Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHITEY HOUSTON reached a massive level of cross-over success that was unprecedented at the time for a black female music artist.
Though the sales started off slow, it eventually topped the BB200 for 14 weeks in 1986, generating three #1 singles on the BBHot 100, which made it both the first debut album/first album by a solo female artist to produce three #1 singles in the US.
The album remained on the Billboard 200 for 162 weeks. It also spent 46 weeks in the top 10.
The album topped the charts in many countries, including Canada, Australia, Norway & Sweden, while peaking at #2 in the UK , Germany, and Switzerland.
WHITNEY HOUSTON was also the best-selling album of 1986 in Australia, staying at #1 on the Albums chart for 11 weeks, the longest stay by a female artist at the time. It was also the first #1 album by a Black female artist there. In Japan, the album was the second best-selling album of 1986 by a foreign artist.
With 30 million copies sold worldwide, WHITNEY HOUSTON was the best selling album of 1986, it remains the best-selling studio album by a black female artist of all time and the best-selling debut album by a female artist & one of the best selling albums of all time.
The album was certified diamond 💎 on March 16, 1999, and later 14× Platinum in the US. A historic debut album. A historic woman.

A Gentle Reminder for Black History Month and Superbowl Sunday: Colin Kaepernick took a knee for social justice and the NFL blackballed him for life. Now the NFL is taking a knee for Trump, erasing their message of "End Racism" from the Superbowl field.
