So. I'm thinking about starting a Queer Lunar collab zine. And by thinking about I mean I am. I'm going to make a Queer Lunar collab zine!!

I want everything in it, fan art, comics, cosplay, fanfics, poems, essays, rants, personal testimonials, random comments. THE WORKS.

(Heck, I wanna include audio and video creations too, somehow.... easy to do if I make a dedicated sibeblog or website, but I really want to make this zine printable too. I guess some of use still have cd and dvd-burners, if there ended up being enough multimedia submissions to merit a disc addendum... hmmmmm :3c)

It's probably impossible to get the word out widely enough, but I'd love it if I could somehow give every queer Lunar fan (and straight/ally/questioning Lunar fans with queer headcanons/ships) the chance to contribute something to it.

Very much in the brain-go brrrrrrrrrrrrrr step of getting this project off the ground, but it feels like the time is right.

Kinda feel like I'm basically reiterating my previous post at this point, hahaha... ^^;; I guess I'm just trying to get my thoughts gathered. Feeling giddy and trying to decide what the next logical step is. :B

Refs for Ghaleon's emotional support fairies. I upscaled the bromide as best as I could a couple years ago, but the results weren't exactly crisp and clear.

So I tried reinking the fairies' lineart for fun. Not 100% accurate, but it's better than nothing. ^^;;

Also including what sprites I could find online. Lunar sprite sheets are kind of woefully incomplete in general... I started cleaning up the TSS fairies from Lunar-Net's jpg screen caps, but the compression made it a huge slog and I only got so far before I gave up.

The EB fairies come from a background sheet on Spriter's Resource, I had to isolate them myself though. But there's no actual sprite sheet for them yet. :/ (And I think I might have deleted a few pixels I shouldn't've...)

Finally SSSC and EBC share the same fairy sprites, and thankfully there was a sheet for them on Spriter's Resource in the SSSC sheets. (The EBC sheets are very sparse.)

Could not find sheets or decent screencaps of the fairies from LL or SSH. :/

Anyway, posting these in case anyone need them for reference! I put them together originally because I wanna eventually do some sprite interpretation drawings eventually... tho the completionist in me is irked I can't find anything for LL or SSH. Might have to dig up some let's plays and screencap from those I guess. :B

Oh, and at some point I'm definitely gonna recolor the lineart! Just kinda busy at the moment. ^^;;

Slowly getting the hang of figuring out how I like to create digital art!

When I first got into drawing digitally, I used to have everything in separate layers. Years later I tried to be restrictive with my layers. And now, I’ve gone back to using a lot of layers! (Ofc this depends project to project haha)

I think back to ‘How to draw manga’ books or watching YouTube videos of artists showing their process. Young me used to be such a stickler! “If this is how art is created, then that MUST mean I should copy what they do.” While it’s great to observe different approaches and introduce new ways to make art. Something I wished I learned early on was to understand that I don’t have to follow their exact way of making art all the time. Instead, focus on what parts of the process gives me a lot of joy to create and be open minded to try new things!

Lately I’ve been interested in approaching my social media more lenient, informal…? I figured it’d be nice to look back on these posts and read what my rambles were making certain pieces! We’ll see how this works out haha

It's not that Dyne's reluctant to lose some clothes, he's just got that damn unshakable protagonist inclination to BE GOOD AT GAME NO MATTER WHAT! But his luck's finally run out, Lemia and Ghaleon hit him with double Royal Flushes* and have claimed his belt sash and beret. Mel meanwhile has been basically nude for hours.

(*disclaimer: idk anything about real poker, i just play too much balatro :B)

Sometimes I sketch nicely... but 99 times out of 100 I go chaos gremlin mode and sketch as fast as I possibly can, to just get the idea out of my head and into the real world, before I completely forget what it was I even wanted to draw.

I kinda love how awful that original scribble of a sketch is, I think I was kinda sleep-deprived when the original idea popped into my head and it SHOWS. XD Cleaned up well, tho!

Great choice @musicalmeowsandcandiedlemons! This one's been waiting to be finished for at least 15 years now XD Here's basically how I left if after scanning it back in 2009:

I don't remember where I saw the dress/nightgown I sketched on Ghaleon here, but I recall it was kinda bordering the line between frumpy and ethereal in a way I found charming. Don't think I managed to capture that at all in the pencil sketch, tho! ^^;

Attempting to make the dress a little better and adding some butt to live up to the filename. XD

Several hours later, it's done! \o/

Idk if I saved the dress , or how I ended up going with this kinda vaporwave bg... but I like the butt!

The file properties say I started it on Nov 7, 2022 -- If I'm remembering right, a blood moon happened sometime around then and got me thinking about what Earth (or the Blue Star in this case) eclipsing the sun might look like from the surface of the moon. (*cough* Lunar *cough*)

And here's how the WIP looked when I opened it:

Alright, to the business at hand:

I'm going to attempt to keep this on the short side, since I can get long-winded and incomprehensible if I'm not careful, and I have a lot of queer theories, observations and headcanons to share. For, like, the entire cast of Lunar 1. So this might actually become something of a series...

Hypothesis: Dyne is gay. (Or possibly bi/poly. But definitely queer.) Or to phrase it another way, I don't think Ghaleon's feelings for Dyne are one-sided.

Exhibit A: Dyne steals Ghaleon's clothes like a smitten teenage girl.

In second arc of Akari Funato's official Lunar manga "Vane, the Story of the Inheritance" we can observe a cute and casual mutual coat and cloak swap. This on its own would be paltry evidence--IF this were the only time Dyne has done this.

But no, dear reader. It turns out that stealing Ghaleon's clothes is not only something that Dyne has done as a character--IT'S BAKED INTO HIS VERY DESIGN.

BEHOLD.

On our left, we have one of Ghaleon's prototype outfit designs. And on our right, hitting the exact same pose, is Dyne's (Laike's) finalized character design. And what's that he's wearing? A suspiciously familiar sash! (Hell, even the creamy tan cloak could be the same one he so casually "borrowed" in the manga, some 20 years earlier.)

And going back to those panels from the manga, look how they're both so comfortable wearing each other's clothes. This intimacy is clearly the norm for them.

Exhibit B: --actually, I am going to have to do this in installments or I'll never finish it. And it's already been like almost a year from the first time you asked! :B (Also I'm reminded that writing long-form essays make me an anxious wreck. So I gotta stick to small, digestible bites.)

In my recent replay of LSSSC I noticed a lot of little things that add up to paint a broad picture, but I didn't take screencaps of everything. So I kinda need to scrub thru my stream vods at some point and see if I can get captures of the dialog I'm missing.
