my firm and very sincere belief that the wayne family initiation orientation docket has many points, and addendums but the one on the top is:
"Don't start shit with Duke. God as his witness, he won't start shit but he WILL end it. "
and why?
because duke doesn't give even half a fuck, he can and will e v i s c e r a t e you.
Jason steals the last cookie? "no wonder your mom sold you out, you stupid bitch. not even death could bear you so you're back trying to make the rest of miserable. loser bitch. i'll crowbar your fucking face."
Tim makes a snarky, harmless joke at his expense? "Your mom probably drank that poison in Hawaii to get away from you. The constant flying about wasn't enough. She needed to get off the literal existential plane. all those times you thought you're a burden and no one loves you? you were right. fear toxin aint showing you your worst fears, its showing you the fucking truth. loser virgin. get the fuck out of my face"
so on and forth. Not even Bruce or Alfred are spared. Duke won't know proportional response if it hit him in the face. Regularly, daytime villains send batman complaint letters (!!!) about the signal, because damnit they're just robbing banks, no need to bring up their mommy issues into it??? with Duke, there is no passive there is only aggressive. You won't think it, looking into his warm brown eyes and his lovely, easy smile. but you will know it. by god, if you start shit, you will know it.

just because some Americans feel rage against an “elite” and want to take them down in a wave of populist sentiment doesn’t mean they’re at all good at identifying it. Some of the most intensive hatred of “elites” we’ve yet seen has been leveled at nurses and medical professionals who perform gender affirming care and reproductive health services, teachers of all stripes and subjects, librarians who won’t ban books, and high school soccer coaches who won’t take trans kids off their teams. Yeah there’s a lot of other compounding features about *why* they’re hated, many rooted in transphobia and sexism. But the point still stands: these definitionally working class professions are seen to be no longer working class and part of an “elite” for intersecting reasons of sexism and transphobia, purveyors of an evil and controlling regime, which is why everyone needs to be a hell of a lot sharper about their class politics right now.

My mother is all into homesteading and off-grid living videos right now. Every time I check up on her, this is what she wants to talk about.
It gives her a sense of peace and purpose I guess. Which is good, she’s been struggling to find that with her injuries and condition. She’s learning skills, and feeling prepared for “the worst”. Like I can’t get her to stop watching conspiracy theory bullshit on YouTube so at least this kind of content alleviates some of the anxiety the other content amplifies, because she feels like she can do something now to secure her safety later.
But to get through these conversations, I have to tell myself— hey, if natural disaster comes our way, some of this might be useful. But I know she’s not just thinking a big storm or natural disaster. She’s preparing for the collapse of society. And I don’t know how to break it to her that we wouldn’t survive that. You can make long lasting candles with crisco? Cool. Where you going to by crisco when society collapses? You’ll stock up now? Ok cool. What will you do when it runs out? Honestly, before it runs out, what will you do when people with guns come to take your various stockpiled supplies?
If we hit a point where society collapses, we’re done for. Food, medicine, etc. we can’t survive without society, without a world where people are working together trying to help each other out.
So, I’ll go through with this shit in the name of natural disaster preparedness, and because it helps her. But that’s as far as I’m willing to put energy into it. I refuse to prepare for, bet on, or hope for the collapse of society. I’d rather spend my energy trying to prevent society collapsing, what little part I can play in that. I’d rather spend my energy supporting people in my community. I’d rather work and build towards a better future, not prepare for the worst.

Okay back on my de aged Damian shit again.
What if Damian recognized Jason.
Bruce had to run to WE to pick something up and left Damian with Cass, Duke, and Tim. He was alright for the first half hour, but once he realized that Bruce wasn’t coming back right away, he started getting fussy. Tim is staying far away because he can never seem to hold Damian in a way that’s comfortable for both of them. He’s trying tho, he puts cocomelon on his laptop.
“Tim, turn that, off that shit will melt his brain.” Duke scolds as he dangles keys infront of Damian’s face. Cass is bouncing him, but it does little to quell the baby’s despair.
“What does it matter he’ll go back to normal in a couple days anyways!” Tim argues.
“What the hell is going on in here?” Jason walks in.
“Damian got babified.” Cass explains, “Bruce had to go to WE and he misses his dad.”
“And he’s making it everyone’s problem. In true Damian fashion.” Tim adds.
Damian finally lays eyes on Jason and immediately threw himself at him and cries harder. Cass catches him, but Jason also instinctively tries to catch the falling baby.
“He recognizes you!” Cass said, trying to maneuver Damian into Jason’s arms.
“Stop squirming so much.” Jason complains, but eventually Damian settles. His cheeks still red and his eyes still watery.
Cass takes a quick picture. Jason tries to grab her phone, but with a baby in his arms, he’s not going to be chasing her down.
Bruce comes home and he is elated that Jason is here and is holding Damian.
“Aw, are you having fun with Jason.”
Damian bounces happily now that his dad is back. “Great, you’re back. Take your kid.” Jason tries to pass off Damian to Bruce.
“Damian, do you want to come with me or stay with Jason?” Bruce offers out his hands.
Damian looks at Bruce, then at Jason, then back and Bruce. And then he’s throwing himself at Bruce.
Damian was a very trusting child lol

Readers, make sure you have all your favourite Ao3 fics downloaded.
Writers, make sure you have copies of all the fics you have posted on Ao3.
I don’t want to be alarming, but things could get really bad really fast. OTW shared this today on Twitter, and I'm a bit worried about it 😅
Ao3 is a non-profit organisation. If they have to start paying taxes, I have no idea what will happen.
