Hey Luke! I love that you surf. I really want to get into it. I've read and watched some stuff about surfing. It's intimidating. Surfers seem really aggressive and hostile to newcomers on their beaches. I'm afraid if I looked the wrong way at someone I'd get jumped. The whole idea of localism is very off-putting. Any advice for a novice?
Yeah, the whole localism thing can be a little intimidating. However, if you know where to surf (and where not to) and the basic rules of surf etiquette, you will be fine.
Also, if someone does physically assault you in broad daylight in the year 2021, there is a really good chance they are going to get arrested, so I wouldn’t stress on that too much either.
If you have a friend who surfs, I would ask him to teach you/show you the ropes. Always good to have a mentor. Not sure where you are in the world, but if you are local, I can recommend some beaches where you shouldn’t have any problems.
And if you don’t have a friend who surfs, feel free to ask me some specific questions and I can do my best to answer.

hey luke! why'd you get into photography?
Honestly, I’m not really sure why. I have always been drawn to art and photography.
Even while studying business I took a bunch of art and photography classes.
Jordan Peterson once said, “A real piece of art is a window into the transcendent.”
That probably has something to do with it.

do you ever use a darkroom to develop your photos?
I have before. Cool ambience. Nice to kinda get away and get into a zone. But very time consuming and the process isn’t very forgiving. What about you?

Hey Luke, have you ever looked at The Land That Remains and its photographic mediation on presence/absence? Do you ever try to capture an idea or object with reference to its absence?
Just looked it up. Federico Busonero. Beautiful work. Thanks for sharing.
Can you elaborate a little bit on your second question?

Hi Luke, can you please recommend a good and affordable digital camera? Thx homie!
When shooting digital, I use a 5D mark III. If you want to save some cash, you can probably get a used mark II for a decent price.
If you prefer Nikon, check out a D800.
And if you want something a little more compact, check out a Sony A7.
Lenses: I spend a lot of time shooting with a 50mm lens but if you’re just getting into photography and want to explore some different focal lengths, maybe check out a 24-105mm. Then when you figure out what you like, look into a nice fixed focal length lens.
There are plenty of other digital cameras out there that work great, but I haven’t personally used them so I can’t really speak on anything else.
