This final week is all about model making and CAD drawing. I felt I am right on the track. I started very early drawing the CAD, follow the data I have measured.

What did I do well?(CAD)

I found myself getting familiar with this software, by typing the command and the thing you wanted, it can save a lot of time drawing, moving or even duplicate the horizontal line. The next thing I am proud of myself is the curve line. Honestly, it did not look well when first access to the spline tool, it just out of control like it occurred wider then the fact and may not match the straight line underneath. At last, I managed to fix that. It tuned out when selecting the end point, you can select the upper pint instead of the original one,  however drawing to the original point, it can make a better curve than previous one.

What did I not do well?(CAD)

Although I am getting familiar with the CAD, it appeared several problems when using it. First is the object snap tool. When After I copy a line and moved it, the line will automatically find a endpoint of the constitution line which I did not need. At first I did not noticed that until  a line got very thick because it all added up with the line a copied. At that time it is really hard for you to delete the lines you don't need because it is all the same and drive me to crazy. Another thing is the dimensions, from the picture below there are two types of dimensions, one is really small (only 0.18 mm) it is because I want to save time and use the quick dimensions and these tiny figures appeared.

 What did I do well ?(model making)

I found myself very pleased when do the foam core model.  The progress is very quick to be made because of the data I measured plus the CAD gave me a detailed figure on what the bottles look like and where should I insert a foam core in. I am happy for the overall result.

What did I not do well? (model making)

It is tricky when starting to make a model of washing liquid, it is almost the oval shape which can be hard to control while sanding. I did a lot bad ones due to it did not balance, looks like brick wall. Another thing is the sanding problem. When I cut out a rough shape and sand it to oval with a sand block I made, the foam core always had some of the cover paper lies down, I tried used the sculptor, it looks better from the side but again not balanced.

Week 11 Measurement

In this week, we focus on the data of the object we have for project 3. It quite challenging for me after changing my project from a lamp to a washing liquid bottle because it has much more curve plus a built-in handle on it with a non-logic negative space. I started with a few tools to help me measure the curve. For example, the gauge to measure the curve between the bottle itself and the handle. Next to trace down to a paper. In the progress, I find a tricky way to complete the precise shape. When you finished tracing one side， measure the width of the bottle and then link the end point, thus, the shape can be done

Week 9 Rendering Presentation

This week we are presenting our rendering project to the group. I feel confident about my photoshop because I tried my best to make it look like a real product and  pay extra attention to the light and dark tone. As for the presentation, I am not as confident as the rendering project itself, mainly because english is my second language, although I tried to explain the process I have come through, it may turned out not accurate at all.

Were you adequately prepared?

Yes, I prepared in a draft. Planning to talk about the how the Dyson hairdryer become my target of my rendering and the decision of  whether to use the perspective view or 3 dimension view. Moreover, the difficulty I met, especially the pen tool always create such a mess when drawing the mask of the selection. 

Did you speak clear and articulately?

Honestly, no. When I go on the stage, I am like forget everything on the draft and don't really know how to say. The presentation is shorten to a half as expected. As a result, it limited the material I was plan to speak. 

Was the pace of the Your delivery appropriate?

I am quite confident with the pace and the volume while I deliver the presentation because I didn't see the audience do the ‘ struggle to hear ‘ face. And the pace is on the track I think. By using a little pause in the speech can emphasis the thing you said, which can attract the audiences. 

What did you do well and what would you do different next time?

I talked a lot of the difficulties that happened to me while doing the rendering which seems like there was the same issue that occurs to everyone. What I didn't do well is that I will try to speak more and do a much more convincing support material like the search poster with a different angle of a variety of product .

Week 8 Photograph

This week’s topic is all about how to take  good photographs and how to edit them with Adobe Bridge to emphasis the element that helps the highlight the photo well. What did I do Well?

I'm happy about the overall result. Within the exercise I learnt a lot how to catch the good angle of a photograph. I focus on the contrast between objects, especially the colour and the shape which objects provide unique sense. Like the following picture shown .

