who didnāt deserve it. She trusted you, and you let her down.ā
Jack sunk down to one of the benches, his defenses finally crumbling. āYou need to figure out what you want, Jack,ā Luke finally said, his voice laced with disappointment. āBecause if you keep hurting her, youāre going to lose her. And youāll have no one to blame but yourself.ā
Luke stormed out of the gym, past the guys who still lingered in the locker room, leaving Jack behind in the wake of his words.

doomsday
based off of doomsday by lizzy mcalpine!
summary: Quinn Hughes and Elouise āellieā were high school sweethearts. Everyone surrounding them were just waiting for the day that Quinn would pop the question. What happens when Quinn turns cold?
warnings: sad quinn, sad reader, kind of asshole quinn, angst a little bit
Quinn and Ellie had been dating since their freshman year of high school, to be more specific November of 2013. They were so deeply in love, when quinn went to the University of Michigan, Ellie followed. When Quinn had to move to Vancouver, he bought an apartment for the two of them. There truly was no Quinn without Ellie and vice versa. They made their apartment a home, even buying a dog right before quarantine in March of 2020. Their relationship never once faltered. That is until Ellie got a job offer in Michigan in September of 2022. Ellieās dream had always been to be a physical trainer for a sports team. While Quinn tried and tried for the Canucks to hire her, they just simply did not need another trainer. It never crossed Quinnās mind that Ellie could possibly consider leaving Vancouver to work. I mean Vancouver had been their home for the past 5 years, Quinn had been her home for the past 9. Eloise had found out about this job last month, she had told quinn right when she found out, since that day he had been nothing but cold. A shell of the man she loved.
āEl I just donāt understand why you would go and apply for this job in Michigan, do you not care about me?.ā Quinn had never raised his voice at Ellie, not in all her years of knowing him. āQuinn this is my dream, you know that. Iāve followed you every step of the way since we went to college, Iāve been working towards this job since senior year of high school. Iām not going to let it get away.ā Eloise could feel her body start to over heat, her eyes get watery and blurry and her throat starting to close. Why couldnāt Quinn understand? āI told you that you donāt have to work I can provide for you Elā Quinn started yelling. āYouāve had no problem letting me take care of everything and pay for the past 5 years so whatās the problem now.ā āAre you insinuating that I have been using you?ā Ellie was furious now. How could Quinn, her perfect boyfriend who has never raised his voice or ever mistreated her say imply such a thing? āItās not insinuating, if I am straight up saying it Eloise.ā Quinn had completely run cold. āOkay, you know what quinn Iām booking my flight for tomorrow morning. I start next week. I thought my boyfriend would be happy Iām finally getting what Iāve been dreaming about, but I guess not.ā Eloise already had started packing earlier that day while quinn was at training. āEloise if you take this job we are over.ā Quinn said with a shaky voice, tears brimming just above his waterline. āI guess weāre over than, Iāll get my stuff and go to a hotel tonight.ā Eloise was trying her hardest to keep her composure. She knew it had to have been a heat of the moment thing, but even then, if he is that willing to throw 9 years down the drain over a little distance, maybe he wasnāt the one.
