you know that thing that’s like “if breaking a law is punished by a fine, the fine is basically the price you have to pay to disregard that law”?  Like, okay, this parking spot is not Off Limits, it is just a spot with a $100 price tag?

that’s how lan wangji views rules.  there is no real intrinsic sense in him that it’s wrong to go against them, just that enduring the punishment is the “cost” for doing the thing.  It’s not like “I want to do a Thing, the Thing is against the rules, therefore, I must not do the Thing,” it’s just, how much am i willing to suffer in order to do the Thing?  when he gets frustrated with wwx for breaking the rules, it’s mostly because wwx isn’t doing the appropriate cost-benefit analysis for his rule-breaking.

this is what you get when you raise people under strict conditions where the “why” for following the rules is “because i said so.”

actually jiang cheng is the most emotionally normal character in the untamed. everyone else is either like "oh these unthinkable tragedies have happened to me... time to bear it like a hero and immediately continue doing good and noble deeds" or "hmm. unthinkable tragedies have happened to me, so i must construct an intricate plan to take down society" while jiang cheng is like "unthinkable tragedies have happened to me. i need to have a breakdown before continuing with my life"

controversial opinion maybe, but I personally think lan sizhui is much more likely to be traumatised by the realisation that the lan sect took an active part in killing what was left of his family than he is by wei wuxian being short with him a couple of times when he was four.

I am always a bit baffled that there are such strong reactions against Jiang Cheng allegedly torturing and killing a bunch of demonic cultivators in a story where the actual protagonist does in fact very explicitly and unambiguously torture a bunch of people to death in truly creative and horrifying ways, which includes not only forcing a guy to eat his own legs but also feeding his fingers to an undead baby. I mean, to each their own obviously, but like, this is where we’re going to draw the proverbial line in the sand?

idk if this is known to the non-chinese speaking fandom of cql, but the reason Luo Qingyang’s nickname is “mianmian” is because the “yang” in her name means “lamb”. And wool-sheep in chinese is “mian-yang”.  its hella cute.

Hi!! I was wondering, have you heard the audio drama version of Wangxian? I made the mistake of listening to the audio drama during dinner and it dropped the song on me without warning and I proceeded to munch on my pizza as tears streamed down my face :´) I have no idea if the translation i found is accurate but the lyrics + vocals absolutely murdered me!! Links don´t work in asks but I found it under "MDZS WangXian (English Sub)" 😭

l i s t e n I have been on the MDZS music train for the past, what is it, oh my god, like two months now, and none of the lyrics to any song have any chill, like, ever. This version of Wangxian has a lovely delicacy and romance to it that I turn to sometimes when the sweeping epicness of 无羁 Wuji gets to be a bit much

If I’m gonna be honest though, the wangxian song I discovered in my YouTube recommendations that still regularly makes me flip my shit is 问灵 Wenling / Inquiry, sung by W.K. (who, incidentally sang this song which I’d been mesmerized by for literal years). It’s not a song associated with any official adaptation of MDZS, but like… he goes off at about 2 minutes in and it makes me, as the young 'uns like to say these days, go feral