It’s provides sense of refreshment. The light green-blue and primary red can both caught our eyes but somehow increase the visual appearance. Moreover the curve created by the bike is also the contrast shape with the red rectangular. In the Bridge, I darken the background by increasing the overall grey tone so the contrast can be better highlighted.

This picture I took is meant to be provide the same sense as the picture above. Surprisingly, by playing with the Bridge, the overall tone can be classic as well. Editing the brown tone made the photo looked it has been passing over a decade.

Within this photo, it’s kind of ironic because the top-left sign says MOTORCYCLES ONLY but somehow it filled with a bunch of wasted now and the spray on the wall increased that the spot has been untaken care of for ages.

  This photo I took is also like a story telling one. It’s a bike hang up on the spot by a string full of danger with red and white stripe which gives people the scared feelings about that.

These two image is meant to be creating a neat  felling in the uni. By the clean and sharp edge the stairs and the door created an organized sence of the picture.

Week 6 Drawing with Photoshop

This is the first lesson we draw with photoshop. I have used photoshop in foundation studies for posters, which I know some basic skills. However it never enough for the project. 

What did I do well?

I find the project instruction easy to follow and very clear , It save me a lot of time to search on the internet about how to do the layers or something else. And also it also can be efficient to know the quick key to the photoshop, such as ‘Command + T’ instead of ‘Image , Adjust image’. 

Moreover, the photoshop can be done in a fun way, because it can customise a bunch of things, the colour, size the overall style/

What did not do well? 

First, I spend a quite a lot time on doing the mask, I have no idea about the mask thing, whether it should be inverse or not. Will helped me with that and then I understand the inverse is the to show the opposite side of the mask. Second, I still don't know how to the white part of the LCD display, I tried duplicated the black one and then resize it and fill it in white, however , the left side was still a circle. Not show as the picture it's a straight. The last is the background colour. I have done my own in an accident. I totally do not know how to control the patterns that I want. And I try to use the gradient tool but turns out it has covered the whole page.

Week 5 More drawing in CAD

I feel like the progress become quicker than the first time I draw with CAD. However the shape of the product is getting more and more complicated, it do occur the challenge for me. 

What did I do well?

I get familiar with the CAD language, it really can fasten the speed when you draws it. The way draws the fillet is the perfect example, by typing F, enter than choose the first point and then enter the radius of the circle and it’s done. 

what did I not do well?

As the product getting complex, it’s harder to draw the three angel projection especially the measurement. I sometimes get confused about the radius of the circle, whether it add the height by one time or two.

Week 4 studio drawing

This week,I was introduced a new software called Autocad and it's a challenge to use as a rookie.

What did I done well?

Following the brief,it’s really important to do that like in the design studio. drawing the mook-up of the top view, front view and side view on a piece of paper is helpful before using the Autocad. 

What did I have difficulty with?

Honestly everything! it will really struggle if you are not familiar with the language go the software. Like F for fillet, LI for the list which can allow you to check whether each line were drawn correctly. And press enter overtime when finish drawing the line or it will be a complete mess. Moreover, I’ve still got a question with the centre line like the second picture shown. I’ve load the line type however it seem didn't work. 

What led to whose experience?

I will definitely use the language of the Autocad, it increase the speed that the work will be done. And also I find a guileful tutor on youtube who's  name is John Bordeau. He introduces the software in a detailed way and shows how he did these basic lines like construction line and centre line.

Week 3 This week we focus on the cross section view of a object. The view requires the imagination of what the object inside looks like however present by a side view. I find it's quite challenging measuring the figure of the inside circle and which section should be shaded. Moreover I find a little trick that draw the top view first and draw the guide line and the side view following up therefore it's no need to measure it again.

I find the task is quite hard and the key measurement is must be calculated precisely or the drawing will be a big mass. Moreover the side view is also a challenge for me, I drew that one wrong. Because the trophy should be at the top of the base side. The figure of each side is important as well. Especially the auxiliary view, the figure should either be the bottom side or the right side so people won't get confused, Robert the tutor pointed out.
