My initial plans for this blog
At first, I was very interested in the thought of using Tumblr as my main host, because Tumblr seemed more open to free expression and less censorious than any of its competitors. One can apparently post nude photos and other mature content, without the company enforcing standards that would have been considered prudish even by Victorian standards, as (alas) is the norm in this industry. But the problem is that Tumblr turns out to be censorious, itself, just in a strange way.
Asking around in the real world, I've run into numerous complaints of blogs on Tumblr being deleted without cause. The former owners of these blogs were left wondering if Tumblr employees had some sort of quota of blogs to delete, or if they just destroyed user content for the lulz. Either way, the message is the same: anybody could be next.
For that reason, I intend to limit my exposure to risk. What will I use this blog for? IFTTT lets us post content from other sources to Tumblr, and this doesn't seem to violate any of Tumblr's rules, so I'll set that up and let people use this blog to follow my posts, elsewhere, using their Tumblr memberships. I'll reblog some of the content I find on other blogs on Tumblr, and post a few replies.
Maybe I'll upload some figure (yes, nude) photography later. No, I won't be appearing in any of these images, though I might show up on somebody else's site. I don't do a lot of self-portraiture, and also, I'm male. All models on this page will be female, because those are how my preferences run. I'm sure somebody will complain about this, because the Internet is full of people who are always looking for something to complain about, probably because they are dull people who couldn't think of much to say if they weren't screaming about something, but if so, that's their problem and I'm not going to pretend to be sympathetic.
At the moment, this blog is set to "safe for work." "Maybe" in the last paragraph did mean "maybe." I offer no promises that the photography you see on this blog will ever cease to be G rated, innocent things like flowers and sunsets that one wouldn't hesitate to show to anybody, or even that you'll ever see any photography here at all. Maybe you will, but I'm more a writer (and an amateur one at that) than a photographer, so I offer no guarantees. I just don't know, yet. I have no models lined up, and as I am poor, I can't be sure that I'll find models in the future.
We'll see. That's all I can say, except, I suppose, for one other thing - attempting to post notes on this blog will be a waste of time. I might install IntenseDebate or Typepad, but I'm not going to be open to letting Tumblr comments appear on this blog. You know the type - somebody reblogs, adds a comment and the comment appears on the post being reblogged, unless one goes into the HTML for one's blog and excises a bit of code, which I intend to do. I insist on being able to screen comments before they appear on my blog. No, that isn't censorship. Trolls, spammers and other assorted undesirables will still be free to reply to my posts on their own blogs, as long as they don't exceed the limits of fair use or otherwise break the law, they simply won't be free to litter my blog with their trash. This is why I am not thinking of using Livefyre - my understanding is that said company does not allow the user to screen comments. Perhaps I've heard wrong. I'll do a fact check on that claim, later on.
One company I will absolutely not consider, for reasons to be explained later, is Disqus. Said company uses mob moderation, and if one has their commenting system installed on one's site, one is in effect using mob moderation, as well. I want no part of that.
I've got a lot to do these days, so comment system installing and other such online frills will come later, if at all. Just be forewarned, if and when commenting is enabled, that I had no patience with and will not give a platform to either the Alt-Right or the SJWs. If you fall into either category and feel the need to let me know about that, go away. If you want to make an issue about the fact that I did not use gender-inclusive pronouns (or did not pretend that the insistence on such is a tradition of great antiquity), go find a safe space and cry on somebody else's shoulder, snowflake, because I don't want to hear about it. If you want to scream about the fact that the heroes or heroines in some of my stories (and possibly some of my models) are people of color - go get therapy, because you're crazier than the SJWs. If, on the other hand, you're as out of patience with both camps as I am, welcome. I hope you will enjoy my modest efforts.
Most of which, as I said, will be reposted from elsewhere.