āPull the plug in September I don't want to die in June I'd like to start planning my funeral I've got work to do
Pull the plug, make it painless I don't want a violent end Don't say that you'll always love me 'Cause you know I'd bleed myself dry for you over and over againā
It was now December 23 2023
Ever since Eloise left that night she had not seen or spoken to Quinn. He had not reached out and neither had she. It would be a lie to say that she had not thought about texting him everyday. However, as far as she knows he is living his bachelor life up in Vancouver. She knew Quinn would be coming back home to Michigan for Christmas, as he did every year. Last Christmas Eloise had opted on buying herself and her mom a week long cruise over the time period she knew Quinn would be back in their hometown. This year was different, although she still did not want to see Quinn or speak with him, she had done a lot of self evaluation and decided that maybe it was for the best that the 2 split. I mean they had been together since freshman year of high school. She truly had not known herself without the presence of Quinn, and same goes for Quinn. It could possibly be right person wrong time or simply just someone who wasnāt meant to be. Eloise was currently shopping in her local Trader Joeās when she had heard an all too familiar voice. Now itās not the voice that she had heard everyday for 9 years but it was a voice she could pick out of a lineup for sure. It was the voice of the little brother she never had. āYup, okay Jack Iāll get that fried rice you like. Oh my god leave me alone youāre such a child.ā Luke groaned loudly, Eloise let out a quiet laugh at the sound of this conversation, knowing the antics of her old second family all too well. She was in the aisle next to luke and could still hear him loud and clear. All of a sudden the voice started sounding louder and closer. āJack I swear if you tell mom Iāllā¦ā Luke locked eyes with Ellie and looked as if he had just seen a ghost. āUh yeah jack Iāll see you when I get home.ā Right as he hung up on jack he ran to Ellie, engulfing her in a bear hug. Right as they connected Ellie could feel herself starting to get choked up and tears welling in her eyes. āOh El Iām so sorry about everything, Iām sorry I didnāt reach out, Iām so sorry.ā āItās okay lu, I know how close you and Quinn are I didnāt expect you to. I did miss you a whole lot though.ā Luke and Eloise had always been extremely close. She had known him since he was 10 and watched him grow up into an amazing hockey player and an even better person. She reminisced back to when she had first gotten her license and the first thing she did was drive Luke to hockey practice because Ellen and Jim were busy, and Quinn and Jack were out of town. He was like the brother she never had. Luke and Eloise had talked for about 5 more minutes before jack called complaining that he was out for too long and he had to eventually part ways from Ellie. After seeing Luke it made Eloise realize how much she had missed Quinn, but if it was that easy for him to walk out of her life and not reach out then it would be just as easy for him to ignore her, or to do it again. December 25, 2023
Christmas was always Eloises favorite holiday. Every year that she had been home for Christmas she would walk down a street in her town that was filled with lights and people after their Christmas dinners. This year had been no different. After her family dinner she had grabbed her coat and went to walk down the street. Now, every year she had done this walk with Quinn, this year it felt like a part of her had died on this walk. The part of her that enjoyed Christmas, or any holiday for that matter. She had realized on this walk she had become a shell of the person she once was. She had realized how pathetic she probably looked to an outsider. It was never about not knowing herself outside of being in a relationship with Quinn, it was the pride she took in it, how he made her a better person, he pushed her to chase after her dreams, he did all that he could to get her every resource possible so that she could follow her dreams. All in all she realized that sheās the villain in her own story. Yes, Quinn had blown up on her when he really had no right to, but she was the one who packed all of her stuff without telling him, she was the one who left their shared home of the past 5 years without a word, and she was the one who had blocked his phone number meaning to have unblocked it by the next morning. As Eloise realized she never unblocked his phone number she broke. What if he had tried reaching out to fix everything? What if he missed her as much as she missed him and she would never know? Quinnās perspective:
A piece of Quinn had died a little bit with every text he had sent to Eloises phone number and every time it had shown up as not delivered. Quinn had been siliently dying inside due to his ego not wanting to tell anyone about the breakup, although everyone could tell something was wrong. He had kept up with her life ever since they split. He as well was a shell of a person ever since she had walked out that door. He texted her everyday multiple times without fail, he had called her at least once a day to hear her voice and laugh on the answering machine. He knew that Christmas was her favorite holiday and he knew she was in town because Luke had told him. So he had decided to text her to wish her a Merry Christmas.
āThe death of me was so quiet No friends and family allowed Only my murderer, you And the priest who told you to go to hell And the funny thing is I would've married you If you'd have stuck aroundā
Eloise had felt her phone buzz in her pocket
Qš: Merry Christmas El, I know today is your favorite. Remember our first Christmas together when you still had braces and a unibrow lol. You still were the most beautiful girl I had ever laid my eyes on, well I mean you still are but you get the point. I know you wonāt see this message and havenāt seen the other probably millions of texts Iāve sent, I still love you and will continue to love you for as long as Iām living but I think itās doing me more harm then good. Until we (hopefully) meet again my Ellie girl.
āI had no choice in the matter Why would I? It's only the death of meā

accidentally in love
Based off of Accidentally in love by counting crows!!
warnings: drinking, swearing a little bit
my first piece!!! Itās not that great, just wanted something to put out and was bored this morning so decided to write this. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any requests!
Summary: Luke and y/n have known each other for as long as they can remember. What happens one summer night when y/n finds Luke awfully close to a girl? I mean they are only just friends⦠right?
Overview of Luke and y/n relationship
Luke and y/n have been friends since they were born; as Ellen and Julie (y/n mom) were roommates in college. By some weird coincidence Jim and Allan (y/n dad) had been childhood best friends. This has caused them to grow up across the street from each other. If you think about it, itās destiny really. Anyways, Luke and y/n always say they are āplatonic soulmatesā but who are they trying to fool with the use of the word platonic? Itās definitely not any of their family members so themselves and eachother must be the ones they are trying to convince their feelings are strictly platonic..
It was a perfect boat day, the sun was warm and shining and the water was a perfect mix between cold and warm, but refreshing nonetheless. Y/n was sitting next to Luke with her legs stretched out in his lap, his hands atop them, Quinn driving, with jack, Trevor, cole and Alex fighting over who gets to wakeboard next and who gets aux. Jack happened to win both of those arguments somehow. Jack had been saying he was going to be throwing a little party tonight since it was the first week everyone was officially back at the lake. āJack your parties always end with something bad happeningā Y/n mentioned. Jack shot her a look of disbelief. āUmmm last time I checked nothing bad has ever happened to me at one of them, only the rest of you idiotsā. In reality jack was right, at his first party Quinnās girlfriend broke up with him over text. The next, Trevor broke the glass sliding door. The one last summer, the cops showed up and kicked everyone out because it was too loud but jack wasnāt around at that moment so Luke said he was in charge and ended up getting a fine. āIām gonna bring the boat back we should start getting stuff for tonight and getting readyā Quinn told the group. A string of okays came from everyone. Y/n pov:
Right when the boat docks everyone runs off to go get ready for tonight. Luke and I go to our room- yup we share a room but I mean all best friends do⦠right? Our room has two full size beds but last summer we pushed them together to make a mega bed. Now itās really no secret that Iāve been hopelessly in love with Luke for as long as I can remember. Everyone knows it. Sometimes if Luke talks about another girl or if he is talking to one and myself or anyone sees it they shoot me a look of pity. I mean itās pathetic really, being in love with your best friend since you were legit born and not even being able to tell him. I mean weāve done everything together our whole lives, I even went to umich for him. Thereās times that I think that maybe just maybe we could be something more but every time, wannabe frat boy Luke screws it up and flirts with a girl in front of me or talks about a girl in front of me. I mean itās not his fault- he has no idea. I was listening to some music before the door swung open and in came Luke ākit, you wanna take a shower first or should I? Or we could save water and shower togetherā Luke shot me a wink while wiggling his eyebrows. Kit is a nickname the three boys gave me when we were 5 because I loved cats and anytime I saw one whether it be a picture or in person I would shout kit as loud as I could. I may act like I hate it but I love it, I think of it as some form of love. āshut up Luke, you shower first get away from me.ā I say while giggling and hoping my face doesnāt betray my words by getting red and hot from the blush I so desperately am trying to hide. āWhatever you say kitā he says as he comes closer to me to give me a hug. The second we hug our song starts to play. So she said, "What's the problem, baby?" What's the problem? I don't know Well, maybe I'm in love (love) Think about it every time I think about it Can't stop thinking 'bout it
The second the song starts to play Luke starts twirling me around, spinning me in his arms. Little does he know this song is literally describing my life. Ugh how I hate Luke hughes for making me feel this way. ~time skip to later that night when jacks party is in full swing~
so far jack has made me take 3 shots of some nasty tequila heās only drinking to look cool in front of girls and other guys. Iāve had 2 seltzerās also so far so Iām starting to feel tipsy, keep in mind Iām not much of a drinker I prefer to smoke if Iām being honest. I havenāt seen much of Luke for the past hour, which if I wasnāt tipsy I would probably be freaking out but right now Iām having a good time. Until I look over to the backyard and see some girl with her chest pressed against Luke and his arm around luke⦠my Luke. I could A.) go outside and cause a scene or B.) just go find some guy to flirt with. Both options arenāt great because the first one I would definitely embarrass myself and have Luke be mad at me and the second, well Iām not the best at talking to guys. Now Iām no Virgin Mary but definitely not experienced enough to be confident in talking to or hooking up with a guy. Except for one guy, Trevor. Trevor has flirted with me since the day I met him. I always flirted back to the best of my ability but in reality he knows how I feel about Luke and I know that he will never compare to Luke, but whatās the harm in trying to make Luke jealous? āheyy trevā I say while going into his side forcing his arm to go around me. āWhatās up kit? You having fun? Sure sounds like itā he says with a low laugh. āI am but I need your help with somethingā āAnything for you kitā as those words leave his lips I feel heat rush to my face. Must be the alcohol. āCan you help me try and make Luke jealous, heās talking to a girl outside right now and I canāt stand to watch itā I say as I can feel tears brimming my eyes. āOf course I can, you know I love to get on all of the hughesā nerves.ā He definitely has a point there. Trevor and I take two more shots for āgood luckā as we go outside. I see the girl talking to Luke and sheās beautiful, beautiful like she just stepped out of vouge. My body starts to feel hot with jealousy, I turn to Trevor and heās sitting down in an Adirondack chair by the fire so I take a seat on his lap, facing him. Trevorās hands rest on my hips, again I canāt tell if itās the alcohol or not but Trevor is looking really good right now. Until I hear the sound of accidentally in love playing from the speakers and hear Luke come up to Trevor āHey have you seen y/n our songs onā I turn around and all of a sudden Lukeās body tenses, fists clenched and eyes flash an emotion Iāve only seen a few times, something like anger or jealousy even, thereās no way heās jelaous I thought.
āOh hey Luā I say innocently while in the background all that can be heard is
āWell, baby, I surrender To the strawberry ice cream Never ever end of all this love Well, I didn't mean to do it But there's no escaping your love, ohā
Luke grabs my arm and leads me up the stairs to our room. āWhat the hell do you think your doing y/nā Luke says, face red with anger. āLuke what is your problemā now Iām getting angry. Why is it okay for him to be all over other girls but Iām with one guy WHO WE KNOW and itās a problem? āWhy were you all up on Trevorās lap like some kind of āā he stops himself. āSome kind of what Luke? Tell meā He shoots me a look as if I am the one who just implied he was a slut. I go to try and walk out of the door when Lukes arm reaches out and grabs me. āwhy were you sitting on his lap you only ever sit on mineā Luke says looking defeated. Why am I starting to feel bad? āI just was talking to him and thatās how we were sitting, I donāt know Luā āweāre you going to hook up with him?ā The question lingers in the air. Was I? I mean Trevorās hot and all but I only really have eyes for Luke but like I said Luke is never gonna happen he doesnāt even have feelings for me. āI donāt know, I mean if something happened I wasnāt gonna stop it.ā Luke just dead stares at me. āYou canāt hook up with Trevor, you just canāt.ā āI can hook up with whoever I want to Lukeā
He takes a step closer to me so now weāre only an inch apart. My body feels like itās on fire, looking up at him with the soft glow of the moon outside he looks like an angel. Ugh What am I saying Iām supposed to be pissed at him right now. āLuke Iā Within a second Lukeās lips are on mine. For a moment everything seems right, our lips fit perfectly together like a missing puzzle piece to the old puzzle youāve had for years and youāre only missing that one piece, when finally you find it in the most blatant of spots. We pull apart and when I open my eyes Luke is smiling at me. āIāve wanted to do that for so long kit.ā He says as this thumbs are rubbing across my cheeks. āLu can I tell you something?ā āAnything.ā āI think I accidentally fell in love with you a long time ago.ā I say and Lukeās smile gets even bigger if that was even possible. āI think I accidentally fell in love with you a long time ago too.ā
āI'm in love, I'm in love I'm in love, I'm in love I'm in love, I'm in love Accidentally
Come on, come on Spin a little tighter Come on, come on And the world's a little brighter Come on, come on Just get yourself inside her love I'm in loveā
